Trust me, that screen is NOT 1920x1080, its 1366x768. Their listing is wrong.

I'm really digging your i7-2640m which no one seems to offer, and I need a pair of W110er machines...

What exactly is the difference between the w110er and the w110erf? Besides the obvious ;)

I just ordered mine from eurocom with the matte display based on anandtechs advice. Can you please tell me how the blacks are on the display and the color reproduction. Anything really, would be great. Im a little worried.

Depends on what your used to I guess. I've been using a M11x for the past couple of years and I don't imagine the panel difference to be too significant. I would imagine that if your used to a 1920 x 1200 LED 95% gamut display it would be quite a change.

Hmm, interesting. Another one at 3.5 hours. Straight up Clevo version too.

As far as gaming on battery, if you just unplug and play you're going to get horrific battery life. You have to take power saving measures into account. I can get well over 1.5 hours, closer to 2 playing BF3. Plus don't dismiss the HD 4000. It is actually quite a capable GPU especially at 1366x768, and looks like it can be overclocked a bit. That would save more battery life yet.

Has anyone tried using the Nvidia Inspector tool? You need to right click the overclocking icon and switch on the Multi Display Power Saver - it can force down the dGPU power state to P12 levels (not sure how it works with Optimus as I don't have a laptop which uses it).

As long as the CPU Turbo is disabled while the 650M is used everything will be fine even with the regular PSU.
But I am counting on that to change at one point, so getting this one myself:

The 3610 is more than enough for CPU power, while the 3720 is only like $50 more it's a bit overkill unless you want to have bragging rights.

I had hopped the THERMALTAKE Toughpower Ultra Slim 95W was better than the original 90W, it's so small and light and maybe better since the peak power is 120W :(

I hate that in almost every review that the w110er gets compared to a mac book pro. This is a gaming laptop not one with just a hd3000 in it.

Why upset? It is smaller and will mostly deliver higher Watts. :)

EDIT review of the Cooler Master:

    Cooler Master USNA 120 tested

If anyone finds a better 120W PSU, please let me know. Just got news from Myth that my W110ER is shipping this week so going to order a PSU very soon. ;)

BTW: We could make some progress on the bios and HD4000 OC as well as RAM memory timings and speed are now under our control... :D

None unless you use a SATA to mSATA adapter and replace the 2.5 inch drive with one. There is a half height mPCIe slot but its occupied with the wireless card.

If they release that single chip mSATA drive from here and someone makes a mPCIe version and you are willing to live without your internal wireless card you could keep the 2.5 inch drive and use the sole mPCIe slot for one of these in a half height format.

edit: Actually, there is a half height mPCIe card already on the market in Japan if you have a way to source it and don't mind giving up internal wireless. http://www.techpowerup.com/150783/Green-House-Intros-Two-New-Lines-of-Compact-SSDs.html

12-14W? Does that mean you managed to get 5.5 hours of battery surfing or are those idle draws ? (rough estimation) or does it fluctuate greatly? (a quick search of the power draws of HDDs seem to show that those two sdds draw very similar wattage( at most 1 watt) Highly unlikely that that would be the reason. I'd say average was maybe 13.5. Not quite 14, but more above 13 than below, which equates to about 4.5 hours. But that was only a short run, not a full discharge. Not sure I want to do another full discharge just for the sake of doing it. Battery's gotta last me for real work too...

This is quite off topic, but did anyone else remove the banding on their notebook? I did and love the asthetic, but it sounds like I am in the minority. Perhaps it is just the narcissist in me that finds pleasure in people mockingly complimenting me on my netbook, after which they have to pick their jaws off the ground as they watch it play BF3 on ultra.

I brought it to the CSL team meeting (yes we have one of those, judge me not) and some kid with a g74 was talkin about my "netbook" but to his (no doubt pleasant) surprise it smoked his laptop.

Perhaps its the inner sadist in me but god damn that feels good :)

ps. anxiously awaiting that bios tweak :)

I looked at the branding, but it has an empty space where the texture isn't there that runs down the middle - without the branding, it feels strangely empty. If there was an option to have the texture over it as well as remove the branding, I'd have taken it, but no - as it is right now, I kept it in.

Yeah I was going to go without the branding, but it just looked too plain, and like something was missing. If it were just a solid pattern, I would have preferred with no logo. But either way I'm never looking at the back of the lid. :p

Not sure if heat or battery life is any worse than with the 3610QM both are rated at 45W but this is a pretty good read and shows the 3820QM performance wise is not really significantly better than even the lowest rated IVB i7.
Review Intel Ivy Bridge Quad-Core Processors - Notebookcheck.net Reviews
Even if it didn't have any negative impact on thermals or battery life I still personally would not get it on cost alone.

Yes you can go to this site and download driver file +inf file: Drivers | laptopvideo2go.com
You must first extract the driver file, then put that inf file in extracted folder and then run setup normal :) It works fine for mine w110er, yes I got mine lappy yesterday and Im very happy with it, so small and powerful. Its size is just about mine asus 1000h mini lappy but moooore powerful :-D Also samsung 830 512gb works fine :)

Diablo3 servers have been going sloppy the last few days I've noticed, it could be on their part as me and my mates have been experiencing glitches/combat lag last few days at exactly the same moments so its server side. We are on Europe servers though, I guess you're on US but still seems probable its not the machine thats lagging behind.

Finally got mine today. AC adapter is huge but has a built in fan. Bios is 1.0.3.
Screen is much better than I read about in the reviews. I live in Seattle so have never used a laptop outside. Put a dual Ubuntu /Win 7 set up on it. Still downloading some games.

Something else must be going on with your system. I'm playing D3 on my M11x R1 atm and I'm getting 30-50fps with low and shadows off @ 1366x768. So if this old comp can do that with no stuttering yours should be wailing. Can't wait till next week when I get mine. ;)

CSL is Collegiate Star Leauge, basically its a NASL (North American Star Leauge) for college students. The lack of branding on the back also serves another purpose for me as a student: It is vastly less likely to be stolen. People just think its a nice netbook and those are not worth stealing. I actually caught somebody walking off with my G74, so I have extra motivation :)

Does anybody know if there is a good low-profile utility that can measure the GPU boost? I use a quartet of gadgets on my desktop but GPU Meter cant seem to detect the base clock at all :/ I know Afterburner and Precision can monitor the clocks but they are huge and not something its easy to quick alt+tab out of to run a temp/clock check as I do often (just a habit, the highest temps have gotten is played Starcraft II for 2 hours on Ultra+Extreme and it hit 81 Degrees).

Hey guys, I'm debating selling my Alienware M11x and upgrading to the NP6110. So far I'm in love with almost everything except for the lack of a backlit LCD. Also, has anyone done any benchmarking on the i5 sandy bridge versus the i7 ivy? It seems to me like the i5 would have enough power for me but for only $100 more it seems more worth it to take the upgrade and be more future proof. Also I remember previously seeing a site with these for sale completely from scratch. Like I could order it without a CPU or HDD if I wanted to. I haven't been able to find the site again, does anyone have the link? Thanks.

You could always use this and have the boost + temps displayed in game vs having to alt tab out to check.

Thanks, good advice and great review pointer -- yeah there isn't really a massive difference hey.. now the real question is jeez I'd love to hear real numbers on the comparative battery life and performance with the 35W TDP 3612QM, which is the only CPU that review didn't have access to.

Glossy. It's brighter than the matte screen netbook it's sitting next to. It's not as good as the Samsung Note screen though (which is also glossy). I just find it odd that the same reviewer probably loves the Ipad 3 screen which is also glossy. I would say the only problem I would have with it would be if I did use it outdoors. I will be ordering a different power brick though for travelling. Keyboard is also only OK but I can't type that fast anyways so it's good enough.

If you're traveling is by Car/Plane this is the smallest adapter I've found that works. Tip A is the one that fits our laptop. Its only 90W continuous with 100W peak but that is good enough my purposes.

Maybe in a year or two I'll play with OCing, until it starts to struggle at stock I'll leave it there. I used to OC everything as soon as I got it but that was when I was single and bought new tech every year.

One caveat, is many games don't like the dll hook of Afterburner. I have had stability issues with it in the past with games like Battlefield Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3.

I installed Afterburner, and noticed that a) the options menu is too tall for my screen unless i hide the taskbar  and b) it doesnt detect the clock speeds in the main overclocking window, just shows it as +0... weird
