i don't know how to check that...i can just provide this screen if that helps.

It looks like I misread the spec sheet on the i7-3610QM, which should also be able to drive 3 displays, but it looks like the laptop just isn't wired to make it work.

i_have_a_bike Notebook Consultant
yeah noticed that after i commented
on that note i just spoke to my local sager dealer and according to them no one actually has the IB i5s in yet, so you can order them but they'll only actually be in next week. -
Jack at LBO (in Australia) has said on a separate forum that driving two external displays is possible, but the internal display must be disabled. I'm actually okay with this
Also, I really liked this picture showing off the matte display off the W110er compared to a glossy acer display. Really sealed the deal for me--now just waiting for Malibal to update dual core options to Ivy Bridge.

alaskajoel if you're waiting on MALIBAL you should open a ticket or get in contact with them somehow. I know they'll accommodate you, but they haven't paid much attention to their W110ER page yet.
-
Thanks for the tip--just opened a ticket. Hopefully I hear something positive soon.
-
Glad to hear that. This is a great little machine. I played Civilization V on battery in class today (hah...lower-division GE's) and it was silent and playable. I ran it off the iGPU and it lasted the whole 1 hr 15 minutes too with plenty to spare. Very impressed with that.
-
Haha this is awesome! I'm hoping to have mine before the God's and Kings expansion comes out later this month.
-
Does this still occur when in game? Eg not running wPrime and Furmark?
-
Hmm...I wonder if the other dual cores are due to come in then too. In any case, thanks for that FYI.
As alaskajoel pointed out, xoticpc's in on the act too now.
Decisions, decisions. -
Max Payne 3 runs like charm.
DX11 everything highest setting, fps somewhat between 30 and 60 as far as i can tell.
Using stock drivers (295?). -
Does anyone know if the gt650m can be overvolted and overclocked further than +135/+1000 when NVidia releases actual drivers for them on their website?
-
It'll be easier to tell when they actually release a driver
-
Got an email back from Malibal...said they should be available within a couple weeks
Hmm....maybe jumping ship to Mythlogic after all.
-
You didnt do else but install the game and all works fine? Is it Steam or Retail version? I have the last one. Have you updated other drivers, chipset or so on??
-
No, nothing updated. Retail.
Had to add this -adapter 1 to the shortcut on Desktop. -
Which of shortcut, playmaxpayne3 or maxpayne3 and without -dx11, only -adapter1? What kind of setting
s you habe on Nvidia Control Panel? No profiles also?
-
Shortcut: PlayMaxPayne3.exe" -adapter 1
Thats basically the only thing i did.
I do not have an extra profile on NvidiaCP. -
I really wish they put a backlit keyboard on this one :/
I'm about to pull the trigger on one, I just wish there was a better screen and a backlit keyboard...
Anyone found benches for the new IB dual core? -
Not on the W110ER in particular, but there is a review comparing the CPUs:
In Review: Intel Ivy Bridge Dual-Core CPUs
Power consumption wise, it doesn't seem like there's a whole lot of difference between dual cores and quad cores. Does anyone think it'd be worth changing to a dual core just for that slightly lower idle consumption? -
My personal thought is no. I considered it before the dual core information was readily available, now I know I'll be sticking with my quad core. I just think Sager needs to make some optimizations to the BIOS and possibly nVidia drivers with Optimus.
-
For me it's more because I play a lot of older games where it's all about IPC and high frequencies because it's single threaded so for the same power draw I would rather have a 2.9 base clock than going for the 3612QM at 2.1, I might even go for the i5 and save $150 in the process and still get a baseclock of 2.5
Like HT said I am fairly sure it does not make a difference in battery life or even termals for that matter.
Edit: Actually at Idle there is no difference but I found reviews where the Quads at load were sucking 20w more than the Duals .. so maybe it would give slightly more gaming on the go... -
I think so too. The difference seems so marginal in the review, it just doesn't seem worth the time and effort to change to a dual core. At least that helps ease my buyer's remorse a little for not waiting.
Is that loading things in general or more intense stuff like games and videos? I'm mainly worried about using software like word documents and such for Uni, but I wouldn't want to sacrifice game performance. Decisions decisions... -
It was for more intense stuff like multi threaded games or encoding. on a single thread it made no difference or a tad lower than the duals, which makes sence because you run at a lower clock.

Prema BIOS Mod v1.0 for W110ER is now released for everyone on:
biosmods.wordpress.com
ENJOY
-
hey Prema, I just backed up my original Metabox BIOS using AFUwin64 and its saved as a .BIOS file, how would I restore it? can it be flashed with AFUWIN64 in windows?
-
Never flash in windows!
Also since Clevo updated EC & BIOS on this model. I would highly suggest that if you want to go back that you use the latest stock rom to avoid conflicting EC & BIOS versions.
You can find the latest stock update on the blog for that reason, too. -
@Prema
Xie Xie !
Thank you! Rep+1(well, after i give a rep to someone else first)
Just wanna add, absolutely amazing job, congratulations ! -
Has anyone spotted batteries with a higher capacity than the standard ones? I wish someone would offer this kind of battery as it should improve both battery life and temperatures:
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vEHzrzroT...+Your+Laptop%25E2%2580%2599s+Battery+Life.jpg -
just flashed, disabled hyperthreading, dropped system temps by 5 degrees under prime large FFT load
also increased TDP to 55
Heya Prema for your hard work, I haven't got cash to donate but I can send you my i7-920xm, been in its tray for too long and needs a good home
-
I just got done reading the entire 194 pages and loved to follow how the BIOS mods were doing and how everyone was dropping temps! I have a little thing to add that I have used on my soon to retire T420 (to be replaced with the W110ER soon! says it will arrive next Thursday more on the specs after my post)
When I get my W110ER I will be applying this regpatch (if anyone wants the .reg file let me know and I'll copy and paste the contents here) This has helped me with my temps greatly. I installed a 2720QM (45watt) in my T420 and it gets really hot! 95+ sometimes with throttling! No matter how well I paste/re-paste it always gets hot. Here are the settings it unlocks.
This has worked wonders and since it is something I haven't seen any of you folks talk about I figure I will share it with everyone. I will miss the 1600x900 screen on my Lenovo but I changed it to 1366x768 for the past week to get ready for the lower screen res of my new laptop and it's actually not that bad.. I used to have a Sony VPCS111FM with that same Resolution and have had no problems with it. If it was 1280x800 that would SUCK haha.
I bought a barebones from RJTech this Monday and it's still processing and was told it would come in next Thursday. I don't like the anxiety waiting for it! Once I receive it i will be flashing the BIOS with the modded one from Prema and then donate for all the hard work put into that! I still can't believe they packed all that power into a laptop that is 11 inches. I will hooking it up 85% of the time to desktop peripherals so that screen will not bother me. I just love the portability factor of it! I think in the near future a 9cell will be made because this is a brand new laptop so new parts will be made eventually.. after that it will be a killer machine!!
Specs for my W110ER:
Intel Core i7 2720QM (will be throttled to 85%) or
Intel Core i5 2510M (no Throttle)
16GB Corsair 1600Mhz
C300 256GB 6gb/s
120Watt PowerSupply
(and the rest of the stock specs) -
how much does it take to flash bios? mine is hanging on " press any key to continue" for about 10min, not responding on any comands, just a flashing cursor. im little bit panic(
ah nevermind, everything flashed ok, ive just changed ms-dos to freedos in rufus, and everything worked ok
thks for work prema -
Don`t worry! Just shut it down and do it again. Make sure you copy all files again to the memory stick, to make sure they are not corrupted this time.
EDIT: Oh, good saw that you got it sorted!
-
Wow, that is sweet. Will that work with a 3612 Ivy as well? On stock BIOS?
I am totally with you mate. Got mine last friday and it was broken. They repaired it and sent it in the mail today. I cross all my fingers it will arrive by tomorrow.
-
I don't see why it wouldn't work. I would guess it would work for all CPU's that obviously have more than 2 cores
I don't think BIOS has anything to do with core parking as Windows has this software built in.
Oh man that is a bummer! I sure hope mine comes in one piece! -
I've noticed a good deal on an Acer TimelineX 14" notebook:
Micro Center - Acer Aspire AS4830TG-6808 14" Laptop Computer - Cobalt Blue LX.RGL02.150
Obviously this is in a different size class than the W110ER, but I was wondering if anyone could compare the performance of the Acer with the Clevo? Acer is 14" with a GT540M, which I gather is worse than the 650M in the W110ER -- but how much? And of course it's a Sandy Bridge CPU instead of Ivy Bridge.
Also, reviews say this machine gets over 7 hours of batter life on web surfing! It seems that's more evidence that a similar (?) machine gets much better battery life, so a BIOS update could fix this for the W110ER... but does anyone have any idea how LIKELY it is that Clevo will fix this?
Thanks! -
Well I will tell you right off the bat that the 540M is way behind a 650M. The 540M is based off the old arch. and only has 96 Cores versus the 650M's new arch and 384 Cores.
I have also heard those notebooks have overheating problems. So being armed with all that knowledge the price is not a deal IMO. Others may have different thoughts. -
Yes, please post reg contents!
-
You know, I actually have that exact one. I bought it for a friend off of ebay (brand new) for $455. Not a bad deal. Perhaps I could do some benches for you?
It DOES get amazing battery life. We are talking hours while gaming at max performance. BatteryEater Reader's test clocks in at just under 12 hours. Performance is obviously not in the leauge of a 650m and quad core, but the 540m isnt a slouch. There is a good reason it was so popular. The biggest thing that I noticed about it was the SOUND. My god does it have nice sound. 2 speakers on a bar on the top, 2 front firing speakers near the front on the bottom, and an integrated subwoofer. I think thats dolby 2.1... not sure though. PM me if you want anything else. -
UPS just dropped off my w110er!! I'll post some shot's of it later compared to my old m11x R1!!
Sidenote: My OCZ Vertex 4 will be here tomorrow, anyone ever use the program SSD Tweaker? Is it worth running or just following various guides to do the tweaks manually?
Psyched! -
Sorry for the double post, but I am also having trouble flashing my BIOS. I am using an old USB 2.0 drive from samsung (like 256 MB but its big enough). I can use the Rufus utility alright, but whenever i boot into it, i am greeted with a wall of text and no options, nothing mentioning a BIOS. Grrr...
Edit: ........facepalm. I really need to read the directions. Lets try this again...
Edit #2: By the way, if you have modded your VGA drivers to be compatable (I am on 302.59), dont accidentally click update driver software in the device manager for your 650m. It will disable your graphics card and I am in the process of reinstalling the drivers now... ugh such a derp day
Edit #3: After a few tries and a BSOD, I got the BIOS installed and working I think -
cool, pictures would be much appreciated!!
sidenote answer: you'd be better of doing the tweaks yourself, but using the SSD Tweaker program surely does save you a lot of time, but gives you the slight disadvatange of not being completely sure what the hell happens behind the scenes, kinda your own choice
nor would I dis-recommend it as the program works very well and is praised by many
-
Just install Windows 7 fresh and you don't need an ssd tweaker.

How did everything go with the modded driver and adaptive vsync? -
same I heard Acer are notorious for using throttling to mask their crap cooling. to compare fermi to Kepler, you have to multiply the fermi core count by 2 and ignore the shader clock.
So the 96 fermi core GT 540m weighs in at 192 equivalent kepler cores at 672 mhz i.e. exactly half the gt 650m shading power. Don't know how many ROPS and Texture units are involved so the actual performance is more like 60% of the 650m.
Just Benchmarked Vantage with Hyper threading disabled
GPU score: 8096 -
It seemed to go swimmingly, performance is bumped a bit in games. As for adaptive vsync, there seems to be a slight pause or stutter when it turns on or off. It is somewhat annoying as in the 55-65 fps without it on is much smoother than with it, but it is REALLY nice in games like BF3 where you dont experience tearing in the lulls but your fps doesnt tank in the battle scenes due to vsync bumping it down. Overall my impression is positive and I will keep it on.
I dont know if it has the same effect as the frame limiting option on power consumption, we will have to see. Additionally when I installed the newest drivers, several options were added that might be really nice for battery life. There is now a catagory in the Nvidia control panel called "Change PowerMizer Settings" and it allows you to optimize for battery life, as well as "extend battery charge by using less power for the display" which is intriguing.
Finally, it added something called nView to the context menu, and while I have absolutely no idea what it does, I have yet to explore it.
Edit: after some research, I think the nView is activated because I run a 24" monitor as my primary display and nView is a nice utility to manage the use of multiple monitors. Neat
Is that your W110ER or Acer? It is true that there have been some throttling issues with the model but ThrottleStop fixes all problems
I have a hard time believing that the 650m is 40% faster than the 540m, but can be wrong. Ill see if I can bench both my W110ER and my friend's acer to get a more accurate comparison. -

Excellent, I can't wait to get my W110ER and start messing with all the goodies in these newer drivers. -
So is their any word about enabling turbo while GPU is in use?
