Welcome aboard xD Its your power-settings, just set it to "performance" and you are good to go. Also "balanced mode" is sufficient for most games. Search this thread for Clevo's HotKey utility which manages your power settings.

Wow. Got a little lesson today that honesty is not the best policy. Purchased a Sager NP6110 from XoticPC a few weeks ago. I also ordered an external USB CD/DVD drive and the Digital Creativity Suite 3.0 with it. XoticPC sent me (in error) two drives and two licensed copies of the software. They also put a credit of $80 onto my credit card (which I initially thought was a charge) because they thought they had not installed Windows o/s but charged me for it. In fact, they did install Windows, so I should not have been given that credit.
Being an honest person, I advised XoticPC of these errors so the additional drive, software, and $80 credit could be returned.
I really like the size, responsiveness, pretty much everything about the NP6110 except the glossy screen, which makes it very hard to use the laptop outdoors because of reflections on the glossy surface. I have tried a ViewGuard cover, which is certainly an improvement, but not ideal.. plus there's some air bubbles that just wont go away. I tried purchasing a replacement matte 11.6" screen from several retailers (cost $80 + ~$9 shipping), but they all only have glossy at present. Finally I asked XoticPC if I could buy one from them since they do have them, and I would install it myself, figuring that would be cheaper and more convenient. Note that XoticPC charge an additional $189 for the matte screen when customizing the order... compared to some other resellers currently only charging $100 for the same matte screen to be installed...
Unfortunately XoticPC advised they will not sell the screens separately, but I could ship the laptop back to them to install it for me - of course I would have to pay the additional $189 for the matte screen, presumably all the shipping, and apparently no credit for the glossy screen they would no doubt keep. I asked if there could be some kind of discount in consideration of the fact that I'd saved them maybe $140 in making them aware of their errors in shipping me the extra peripheral & software, plus the $80 credit, but NO, I would have to pay full price.
Nice one. I should have just kept my mouth shut about their errors.
Since I am not satisfied with the NP6110 with the glossy screen, and I am still within the first 30 days of purchase, I am going to return the NP6110 for a full refund (less the $28 shipping).
I will be ordering a new NP6110 (with matte screen), but not from XoticPC. As it turns out, my wife is now quite keen for one for herself (she loves the 11.6" size), so some other reseller may benefit twice from this experience. Karma I guess.
Shame really, because they had seemed friendly and thankful for my honesty - shame they could not compromise in any way whatsoever in respect of that fact. Too bad. Honesty pays? - not in this case.
If you're looking at buying an NP6110 (or any laptop for that matter), consider your options carefully.
:::EDIT::: A happy ending - I contacted Jeff at Mythlogic.com (an alternative retseller) and he was happy to assist and is shipping a matte replacement screen to me tomorrow, for a cost (including shipping) much cheaper than what XoticPC wanted for the screen alone (with shipping costs, it would have cost me double what Mythlogic charged).
Mythlogic have just gained a new client, and XotixPC have lost my future custom. -
I don't really see how they would offer you a large discount in return for pointing out that they have f*cked up. The sales people can only give discounts approved by their superiors, policy etc. If they give you an unapproved discount they will be asked why they did that. And they will have to explain that you are a nice guy, since you pointed out, how they have accidentaly refunded you company money and sent you free hardware and software. Which in the end will make their sales dept look especially bad. Not only they f@cked up with the refund/free hardware, but also provided you with an unauthorized discount. I don't think they would want to attract that much attention.
As for reseller - consider Mythlogic. My laptop is still being built, so I can't talk about their shipping and build quality, but I have never heard anything negative about them, unlike AvaDirect, Malabal, XoticPc etc, and my numerous conversations with them through their live chat and email were very fruitful. They have advised me against buying a couple of more expensive components in order to save money, and offered discounts too.
Their Matte screen is at $100. And what I like about them is that instead of reselling Sager computers they build everything in-house, burn-in it and even send the benchmarks for your computer along with it. -
How is it an unauthorized discount? XoticPC are the ones selling the LCD and installing it not Sager. They can offer whatever price they want. And I'd think they'd at least sell him the damn LCD without having to ship in his laptop.
-
Even if "they" might offer any price they want it doesn't mean that the sales rep that he talked to was one of "them". I might be mistaken but I think when it comes to sales there is a hierarchy at place and it's not like any sales rep can randomly offer to sell something at 40% off.
I think XoticPC do all of the warranty related, labor etc. through Sager. At least that's how their rep explained it to me. All XoticPC does is work as a middleman between Sager and the customer. The computers are even shipped to the buyer straight from Sager. -
You are correct, but the screen itself comes from XoticPC. They offer some upgrades done solely by XoticPC not Sager. There's not much of a hierarchy at XoticPC since there's not that many employees. In any case I understand XoticPC's stance, but Nereus333 did do them a big favor. It's like if someone returned your wallet with all the cash in it and they saw you had a car for sale and said they were interested in buying it, wouldn't you at least offer them a small discount in exchange for their kindness?
-
Of course, but I guess that's why I'm not working at Xotic %) You are right and I do agree that it's sort of d*ck-ish of them not to offer Nereus some sort of incentive. Especially since he is a returning customer. But personally I rarely expect companies, even small ones to do that for me or anybody else.
-
Thanks for the support. I don't expect anything from anyone, but under the circumstances, some token would have been nice - not to mention the resulting goodwill for XoticPC (word of mouth etc.). I will be contacting Mythlogic - I believe they sold HTWingNut a matte screen (without demanding they do the install) - and as Factory_666 stated, Mythlogic offer the matte upgrade for $100 with the NP6110 anyway - compared to $189 from XoticPC.
Thanks HTWingNut for your help along the way - much appreciated.
-
A quick update on this: I contacted Jeff at Mythlogic.com (an alternative reseller) and he was happy to assist and is shipping a matte replacement screen to me tomorrow, at a cost (including shipping) much cheaper than what XoticPC wanted for the screen alone (with shipping costs, XoticPC would have cost me double what Mythlogic charged).
Mythlogic have just gained a new client, and XotixPC have lost my future custom.
-
Not that I have anything against Xotic I had previous purchases there myself, but quite honestly I bought this one from Mythlogic as well and they have LEGENDARY customer support and quite frankly I do not see myself buying anywhere else in the forseeable future.
Not only do they give you a fair price on upgrades, they install and stress test all thier machines to make sure you do not get a lemon. Most importantly they will go the extra mile for you if you require special considerations. -
Guys i think i have serius problem with my notebook
recently i used my w110er on battery, at 7% it gave me a warning that power is low , at ~1-2% it completely turned off, everything just like usual, after that i left it without charger and went to work. Later this evening i connected charger and turned it on an saw this
W110ER/NP6110 display problem - YouTube
VID 20120724 202502 - YouTube
display is showing somekind of lines and rows! ive started to slowly lovering down display and on 1-2 seconds i saw desktop as it should be but then i truyed to rise display and desktop disappeared again and never showed up only this lines and rows
funny thing that it can work with external display just like usually, i reverted to stock nvidia drivers 295.xx- not helped
im using prema bios mod, maybe problem in this but im doubt it
can it be problem with flex cable witch goes from motherboard to display?
I bought this notebook from rjtech as a barebone, and everything was fine with it it was handled with gentle and care , no fall down or anything
any thoughts? sor for my bad eng -
This might not be the problem but try it. Press, Windows Key+P and choose "Computer only".
-
ofcourse i tryed it, nothing changes
-
Try to boot-up with an external optical drive or USB, (e.g bootble USB - Ubuntu linux) and see if the problem persists.
EDIT: easy to use tool to make bootable USB for Linux distributions: Universal USB Installer – Easy as 1 2 3 | USB Pen Drive Linux -
problem persists even in bios, i dont think its a OS problem
-
The fact that you do get a normal picture when you start to close (lower) the screen sounds very much like you have a loose wire, probably with the LVDS connector. I suggest opening up the lid and checking the connection to the screen
Good luck.
-
Open and check or return it !
There obviously is a connection problem

Prema Mod for W110ER updated to v1.2:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...ies-prema-bios-mod-review-15.html#post8736928 -
Thank you!
-
any suggestions where it is located?
-
About to try the new bios... never done anything like this before.
-
I have mine disassembled. I'll look this evening and take a photo or two. You will have to remove lots of screws though.
-
Ok, so I just updated the BIOS. Is there anything changed (by default) that I should know about that I may or may not be content with? Or are the settings the same as before but now I have more options to change?
-
I think i will have to go buy my own matte screen from mythlogic, like the other poster is doing, to replace my broken LCD screen. Im trying to find the exact page (is there a step by step instructions?) in the thread ( its a big thread and i got tired of clicking through the pages) on how to install matte screen. Can anyone point it out to me? Is it difficult to do? i briefly looked at the thread and it appears HTWing nuts had some problems installing it
id rather do it myself mainly cuz i dont want to ship it back and wait god kknows how long for them to ship it back. i need the laptop for school work -
I think HTWingNut posted a couple of posts above that he may be posting some pics regarding the connector, so that will definitely help. He also wrote a brief post about changing the screen on another thread [ link].. there may be a separate more detailed thread somewhere, but I haven't seen it.
I also found a write-up on another site [ link] about changing the screen - the exact model screen for the NP6110 in fact.
Somewhere in these forums someone also posted a link to a youtube video [ link] which covers changing a laptop screen - not the same model, but hopefully it should be a fairly similar method. If HTWingNut can confirm, that would be great.
Hope that helps some. Mythlogic just shipped my matte screen today, so I should have it in a few days. -
Hi all!
Great thread, albeit quite long
I now have m11x r3 and i'm thinking about going for this one. Problem is that there's only one seller in Norway and they don't offer the matte screen. I emailed them and they're checking if this is an option they can include.
My question is: how's the default screen compared to the r3 screen? I find the r3 screen to be too glossy.
I'm not very picky when it comes to screen quality, but the reflections bother me.
Also, I would be picking up the i5 3320. How's the heat with this one? And battery-life?
Thanks all! -
@fhodnebo
w110er glossy screen is slightly better than m11x-r3 , just go to notebookcheck.com and compare both models. I had an m11x-r1 which had a glossy screen and it was really annoying even for indoor use! If you don't feel comfortable with r3's screen, I suggest don't look for glossy screen again
search the thread for i5 3360m temps, I played TF2 for 2 hours on battery (power saving mode - brightness 100%).
-
Everything is stock & on default. It just gives you all the extra options and an unlocked GT650M.
-
^ Thanks pal.
-
How do I go back to the original bios for warranty?
-
Installing the latest stock bios will be fine. It's included on the bios blog.
-
For anyone interested, I discovered the reason TES V Skyrim runs so horribly is because it does not work properly with optimus. It was always launching with the integrated HD4000 instead of the GT650. Fairly easy fix, just go into nvidia control panel and manually add both the skyrim exe and the launcher to the launcher options, and set both to launch with high performance nvidia processor. Skyrim should now run like a dream.
-
Thanks for the instruction, I think someone discussed this already in this thread, but another reminder of the fix never hurts.
-
My W110ER is on it's way to me! I choose between W110ER or a 680M from Prema, the W110ER won... It will be here next week.
-
Chose between a 680M and a P150EM XD I should be able to buy the W110ER afterwards ......
-
Just a further comment regarding replacement matte screen (mentioned previous page). I received my matte screen from Mythlogic and just finished installing it about 30 minutes ago. Not a single dead/stuck pixel anywhere on the screen. It is less vibrant than the glossy screen, even on 100% brightness, however I can now actually use the laptop without background reflections bothering me, so I am very happy with the switch, and I also now have a backup screen (albeit glossy) should I ever need it.
Replacement was easy - the only 'difficult' part (frustrating might be a better word there) was the LVDS connector.. seriously, who the heck designed those? Did it not occur to them to have some sort of locking mechanism so it doesn't just fall out with the lightest touch? In the end I applied some electrical tape to keep the connectors securely mated, and that did the trick.
I've also applied some small copper heatsinks onto the existing CPU plate, which seems to have helped lower the CPU temps under load. Played some BF3 and it went well - I got shot up just as regularly as I normally do lol. Bit of a change from the 23.5" desktop screen though!
Thanks Mythlogic, and thanks HTWingNut
-
Thinking about replacing the glossy screen with matte as well, but I'll wait until Amazon gets them back in stock for $90 if I do go that route. Also, I had a strange battery issue today. I unplugged the laptop from its charger and it all the sudden showed a blank battery icon in the taskbar and BatteryBar lost all charge/discharge info. Windows said "unknown percentage, unknown time remaining." Restarting the laptop fixed it, but I hope it's not a sign of battery problems to come.

Congrats! I know those LVDS connectors are awful. They should engage with a slight click, but don't take much to disengage them. A fat strip of electrical tape usually does the trick though to keep it in place.
Not too bad though eh? -
Basically a 15 minute job from start to finish, and that's with a couple of do-overs when the connector didn't hold. Well worth the effort.
-
Am I correct with this interpretation - remove rubber bumpers, remove screws, remove LCD bezel, unscrew screen, remove display cable, repeat in reverse? Is there a mounting bracket that needs to be switched over between screens, or does the new one have everything I need already attached to it?
-
i see these two different models screens being referenced
B116XW03 V.1 $90 on amazon Amazon.com: AU OPTRONICS B116XW03 V.1 SIDE BRACKETS LAPTOP LCD SCREEN 11.6" WXGA HD LED (SUBSTITUTE REPLACEMENT LCD SCREEN ONLY. NOT A LAPTOP ) (WILL NOT WORK FOR V.2): Computers & Accessories
B116XW02 V.1 $75 laptopscreen.com B116XW02 V.1 replacement Laptop LCD Screen from $59.99 Brand-new screens (never used).
it doesnt matter which one, right? if not i would go for the $75 one. -
No, I ordered the B116XW02 and it has the wrong bracket on it, it's also the wrong size, and consumes 1W more power.
Notice no side bracket attachments on it:
and it should look like this:

I wonder if you could use one of those matt covers for the screen. I know they exist for 15'' but not sure about 11''.
-
Yes they do exist, and they do work, just a pain in the butt to get them on without bubbles, dust, etc behind them.
-
I recently disassembled a Lenovo machine and its LVDS had a locking mechanism to it. It took me a long time to figure that out. Almost broke the connector. Looked a bit like this one. Seems like it's a matter of cost, as always.
It's even hard to apply these things on a tiny cellphone screen. I'd imagine it being almost impossible to apply on a laptop. Although I know a few guys which are so extremely patient, they might get the job done.
[EDIT] I see Firefly's back to life?
What did you do?
-
Well there is a way to do it, and it doesn't have a lot to do with patience. I usually steam up the bathroom by running a hot shower to get rid of the dust, soaks the protector in a bubbly bucket of water with dish soap (with only a little bit of soap). Adhesive is silicon so won't be affected by the soap and water. Then apply. I usually use vinyl gloves too so I don't get fingerprints on the back side.
-
Hm, can you please elaborate on the "bubbly bucket of water". Should the water in the bucket be hot? And do you dry the protector up before applying it to the screen, or does the water come off itself atuomatically?
I suppose this is the protetor you are talking about. -
Yep, that's the product. And I use hot water, yes, I let it drip dry a little bit before applying, but need it still a little wet with dish soapy water. The idea is to get it a little slippery on the back to allow it to move around plus keep dust and other things off the adhesive while being applied. I then massage bubbles out of it with a credit card. There will be small bubbles in it for the next week but they eventually go away. I usually try to massage the bigger ones out every day, but on the at least half dozen, probably more, ones applied, the bubbles have always gone away.

Hey there, just wondering if anyone has tried this battery with the w110er:
CLEVO W170ER W170HR W110ER battery
It rates slightly lower than the stock one would, but on ebay it sells for $60 incl shipping, so that's a pretty decent price.
