Yes you can use an external DVD drive. I put my Win 7 on a USB stick if you so desire, but if you have an external DVD drive it will do just fine.
-
I have read many reviews and most mention that the Quad runs hot.
-
They do run at fairly high temperatures but they are all within spec and not damaging components. Don't worry about the temperature too much, it's fine!
-
They run hotter than expected at idle but that's only because the fan doesn't start until about 65C. They can run as high as 95C with artificial stress from something like Prime95, otherwise gaming it's reasonable. If you look at my review, I measured CPU and GPU heat. This was stock, with it sitting laying flat. Propping it up drops temps by 5-8C at peak. Now BF3 usually runs about 80-82C which is one of the more CPU stressing games out there at the moment.
-
At the moment my W11OER is configured with a Dual Core i3 but the delay means I still have time to change it. I wonder if the 35W Dual will give significantly more battery life than the Quad. Has anyone got a model with that spec?
-
It wont make a difference unless you are doing heavy cpu work as the quads will idle down to a similar power use as the duals. Just go for the quad, you will be much better off in the long run.
-
I get 6+ hours (light web-browsing + office stuff) or 2+ hours while playing valve games (e.g. tf2). I suggest go for 3612qm which is 35w IB but quad core as well.
-
Oh I see, I didn't realise they would idle down to a similar level. I will probably end up getting the Quad.
-
The 3612 is not significantly cooler than the 3610, but it is more expensive and slower. The difference is really like only 1-2 degrees, which if it really matters, you can lower the max clocks of the 3610 with ThrottleStop to match.

Did you actually USE the laptop for 6+ hours or just estimation? I have yet to see any W110ER than can exceed 4.5 hours. I'm assuming for gaming you're using the HD 4000?
-
This is true. Don't bother with the 3612.
-
I upgraded my order from the i3-2370M (2.40GHz) 3MB to the i7-3610QM (2.30GHz) 6MB. I guess I couldn't resist (AC Adapter also upgraded to 120W).
-
This is how I did it, The Clevo's control centre was set to "power-saver". only used WiFi when I needed and it was off most of the time. The brightness was on minimum. Also only Firefox and Word were open.
For gaming I played TF2 for 2+ hours and around 10-7% left at the end (100% brightness & optimus was on). Clevo's control center was on "Quiet" mode and FPS capped to 30FPS. -
Hmm, even with power saver, min brightness, and one page refreshing every 10 minutes, my test resulted in just over 4 hours of use. Although "quiet" mode shouldn't really matter, it just keeps the fans from spinning up. But was it using HD 4000 or GT 650m?
Also, what brand Clevo? It seems the Eurocom Monster has garnered the best results, but I'd say all users at NBR are getting less than 4 hours on average regardless of CPU chosen. -
Maybe because most of the people use a Quad@45W but I am sure Optimus was on during gameplay cause MSI Afterburner OSD was showing the g650m shader clock going up and down and fps was capped to 30FPS which only happens when Optimus uses battery instead of AC. I've got my w110er from mysn.de in germany (Schenker).
Is it possible to check the total watt usage by software ?
EDIT: I just need to measure the battery discharge rate in watts but not sure which software does it and accurately... -
I use a hardware device called "kill-a-watt" but measures power from the outlet, although easily can convert with ~ 90% efficiency. BatteryBar software will estimate power consumption while on battery. And Quad @ 45W doesn't mean it consumes 45W only that it's binned as a 45W TDP GPU. The 3610QM is a borderline 35W TDP CPU, and at idle draws similar power to a dual core i5. In order to run over 6 hours with the 62WHr battery, the laptop would have to draw no more than 10W which is pretty remarkable considering most netbooks draw 8-9W at minimum power. If it's 6 hours with occasional sleep and LCD off then I can see but a straight 6 hours on all the time with LCD powered then it's a stretch.
-
For 6 hours I nearly went blind with Min brightness, not practical unless you are in a dark room with a small desk light. also you are right LCD was off time to time. It is possible but it surely hurt your eyes...
wish I had a kill-a-watt
I tried BatteryCare but nothing useful. What about HWiNFO, I think it shows the CPU wattage use. I see something called CPU package power, Is that it ?
-
Thank You for your info!
-
If you're looking for system power draw then you'll need something like BatteryBar and use estimation. For whatever reason the battery doesn't show up in apps like batterycare or HWInfo64. That CPU package power is for the CPU alone, but would be a good indicator of power draw between CPU's. Maybe I'll log mine while idle for 10 minutes on battery and get an average. -
BatteryBar did the trick, the estimated discharge rate was between 10,xxx to 11,000mW (Min-Brightness) and 12,xxx to 13,xxxmW (42% Brightness). WiFi off and Power setting was set to "Power saver" during the test, also CPU Package power in HWiNFO was around 4.5W
I am going to buy one of those watt meters from Amazon and retest it again.
EDIT: Another test (Watching youtube with Ethernet cable connected, Wifi On but not in use and 100% Brightness). BatteryBar Discharge estimated around 16,xxx mW

where did u get the "clevo control center" ? can't see it on sager's drivers page.
-
Hi,
received my clevo w110er 1 month ago, and I was finally able to use bumblebee for optimus thanks to issue #172 fix ( https://github.com/Bumblebee-Project/Bumblebee/issues/172).
So if you are a Linux user like me now there isn't anything that can stop you
I'm going to replace the original keybard, a french one, with the us international keyboard. Any suggestion/disassembly guide for replacing the keyboard?
Thanks for your help. -

i have had wierd problems with the nvidia drivers 304.79, didnt notice much at first but every minor task started slowing down.... and maybe even napoleon total war started lagging a bit... by slowing down, its little things like right clicking the sound bar to raise the volume, or opening scripts to mod some files for Napoleon, everything just took a little bit longer and it finally got to me lol, i switched back to clevo drivers 295.93??? and everything is working fine again... just a weird problem i had with the new beta drivers
-
If you read the whole thread you will see that the beta drivers have a bad habit of activating the 650M when doing anything in Windows. That's just the general idea.
-
And then it's Fn+Esc to bring it up:
-
I ran into this before. At one point it manifested when I installed nView (even if it's not officially supported). Certain gui actions would cause explorer.exe to spike for a while.
Another issue seem to be with Windows 7. Depending on how Explorer windows (explorer.exe) are launched, the process instances don't seem to close when you close the explorer windows. Not sure if this may be related to your case, but check how many instances of Explorer.exe you have opened using task manager. If there are more explorer.exe listed than than 1 + the number of Explorer windows you have launched at the moment, or if the issue clears-up when you reboot, it might be related to this:
There are multiple instances of explorer.exe running in task manager - Microsoft Answers

Hi i have got the w110er and now I got new ram...corsair vengeance with 1866 mhz.but they will not boot(got bluescreen). Could any user with the same ram send me a screenshot of the ramtiming with the prema bios.it would be awesome.best regaRds and thanks a lot, bikerboy
-
Your best option is to go with the low voltage (1.35V) Samsung RAM. Many of us can run 1866MHz and even 2133MHz with stock timings, or with slightly looser timings:

The Behringer is more an ASIO interface for Recording or Instrument Input to PC. But what you could get is this here. It's got real 5.1 sound analogue and ditigal plus it has the X-Fi chip, which is even better than the new Recon 3D. Don't get the Recon 3D USB, because it's Stereo only.
-
HT,
What ar you guys seeing with the faster but higher latency ram? In the past i found it not worth it but love getting proven wrong
TIA -
Well, you can divide the frequency by the cas to get a rough way to compare ram. If you do it this way, then larger numbers will indicate higher theoretical performance.
SO:
1600 cas 10 would be 1600/10 = 160
1600 cas 9 = 177.777
1866 cas 11 = 169.6363
1333 cas 8 = 166.625
So out of that group, 1600 cas 9 would be your best choice. At least that's how I figure out what I ought to buy. Note, this is not exactly scientific, and actual real-world performance may vary significantly, but it should be pretty close
-
Oh, that one looks nice, thanks for the link. But yeah, I'm getting Behringer one because the priority for me is to use it with recording software, connecting mixers and pre-amps etc. to it. And it is really affordable for what it does.
As for 5.1 I guess I'll just start by using the HDMI to connect my laptop to the Monitor, which has a 5.1 Headset connected through optical. Of course it won't be Dolby Surround, but at least it will be high quality stereo coming through comfortable headphones. -
Does it get very hot even while idling ?
-
-
There you go. Thanks Prema!
-
yea, but is too late, i got the vegance at my birthday, so i need to life with them.
For now, they run fine at 10-10-10-27, but maybe there are some mhz more available:S
so if anybody has the same vegance 1866 and tweaked them, please post

Hi,
Is this brick ok for power supply replacement? (Don't have my w110ER so can't check it...spceially the diameter, here it's 5.5*2.5*12mm and the voltage, it's 19V on w110er, right?)

That's 120 watts so depends on the plug. I have the 180W version but holding off till next month on the W110. Anyone measured the plug?
-
I just got the external X-Fi and it rocks. From the driver perspective it's more a lite version of the big desktop cards, but it's pretty good after all.
The only thing bothering me is that the remote control of my Z5500 interferes with the one from the X-Fi. Any Button I press makes the sound card raise the volume. :C
As an interface I use the JamVox. Ok it's quite expensive, but it's got an Instrument input, a Stereo Input and an amped Input for mics. Also it's its own monitor and sounds quite good for 2,5W.
All ASIO and the Modeling software now even works as .VST plugin.
-
Yep, I use a similar one.
-
Nice!
Remember you can also completely disable the internal soundcard with the mod BIOS. -
Look what just came in
Kingston hyperX!
-
I don't know if any one has noticed but the w110er doesn't seem to support certain resolutions like 1024x600 and 1024x640, which is a real shame and a puzzle. I think it has something to do with the intel driver but the results are the same on he newest one on intel's site. Every other 1366x768 display I've owned supported these resolutions.
Any thoughts?
EDIT* I figured out the problem; you have to manually add 1024x600 as a custom resolution under the intel GMA properties and then reboot the system. All's well that ends well
-
Quick question guys, how hot does your videocard get? When playing BF3 I constantly get around 85c....
Is this normal? -
My GPU gets to low 80s, and CPU gets to 90 if I leave turbo on. I'd call 90 the max "safe" temperature for any extended use (occasional spikes higher probably aren't too terrible), but 85 isn't anything to worry about. My 6950s (desktop cards, but still) hit 90 when gaming and I've had both for a year and a half with no problems. Mined bitcoins with both back when it was still marginally profitable and they spent over a week at 85-90 with no apparent damage.

Hi,
Planning to order a matte screen to replace the current glossy of my w110er...
The standard option suggested on this forum and elsewhere would be the AUO B116XW03
Also considering the CLAA116WA0CCW, seems to be compatible with similar specs but better viewing angles (quite important for me).
Both would cost under $100 incl shipping.
Any thoughts on the CLAA116WA0CCW? -
Or you could go with this or the US-market equivalent:
atFoliX FX-Antireflex Displayschutzfolie für: Amazon.de: Computer & Zubehör
I've applied one. It took 10 minutes to clean the display and apply, and another 90 secs. to remove the 3 corner bubbles. It applies perfectly, completely solves the gloss-induced problems, and the image compromise (a bit of graininess not unlike the one found on some HP or Dell IPS monitors) is more than acceptable.
HTWingNut has a nice tutorial for application (which I have not followed, except for the moist - but not steamy - bathroom environment). -
So anybody tried new Prema bios mod including 650M GT undervolting option ? I'd like to know how it impacts temperatures/consumption while gaming.
Can't wait to try this on W170ER
