Thanx. People can even still do decent overclocks it seems. Very cool mod.

Yep thanks for the suggestion, but the other issue with the current screen is its viewing angles, and the foil wouldn't help with that. The CLAA116WA0CCW has pretty good viewing angles, well at least according to this:

Just not 100% sure that it will work with my w110er. :p

I have no idea how to use that Turbostop thing. (don't reffer to me to a forum link, cause I don't care about it)
I turn on turbostop, and it doesn't even do anything.

On the other hand, when ever i plug my laptops 120w power supply in, there is minor lag spikes in games from my wireless mouse input. (no the mouse is not cheap) It works fine without it plugged in, so I assume it is interference or something from the wire, or the power supply it self that xotic-pc gave me.
It is very irritating, yet the wireless receiver is nearly 3 inches from the mouse, but so is the power cord. (The receiver is on the right USB 2.0 only port) which about a centimeter from it, is the power port.

I have no idea how I am suppose to 'move any power sources away from the mouse' on a portable laptop. (No.. a USB extension cable is not an option) Really, who carries around a 6 foot long USB extension cable with their laptop, just to power some stupid receiver for their mouse.

Anyway, just curious if this 120w power supply for the w110er has a very high interference to other electronics.
In my experience, it does. Not even my old gaming laptops 90 watt psu causes a single problem for my mouse.

It does, you just can't see it, coz you "don't care about it" ;)

Or wifi (or another wave component), which power consumption goes to full once plugged in.
If you have the same behavior on an usb3 slot, then it'd have nothing to do with the wire, at least.

Well, if you don't care about it then it's hard to help. Every user can't be spoon fed answers especially when it's a common questions. You could always post in the Throttlestop thread because the author, unclewebb, is more than patient with users and helping them out.

But since I'm such a nice guy, here you go:

    (1) Where you see "Set Multiplier" click the UP arrow until it says "Turbo"
    (2) Click the check box next to the "Set Multiplier"
    (3) Make sure the BD PROCHOT, EIST, C1E options are checked (should be by default)
    (4) Click "Turn On"

    That's it

    (5) Click "Save" if you want it to run those settings next time you start Throttlestop.

Don't click the "X" to close just minimize it.

To verify, load up the CPU with like prime95 or some other CPU intensive task and you should see the "FID" jump up to peak multiplier (3610QM should be 31 for 4-8 threads).

No issues here. I'm using the Logitech wireless unifying receiver. Try moving the USB receiver to the other side to verify if it fixes the issue.

I received my second BSOD in the past week while playing FIFA 12 through my TV @ 1080p via HDMI (not sure if that has anything to do with why it occurred).

Before this week, I had never experienced this problem. I am a bit worried. What could be wrong?

Try playing FIFA 12 on your laptop for a bit and see if you still get BSOD. What driver are you using?

for my ssd.. And a optimus bug, it delays opening apps by 10 seconds which is ridiculous loading times just to open notepad.. Or something.

Unrelated, but moving my unifying receiver to the other side of the laptop doesn't seem to change the interference problem. It surely isn't the mouse.. Tested my desktop, no lag period.

the issue does seem to get better slightly. I'm sure it is just me, if it is my computer causing the lag. I don't see what this laptop would choke at and cause input lag. It goes through every game I have at over 100fps..

Thanks Prema. I just upgraded to the Prema Bios Mod V1.2 UV and I love it. :) Not only can I disable the internal soundcard, but also I disabled HT.
Now my temps dropped significantly in stresstest. That's so awesome. I guess I have to donate again. ;)

Back on-topic though.. how significant is the temp drop when you guys UV?

Well my temp drop is most significant. :) (Disabled HT + UV Bios Mod) With the unit on the table (no tricks) the GPU peaks at 87°C in stresstest. Which is already awesome, because on regular BIOS it would reach 93°C after a few minutes and the unit shut off.
BUT the coolest thing is if I hold the unit up in the air or put it on a cooling pad, the GPU peaks at 80°C, which is just awesome.
On regular BIOS it would also hit 93°C and shutdown on a cooling pad or up in the air, it just took very long.

So I don't know the exact temp drop, but at least 10°C for me.
Again, thank you Prema. Very very nice job man. :)

    [EDIT]
Ok, it even gets better: With full turbo (i7 3612QM) the GPU peaks at 83°C, the CPU at 96°C. On a cooling pad of course. Still this is so awesome! :)

Hey Prema, hope things do get better for you. Got my W110ER last week and it's definitely been a beacon of great times for me amid upsetting employment and health insurance troubles. I definitely owe my gratitude to you and HTWingnut for being the pillars of this cool community. It was the abundant amount of info and useful mods and tools over here that helped me convince myself to get this particular computer and in general agree to fork out more than a $1000 while in the last 5 years I survived exclusively on $300 netbooks and an Xbox. So thanks.

weird thing happened. I switched from 302.59 to 302.77 (modded inf from laptop2go), which seems to be everyone's favorite. then the cpu never worked higher than 1200 mhz, which is its lowest clock. and everything seemed pretty laggy as well, though certainly not for lack of cpu power (1.2GHz should be enough for basic stuff).

then I switched back to .59 and everything is back to normal... this is on the UV bios, but this should not matter.

    anyone seen this before?

Has anyone tested battery life in Linux? I made some Linux vs Windows test in my w150er and it seems that nvidia gpu is not fully shutting down in Windows, while on Linux it seems to turn off.

Got it, thanks! Weirdly the file saved on my computer as a .ini.txt , and since my Explorer wasn't set up to see the type of program, I only saw .ini, wondering why it wouldn't replace the original system file.

If anyone is thinking of downloading this driver, I have some weird issue with it. It overclocks fine in games but any amount of overclocking will crash any openGL apps like Furmark the minute they run. Other than that, the lag issue is also gone. little improvement in the game I play most, Just Cause 2. 2-3FPS as most.

    @HTWingNut
Could you please record a short (~one minute) gameplay video of bf3 with fps in the corner? A big 64 player battle on a demanding map with lots of action going on would be great. With low settings, no AA/ 4xAF and 1366x768. It would help my buying decision a lot.
The existing youtube videos contain high/ultra gameplay with 20-30 fps. Since I want to have a smooth framerate (>50) they're pretty much useless

First post, looking to buy one of these machines. What vendor can get the product to my door the fastest? I'm going back to school with no reliable shipping address. What is the shortest time I'm looking at?

-Don't need: RAM, SSD, wireless card; can sell.
-Matte screen preferred, but I'm looking for shipping speed. Glossy will work for now.

Coming from Netbooks and assorted craptops, but built (3770K, 7950 CF & older 1090T, 460 SLI) desktops.

A question on the touch-pad: does anyone here dislike the raised, bumpy surface? I returned my HP for just this. Like rubbing you finger across a hologram. In the process of returning a Lenovo Y580 for poor build and fitment.

This thread has helped me settle on the W110ER.

    Thanks for the input!

I ordered my P150EM direct from Sager on a Thursday and had it in my hands the next Thursday, exactly 7 days later. They may not have the best service, but if you order direct from them you skip a lot of 'hoops' so to say.

I see a few ordered from RJ Tech. I like the idea of a bare-bones system and not waiting to have it installed (I'm more than capable). 3-5 days shipping is within my window, and the low price due to no HDD/RAM/OS/WIRELESS/PROCESSOR is nice. I'm still thinking of buying the processor from them, even if it is ~$30 more. They package it alongside the laptop I assume. Where else is a good place to pick up a i7 3610QM G2 socket?

Being new to Clevo laptops, can I expect the "default" experience from a laptop ordered from RJ Tech? What I mean is NO branding, other modifications, etc.

    Thanks again!

hi, i'm new and today I ordered a w110er thanks to this helpful forum, i just have a few questions:

HTWingNut, you said that you use 305.79 beta nvidia drivers but i cant seem to find those drivers, i can only find 304.79, did you mean 304.79? if not, could you point in the direction of 305.79 drivers?

Also, I purchased a 120w power supply just to be safe, but does it have any advantages over the 90w one? I guess it would probably charge faster, but i just wanted to know if 90w would have been enough for everything as i will be using it to play games with throttlestop enabled and use an external hard drive with my machine.

    the spec I ordered was:

    i7 3610qm
    glossy screen
    8gb hyper-x 1600mhz genesis kingston ram
    gt 650m
750gb seagate momentus xt hybrid hdd
    arctic mx-4 thermal compound

I mainly purchased this laptop because i want to use it as an emulation station and play the newest games at pretty good settings, how many years do you guys think the w110er will last before it starts struggling with future games?

@Meccabolix Congratz on your purchase! You will not regret it, especially for the needs you've listed! Myself just finished setting up a PlayStation 1 and Dreamcast emulators to work with both xbox360 and PS3 controllers, so now I'm more than happy with my "emulation" station! %))

Good questions. I also have a i7 3610qm and a 120w power supply, and that thing is scary, almost as big as an old Xbox360 adapter and definitely just as heavy.

I was looking at these two power supplies to use instead:
FSP Group NB L90 Ultra-Slim Universal Notebook PC Adapter
and a more luxurious option Thermaltake Toughpower Ultra Slim

Somebody on the forum was saying that they used the first option with and it worked fine with i7 3610qm, overclocking etc, and that the white connector is compatible with W110ER/NP6110. Now I can't seem to find that post, so it would be nice if someone could confirm whether either of the options will be a reliable replacement for the "death-brick".

[EDIT] Argh, dropped the laptop off a makeshift stand that I've put together in the office. Now it has two half-inch scratches on top of that beautiful lid! Ooooh the PAIN!!! I hope Prema's Bios has an option to remove scratches off the lid...

    Hi guys,

I was wondering if any W110ER owners could please recommend a decent (messenger?) bag to hold the laptop, charger, power lead and a mouse.

I have looked atseveral 11.6" netbook bags, however I would really be after a messenger bag that allows enough space in the front compartment for the adapter, power lead, a mouse and a portable USB optical drive without the potential risk of pressure damage to the laptop screen.

This should be possible, however the front compartment would have to be more or less the same size as the laptop compartment and would need to protrude at least an inch.

Thank you very much for your help

    - Zal

Thanks factory_666. I'm looking to run dolphin and pcsx2 on it, i've seen videos on youtube of the similar laptops running these emulators and am happy with the speeds it plays the games i have at. my ps2 has died and my big pc just takes up wayyyyy too much electricity, also the wife has the tv most of the time lol so this little monster is perfect for me as everything is in one little package and i dont have to bug my wife to carry on my gaming hobby.

i dont really mind about the size of the death brick lol but i would appreciate if you could let me know if it gets hot, as i'll most probably have the laptop on overnight most nights, i just want to know if it would be safe to be left plugged in all night.

i hope your laptop is okay!

Regarding the 120w "death brick"; isn't this only necessary due to the additional 10W TDP from opting for a 45W quad core? If so, would opting for a 35W 3612QM (2.1ghz per core as opposed to the 3610QM's 2.3ghz per core) not be a better option?

    @meccabolix

Wow for some reason I didn't even think of trying Wii and PS2 emulators, mostly going with old school stuff. In any case some emulators won't recognize connected gamepads by default so you might need to use something like this: I haven't yet made heads or tails of its trial, but after some furious random clicking I managed to get my xbox controller to work with pSX emulator.

Also if you are trying to connect a PS3 gamepad you will need MotionJoy, see the instructions here:

As for temperature of the deathbrick, I haven't noticed it get hot. Right now my laptop has been on for like three hours, mostly browsing and using Office programs, and the brick is almost room temperature. Maybe during CPU heavy sessions it might heat up, but I don't think it was an issue ever raised by other users. I've definitely left the computer on for a whole night (more than 24 hours too) before several times and didn't notice anything abnormal about the power supply.

@Zalgradis I believe that some reputable source in this thread stated that they used a 90W with 3610 with no problem, but then again I can't find that page.

i use my 360 for pc pad for just about everything except wii games, i used motionjoy for ps3 pads but it always messes up for me, that was the one reason i bought the 360pad :D

thanks dude i appreciate you telling me that, i use a crappy acer netbook (3rd one in two years) at the moment and it winds me up so much, the original power supply died along time ago so i bought a cheap one off ebay and it gets red hot so i don't trust it.

If you like using controllers you probably know of this, but just in case: Xpadder. It's super streamlined and allows you to map Anything to your controller, including simple macros, like "pressing A counts as a double mouse click". You can even use your analog sticks instead of the mouse in Windows. I've successfully mapped Witcher 1 and ARMAII (which has an insane control scheme) to my xbox gamepad and it works magically!

Sucks about your current ACER - but W110ER will be an amazing change for the better!

HTWingNut said in this thread, that Clevo has designed the W110ER to max power consuption of 95W. Thatswhy the 3612M is the highest model Clevo would officially support. So even with a 3610QM it should not be able to draw more than 95W. That should be easy to figure out with a Power Meter.

    [EDIT]
Thanks Prema and HTWingNut for pointing out at the nVidia driver 305.53. Finally a working driver. For me it doesn't perform as fast as 304.79, but it's working flawlessly. :)

Hi, I am using Thermaltake Toughpower 95W and never had any issues + it has a USB charger too. For some reason it was so cheap on amazon.co.uk

EDIT: It is around 31 US$ (£19) on amazon.co.uk link

This is the one I've been using for the last 3 months.

laptop bags > laptop shoulder bags > flight small laptop shoulder bag > STM Bags

The laptop compartment snugly fits the laptop and there is room for a mouse and the power brick in the space infront of the laptop slot. The slit on the front of the laptop slot is big enough for a tablet but I haven't used it for anything but a place to put my flash sticks and usb cables. I use the front pouch for my badge, keys, and pens/pencils but there is room for more stuff if you want to carry it up there.

I find the back pocket is really useless for anything other then a lock cable or a writing pad that has had most of its pages ripped out. The two inner pockets in the back pocket do work for keeping a metro card or other card that you need to access often and easily.

I can take a picture if you're having difficulty visualizing it. Microcenter carries them in their apple section if you have one of their stores near you.
