That depends on whether one uses 1 core or not, but I agree not to say you are correct too.

There are several things in play here.... but looking on it from a simple perspective some things are not to different.

Holy crap you guys totally missed the point. I wasn't talking about the architectures. I wasn't trying to quantify the difference. And I consider almost every computer slow, to some degree. An atom is slow, and a 1.2Ghz Ivy is slow too. That's it. Lets get this thread back on topic.

If your talking about MHZ and GHz, then yes. 1.2ghz is slow.
My desktop is running at 4.8GHZ and if you are comparing my desktop to my laptop, even the I7 3610QM @ 3.2 is terribly slow.

Don't worry I know what you mean, but I thought you were comparing the architectures.

Yes you were, unless you don't understand the meaning of "a bit" and "a ton" more than you know what is slow and what isn't :p
God people never admit they're just wrong.

Hey guys, just got my NP6110 today and I'm currently watching a 720p video and I have Firefox open and getting CPU temps of around 70 degrees Celsius. Is that normal? Thanks.

    W110ER/NP6110 « Prema Mod

Go here and do the bios mod 1.4, and do the Intel Management Firmware update and drivers.
After, on youtube watching 1080p videos should get you around low 50 degrees.

First of all 70C is completely normal for any tasks with this laptop and CPU.

and what's not compatible? You have to create a bootable DOS USB drive and put the BIOS mod files on them and flash from DOS, not Windows.

Erm, I've probably repasted and modded my machine more than anyone here. Temps are much lower now, but not while gaming, they still encroach 85C during the most intense games like BF3, although everything else is usually less than 80C.

this gets very annoying when this machine eats up 20000mW making my battery life only 2:30 Battery life blows. How come there is no way to increase it yet? It is a 62000mwh, most systems, even my old one should be able to run a steady 4-5 hours on that. And their hardware is less power efficient than this newer tech.

20W should get your over 3 hours (62/20 ~ 3 hrs). See Prema's modded BIOS thread. This has improved my battery life to 5 hours+ for browsing @ 30% screen brightness, using power saver mode.

Windows XP 64-bit Pro drivers for Clevo W110ER?

I am interested in a W110ER, but I first need to know if I can install Windows XP Professional 64bit (maybe in dual-boot with Mint or Ubuntu) instead of W7 Ultimate 64.

Someone knows if it's possible? How? Where and how do I find the drivers? TIA,

    Hi,
I recently tried to install XP Pro x64 on the W110er, and so far the only driver i had problems with is the GT 650M one, i modified myself the inf file for the card to be recognized, but then it had issues with Optimus(no way to toggle between GPUs). I have made a backup of XP and returned to 7 x64.So besides the Nvidia driver, every driver is available for XP x64.
    Cheers ;)

Thx a lot Clevernerd. Do you mean you have no problem using i7-3520m's Intel® HD Graphics 4000, and no problem using GT 650M, just problem toggling? Then how do you switch: using Windows XP 64 Pro Control Panel? with or sans rebooting? TIA,

Yup, Windows XP 64bit is possible. Is there any reason why you are not using windows 7 on such a powerful laptop?

Installing them now, will report! thanks for the head-up!

Yeah you should have no problem.

Use the chipset and engine management software directly from the intel website :)

First I am just considering. Right now I am switching from my old laptop (Feb 2006 12.1in 1280×800 Uniwill 223ei0, Pentium M760 1×2.00GHz, 2MB RAM, Windows XP 32-bit Pro Multilingual) to a recent one (Acer 3820TG, i5-480, Radeon HD 6550M 1GB, Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate, bought Jun 2011). I expected of course W7 to be, as usual, a regression, oppositely to the overwhelming marketingo speech all over the web always and systematically painting the previous version (currently Vista) as "crap" and the new one (currently W7) as "paradise", but in Jun 2011 I was deeply disappointed by the regression being this time far worse than expected, so in a hurry I shelved the new laptop to work on the old one so to retrieve a normal efficiency, and took the new one again only last month (Aug). I can suffer a lot lies, marketing, intentional regressions and sabotage, but this one outpasses my capabilities, so please don't talk me about it (sorry to be forced to tell it, but of course you know W7 is a catastrophe, none can tell it, but none can ignore it, no need I enter into the details).

I'm about to purchase the w110er, not sure which wireless card I should get. Should I get the Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6230 or the integrated 802.11 b/g/n wireless LAN?

As a *nix user I don't know much about Windows. However, I do keep up with the news and reviews on the occassion. Proper driver support and hardware optimization sounds like enough reasons to use the latest operating system on high powered machines to me, but I would like to know: What about xp makes it much superior to 7, in your opinion?

I haven't used xp in years and Windows 7 Enterprise is on my laptop for tax software, diagnosing client networks, and the occasional game. For what I use it for it is a clear improvement over xp. Anyways, I am just interested in what you think. No flamefest intended. :)

Hm, I've always stayed away from Vista, from the day of its buggy launch in winter 2007 and have remained an Xp-guy up until I got my W110ER. Now I'm on W7 Pro and I have no complaints. I do a lot of varied gaming and use a number of emulators and other non-commercial homebrew software and I've never run into any W7 specific problems or compatibility issues. I work with professional music editing programs like Nuendo and Reason (which also uses lots of home-made third party plug-ins) and everything seems to run with no problems whatsoever. Maybe it's because I use a clean install of Windows 7 that didn't come with any bloatware, so each peace of software was installed under my direct supervision, but I can't think of a better OS.

Speaking of marketing lies - I've spent last 24 hours trying to install Guild Wars 2 on my roommate's Macbook Pro. Not only most of the third-party Mac-specific software wouldn't work on his particular MacOS, but even Apple created utilities such as Bootcamp managed to crash, freeze and show anonymous error messages during use. Now THAT was a catastrophe!

Has anyone tried this unit on their 27" Korean 2560x1440 DVI-D panels? HDMI->DVI-D, VGA->DVI-D? On both Video cards?

    hi,

I recently bought a q271 and was disappointed that I couldn't get my Clevo w110er to output @ 2560x1440. Luckily, I found this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...8-dell-u2711-hdmi-2560-x-1440-resolution.html which gave me some hope. I was able to get w110er to output at 2560x1270 @ 50hz. I wasn't completely satisfy so I kept playing with the settings. I experimented with all sorts of timing and refresh rate until I found the right one . The key is the following.

    1. Get a HDMI 1.4a cable. I was stuck at 2560x1270 because I had an old crappy HDMI cable
    2. Goto intel graphic properties, add the following custom resolution of
2560x1440, all colors, 55hz refresh rate, and GTF timing
    3. Click save then apply
    4. Enjoy your gorgeous display. You'll be mesmerized.

Hopefully, others can find this post useful as I've found many misleading posts that your clevo w110er is limited to 1080p. "

Not much, both has bluetooth 3.0 and the 6230 has higher max speed of 300 mbps compared to the stock 150 mbps. Whether you would use the increase in transfer speed is the question.

That's probably going to personal preference and hand size lol :) I know some programmers who do it from 10" tablets with Bluetooth keyboard docks. I tend to stumble when typing on anything smaller than the standard keyboards on 15" laptops. From looks of it this laptop has plenty of room though for how small it is :)

I don't find it too small either (but it sure could be larger.. and it would help a lot), but it's the worst I've been using since a long time:
Misses key registration (must hit some of them in the center and all the way down to register), can't hold 3+ keys, bad volume/brightness shortcuts layout etc.
Certainly not the worst in the world, but far far from perfect for me, I really miss my older keyboards and touchpads.

Hmmm... Strange. The only keys that do not always register are, in my case, the arrows.

Otherwise, the keyboard has a nice pressure point and response. And, while it could be bigger, it's not too small. But I have small hands...

Hope for the best, but be prepared for an extraordinary long wait however. My reseller wouldn't get the chasis on time, so I had to wait more than a month. Don't want to upset you prematurely, but just in case it's taking very long, there is no reason to panic)) On time or not - you won't be disappointed with this wonderful machine!

I have no idea what I'm doing wrong here, I just put 1.4UV prema mod on my system, and 'BatteryBar' (The only way i can see time remaining as windows wont do it) keeps showing 11-12000mW discharge rate, with capacity 55,334mWh but says it is only 2 hours and 30 minutes. This is ridiculous, that should say 3:40 or 4:25.

    Or does BatteryBar just suck?

Edit: I went into my %AppData% and cleared the profiles for the app, seems to report 4:35 and at max a 5:03 gosh, this UV bios mod is awesome. <3 Prema

If you want to compare how large the keys will be to the one you use now, the w110er's keyboard has 1.4x1.4 centimeter keys. Most other keyboards may be in the 1.4-1.8 cm range. I've seen laptops with 1.8, they look huge. It is easy to type on, but may take just a bit to get used to the size. The key that bothers me the most is the ? and / next to the right shift key which also bothers me because of their size.

It all depends on the size of your fingers.

I use the 11.6 inch screen, and keyboard daily, bigger screens seem to bother me with the higher pixels per inch.

Once you get the machine, I recommend using prema's bios mod, or use a 'uv' version for the extra few hours battery life.

Don't you wish they utilized the entire width of the base of the laptop for the keyboard? There's about 2 cm of wasted space on both sides of the kb that I think could of really helped. I just received mine and I am somewhat missing my Timeline as1410/1810's (11.6") generous key size. Then again, a person can adapt to almost anything with enough time.. Bilingual KB *sobs*

Anyone tried/tested/benchmarked the new Nvidia drivers for the GT650M yet? Worth the upgrade?
