the 6230 card I had in another laptop was awfull, poor perfs, lags, lost of connectivity on battery, whatever power mode you force it on.
2 drivers update later, still almost the same. I would advise to buy another model from intel, or another brand.
I'm using a sparkle / RAlink chip right now which works great on WiFi + BT @same time (3 BT devices, mouse lags really occasionnally).

That one I have never seen however the buying choices are rather slim. I almost went for the Bigfoot 1102 combo card but it was three times the cost of the 6230. So I think this is what I'll look for if I can find a good price. I found an old test that further pushes me to the Bigfoot. I have an unused 6300 but holding off for BT combo.

yeah, the 6230 is god awful on download speed and obstructed performance. The only things going for it is the excellent power efficiency and rock stable drivers. I switched to the 6300 and plugged in a second antenna, this seems to have resolved the download speed issues but the intel cards can never match the raw throughput of the Atheros cards. However, even though I have an AR93980, I still prefer intel because the the Atheros drivers are total crap with very limited options and induces massive frequent DPC latency spikes. While modded drivers exist which solve these issues, they are a couple of versions behind and still aren't particularly stable. I can't speak for all Atheros cards but the AR9380 was a real power hog, it doesn't ever clock down or scale its performance (it only has a couple of perf states) unlike the 6300 which switches on the fly several times a second.

my 6235 is perfectly fine, though my 5ghz router wont work with it.. windows refuses to connect to it, but it worked fine on win 7. I might be the only one who actually uses windows 8 pro on the 6110.. the 5ghz for me, seems to only work with the slowest speed, 54mbit.

    I never tried the 6230.

Mine came out of the box with 4% wear, supposedly new battery, doesn't seem like it was so new at all. (New batteries shouldn't have wear)

Batteries can have wear out of the box. Battery packs have a predefined charge level indicated by the manufacturer, and the batteries used usually are within a few % of that recommended capacity. But battery cells aren't all created equal. Peak charge capacity may be a little less on some and a little more on others. Not to mention how old the battery is. Batteries lose charge and peak capacity over time. If the battery has been sitting around for six months, especially if not drained to 40-50% and stored in a cool temperature, it may lose a couple % of peak capacity. Just the nature of the beast. That's why it is not advisable to buy a second battery until you really need to use it on a regular basis.

However, it could also be a calibration issue. Drain the battery (slowly) to about 5% then recharge and your wear level will be calibrated, showing a more accurate charge level, and will likely be 1% or less.

Like HT said; not a big deal out the box. My Asus was the only one with 0 wear and now at 16% at 2 years. A replacement 12 cell had 3%.

My Tosh was 22% out the box. Now that had me stumped so Tosh sent a new battery @ 2% wear. 10 months later, it's at 45%, so, sending me third battery.

Since then I read a few post that claims that bugs in the ACPI and BIOS may be causing false readings. This or there are a LOT of bad batteries out there from reading other posts. Tosh tech support is clueless. I've also had no luck with any Li-Ion calibration procedures, but, YMMV.

    @Marksman30k

Just what I have been reading, the Atheros drivers are not as good as the intel. I have a 6300 from baby hemi sitting on the shelf. If not wanting the BT or giving up one USB, the 6300 would be installed. I have used the 6300 overseas and had NO problems with it. Christmas is nuts so will see what shakes out when I get more time. The 6235 is also on the short list.

    I have Win 8 Pro ^^

Guys, I have a really ing annoying problem with my touchpad... Basically I click down right down in the bottom left hand corner of the left mouse button and if I apply a little more than regular pressure it clicks and gets stuck in the wrong position in the left hand corner. If I then press on the right hand side of the button it comes back up into place, once again with a click.

I don't know how I should tackle this problem, but it needs to be solved.

    Hey Guys!

I have a quick question, originally on the W110ER is there thermal paste or a thermal pad on the GPU. If it's a thermal pad, is it possible to use thermal paste instead.

    Thanks for your help!

I haven't actually taken one of these apart myself, but I'm under the impression it's paste. Either way, you'll be able to replace it with a thermal compound of your own no problem. Just like the resellers offering the IC Diamond upgrade when customizing the unit, you can do the same yourself if you feel so inclined.

    @ Razyre

Well, after the Christmas nightmare you could touch base with your reseller..incase it needs to go back? There is a full takedown PDF posted if you want to investigate it from inside out. Me being lazy would try just a touch of silicone spray then wipe the key. If that turns you off then maybe just use a mouse untill someone else chims in. My keys are evenly spaced on the ends, any problems with yours?

I did a clean install on an old 250 GB dive. I used the MS USB tool and a Digital River W7/SP1 ISO and the driver DVD supplied by Clevo.

I wanted to see if there would be any snags with fresh W7 install or if any of the supplied drivers would blow up using couch potato approach or just in a hurry.

I also wanted to see what a full Clevo install takes up on the disk for future SSD use. Of course some drivers are out of date, I did find that Windows update made updating and missed drivers easy in the past. Some drivers will not be installed for some users and other driver (3) are not found, items 2,3 and 7 in the option files.

The biggest error, after all were installed, NO wireless driver! I had to go back and ask device manager to search Drivers (d :) and it was found. No idea why they failed when installing the BT Combo files.

This was the first clean install with factory driver DVD where I had a problem so any new guys may take note. Again, for you ornery seasoned guys, this was just a test.

Time: 2.5 hours including formatting USB drive then multiple restarts, SSD owners should take ½ hour less, LOL.

W7 activation, driver updates, Windows updates, then App installs: priceless.

Vanilla install took 24.8 GB with 61 processes from all users. Connection to internet, at this time, has not been tried.

No wonder so many users just clone the drives, warts and all ;)

Kicking back and listening to all you W8 installers.

@Derek: Thanks, I didn't think about the fact that they sell the thermal paste as an upgrade! I'm on the road and have to replace the entire motherboard, I used MX-2 Thermal paste last time and couldn't remember for the life of me what was originally on the GPU. Thanks for your help!

Yeah, it seems a lot of the AR9380's potential seems to be wasted considering all kinds of funky settings and capabilities were dug up with the modded drivers, the hardware definitely far surpasses the Centrinos. What I do like is the stability of the 6300 combined with superb range, it can pick up networks about 20-30% beyond the range of the AR9380 with usable speed. I've heard good things about the 6235, seems a lot of the 6230's problems were fixed plus you get bluetooth to boot. However, I seem to use BT like twice a year so it wasn't a large sacrifice for me.

THe np6110 has huge potential, cooling is just the issue.

Hey guys, I want to design a skin for this (probably just the lid, but I might make it flow onto the inside surfaces), but I need to know the measurements. Is there a template or something somewhere?

There isn't a template to provide, the dimensions are 11.30" (w) x 8.15" (d) but do allow about an inch around for any clipping. Because of that you dont want to put any critical design features around the very edge.

Honestly, the cooling in mine is great. Maybe it's the undervolt BIOS.

Hmm, probably going to take it apart and have a look at the weekend. Could you link to that PDF? And what do you mean evenly spaced on the ends?

Hey guys, This may have been answered already. But I was just curious, I have the Clevo W110er with the i7 3630qm, When playing CS:GO Ive seen the temps go as high as 86c, and when playing eve they around 76c is this normal for the laptop and are those ok temps for this cpu? My gpu is fine, hits around 68c-74c, I bought this laptop with the i53210m and then replaced it with the 3630qm and applied artic silver 5. Also I noticed the laptop stays at around 2.4ghz with max performance turned on in windows. I thought the clock speed would be higher. Thank you for any replies.

Since you replaced the CPU it's possible the paste job may have got some air bubbles or spread unevenly. I'd first try reapplying that making sure to apply even pressure throughout the application and see if that helps.

So you think thats a little high? Right now just idling its at around 55-60c with a cooling pad. I have some artic silver left and I can redo the thermal paste.

It's not dangerous high, but it's near there enough to make me think that the application may have been bad. If nothing else, you're in the same boat as you are now and you ruled one possible cause out.

Also whats your idea of applying evenly? I just put about a drop no bigger than the size of a pea on the GPU and cpu and then put the heat sink back on.

That's the method that's generally recommended, depends on who you talk to though. Evenly refers to making sure to set it down and once the heatsink makes contact to the compound don't let it slide around, let up the pressure, etc... allowing air bubbles to develop as that's what you're trying to eliminate with the use of thermal compound since air is a bad conductor of heat.

Thats the method I did, What do you think about just taking a straight edge once the drop is on and just spreading it evenly all over?

I personally don't recommend that method. Just try reapplying it again, the same way you did the first time, as sometimes just random things happen. If done correctly I'm pretty sure you'll be seeing lower temps.

55-60 is fine. That's a normal idle temp for the W110ER. 86 on the cpu at load is a little high, but it isn't anything to worry about really.

If you want better temperatures, undervolt the laptop, it did wonders for me.

I can run it at 2.9GHz and get temps under 80 degrees in almost all situations.

thanks for the help. I hope to keep this pc for about a year. Im waiting to see what CLEVO comes out with when nvidia comes out with their new mobile gpus. Like I said when playing eve for an hr it would go as high as 76c. And CS GO 86c so I guess I need to play and just see what happens.

    Hello,

So I think I've had the laptop for about one month now. I really like it. I use it at school then when I come home I plug it into my external display for my desktop set up.

I've owned the m11x-r1, m11x-r2, m11x-r3, and the m18x-r1. I got really great deals on all of them (either second hand or dell outlet) and I still always regretted my decision a little. This is my first time paying full price for a laptop and I feel I got every dollars worth, really no regrets. I got a dead pixel on my monitor and that's the only hiccup. For anyone out there who wants to give this laptop a shot but feels like they'll be giving up performance I gotta say I felt the same way but this laptop is a beast. I had an m18x and I feel only a very small negligible drop in computer capability switching over to this laptop.

I went through Xoticpc with Derek. They tried to help me save in every dollar, from student discounts to shipping to tax xD

Hardware recommendations with this laptop (My personal, to each his own, my recommendations are by no means the best or even good but it suits me)

    STUFF FOR ON THE MOVE
    - Thermaltake 95w Charger, much more portable, seriously SMALLER (WxL) than my phone but a little bit thicker (Galaxy Note 2)
    - Swiftpoint Mouse This isn't actually a gaming mouse, but I made it work. I binded everything to the keyboard, and this is the best mouse for me when moving around because at school and work my desks are really small and I can't use touchpad
    - Razer Kabuto Mousepad Super portable mousepad what

    STUFF FOR HOME
    - Logitech G700 My main mouse at home
    - Samsung Monitor
    - USB Hub Super super important for a desktop set up
    - Audioengine A5+ Speakers
    - Laptop Cooler
    - Keyboard

At the time I bought this laptop I was selling my m18x-r3 and m11x-r3 I figured I would only keep the w110er and my desktop. I ended up selling my desktop too because I found I could plug my entire desktop into the laptop and it runs just fine. I does run very hot though because it has to render everything in 1080p. That's where the laptop cooler comes in to play, surprisingly the laptop will run fine for about an hour but after it will hit 85 degrees and I haven't chanced it higher than that.

    SOFTWARE RECOMENDATION
    For battery life
    -Prema UV Bios
-Disable Hyper Threading (Honestly there is no point unless your a programmer or something) other than BF3 I have no games that take advantage of this feature
    -Windows power saving profile
    -ME Drivers and ME engine
    -306.97 Nvidia Driver

    Performance
    -Throttlestop
-MSI Afterburners (Haven't needed to use this yet)

    rsz_20121129_224601.jpg

Someone suggest for me a external laptop battery =[[[

I find myself camping out for things a lot but this Black Friday... I was not prepared at all, I was rushed to the location and I spent so much time in the cold bored and all my electronics died. I realized though, every time I camp out even when I'm prepared all my ELECTRONICS die at some point during the night and I can't sleep outside.

Does anyone know a good HIGH HIGH HIGH capacity external laptop battery? The maximum one, I looked at some on Amazon but they got bad reviews. If there are no good high capacity ones is there at least a really really reliable trustworthy one? I have 2 campouts coming up and I'm having flashbacks from Black Friday *shiver*. I camp out for something almost every month because I collect Disney stuff so an external would be awesome. I also play games on my laptop on the integrated graphics so I get around 2-3 hours of gameplay before my laptop dies. Then I go to my iPad then my phone. The night is usually 12-16 hours long though, so yeah. External battery for laptop, help me. Thanks

I recently purchased a w110er from pc specialist in uk with i7-3612m and a matte screen. I have a m17x r4 with a 7970m. There where a couple of things I wasn't sure about prior to buying, and for anyone interested I would say that the build quality is actually very good. The matte screen is also very acceptable. The pixel density is very good for this size of screen and also means the GPU can provide very good frame rates at native resolution. The overall experience of gaming on this is very comparable to the m17x at 1080p.

The w110er is also slimmer than I expected. Skyrim at high settings and max draw distances on this 11.6 matte screen is really remarkable. Also you can unplug the charger without a drop in performance, unlike the m17x. The screen isn't as bright and punchy as the m17x but the matte option looks really good. Highly recommend pc specialist for anyone in the uk.

This has probably been covered a few times but I thought it might give an idea of what this laptop feels and plays like. I could definitely game happily on this unit

Different temps on different cores, when all are stressed, means the heatpipe isn't screwed equally on the surface (or it is bended)
You should be able to get almost the lowest temp on all cores !

What is this in response to? Also, individual cores can vary by as much as 10C, doesn't mean anything is wrong with the heatsink.

To dalekinder a few posts above =)
They can vary, but they shouldn't unless they're under different loads.
I experimented a lot with the heatsink, and found that when it was not equally screwed/applied, I got like 45° on a core and 55 on the other.
When re-applied correctly, I got 46/47 on both, that's it.

Here are two posts about one of the largest ones that happens to be just about exactly the size of the bottom of the laptop.

It isn't cheap or widely available but he seemed to have no problems with it. I never pursued purchasing it myself as with HTwingnut and Prima's help I've gotten the >4 hour battery life I need from the factory battery.

That's a bunch of toys to to use to stand around and save money? The cheapest option is to simply leave the laptop at the house. If your like me and do not have good sense then this is your next cheapest option; CLEVO W110ER Battery | Replacement CLEVO W110ER Battery Online Store

Spend a bit more and go with the slab battery discribed above. For 9 hours of gaming, and very handy at primitive camp sites, you have this 30 lb very quiet wonder: eu1000i_1x1.jpg

Depending how close your are to car or if willing to a drag around small wheel cart, you have option of a 12 volt battery and DC/DC inverter for laptop.

Reviewing the above, I really suggest just the ipad and phone. Of course, YMMV. :)

This reminded me of a guy asking for computer advice when I was a Samsung rep. His spec requirements being a Xeon processor, 64gb Ram, desktop gpu in the range of a 480 (out at the time), and a 7 hour battery life. He'd go out in the woods playing Mars landing simulation games with friends while camping. Told him to get a Micro ATX case with a gas powered generator. He didn't like my answer.

But yeah, to get that kind of battery life out of the 6110 you'll want to definitely look into a power source you can cart/carry around when you do these events. I'm running a UX51 at the moment, has the 650 in it as well, and I only get about 2-3 hours gaming on a full charge. If not the power source, do as the post above suggested and just go with spare batteries to swap in and out.

Hey Razyre, Ive very interested in doing this. Could you explain how I go about this? I used throttle stop to bring my cpu speed up to 2.9ghz and it makes a big difference on some games. Usally around 10-12fps, What are your temps looking like. But the temps are crazy when I do that.

Well I do the exact same as you, run the CPU at 2.9GHz using throttlestop, but I'm using Prema's undervolt BIOS. This basically gives less voltage to the components using less power and meaning lower temperatures. It's really easy to do, just go to his blog below. However, don't try and overclock your GPU too far as it will start artifacting pretty quickly.

    W110ER/NP6110 « Prema Mod

Do take into consideration that where I'm living is quite cool at the moment indoors, with ambient temperatures likely around 20-22 degrees in the house. Outside it's hitting 0 sometimes, so it's pretty chilly here.

As for temperatures? Idle I get from 55 degrees to 60 and under load no more than 70 most of the time. It can go up to 80 if it's benching or something.

Also; Bluetooth is not working for me under Windows 8. I try to enable it and the option either says "Could not turn on bluetooth", or it says it's turned on and then bluetooth disappears. I have the Intel 6235 card which has bluetooth onboard.

Nope. Only thing is Prema's mod and Fn+1 to turn on fans full speed.
