860m spanks the 765m in BF4 according to notebookcheck, I didnt know it would be such a big improvement!

Does anyone know what happened to the 3G module on the 7338? It's not listed as an option on the Sager site.

From what I've seen discussed, it's very close to the 770m.

The SS is with the Maxwell card, yes. 2GB, soldered in place.

Has anyone tried playing titanfall on the w230st? It seems to have insane tearing and jittery all over? Is somethign up with my mouse maybe? This was on 1366 x 768, everything very low.

From what i can see the card shipping i the w230ss is the maxwell version of the 860m. 2gb ddr5 @50w of power. Most fps benchmarks show the latest games playable at 1920x1080 at medium to high settings w no problem. It will struggle on bf4 on ultra (24fps). There is a german review on notebookcheck.com use bing translate on it to see the whole thing. Google translate cuts it off. From what i gather the speakers a tiny and muddy was the only real complaint along w fan noise. I cant see it bothering me since im coming from a np9820 with 3 fans that i always keyed up to high for gaming..

Framerates for the 860m seem to be on par w the 770m.

The keplar version of this card is supposed to be on the mxm version with 4gb ddr5 and use 75w.

I played the beta and had the same issue. I fixed it and it was super smooth at 1080p though. Did this and it cleared right up:

    1.Open Nvidia Control Panel
    2.Click Manage 3D Settings
    3.Program Settings tab
4.In Select a program to customize section you need to add Titanfall.exe or select it if you already have it on list.
5.After that in Select the preferred graphics processor for this program select High-performance NVIDIA processor.
    6.OK or Apply.

Nah this isn't an issue of it using IGP. It's really obvious if it uses IGP because graphical glitches galore.
So you were able to play this game at 1080p full details and it was "super smooth"?

Another thing I noticed with this game is the the vram usage. It's always pinned at 2026MB which might be causing some issues with framerate. I play at 1680x1050 so maybe 2GB is enough lol Quality settings don't seem to affect vram usage.

Seems the higher resolutions are not available as yet - some supply issue apparently.. I was going to go with the 1080 anyway so no worries.

Is the 860m really killing the 765m? I have only had a quick google on it, but it does not to seem too significant a difference. For example, GeForce GTX 860M vs 765M

I only picked up my W230ST this week and it plays every game I have installed at max or close to max settings. Based on what I see from the information about the 860m, I dont think its worth the upgrade. I will wait for the 9x before I seil up and move on as I cant see how, in practical real terms, the newer generation will make my games run much better. I might have to drop the resolution to 1600 or drop the settings from ultra to high wheras the 860 wont need to - but for me thats not a deal breaker.

Mine also indicated the 765m was being used, but doing this anyways fixed my issues. And yes, "super smooth" is accurate.

I'm planning on purchasing the W230SS.
My dilemma is what CPU to get - 4700 or 4810. It's only 35$ between the two.
What's the recommendation? Will the W230SS handle the extra thermal from the 4810, or should I stick with the 4700?

I would highly suggest the 4810 since its the brand new refresh, for the low difference in price its worth it for the speed boost. If it were a much larger price gap I'd suggest the 4700 since you probably wont see much difference in real world use. But for $35 go for it.

Personally I think you'd be crazy not to get the 4810 for $35.. that's a huge discount, and if temps are an issue, just undervolt it a little.

Agreed there, though I think if you're going for a top-notch spec Scan will beat them, also PC Specialist's warranty options have always bugged me, a couple of times now I've been tempted to buy from mysn because of the ridiculously long warranty period. Pwn were just there when I needed a barebones in a hurry. Now why aren't all these builders getting stock in, is Sager soaking it all up or something?

No idea why they arent getting the stock.. every other gaming laptop on pc specialist now have the gtx 800m gfx cards as options.. i would've thought the SS would be there as well. Ah nevermind, ill have to wait and see. Ill check out that Pwn but last time i checked they haven't got the SS listed yet either, ill check at the end of the month. XMG are quite overpriced i find.

How's the build quality of the W230ST? I plan on getting the W230SS, but the price is only justifiable if I can use it for 5-6 years. The most maintenance I can tolerate is replacing the thermal paste or battery, but not the screen, hinges, keyboard, cooling fan, or etc.

I probably won't be playing games that much by the time I graduate from the college of engineering.

I can't speak for the W230ST, but I have owned 2 Sagers so far (NP9260 & NP7280) and they both have held up very well. The NP9260 is about 6 years old and still runs w/o issues on a daily basis. The NP7280 is my main system and I use it every day also.

The NP9260 was transported on a daily basis and carried on the back of my motorcycle for about every day for three years. I even dropped it twice from about 3 feet. It was still in my back pack, but I was still surprised that it did not break anything.

So I'd have to say SAGER makes very reliable laptops.

I have a W230SS on order, and I'm expecting the same quality.

What are the chances you can switch the motherboard on a w230st to a w230ss one with the 860m? Does anyone sell clevo parts that you can order the motherboard from? I checked some places online and did a google search, but didnt find anyone that sold parts. Dont want to have to buy another bare bones kit since my chassis/screen are perfectly fine.

I know the w230ss isnt shipping yet, but no one I found sold any clevo motherboards.

Hey WingNut! Will you be doing a review on the NP7338? It is so close to the NP7330 in many respects I was wondering if you would be covering it at all. You (and Prema of course) provided a huge amount of knowledge and assistance via these forums with my existing NP6110.

    Someone has created one.

Was that a wrong move considering the new w230ss is on it's way? Should I have waited?

Really mate, I would not worry about it. I took delivery of my ST the same day the news broke of the SS coming out. I debated sending it back, but kept it becasue it runs every game I play (Bioshock Infinate, COD, Crysis 3, Diablo 3, etc, etc) at max or close to max settings at 1080p and the GPU never goes over 68C. It will continue to play games for the next 2-3 years quite easily.... the only real world gaming difference between the 860 and 765 is that the 860 will get slighly higher FPS, but for me if I am getting 40+ I am happy anyway.... and in future releases the 860m will continue at 1080p max and in the 765 you might have to choose between 1080p and high rather than ultra or 720p at ultra. Again, in real terms I dont care too much as this is only a small travel machine. On such a small 13 inch screen I cant tell the difference between 1080p and 720p anyway - others can, but for me it makes no difference. Also, as the 765m is running so cool in mine it can be overclocked if I need more power anyway.

In your case, as games are not a big deal, it literately makes zero difference. Its all about the CPU in your case which wont perform any different. So what you have is a machine which is more than up to what you want it to do, that can play games if you ever want to.... and that was at least £100-£150 cheaper than the newer SS as I guarantee the price will go up. In your case, for what you need it for, even if you had the choice for an SS I would have still got the ST as you dont need more GPU power.

Im over the moon with mine, I am sure you will be too :) No point getting hung up on a new one coming out, its a laptop, they are superseeded every 10 seconds anyway.
