I looked into oiling the fan but it seemed to me that there was no cap to remove under the label on the fan, just a fixed plastic cover.

I may take you up on your kind offer re the French reseller if I have no success here. Do you live in France?

Thanks kleinad. I will send them an email and hope they can help :)

Head over to the members market and have a look as that is where all sales on the forum should be happening.

Hi, i was wondering would any of you guys be interested in Purchasing my W230ST?

I have come to the conclusion that it is simply too small for me to use comfortably. I need a computer with a larger screen. Its about 4 months old but still has the plastic on the back of the screen.

    Its a i7 4702mq, 8 gigs of ram, 256gig Crucial M5 ssd and a 750 gig drive.

Please send me a PM with an offer if you are interested. It has no issues of any kind and works perfectly. I just need a laptop with a 15+ inch screen since this causes me too much eye strain.

    Thanks.

    Could anyone help me?

My Crucial M4 256GB (9.5mm) won't let the backplate close ... it's too thick at the back. I thought the bay was 9.5mm?

I have the 230ss with the smaller samsung drive in it. I took two pictures of the foam spacers included. There are two in the bay and on foam square on the drive. Any way you can post pics of what you have? uploadfromtaptalk1397635438819.jpg for a 9.5 mm to fit the foam square (you can see it on my drive) would have to come off. Make sure it not stuck on the inside of your cover. If you need more room the two foam pieces in the bay can be taken out. From the two foam strips i measured 9.5mm. If i go to the bottom without the foam i measured 12.7mm You'll need to figure out what gives the drive enough room. Hope that helps you.

I ended up using the SSD from my desktop (480GB M500), it's 7mm and fits perfectly without any spacers or whatever.

I'm not using any spacers (including the foam square) and the 7mm fits just right, no idea why but my bay doesn't seem to accustom 9.5mm thick drives.

You will want video drivers from nvidia and chipset drivers from intel of course (their websites directly).

I'm thinking of getting the w230ss and was curious if longtime owners of the w230st have experienced any high wear areas on the laptop due to the plastic construction, for example the areas next to the touchpad where you rest your palms, the touchpad itself or the keys. My last Clevo (Sager 8130np equivalent) quickly developed a lot of wear on the palm rests next to the touchpad in that the normal rough plastic service became discolored and smooth from skin oils.

Yes, there's some wear, I think because it's painted. Otherwise, it doesn't affect function of the laptop.

If you're really concerned just put a cell phone screen protector on that area.

Prema, I tried using this last week. Malwarebytes started screaming after it quarantined the file [pup.opencandy]. W7 online rejected the number key as "generic" (W110ER), so ended up with phone support to activate back-up drive.

I assume it caught heat from somewhere, that's how my bezel started to bend.
But beware, if you question the build quality of those cheap plastics too much, some other members who live in denial get angry pretty fast ;)

Oh my.. I'll try to contact LPC and see what they will do.

Hehe.. but honestly I wouldn't expect any laptop to put up with what I often do with them.. I'm not a light user and I don't care much about breaking somebody's legs with a laptop :D

How did you deal with it, or did you just end up taping it like I did?

Until now I didn't care to fix it, only drawback is some major backlight bleed.
I think I'll try to heat it again, and bend it the other way around to try and make it right....
Not really sure about if it's a good idea or not though :-/

Yep, that one. Be sure to do a custom install and decline any additional software installations. That's an annoying part, but common with many of these third party apps these days. They gotta make a buck somehow.

searched this thread but really could not find a definitive answer.
If i want to add memory which voltage should i use.
I tried to use 2x4GB 1.5v sodimm modules and i had strange behaviour till i pulled one sodimm out.

The clevo website says 1.35v, but i have seen multiple people answer that clevo's are a bit picky with sodimms and would not recommend using 1.35v 8GB sodimm's.

I want to upgrade to 2x4GB or 2x8GB not sure yet.

Haswell must be paired with 1.35v modules. This is an Intel spec.

... go ahead and do custom install. At this point it did not mater cause the hijack file was already written. LOL, talk about shoot the messenger! BTW, that screen shot was from second attempt, there was NO choice on first attempt. I suspect not enough sneaky juice was used.

Anyway, the file was isolated before wrecking my registry, but the dang key still did not work. Online W7 reported this was a "generic" key and denied activation. Of course, ymmv, and has worked fine for many depending on when drive was read.

    Cheers

Hey guys, I got my notebook and the hard drive failed within two months of buying it. I got a replacement (a headache of its own) and put in in the laptop (simple, easy). Now when I turn the computer on I get the "Reboot and Select Proper boot device" message. After reading a few other posts (that all assumed I'm already a computer scientist, not just a guy who bought a laptop) I learned that BIOS is what I needed, and to access it by holding F2 while turning the computer on. When I go to "boot" my only options are "IP4 Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller" and "IP6 Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller." I have no idea if either of these are right (since neither start my computer) but I do know that when I choose either, the laptop still won't start.

Any and all help will be appreciated, although I would like to point out the skill and knowledge level of those who ask for help is always different from those capable of supplying it. So acronyms and stuff are pretty useless to me.

Don't hold F2, keep pressing it repeatedly to get into BIOS.

Did you image your drive or restore it from a backup? Otherwise you'll have to reinstall Windows on the hard drive.

Your hard drive is not detected by the computer, either it is badly installed, or it doesn't work.
Open the back cover again, unplug then replug the hard drive, and if problem persist check if you can hear it running when you turn the computer on.
Then see with your seller, unfortunately ;)

You may wanna try it from a linux live CD or a windows install, if it still fails it is definitely hardware (and it seems like it)
Then you can either send it back to warranty, or try to unmount / remount it yourself, or even order another one for ~30€ if I remember well.

It's a nVidia bug, happens when game res differs from desktop res, try latest drivers or change either your desktop or game resolution.

So what are you saying here? Don't do Win 8.1 on the W230ST? Would be great to know if I should just stick to 8 when I re-install soon.

Nop, just saying it's a known bug... Either you deal with it (alt-tab when it's showing and it shouldn't bother you anymore), or you stick with the desktop resolution when gaming, or you try latest drivers/firmware to check if it's fixed. I don't game anymore recently, so can't say.
I wouldn't discard 8.1 just because of that minor annoyance.

Some people have fixed it with a re-installed, being a known bug you can research what others have done to try and fix it.
