Hey guys, thank you for all your reviews and informations. I bought couple months ago one with i5-7400 CP , 8 GB RAM, 250 GB SSD. Now I'm thinking about upgrading my CPU. Did anyone of you upgraded that Laptop with the newgen CPUs, like i5-8400? Would be interesting to hear some reports of you guys.

Thank you for the quick response. I guess the only options I have is to buy an i5-7600 or an i7-7700. I'm not sure if this would be a big upgrade.

Well the 7700 would offer a bump in frequency of around 800Mhz or 25% and offer hyper threading. So it depends on what you are doing.

For gaming for instance it would make no difference.

I do lot of simracing. My intention was to try streaming, which I guess, requires hyper threading. Last time I played iRacing, my CPU utillization was between 80 and 99%. I dont think I can stream this Game. That was the reason I started to ask you guys. Buying the 7700 CPU would be solve my problem but the current prize is too expensive for me, I have to wate.

Running a high CPU usage title and streaming is one place you would see a benefit yes, it would be a decent jump in that case.

Ordered one from ebay, comes from Germany, beware if you are in the UK paypal charges you about 30 pounds for the transaction but you only see it after you've paid.

I bought the W65KJ1_KK1 from SHS few months ago (i5 7500 + GTX 1050), I assume that the latest BIOS update mentioned in this post should be working here (for every model like W650 or W651 ?). Does it solve the Intel SA-00086 flaw, or Spectre ? Did someone have any official changelog ?

OK the Prema ME Tool is working for the first flaw.
For the BIOS I assume that using the FlashWin64.bat script is enough. I'll do that the day I'll start having issues with my computer, don't want to risk bricking it.

@Meaker@Sager Do you know if this system has a MUX for the graphics setup or not? After dumping the BIOS, and tinkering with it's contents, it has several options for enabling just the Nvidia GPU, but I question whether or not it's a good idea to try, given there are no official options to disable Optimus/MSHybrid on the system within the Clevo control center options.

Have done a lot of work with the unit so far, I just need to test a few more things, and direct dGPU usage is on that short list.

Thanks for the quick replies. Guess that finishes my to-do list for this unit. I really do like the design of it, and for the low price tag, it had a ton of room to expand upon it. Managed to use a delidded i5 6600T in mine with CLU on the 1050 Ti (after taking some precautions to prevent spillage) and a 120hz panel upgrade (B156HTN05.2). Got less than $800 in the entire machine, which for the hardware inside, that's a complete steal.

Hopefully we get a Coffee Lake revision in the future, as those i5 8400's look extremely potent for the price, and should easily work with this cooling solution after a delid. My 6600T doesn't even go above 50C under 48k FFT Prime95, with a 3.3ghz all-core turbo, lol. GPU does get slightly warm at 70C with an undervolt down to .950mv, but that is to be expected at 120 frames per second in Overwatch. I really need to get around to doing a video review of this unit, as I feel a lot of people are missing out on this hidden gem.

That's the gaming boost of a 6700HQ/7700HQ under prime 95 loads so not bad especially at those temps.

Dies the W650KK1 have different cooling systems or is it always the same? Is the cooling syste strong enough for the 6600k or are the temperatures too high? Is it possible to undervolt the 6600k if the temperatures are too high?

I would say a 6600k would work fine after a delid. You can undervolt the CPU using XTU, and likely maintain full boost under load. My 6600T when hitting a 3.3ghz all-core boost doesn't hit 50C under 48k FFT Prime95 with a -75mv undervolt.
I'll take a look at that on my unit, have not tested the Intel iGPU driver in a while. Am honestly surprised my brightness control still works after swapping out to a 120hz panel, lol.

i am really unsatisfied with my standard FullHD panel because its very very dark. Which exact panel model did you replace with which 120Hz model. And did you need a new cable ?

I got this panel here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N6V59E9/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
You can find it on Ebay for about $20 less, but I paid extra for the Amazon prime delivery. You don't need a new cable either, as both panels are 30 pin eDP. The swap is easy, and only takes 4 screws. If you need a guide on how to replace the panel, I recommend following this video:

This isn't the exact same model, but the chassis is identical, and comes apart exactly the same way as the W650KK1. I will say, even with the new panel being a TN panel, it's actually quite a bit brighter, and the colors are not as bad as that extremely cheap IPS panel either. Viewing angles are poorer, but only if you are sitting at an odd angle when using the laptop. The biggest difference is smoothness in motion, which is worlds better than the stock IPS panel. The stock panel gave me a headache when testing out games like Overwatch, and this new panel has fixed that entirely. Shame we can't get the G-Sync functionality of the panel working, but for $130, was a worthwhile upgrade.

i had already swapped Displays in my W230SS so this shoulden't be much different. The problem will be to get this B156HTN05.2 Display in my country (Germany) yes G-Sync will not work because of missing Licence in the NVIDIA VBios and there is no DISCRETE mode for the iGPU. Sadly its sold out only one ebay note (shipping from the US).

Is there any similar Model that would be easier for me to get my hands on and that will fit 1:1?

*damn i even had had this display in my P651-HP6-G should have swapped out before selling it ;-D

not excuses for Intel, that's a gimmick for making more money :(
AMD is using a different policy , new ryzen 2xxx are compatible with old motherboard and AMD is also sending a cpu for making the Bios update :)

coffee lake cpus are not compatible because Intel doesn't permit that, so 7700k is the top for this laptop

The 7700 is the highest officially supported CPU due to the cooling system.

I just installed the 120hz screen you suggested and it turned on okay and was auto set to 120hz, but my brightness will not change from max. Any input? was hoping it would just work like yours did after reading your post here. H/W:0A F/W:1 is also written on the back. mind comparing with the one amazon sent you? (i used the link you posted for the b156htn05.2, hardware ID in windows is AUO52ed

i did read of a method a user called 'hot swapping' (which other users said was dangerous so maybe do not attempt) your screens. meaning, have the computer running with the non brightness bugged screen in when you do the swap to the new one. I'm going to call eluktronics in the morning asking about swapping the keyboard to a backlit, and if they can help with my panel issue. maybe with a bios update. this screen is used in another of their models, one which starts with a P i believe
