Sorry for the late response, I'll look into this on my unit to double check for you. Oddly enough, mine worked out of the box. Using the function key + brightness key on the keyboard, the brightness control works fine. You have the latest driver for your iGPU, right?

yes, and the brightness functions start working again if i put the IPS panel back it.

The functions are still there, they dont disable with the 120hz screen, but 0% looks like 100% and there are no actual changes outside the interface sliders.

the dude i talked to at eluktronics support claimed that there was no keyboard replacement which would allow for backlit, and there was no support he could give about120hz screens questions for this model

Keyboard backlights need a 2nd connector on the motherboard.

makes sense. I tried asking the eluktronics tech about the 120hz screen possibly being updated in bios to be an officially supported screen, or if he could forward any information to anyone in development down the line or something; didn't seem like he could help or provide any other information of any kind, as with the keyboard question he repeated "can't be done/isn't supported" .

actually finding the screen size to be too small to game comfortably, going to give it some more time though

120 Hz screens have different connectors to cope with the double bandwidth requirements (4k 60hz panels usually share the same one) so a model has to ship with a high resolution display or 120Hz from the factory for it to be an upgrade option.

I think some people got it to work. I was always under the impression that 120hz FHD was still a 30 pin connector vs the 4k 40 pin.

Well my own is certainly 40 pin :) all of our 120hz 1080p panels are 40pin AFAIK.

My keyboard is loose on the left side. These don't appear to screw down either. To be clear I didn't completely dismantle this but I have the bottom panel off and the top panel 80% off. From the "G" key top to bottom and left.

If I firmly hold my thumbnail on the keyboard plate the keys sound normal.

Does it do the same when all re-assembled? Was it like that from purchase or did it recently happen?

It’s only a few days old and was like that immediately.

The only thing I can do to fix it is wedge some thermal pads between the keyboard and the PCB.

    Oh absolutely.

I was curious if this was a known issue that could be addressed. Something I could add to the review next week.

Sorry for the late response to this thread, have been focusing on work lately. I did manage to get a video of my W650KK1's brightness control when using the AUO B156HTN05.2 panel.

I have not yet taken the panel back out to get a picture of the back of it, but I'll try to get to that once I finish working on my actual PC. Hopefully we can figure out why brightness control is working for some, and not for others. @B0B I know you just recently posted a video with your B156HTN04.2 panel. If we can compare some information, we might be able to figure out exactly what makes these two panels different, and why brightness control is not working on some of the systems when using these aftermarket panels.

It was a LG panel. It’s a 30 pin connection and the AUO42ED as well as pretty much any other of its type will be a direct swap.

    No cable issues.

With Intel HD 24.20.100.6025 (Intel i5 7500 + Intel HD 630 + original LCD panel), brightness controls with FN+F8 & F9 keys is still not working.
ControlCenter v5.001.1.73 installed. Reverted back to driver version 23.20.16.4901.

I've gone through every page trying to find out more about this laptop, W650KK1. I am definitely impressed for this price. I decided to stick with 8GB 2400 DDR4 SODIMM RAM and an i5-7500T so I can get pretty good performance along with pretty good battery life. I think with a regular CPU I would probably have gotten 4-6hrs of battery life, so I'm hoping this lower powered T version will help gain even more battery life.

Though I may just sell of the 7500T and get a regular desktop i5 7500 and downvolt so get more battery life. We'll see! I'm waiting for the CPU so hope to get it here soon!

It comes down to the allowed TDP and voltage. With the same limits the chips would be the same (with only silicon lottery differences).

appreciate your efforts. Has anyone been able to get this to output 100+hz to an external screen? It's HDMI 1.0 right? so we can't

I don't believe the W650KK1 has Displayport. I don't see one on my unit, unless they came out with a different revision.
I can try the HDMI port to see exactly what the limitation is. I have a few high refresh rate monitors of varying resolutions that support HDMI, so I'll try to get that information for you soon.

No it was my mistake I mistranslated to the wrong Sager product and got the wrong specs. With the HDMI you can try, occasionally it's just not certified for 2.0 but can do it on some models.

as far as i can tell, my hdmi 2.0 cable only detects @ 60hz on a 144hz screen using my w650kk1
so cant use 144hz on external screen.

i'm probably going to try flipping this

Did someone take a look at this driver (1. Update Intel VGA WHQL Driver version 23.20.16.4901INTEL VGA_180504.zip) on their website ? Is this a custom Intel driver or the generic one ?
I also have dGPU freeze issue as mentioned here since the Windows 10 1803 update : https://communities.intel.com/thread/119093?start=705&tstart=0 . Opening or closing an app induces a 0.5s freeze (firefox or computer settings).

I've installed the bios on my w650kk1 but i'm still running a kaby lake cpu, haven't purchased a coffee lake cpu yet. The installation itself was painless, I had zero issues flashing the image. One nice thing is that a lot of the bios options are unlocked. The stock bios was pretty restricted.

My cell phone camera is garbage, but there multiple menus with alterable settings. Settings that allow you to change when the cpu fan kicks on, USB settings (xhci enable/disable), pci settings for every port, storage device settings that I don't exactly understand with device type selectors for 'unknown', 'gen3' or 'ssd' (not even sure if changing these does anything, i've ran benchmarks and it always comes up the same)
To be honest, there's so much there that it's overwhelming but many of the settings actually DO something. I've managed to up the temperature when the fan kicks on, and at one point I changed something and basically had to pull the cmos battery to get it to boot (oops). There are turbo settings, power settings, Intel ME settings, settings to overclock K processors, etc.
