I ended up putting an i5-8400 in mine. Hardest part was getting tiny bits of tape on the processor contacts. It's sweet. Kind of wish I had gone with an i5-8600k. My max temp is around 81c at 100% prolonged. Screenshot (11).png Screenshot (10).png

dsanke's bios is based off of 1.05.13, at least that's what cpu-z tells me.

A double pair of fine tweasers worked well for me with some careful scissor work.

Woah woah woah you guys are physically altering the pins in the socket in order to make 8th gen work in these?

What side effects are we getting here?

No longer will 6th and 7th gen work correct after this mod?
What about RAM speed? No XMP so 2400 is the best?
Will EVERYTHING work like normal? CPU frequency, turbo and idle.

This seems super sketchy and AWESOME.

Not on the socket, on the CPU pads, so it's done on a per CPU basis.

How does one acquire that bios? Not that I need it as I no longer have the machine but this mod was brought to my attention on the channel.

If I can wrap my head around this job then I’ll know whether or not I can recommend it.

Clearly. I haven’t and wouldn’t suggest anyone to do this either. But it was brought to my attention that this was possible so I came here for further clarification.

I bought a barebones from eluktronics and I have to say I'm disappointed. The single heatpipe on the gpu is just not handling the heat this thing putting out while gaming and it burns the **** out of my mouse hand with that right-side vent. I've tried repasting it twice but it's just making any difference. I'd love to go in and change a few settings in bios but these are the most barebones bios i have ever seen, even for Clevo. I'm also having a problem with it randomly just shutting off with no warning. And there's this very high-pitched squeal I think coming from the fans that is like nails on a chalkboard to me. I'm likely going to end up returning it if I can't fix these problems this weekend.

I would also like to note that Eluktronics has been great so far. They answer emails and questions almost immediately.

Sounds like there may be an issue if it's just shutting off.

I'm sure there is, and I'd be more willing to discover what it is if the gpu vent near my hand and the completely empty bios weren't even bigger problems. I can't use a machine that I have zero control over. I think I'm just going to return the thing and get a NB50TK1 instead.

I ended up repasting mine, first with Arctic MX-4 then with Cryonaut. MX-4 was eh, very touchy about how you applied it. A liberal application (cross pattern with four dots) worked best. With Conductonaut and Heaven bench it didn't get hotter than 71C.

With Dsanke's modded bios and DaMafiaGamer's guide to installing said bios, you can unlock most of the bios options. Yes, the stock Clevo bios is junk and there is nothing to change. The unlocked bios has all the options you want, and even if you aren't using a Coffee Lake processor it will still work (I ran a G4600 on mine for a while). It does indeed have thermal settings, including cut-off points for fans.

Also, not sure if you've noticed but the plastic panel underneath the laptop, look at the vents under the gpu. Is there a black plastic sheet glued over the vents? Remove that. I left mine on (accidentally, never noticed it) and my gpu temps would spike up to almost 90C. Removing the plastic is kind of tough, I used a razor to peel a corner. It took a lot of effort to get it off. It's a matte-black sort of adhesive plastic sheet.

If you've got the cash, i'd get that one. I have a W650KK1 but I bought mine a year ago. The real bottleneck in these is the 1050ti. Just something to consider..

Flip your laptop over and find the vent over the gpu, it will be on the side opposite of the power jack. They usually place an adhesive sheet of plastic over the vents to keep dust or grit getting in there (or to keep your lap from getting burnt?) Easiest way to see if you've got that sheet on there is to remove the bottom panel. They might have removed it on yours, but on mine it was still there. Peeling it off dropped my temps by at least 10C.

If you do flash your bios, just read the directions. Read them. And then read them again. Don't rush it once you run the program and then freak out and try to reboot in the middle. I literally sat there with my hands under my ass so I wouldn't panic and f**k it up.

Also, if you are putting a Kaby Lake processor in, you don't need to tape the processor pins. That's only for Coffee Lake processors. Sorry for all these replies.

Also, installing that modified BIOS will probably void your Eluktronics warranty. They are a great company to work with, though. But I doubt they'd take back something with a non-OEM BIOS.

Yeah about the ‘plastic’ sheet thing...its not a plastic, its a copper sheet but question is why they cover vent for???(you know you can use mesh to prevent dust right?)

Mine definitely seemed like plastic. Perhaps it was coated copper? Mine was matte black, felt like really thick mylar. Yeah, I agree about the mesh and dust though. I just yanked it off, helped with airflow immensely. The cpu is also 50% covered. They have vents, and half of one side is covered. I can appreciate the manufacturer not wanting users to get junk/debris sucked up in to the fans but part of me just wants to dremel it out to increase airflow.

Yeah inside it was copper thin plate then they coated it to black also mesh can be airflow while prevent dust.About nb50tk1 that a good opinion tho but i already plan to buy a p870dm3

    Hi
I have this laptop from eluktronics also i'm running i3 6100 with single 8gb ddr4 2400 but it runs at 2133 only so my question is can i overclock my ram to work as 2400 or higher with this i3 6100 CPU? also adding one more stick of same 8gb ddr4 2400 will improve the overall performance of the laptop?
    Thanks

Your i3 6gen don't support more than 2133mhz. Only increase performance with similar slot ddr4 to activate dual channel. If you have use 2400mhz, need to upgrade to intel 7 gen (or 8 gen with mod bios).

Yes a 2nd stick would be the first step and a CPU upgrade to get the speed up. A CPU upgrade alone would help a lot more depending on your work load.

Turns out the 6400T was faulty, tried it in another machine still kept giving blue screens, though it did go into windows while on the laptop it just kept bootlooping.

6400T is ES, your system get blue screen because HD530 driver , exactly HD530 on 6400T ES is only for test not for use.
use retail cpu for resloved this issue

Can't find QVL so ... compatible or not, or... maybe? :)
    https://www.amazon.fr/G-Skill-F4-2133C15D-16GRS-Mémoire-RAM-2133/dp/B017UC3O5I/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1548872353&sr=8-7&keywords=so-dimm+2133

I'd like to extend to 16 GB some day but the current Crucial memory installed isn't available anymore ( Part Number: CT8G4SFD8213.C16FBD1 ). In fact I need only 1 stick of this one but I think it would be nice to upgrade with a newer kit.

(note : never found a newer BIOS and SHS is not providing those)

So long as the memory is the same speed and CL latency it should slot in with the existing stick, some sub timings might loosen a bit but you wont notice the performance difference.

Yea ok not a bad notebook.Wish i had bought the one without gpu.All i seem to do anymore is mod and tinker. This notebook and for any other with nvme slot is capable of running an external gpu for about 20 bucks if you dont mind leaving it on your desktop.Forget whitelist and all that crap.If your willing to sacrafice your pcie nvme slot then it will run with a straight cable.Buy a sheilded one if you see any corruption.there about 35 bucks. And also if you have flashed a bios before and feel ok about it.Flash this ***** to run a 8th or 9th gen.I run an external 280x that runs a little better than the supplied soldered gpu I.E. wish i bought the non gpu one.Put at least ddr4 2400 in it> BOOOOOOOOOm you can beat most desktops. With same hardware.Any one wanna see proof send me a 1080ti.Otherwise check benchmarks for me. https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/15628323

I've actually wondered if an external gpu would work with this. There are two nvme slots, can you still use one while the external gpu is plugged in the other? Thanks for posting this, and your benchmarks as well. Both are very helpful.

Of course i do if you read the benchmark. You see one scoring high. that would be the lesser one> yea any notebook. If notebook builders were not such tight asses there would be an external 16x 3.0 slot.Look at the manual if you still have it.one slot is nvme x 4 3.0. 32gbs baby.Get a 32 gbs cable to do it : .) this long time ago non published but i beat people down old days gaming https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/14769647
