Can you still use the Fn + D button combo to clear CMOS on Clevo laptops? Having to remove the button battery to do this is a huge pain and all laptops should have a button combo to do this (e.g. power button hold on MSI, above combo on Clevo's I thought).

Yes it should work. The manual for my Clevo laptop even says to use the Fn + D to change overclocking settings to their defaults.

Yes FN+D works until it doesn't even get chance to post then its CMOS battery remove time.

Pulling the CMOS can still be a cleaner restart and is fairly easy to do on this machine.

I ended up returning my X170KM-G. I had to fight with the seller and actually escalate with eBay to get it resolved as they refused to respond at all. It was a used open box model and had too many defects and problems for my liking including a flaky Gen4 slot, Keyboard with sporadic LED issue and a few other issues.

I do like I was able to show a well binned cooler running 11900k could be tamed relatively easy under the hood as silicon quality does matter in laptops. I didn't get a chance to extend any further testing, cooling optimizations once I found out the gen4 port was suspect and keyboard was having stuck partial lit LED issues. Trying to use it required just using the most basic of Windows Update drivers only.

Sometimes it would shut down for no reason under sustained load and other times under load it would just arbitrarily decide to pull 225w+ even with an undervolt applied.

I don't have time to waste that amount of money on a system that just won't run properly especially considering my X170SM-G has none of those problems (except the gen4 port as it doesn't have one).

I'll be putting my 11900k up for sale and sticking with my X170SM-G for my laptop and 12th gen for desktop for the next year or so.

Cinebench R20 or R23 and Unigine Heaven. Load it up for 10 to 15 minutes just to see how the temps are and identify how it responds to a stressful (not abusive or unrealistic) workload. Make sure it's not having functionality problems in the OOBE. If anything seems wrong, reach out to the seller for assistance within 24 hours if you can.

That sounds like a contact problem bud. Make sure you haven't folded a thermal pad and have screwed the heatsink down right.

Make sure you get the whole GPU die with thermal paste a good thin layer covering all corners. make sure the thermal pads are where the are suppose to be

Don't fry your HW. Remember only the GPU cores have thermal sensors. The power delivery may run at the border. Stop use it and fix the problem before its too late. And you'll most likely will find the culprit when you disamble the cooling.

Right the pads looks like they have been replaced already in some places. However the GPU core is showing contact. The spring on the screws that connect the heatsink what they look like.

Did you put the screws back in in the right order? Delidded CPU? Other IHS? „Washer-Mod“?

the blue pads look like they don‘t have proper contact

by the way, thats a lot of lm on your cpu

Yep just looked closer and it does seem the GPU although has contact thermal paste wise its not pressured correctly so i would defo re-check the screws to make sure they was placed in the right area.

Getting the optimum fit is the most important part, getting the heatsink 0.5mm closer is going to obliterate any gains in terms of materials unless you are buying complete junk.

Hey Guys hope you all had a good New Years. I just sold my Main rig so now my Main rig is this fickle machine that i have a love hate relationship with. Would upgrade grading to 11900k be a viable upgrade ? Would the 10900k be better ? Is PCI gen 4 going to matter to me in games ?

I think the performance boost in gaming and other applications would be negligible going from 10700k to a better CPU. Especially when you consider thermal throttling at higher CPU speeds. I'm running the 11900k and sure it's nice to have but it doesn't make as much a difference as, say, going from RTX 3060-3070 to a 3080.

As far as PCIE Gen 4 and NVMe drives are concerned, currently the boost in load times is also negligible if you're upgrading from say, a Samsung 970 to a 980. I have the 980 and also have a 970 and have apps and games in both. Load times virtually the same at the moment. But please google and look in to NVIDIAs RTX IO and Microsoft's DirectStorage. These technological upgrades are supposedly going to make a huge difference in the future so if you did want to future proof your KM-G, having a CPU and SSD that can support and run PCIE Gen 4 is definitely something to take into consideration.

I got my laptop configured with my current specs for that reason; future proofing and also cuz I had the money laying around to spend on it.

PS: What do you mean by "fickle" btw? I am in the rare position of having a KM-G that has virtually no issues whatsoever (I think I'm in the minority though haha) so if you need help or advice on improving the system performance I could lend a hand.

Im still having those FPS drops where the usage goes really low in cyberpunk and dirt 5. Plus i did see artifacts. After sending it to HID they claim to have repalced the GPU so i have to beleive they did that and im not sure where to go from here. The only other thing im thinking of now is the NVME boot drive that it came with could be causing the issue and would make sense why things are not working right. I have such a love hate relationsip with this thing. Any ideas
