Shoooooo. That’s literally half of what I paid for my whole system. So 2080S I stay.![]()
I guess if I could make $10K that easily in this market I’d probably do it. That would go nicely towards some home improvement plans I have.

The lm is not making contact with the heatsink. Lm won't do anything for gpu really but cpu wise it worked wonders for me. I would do phobya nano grease extreme on gpu as it's safer. Lm on die for cpu under ihs and nano greased extreme again for cpu ihs on top to make contact with heatsink easier.Last edited: May 29, 2021DreDre likes this.

10900k with 3080 is the best combo I think now if you want top notch but a 3070 is niche I don't see a 3080 being worth it for price to performance ratio. 3070 oc is pretty close. Unless they 200w that 3080
-
Yea he said it is first adopters...so they didn't care about price. Normally 3080 is priced at 1500 he said. He also said barebones is cheaper then the actual gpu. You could probably get a barebone KM system for 1700 with a 3060 in it.Last edited: May 29, 2021

That. . .is genius. Buy a barbones, strip the gpu, and sell the barebones to lower the 3080 cost. Might have to look into that.joluke, Clamibot and JCordero31 like this.

that is the conclusion I had to come up with, I suppose I can try again with some mods and see what happens. What are your temps btw? I've done some attemps cleaning out and using the copper IHS tooLast edited: May 29, 2021JCordero31 likes this.

I bought my x170sm barebone with a 2080s in it costed me 2k the gpu was 1500 by itself! Lol the system was 500 bucks lol with a 144hz screen to boot lol.. this time I'm gonna use my connects to get the 3080 and a water cooled heatsink. The heatsink will be going for 400 alone as per what my boy told me and will be limited quantity to start the more he sells the more they will produce. It do out in this month but I don't think it will be released until August as it will be able to be used for 20 and 30 series. No need to buy 2 separate heatsinks and production slowed do to pandemic -
A watercooled Heatsink? Oh now I really want to see your build in action. It's a shame watercooled laptops never took off. Even if it was in limited numbers it would've been cool to see them still be around for longer than one laptop. Curse you ASUS!!!!JCordero31 and Clamibot like this.

As soon as I get in hand and run test I will post results. I am supposed to have a 3080 by June 11th but I'm not holding my breathe. I feel another delay coming as my boy has told me clevo is having issues getting them in stock for full laptops so he has having issues getting more freely. He said he got lucky with his first 5.Terreos likes this. -

Small radiators and loud fans did not help. -
Yeah but if they kept making them for each generation they may have made better versions instead of wussing out after one try.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
That's fairly common for that sort of thing for the big players.
-
I know, I know.
I'm sure they made that with no intention of ever making a newer version. Like that Acer ultrawide laptop. But when a laptop starts costing closer to a used car it's time to call it quits.DreDre likes this. -

I was sad when MSI never made more capable gs30 type machines to plug into the same box. 16x PCI-E straight to the CPU so no bottlenecks. -
Oh yeeeaaah. With how much they refined their GS line since then this probably would’ve come into it’s own by now. Guess that was a “well it’s not an overwhelming success. . .scrap it”.

As someone who just bought a used car this week, the x170sm-g I bought was double the price BEFORE I put upgrades in it...

Hi,
I ordered a Clevo with 11900k/3080. Has it fan profiles? Also a silent fan profile?
The Alienware Area 51m has a silent fan-profile, that does not reduce performance at CPU or GPU (only a temperatur-limit 74 degrees for GPU becomes active, but that can be tricked as known).
How is it with the Clevo?
Is there a custom bios for complete fan control?Last edited: Jun 4, 2021 -

I was just looking at laptops sorry for the lack of clarity
so which laptop is best
X170 km with i9-10980k with 3080
X170 km with i9-11900k with 3080
or
X170SM with i9-10900k with 2080 super and prema bios?
im going to be playing rcps3 mostlyDreDre likes this. -

10900k with 3080 with prema bios if possible would be best. You can get the 10900k in x170km. Unless someone is selling a 10900k with prema bios and 2080 at around 2000-2200 I wouldn't purchase
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It does depend on what you are doing with it partly.
-
Man you think that’s all it’s worth currently? I think that’s how much it would be worth without the cpu. Delidded 10900K would fetch a pretty penny I would think.

I had my x170sm (prema bios personal edition) up for 2400 with a 10850k delidded hitting 5.1ghz but set at 5ghz all core temps no higher then 80c cache at 4.4 3200mhz cl16 memory with 2080s oc and undervolted hitting 1980mhz 300hz screen (Mr fox heat removing mods) (repadded with 16w/mk pads) and nobody wanted to buy. I priced it down to 2200 and still nobody purchased when my boy said he would send me a 3080 I kept it.
-
Good to know. Guess these are hard to push these days. Age of the thin and light. Oh well.
-
I actually really considered buying it, and I remember you made me an offer. I really want an Alder Lake based system though, so I decided to wait.
Had you gone a bit lower and priced it at $2000 (including that really high shipping cost) I probably would've said screw it and bit. I think that really high shipping cost was very off putting for potential buyers.
I think the bigger influencer is the price rather than the thickness of the laptop. I don't personally know anyone who would spend more than $2000 on a computer, but they definitely would be fine with a thicker machine. Most people are extremely price sensitive.
Personally I also think anything over $2500 for a new top specced high end computer is ridiculous. I definitely would not pay that for a used machine.DreDre likes this. -
USPS lost a 3990 threadripper (fully insured priority) i sold someone in december found it in january and claimed they returned it. long story short after filing a claim and being denied 3 times even after i provided all information they requested and even calling the inspector generals office and filing an inspection on the employees and the office that said they delivered me the package i lost out on 3k and never got my 3990 back...... So now i only ship UPS. People want me to ship them a 3000 (originally priced) laptop with no insurance or with bare basic coverage and if it gets lost or damaged what are you gonna mad at me because you didnt wanna fork over for full coverage? basic coverage is 50 bucks if they lose the laptop and you chose basic coverage guess what......ill lose out 2000 because you would go back to ebay and say you never received and ill get 50 bucks for my trouble from ups....no thanks. If the laptop gets damaged on the way you could return it ill lose out on a sale and ill have to pay to repair (if its something i cant repair on my own) or like some scum bags do they say they received it damaged and ask for a partial refund in which case i would only offer a full refund and ill have to fork over money to have my laptop retuned in which case will piss that person off and i risk them actually damaging my laptop or changing parts out for junk they got. its a lose lose for sellers. Plus now that ebay changed its policy and paypal is no longer involved i dont deal with ebay they always side with the buyer 9 out 10. Yet ive maintained 100% feedback from over 300 sales.
As far as pricing go, this laptop was worth it at 2400 that i asked for that was with full 2400 dollar worth of shipping coverage. So it was actually priced at 2200. After all the mods i personally did. Prema bios installed, all the tuning. It was undervalued if you ask me. Like at said at the time it was selling, 3080 was 6 months away going on 7 now but doesnt matter now im glad i kept it and figured out my own issues with saving my mom at the time, that was the only reason for the sale anyways.Last edited: Jun 13, 2021 -
Glad you chimed in. I can see your point on the cost. Even if I don’t practice that currently. Seeing as a machine like this can cost $4000 or more with all the upgrades. Ideally it would last longer since it was theoretically upgradable. Though parts are proving to be difficult to get. If this was a bone stock model I can see it selling for less. But as @JCordero31 mentions once you add in the modified cooling, Prema bios, and delidded cpu that all adds up to the cost. But if someone doesn’t value those modifications then it doesn’t matter in the end I suppose. It’s almost like having a muscle car with all the mods to beef it up. Never valued for what was added or improved. Just what does Kelly blue book value it at.
I always try to get people to have insurance on expensive purchases. But few seem to understand that we as normal people don’t have the resources of a big corporation. So that comes out of our pockets. Generally only people that have sold something of equal value understand.
Like I learned it costs the seller a pretty penny if you send them the payment in your currency and they have to convert it. So I always send payment to the seller in their currency and consider that on my end as a buyer. But I have never once had anyone else consider it the other way around. Hence why I really hate selling to anyone overseas. My worst case was when I was selling my 1080 and 1080 ti. The 1080 sold fast, but the Ti sat for awhile since it was obviously a more expensive buy. Someone from China wanted to buy it. I explained in the sell thread that overseas buyers must pay for shipping. Well first off this fellow wanted to pay half of what I was asking, didn’t want to pay shipping, wanted to pay in their location currency, and did not want to pay for insurance on the shipment. So I always dread when it’s time to sell expensive things. Because I know that buyer is always gonna show up.

Wow, I'm sorry to hear you got burned like that. Now I understand why the shipping cost was so high.

Then you have people who bug specialty items who don't know what they are doing. That makes selling certain parts.... Interesting.

I never sell overseas. USA only Unless I feel i can trust them like a person on this forum. They pay more in shipping as its more expensive to ship overseasTerreos likes this.

I only do this to protect myself and the buyer. If the shipping chargers werent crazy for full coverage i would have just paid myself but they crazy. Plus i even stated in the auction if the shipping costed less that i would refund the extra they overpaid

It is if you want it fast/insured. Here it can depend on the destination. South Korea is cheap to the UK for instance. -
Yeah that’s how I feel. But without fail anytime I sell anything someone overseas wants it and I always get asked why I’m not selling world wide. I can understand some people not being familiar with how much it’s costs to ship, but they’re always shocked when I humor them and show them an estimate of how much it would cost to send it to them. Something small and less expensive? Sure. An expensive laptop or high end gpu? No chance. Sorry I live across the drink from you.
-
No worries next time i got something up ill pm you.

I would have bought it but that $200 shipping cost was the deal breaker. I wanted it bad but since Prema bios isn't officially out I was skeptical about the bios as well and wat you could have been doing with the notebook. Sounds like you have a good plan for it though going forward . Nobody is selling the rtx 3080 mxm GPUS as of yet as a single purchase. Since you have a source to get one that sounds cool.
-
200 shipping was to protect you and me from any damages that may have occurred during shipping or even theft but no buyer saw it that way. 200 was full insurance on it. I've already been robbed by usps for 3k I wasn't gonna lose out another 3k (original price I paid for laptop). If your a person who can purchase a 2k machine and risk all on a company then thats on you. Yet if that said company would of lost the machine or broke it you would blamed the seller. You would have asked for a complete refund and the seller would have lost out on the cash. Yet you would pay that 200 shipping from a company who would have sold it you. Like hid or such. Makes no sense
Prema bios is official on my laptop. It's a personal edition it was not stolen or anything. I would never steal his work.Last edited: Jun 16, 2021 -
I'm guessing that the $200 is included in the price for the machine from resellers.
You could do the same thing so potential buyers don't see the shipping as an extra separate (and in their minds unnecessary) fee. This way, the price of the laptop is just the price of the laptop without an extra shipping cost in the eyes of the buyer. If you do this, they will be pleasantly surprised if you give them money back. You're not hiding the shipping cost, you're just including it in the price of the laptop.
It's a psychology thing that puts you in a more favorable light in the buyer's mind even though the cost isn't any different. Try lumping everything together into a single package cost and see if that gets you more buyers. If people see extra fees on top of what they already have to pay, it's a real turn off to them.
Most products definitely have hidden costs that are lumped into the product's price. However, we don't see them, so we're ok with just paying the one price we see. Try this approach. -
i did do this. i set the shipping free at one point and lumped it with price.....Then i got can you do 2000 or 2100 shipped or could i chose the carrier you ship from and the most ridiculous one i got was can you overnight free. I couldnt win anyway people dont wanna pay.
hid...didnt do this ground shipping was 158 bucks for me when i went to purchase -
