That's exactly what I went through when I was buying the Area 51m R1. Bought the RAM and SSD a head of time. I went with the 9700K because I knew it ran hot and was not really gonna get any benefit out of the 9900K. That thing got delayed like 3 times on me. Heck even after I cancelled they had someone from Texas that wasn't a foreigner call me and offered me a better deal to put my order back in. Glad I didn't keep that thing with all the issues that came up in the following months.

My Tec from ZTecpc did mention they were very busy. Hence why my repair seemed to take a long time. So it's not just you. If that's where you bought it from?

The 10900K is just way overkill for my needs, but it was hard to resist to just have it. My desktop doesn't even have on of these.

Yeah I bought mine from zTecpc as well since theirs is the best version of the X170 and is also the cheapest. I couldn't afford it from anyone else since the rest of the vendors charge way too much for it. zTecpc's version actually has a reasonable price. Getting the laptop from them was a no brainer because of the cost and their cooling system mods.

I configured it with an i5 10600K, 8 GB of RAM, and an RTX 2080 Super, then bought a 32 GB kit of DDR4 3200 MHz Crucial Ballistix RAM and I got a used i9 10900K off ebay. This route was cheaper than buying the machine specced out the way I wanted directly from the shop. Even if I keep the 10600K and the original RAM, I save $385.26. Yeah, gotta save every penny possible :D. I don't NEED 32 GB of RAM or an i9 10900K per se, but they'll still benefit me in a small subset of the games I play, will benefit me in game development, and will benefit me in video editing.

Unfortunately both of the units they had left had defective motherboards :(. They're procuring a new motherboard from Clevo, so fingers crossed that the third time is the charm. I won't be settling for a different laptop, so I don't know what to do with the RAM I bought if I don't get my X170. I don't want a desktop either. I like laptops. I'd end up building myself a custom laptop if I can't do anything else since I'm not paying $1000 more for the KM model. The prices on that model are outrageously high.

Prices must’ve changed since I bought mine. I went with base m.2 and 8gb of ram. I got my 10900k delidded by them. Figured I was paying so much I might as well let them take care of it and it would be covered by my warranty.

Shame they have no plans to go with the KM model. But they definitely have their reasons. So we will have to enjoy them as they are.

You do lose a fraction of height when you delid and remove the sTIM. I had the same problem when I delidded my 9900k and 9900ks and used them in my P870TM1. Temps went from bad to worse in the P870TM after delidding yet were better on the desktop Couple that with maybe losing a bit on the heatsink lottery and the issues you present sound similar. I had a desktop to test the before and after though to dial down the absolute bottom vcore so I had a range to work with in my P870TM.

Best way to test this is to do a pairing test but also get a set of copper shims and test thermal paste patterns on the heatsink and IHS. You would be amazed at what shims will do to dial in the best IHS height and fix temps. You can then contemplate going with a taller IHS.

Yeah I paid $2115.01 for mine, and that was with tax. They were having a sale to clear their stock. I would not have bought it if it weren't on sale because I'm not going to pay ridiculous amounts of money on a single computer. This is almost at my hard limit of $2500. It goes to say I'm really glad they had a sale, because I really wanted this laptop.

So basically the best course of action is to get the pure copper IHS by Rockitcool then?

You will get a touch more height with Rocketcool's IHS, but if you want to optimize your particular pairing (IE, heatsink lottery), I would use shims to find the optimal fit and order a custom IHS from BartX, but in the here and now a pure copper IHS from Rockitcool is a quick and easy way to get a smidge more height (and surface area). They will literally fab an IHS to your exact height specifications.

I just got used to using my x170 as my daily driver. I have a desktop PC too, but even when the x170 was gone I rarely used the desktop. I would game on my switch and web browse on my iPad instead most days. There was just a bunch of minor things I used it for that I missed. Plus to this day it still has the best keyboard I’ve ever used on a laptop.

Does anyone know where to get one of those rectangle PSU plugs?
Mine got damaged but the PSU is still fine.
Can't find it on Ali unless you buy the whole PSU for $$$.

Yes and yes. There was an external mishap that completely ruined the connector. Nothing to do with the port. I just need somewhere to get that connector and not waste a perfectly good PSU.

The full refrigeration is under an exchange for me. PCS arranges it. Currently FedEx for who I wait. I ordered it before it on an own expense from Ali a complete one (factory) refrigeration and I was able to use the laptop till then while UK was the wrong refrigeration under an exchange under guarantee. It will be a reserve refrigeration of mine now X17SM-G to a laptop. :)

We are just talking the basic PSU here for a connector at worst.

We sell them for $300 for a pair, shipping and tax to the UK would be say $500 at worst.

I am not seeing 700 euros buying it directly from Eurocom? and shipping should not be 150 euros....

and that 396 euros is the power brick and the cable together.

If you purchased from a Prema Partner, check with them to see if they have a PremaBIOS in the works for your model. If you didn't buy from a Prema Partner, some people have been lucky to talk to Prema about obtaining one. Otherwise, does ThrottleStop and/or Intel XTU still give you a valid work-around for some settings?

Have anyone scene Linus video on the Alienware version of this?

Seems like the air cooling underperforms when compared to the original heatsink in this video. Wouldn't missing out on the vaper chamber cause the GPU to produce more heat on air?

If you didn't purchase from a Prema Partner, have you asked PCS if they've considered becoming a Prema Partner? Maybe then they could help.

Otherwise, about your only other hope is to reach out to Prema, and hope he can help. Anyone have information on contacting Prema?

Well my laptop has prema on it. You can't get prema but only from a partner. I will let you know how it turns out. I intend to get a 3080 my homebody was supposed to hook me up but profits took over he was make 2k per 3080 at one point so I never got one lol. I have a better chance of buying direct from clevo then getting one anywhere else for my x170sm. The heatsink is compatible with 20 and 30series as per heataink maker.

BIOS separate spec's is being made? / Prema MOD/
Model based on an agreement not good on all of them X170SM-G / KM-G to a machine? This is Heatsink industrially.

    X170SM-G
    heatsink_2_x170sm-g.jpg

    X170KM-G
    heatsink_2_x170km-g.jpg

There are altogether 2 pieces for me it SM-G to a model. /one in the machine and one put away in his box, reserve/
Reserve screw "DE" (Deutsch) XMG was a supply obtained/Schenker who the product asked for SN number...

I was thinking about 3080 of his purchases, but I wait for Super announcement. i9-10900K beside it it would be the good one. o_O :D

With out being a Prema Partner, PCS will not be able to get access to the PremaBIOS. However, perhaps you and other PCS customers can start pressuring them to BECOME a Prema Parther. If enough people ask (and you tell them you're going to shop elsewhere), perhaps they'll reconsider and possibly join up as a courtesy to both their current and future customers.
