Did you partition the drive? If I recall you need to do so before it can be used.

Mines still on schedule for tomorrow hopefully.

I had a brain fart today. Got a package for amazon and had no idea what it was. It was a larger back pack I ordered for this laptop as my last one is too small for the x170. Couldn’t believe I forgot I ordered it.

Awesome, glad you got it and everything is peachy.

If the disk has not been initialized, open Windows Disk Management Utility and it will prompt you to choose MBR or GPT. Then while you are there, format it and give it a drive letter.

Try to isolate the problem using the built-in driver verifier tool. That will help you pin point the exact dll that is causing failures. Usually this kind of failures occur as a result of a chain reaction of failure which is triggered by something hidden from plain sight.

I need certain features only available in Pro or Education version and I find stripping away stuff easier than making microslop stuff work via separate installations over barebone version. It isn't even as swift as the crappiest linux distro out there which actually work when all dependencies are satisfied. Windows has a LONG way to go before it can even remotely match that level of operational reliability (I doubt that will ever happen).

No, I did not partition it. I knew it was a dumb question. I assumed the drive would auto partition and forgot about that part. Opened Windows Disk Drive, and repartitioned it. Move some files from an external drive into it, and all set.

    Thank you for helping me.

Well it looks like mines being delayed. Might have to see if UPS will let me change to have it delivered to a UPS store so I can pick it up after work. In the past they don’t let me do this until after they’ve made a first attempt. Which is stupid. . .

Man, I hate it when that happens. I keep forgetting not every retailer has Amazon Prime Next Day Delivery. Now, let me see if I can find my 5.25" Floppy Disk.

Yeah I opted for normal shipping since it was thanksgiving week. Figured there would be delays and would be atleast a week for before I saw it. UPS has some of the most brainless support I’ve ever encountered. I called and they wanted the door tag number. And when I told them it wasn’t delivered yet they said they can’t do anything. And the website asks for the same information. So I’m hoping my regular UPS delivery guy drops off my package and will take a signed note and leave it for me. Worse case I’ll have to have it rerouted to a UPS store tomorrow when I get home from work after they try to deliver. Or if I’m lucky and they deliver late like they do when I’m off and waiting for a package I’ll be good to go.

Dare I ask what you using a floppy drive for? o_O

Ironically I have all my accessories that I ordered for it.

Either way @Meaker@Sager isnt gonna get their benchmarks for a bit. :p

My first computer was a Radio shack color computer. I used to type in programs from a monthly magazine then save them on a cassette drive. I moved up to a Commodore 64 with an external disk drive. Man I had it going on then!

    VIC-20 for me, but same.

One of my favourite games on the C64 was Valhalla, but it took an ENTIRE 60 min tape. Literal hour to load, and if you died, you had to reload it... so I didnt play it often. :D

You and me both. My first PC back when I was in 1st grade had some 2004 model Pentium CPU in it. Looking back, I don't know how in the world I was ever able to make do with that level of processing power. The 250 GB HDD it had in it pales in comparison to my storage needs today.

With rumors the 11th i9 is gonna cap out at 8 cores I wouldn’t even bother.
    https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.en...cket-lake-desktop-cpus-8-cores-140022054.html

Think the 3080 laptops will start being announced here in early 2021. So long as they make an mxm card we should be able to swap it in. Question is how will the performance be since we will be drastically running it at a lower voltage? Fingers crossed it’s a step forward.

Yeah I don’t know what Intel is planning. Maybe they’ll release a high GHz 8 core. Not gonna hold my breath on that as I’m sure Ryzen is gonna start making some bigger waves next year.

The low end gpus on those thin and lights is definitely gonna be underwhelming. Honestly they shouldn’t even offer anything past the 3060. We’re back to the good ol days where laptop gpus are not in the same league as their desktop counter parts. But this time we don’t even have sli to make up the difference.

With 8 cores Rocket I think Intel will try go for single thread/gaming crown. The multi thread crown is already lost long time ago due their chips is still on 14nm++++++. Release a possible +10 cores Rocket chips within the same power budget will only push the all core boost downwards and hurt gaming performance.

Latest news for 3000 series Mobile graphics https://www.tomshardware.com/news/nvidia-geforce-rtx-3000-series-ampere-mobile-gpu-laptops

Edit. See also... Intel and Nvidia has most likely robbed us for better gaming experience the last years. Isn't it disgusting? They knew it but preferred to hide it to increase profit from sales of new and shiny before needed.

"Then again, why are they introducing AMD SAM right now when the feature has been available for more than 4 years now? Makes us wonder what other hidden features CPU makers are keeping from us".

GETTING CLOSER!!!! @Mr. Fox this is not overclocked lol (im still thermal throttling according to clevo lol) Processor did hit almost 230w (according to quickcpu) no undervolt but i changed the power setting in the bios and it stuck! PL1 200 PL2 250 even though it thermal throttled it stood at 4.8ghz max (10900k Reject lol) boost the entire time it did not down clock.

You’re probably right. Just sad to see them more or less say they can’t compete and are changing the rules to make sure they “STAY ON TOP”

Yeeeaaah mobile 3000 cards aren’t impressing me much. Especially the price tags. Will have to see how this all plays out. I’ll probably be sticking with the 2080S for a long while.

Speaking of I have no idea how some people got over 30K on the gpu score in firestrike. I couldn’t even hit 28K. Gonna have to figure that one out when I get off work. o_O

Some more improvements made as a result of application of my new CCC mod. It allowed me to undervolt the CPU quite a lot (at -125mV stable now) as compared to before (-70mV) and I was able to ramp up the performance at stock clocks a bit further. Plus, I was able to install a clean fresh instance of latest intel XTU after the CCC mod (Part 1) and it's working quite flawlessly.

Here is my idle CPU temp now:

Here is my new Cinebench R20 score (stock clocks) compared to previous 6066:

What temps are your 10900k at? I’m guessing you’re throttling. Mine has some after market cooling mods done by zTecpc. Also my CPU is delidded. So it has a lot of extras working to keep it cool.

Looking at the frequency line from your score, you can see how it tanks during 'physics' and 'combined' test. So it's not holding the clock, either due to thermals or power limits.

Always tempting to keep pushing when you are close to a nice round number ;)
