I created a new lounge. The model differences seem significant enough to merit it.

Yeah it's more than a light refresh.

Don’t say that! You’re making me regret getting the now older model.

It’s been well over five months since I ordered mine and I was ready for something then. So I’m not really upset. I knew how likely 3000 series laptops were going to be. Though I was banking on them being so cut back with wasn’t gonna sting so much.

Meh I’m happy with the 2080S. Plays all the games I want locked at 144hz. So it would be hard to even notice anything more powerful. Overclocking and benchmarks are another story. But that only gives you so much enjoyment.

It has the MXM 4.0 features when PCIe Gen4 is enabled, just like the 4th M.2 slot.
It’s the PCIe Gen4 feature from 11th Gen CPU. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It's a crushing together of MXM and PCI-E 4.0 rather than some official spec.
-
Is the MXM 4.0 spec sheet out? Haven't seen it anywhere as of yet, just curios as to what's been changed from 3.1
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It runs PCI-E 4.0 speeds
-
Seems like "nice to have" but not really necessary feature. (at least for mxm alone, m.2 might be nice) Unless the 30x0 MXM is now somehow bottlenecked by gen3 PCIe x16 bandwith?
-
No problem run Ampere on older Intel platform as Z490. Or the older Z390. You don't need AMD platform to push for the best graphics scores.

@Prema. May I please use your BIOS for Sager P750ZM. Trying to upgrade to 970 Samsung M2 Slot and It's not being recognized. My email address is [email protected].

Tread got hijacked. Lol.

Suggestion... You may want to ask @Prema to send you a direct message in your post. Then you could supply your email address PRIVATELY.
While most of us here probably do not have ill intentions, you may be opening yourself up to some extra spam and fishing attacks by posting your email address.

eh, after throwing money away on the x170sm-g, the KM-g is not worth it for me knowing that after the z590 we are going PCI-e 5.x so any PCI-e 4.x system will have a short life span relatively speaking. Might just stick with Alienware or a Dell Precision in the future depending on how bad they BGA them.
And 8k displays cannot be that far off, my cell phone is already able to record 8k video and the phone can process it with a lot less power than this laptop or a 3080 has.Last edited: Mar 25, 2021 -
But you knew the 3080 was comming soon since you orderd pretty late no?

If you have a 2080S and 10900k it's still at the top of laptop gpu and cpu power until Ampere refresh and Alder Lake.1610ftw likes this. -
Quick question as I am not quite ready to install CCC - is there an easy way to kill off the rather tacky bright blue keyboard lights on this one without it?
And no, I am not talking about some mechanical modifications
-
Definitely this. Though my opinion maybe biased.
Like I was mentioning before you can really crank video game settings on this configuration and get a steady 144 FPS on a lot of titles. And a lot of games I can’t see the difference between high and ultra. So this will last a good while. But if your in the market for one of these I don’t see any reason to get the 2080S unless you’re getting a heavy discount.
BrightSmith likes this. -
3080 mobile and 10900k will beat it and 3070 mobile and 10900k will probably be just as fast with a system that runs less hot if not a bit faster, too.
That being said I see no reason to get something new if one already owns the SM-G but I would rather get the KM-G with the 3070 mobile than the SM-G with the 2080S even if they were the same price.electrosoft and BrightSmith like this. -
I thought you could "receive" messages, but just couldn't initiate a "send" until you hit your message limit. If not, seems like that is something the Bulletin Board rules should allow.

Hi, just want to confirm everything ran fine over time with the 3000 CL16 from Corsair? No freezes etc. Since I plan on sticking them in the KMG version. I would've dm'ed you but not enough posts

just need to get my hands on the clevo 3080 vbios but the ge76 3080 vbios suffices for now...

The speeds are not too extreme, should be fine. -
Hows the temps? Won't the other components fry over time?

CPU and GPU reach high 70s to low 80s at around 45db which is around 70-75% fan speed. I’ve just applied liquid metal to the GPU side too so that might be even lower now, if I had it at 100% flat out I reckon the cpu and gpu would reach mid 70s in combined loads. These fans can push a lot of air. Surprisingly well built and well performing laptop for how cheap I got it lol. The laptop was made for 150w no doubt, the power brick handles the extra load with ease, so does the laptop. I’ve disabled the cancerous dynamic boost via device manager and both cpu and gpu boost really well in games.
All VRM’s have a dedicated heat pipe going over them, not gonna have an Alienware m15/17 burnout incident with these lol. It seems that ASUS actually spent some money on good quality VRMs. Now who would have thought?
-
AW M15/M17 R4 also uses 165W vBIOS
Edit: Also BGA = better match
Edit 2: vBIOS is hosted on the R4 support page.
Just be careful with cross-flashing in general (You play, you pay):

Thank you for the insight, I’ll be looking for Alienware m17 3080 vbioses too now
I had a lengthy discussion with @Khenglish, he said from the looks of things that the strix rog 15 has quiet a robust vrm layout which can easily handle 200w (better than the ge76 vrm layout in fact), I wish I knew as much as him lol, but that has definitely reassured me. -
A little PSA for anyone watching this thread, someone has a Clevo X170SM-G with the Prema Bios listed on ebay for $2000 USD plus $200 USD for shipping: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Clevo-X170...926069?hash=item4dbfc64db5:g:YrEAAOSwJeRgP-lH
I was really contemplating getting it, but ultimately decided to stick to my original timeline of buying a new DTR in December because of Alder Lake CPUs. Therefore, I wanted to share my find with you guys if any of you were wanting to get a Clevo X170SM-G at a significant discount.JCordero31, DreDre, Papusan and 2 others like this. -
Weird, mentions 300hz display without gsync, even tho it's default with gsync. Who knows what he did that with this machine.joluke likes this.

Plus gaming should be less intense than running a power virus load for an extended period of time.
DaMafiaGamer, Spartan@HIDevolution and Donald@Paladin44 like this. -
adler lake is generally doomed to become the lot of only fans, why will 8 cores + 8 castrates be needed, and constant glitches of the operating system that will try to run games on castrates: D when there are already full 16 AMD cores, while all the bugs in the software are fixed, the alder will become outdated ... Intel is again moving in the wrong direction and Ryzen gets another 1-2 years on the home segment of new high-performance processors along the way.

Generally a bad idea to do lot of power virus testing on any laptop anyway.Papusan likes this. -
I wonder that they messed up on the X170 that is on Ebay with the Prema BIOS...lol They probably won't tell anyone what they did.

This machine will stay longer relevant since premas bios doesn't transfer to the new kmg.
