That graph there is slightly misleading. Although the 3DMark scores are claimed to be indications of 3D gaming performance, this isn't necessarily the case. 3DMark is a theoretical benchmark, it tests the CPU and GPU and combines them (treating their influence 1:1) to create a score. However, in games, it is the GPU that is the bottleneck. No matter if your CPU is a 5GHz Quad Core, if your GPU is still a GTX 560m or something like that, it wouldn't matter in real world gaming performance. For those of you who know basic chem, let's just say that the GPU is the limiting reagent of the equation.

So, I just spoke with tech support at Sager about this and I didn't get a direct answer.
Is this model compatible with the recently released i7 980? -

Has anyone here updated the bios the the version below?

People, who benching our Clewo x7200 in LinX ( with problem size=14000 and Run=20)
what is temp thus was our 980 or 990 processor or other proc? -
So have you tried it ? I have it DL'd but havent applied it, also what changed ?
-
Can you give us a changelog for this new bios. -
As far as I know only the Raid Rom has been updated. Have it applied, no problems
-
Do you know what the changes are in the raid rom ?
-
Updated from the 9 series to 10.5.0.1034. Slight improvement on my Raid benchmarks, very slight
I'd love to have more details on changelog too -
Yea it more than a little annoys me there is never a changelog from Sager....
-
Owners 980x EE and 990x EE, who can using benchmark LinX ( with problem size=14000 and Run=20)
what is temp have ur 990(980) processor and(or) 990(980) overclocked ? -
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
Yes I will do what I can to get a complete run down of this version on Monday. Somehow this slipped my mind on Friday...
_ -
Larry do you know if this model is compatible with the new i7 980(non-x)?
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
Yes according to the specs it does. I believe the bios does support this one too in this model. I can get more clarification Monday on this.
Newegg.com - Intel Core i7-980 Gulftown 3.33GHz 6 x 256KB L2 Cache 12MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Six-Core Desktop Processor BX80613I7980

Great, thanks for the info! I'm looking to upgrade next year and since this seemed to be the step up from the 970 I figured I'd give it a go. Thanks again.
-
Yes all x7200's have that vent blocked
-
Support.4@XOTIC PC Company Representative
All of them have that vent blocked as it actually runs cooler and more efficiently that way. When it is unblocked, it actually runs warmer.
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
The latest on the new bios posted on Sager's website is that it is the same as the last version. What changed is the EC was update in that the speed of the fans during certain temps have been adjusted to new levels.
This is all that we know on this. There is no changelog to post.
_ -
So why when it is unlocked it will warm up more if you below it to file a stream of cold air?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
It will cool the CPU more but other components like VRMs, ram, and other things will NOT get airflow over them and run hotter.
It may be possible that Clevo knows more about this than you/me...... -
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
DGDXGDG i am really interested in how this is going, great work
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Hope it boots.....lol
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
It has been confirmed, Sager reports if you have the latest bios, the new non-extreme 980 CPU does work with this model.
_ -
So cpu microcode, ecu and raid rom upgrades, the bios is working nicely
-
i realized open the ihs before resoldering is no good, the gpu core cracked ........so no luck
this time im gonna open it after done -
and u benching linpack from intel ur alienware???what is temp have ur 2920xm after end Linx??u may make a screen with end Linx and RealTempGT?
-
im too +1.
changes only intel raid rom -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I have not been benching linpack, I usually use wprime as a stress test for CPU. If I have 4 sticks of ram I hit 100c and shut down. With 2 sticks I am topping out at 93c. I am drawing about 105W with CPU and running at 4.5 GHz on all cores under load
The difference though is that this is a mobile part made for higher temps, the Gulftown CPUs cannot take the heat as well. (not to say I am happy about these temps....but have not picked up any DICE yet
)
-
what is it "dice"?? using four planks of RAM you get the 100C at the processor, and you have a laptop off?
You feel normal, if I load in Linx obtained Throttling and the temperature reaches 100C? You can continue to use so on a laptop and do not pay attention to anything? Interestingly, this is at all?
I can be here, where highlighted in red, make a hole?
put the cooler Pad on the bottom, what mean? -
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
that sucks man I hope you have better luck next time, do you even going to try again?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
DICE=Dry Ice=Solid CO2
I apologize but I had a hard time understanding your comment
(I know that English is most likely not your primary language as you are from Russia)

@wwoods - Still have the XTs floating around?
http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...brid-hdd-w-built-4gb-ssd-176.html#post7913803
Also, someone posted the drives play nice with Intel RST now. Don't know if this would affect any RAID-5 config.
Just an FYI. -
Yup, still have two brand new still in their sealed anti-static bags. As for the post that thety play nice...thats nice to hear, I will let someone else try out the raid5....not even goin there. BTW Rumor mill says a XT 750GB w/8G SSD NAND is in the works....

i try using Cooler Master SF-19 its very sux
but my old coolerpad TITAN TTC-G4TZ is best!!!
What is coolerpad recommend to take high-quality cooling Clevo X7200 -
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
Wow. Maybe you got a bad one? (Cooler Master SF-19). We use it in the office and like it with this model.
_ -
i start intel linpak stress-test and CPU throttling get a 7-9 step of 20
however, my Titan passes all the test steps and does not have this throttling.
Cooler Master has itself a wretched construction, poor air flow.
Lets try intel linpak ( LinX ) with problem size=14000 Run=20 and u will see a cpu trottling. i test 990X EE. -
I was looking at one those, but I herd the fan volume is like a jet engine....is it really that bad ?
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
I must admit that if you turn the fans up all the way it is loud. I use it with the fans 1/2 to around 2/3rds level. 1/2 most the time, this keeps the bottom nice and cool even when benching.
A side note, the blue lighting matches my Razer keyboad.

I just got a np7280 with an i7 960 and dual 560m's. Should I be using 2 PSU's for this set-up? Also I've been playing BFBC2 on advanced settings, and the game keeps crashing after awhile. The CPU temps are at 80c and the GPU's are at 70c+. Is this an issue with the game running SLI, or a temp issue crashing the game?
The lowest my CPU idles at is 58c... I'm guessing this is common? Kinda unfortunate I say. I just bought a CRYO pad, hopefully that helps a little.
Also, I keep leaving the computer on when I go to sleep, and when I come back in the morning it has experienced the BSOD. A bug check indicates that a driver is in an inconsistent or invalid power state. Has happened 4 times, and only seems to happen after the computer goes to sleep mode. Anyone else experienced this problem with their brand new np7280? Any quick fix? I already went through and updated as many drivers as I could, dont know if it will work though.
I also keep having issues where it will loose connection to my Razer Nostromo and wont load the profiles on it. And 3 times it has shut off my external monitor for no reason, and turned back on the laptop monitor..... I'm starting to feel like Ive bought a lemon.
EDIT: I solved the cooling issues by better ventilating the cabinet the laptop sits in. The previous fans I had installed were ok for my last laptop, but couldnt keep up with the heat output on this one. Now it idles at 46c and during benchmark, maxes out at around 78c.
The BSOD and all other problems were caused by my external USB port. When I was setting up everything on this machine, I forgot to plug the usb port into the wall, so It was struggling to power all my devices off of the laptops usb power. Ive had no crashes since I plugged it into the wall. Amazing that one thing can cause so many problems. -
i use to have crashing issues with bfbc2 and i contacted ea did every thing they wanted still crashed so i went to those bfbc2 sites and had a look in the forums and then f about in the settings ini now its working here is some links

how you can bench, if the stand is on the table and it is from under the table can not apply the normal flow of air!! it just does not give it! behold, if a little stand, lift or put under it what the subject matter, thereby creating space, from under which you can take a stream of air, then it starts to "blow."
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
I get EXCELLENT air flow. The cooler is NOT flush on the desk. It is by it self propped up 2/3 inch or more over the desk level. It flows nicely...

plz make a photo ur desk

I will try to take a pic soon. Thanks
