I can't see timing listings for both, but as far as I can tell they're identical in terms of specs. (Other than one kit being 1 x 8GB and one 2 x 8GB).

Yes that's right, they are identical. Even the timings are the same, but the production of memory chips has been in different countries ....

I've been running 285.62 since its release. No problems to report. However, I don't do anything that would really challenge the GTX460M in this laptop.

I'm confused, when the 990x first came out, when I checked the benchmarks, it showed the 980x was a little better. But now the benchmarks show the 990x to be better. What's the deal?

I have been using 285.62 for a while with no issues. 480M SLI and 980x.

BF3 runs on High at 1920x1080 with no problems.

I see its cheaper than the 980x though... I think if I upgrade im just going to go with the 980 rather than the 980x. Since I wont be overclocking anyways.

Anyone have any problems after running regular windows updates? I ran them a few months ago and then started getting random complete system shutdowns (Event ID 41: Kernel-Power). I had to go back through and manually remove the windows updates to fix the shutdowns. I am running Win 7 x64. If others have done recent windows updates and it's stable I guess I will try for it again.

Thanks.

Not all CMOS batteries can be removed. Why are you trying to remove it on such a new computer anyways?

Since Xmas is around the corner I decided to update my laptop (specs in sig).

What do you think i should upgrade? RAM/GFX/CPU?

I use the laptop for 95% gaming 5% others. I might occasionally install a virtual machine to test some new software or play around with some AIO cds that I make for work.

Thanks.

I'd upgrade at least the ram. Maybe the processor if you really need it. No sense in upgrading the 485s though, they are still beastly.

Anyone having problems with this forum? I'm clicking the "538" page, and it redirects to page 536.

If you go to "<< First" and use ""Last >>", the same thing. It jumps to page 536, not 538.

if u not overclocking this CPU u may upgrade processor to 990x...
Who is fond of overclocking, you know that a stable result for our system is very difficult to obtain.

why abandoned? it will be released after Sandy i7 and X78.
Personally, I think that the four cores and a power of 130 TDP processor for our system impractical and uneconomical.

I dont see a need to OC. It's a laptop, so the heat can be excessive enough as it is. At least on the CPU.

You might want to also consider the m18x. It uses the latest Sandy Bridge cpu which uses less power but in some ways exceeds not Sandy Bridge cpu's.

I'm pretty sure the Alienware lines all use Mobile processors. When talking about this line, most will be looking for Desktop i7/Xeon (x7200) and Desktop SNB/IVB (P270WM) CPUs.

Can you imagine running all these virtual machines / compiling multiple apps/platforms on an 8 core processor? <drool, drool>

Haha, the one problem I find with Alienware is that..they're way too flashy. I guess it appeals to some consumers..but if you want to use it for professional work/presentations... Having so many LEDs are..uh too much.

Its a love/hate relationship I guess. Plus Alienware is a pretty big name, It will generate a lot of attention. x]

Be careful when using a liquid metal! is my radiator, this is the place of contact between the CPU, which is used for two months!
i using my 990x EE.very good copy. Using a desktop system which could reach the frequency 5000 MHz! I sold him a famous overclocker from Ukraine.and i see this =)) :

Did you use Coolabratory Liquid Metal Pro? If so, then it is probably safe to assume the heat spreader had some aluminum mixed in as an alloy - and was not just pure copper or silver.

From Coolabratory's user manual - "Warning: Please note that you can’t use the Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra with a contact area of aluminum, as it corrodes aluminum."

Yes I used the liquid metal, but on the radiator all the rules, just a cover, which was formed by me, "not impressed". Clevo heatsink did not alloy and pure copper.

Was there corrosion on the spreader or not? If not, then it was pure copper.

From the pics, it looks like there are now pock marks on the spreader.
