But he didn't play Mafia, which tripped Speedy Gonzalez' psu. He merely used the game's inboard benchmark.
Still cause for concern untill this is looked into and fixed.

Well, I've had my NP7280 for just over a week and wanted to give my impressions.
My first 4 days were somewhat waisted trying to get a pair of Crucial C300 256GB drives to work. They would not function correctly with the X7200. I replaced them last Friday with a pair of X25-M 160GB Intel. They are running perfect since then.
I'm running Win 7 64-bit, 980X, 12GB RAM, 2x 160GB SSDs, 750GB normal HD, single 480M.
I'm a software developer by trade and this is my main development machine. I work in VS2010 and have some large projects that take over a minute to compile on normal machines. On this machine it's maybe 5-10 seconds.
So, far mine has not tripped the PSU. I have ran the Intel tuning tool to stress the machine for 30 minutes at 100% load and it never tripped the PSU. I have seen it fail to boot when plugged into my USB external expander, but I think that is a driver issue. If I plug that in after booting it runs fine.
I have ordered an extra PSU to leave at work. I hope if there is an issue Sager addresses for ALL users and not just ones with SLI.
This unit is replacing my last rig which was an NP9262. That laptop is still running 100%. Just needed more RAM. It was already pretty fast, but this NP7280 is just stupid fast. I have found it helps make get more done. Being that I'm paid by the hour and foot the bill for this rig, I sometimes wonder if that's a good decision..
With VS2010 bringing alot more tools to the party for doing parallel tasks, this 980X is the perfect testbed for designing. I have seen a 6-7 fold increase in some tasks when bringing all cores into play. But some other tasks will not see much of a gain. If it's not a very tight loop doing some high end math, I have not seen much of a gain.
I don't regret buying this laptop. I have faith in Sager to address this issue. -
You have not tripped the security circuits of the psu because you have only 1 GTX 480M, and well within the nominal 300W delivery of the psu.
And it would be Clevo that will have to fix things, not Sager. Sager is just a reseller. -
However i nearly tripped over the PSU coz its sooo big! Lol -
It may take a couple specific titles to get the PSU to trip... Either way you should not have a PSU that is running beyond the maximum load all the time and on the verge of shutting down at any given moment ...
Its good though that Clevo and Sager are fully aware of this problem and its only a matter of time now before they find a solution..
Good news for them is they dont have hundreds of thousands of machines out there yet so even if they have to recall the PSUs and replace them its still early in the game so the cost/loss to them will be minimal ..
Glad you are enjoying that machine Sgh77 and for what you paid you certainly deserve to have a 100% stable machine.
-
after reading the review, the psu able to go up to 410w, which is cool, so i guess full upgrade of 980xm and 2 sli 480m still have some spare room for the psu.
this machine should not be tripping the psu shut as long use normally and not doing something like fumark -

I guess they think they are fooling us or something..... -
i really hope nvidia could engineer better performance in term of the power consumption usage. O well lets see what they could show in the next season

I do not blame nvidia for this problem however...the shortcoming of the psu is purely the fault of Clevo -
Excuse my ignorance, but is furmark really a good tool to test every gpu, including the newest architectures? Here is what I mean: Some may remember there was a bug with SC2 (menus) causing gpus to overheat. It was a piece of the SC2 code that was poorly written. This is just to illustrate that poor or, say, potentially unsuitable code can cause issues even if the hardware itself is flawless in general. I am not saying this is the case with the furmark tool, but it is still something to take into account. What brings me to such thoughts, is that furmark stress is considered rather unrealistic by most users, even though there are quite some games that too put very heavy load on the gpu (which is then the realistic case). I am well aware that furmarks get updated every once in a while and that many different systems do not have problems with it, but this does not exclude the case with the newest mobile platforms from nVidia (or ATI) or does it?

ok
how can you afford these laptops
what do you guys do for work
and can you give a young guy advice in life
edit.
if a laptop gpu can play crysis maxed, why bother getting a better setup -
I'm a high school student that's doing a part time job for the x7200. So yeah, anyone can have enough money to buy this thing.
And there are more demanding games than crysis... and when people talk about maxed graphics, most of the time they are not including AA/AS. -
And how can you call yourself an enthusiast if you dont always strive for the best, and make it better? -

A lot of people have this laptop (or a comparable one) because they made it a priority to them. Most people have the money they just prioritize it towards other things.
A lot of people with highend laptops that I know of are deployed military who use their deployment bonus to get a good laptop to take overseas with them. -

Has anybody run Unigine Heaven on it yet? Can't wait to see results...

I would guess there are less than 50 people on this forum that are considering getting an X7200. There might be 1000 people that are not on the forum that are considering getting an X7200. Since there are almost 10,000,000,000 people on our planet, that means that you are one of the 99.999999% of people who can't afford or don't want to afford an X7200. In this way you are exactly like almost everyone else. So don't feel left out if you can't afford a X7200. Instead, you should feel lucky if you have enough food and if you have access to electricity, you are better off than more than half the people on the planet.
How do people getting X7200's afford them? All the usual ways. The studied hard in school and got good jobs or work real hard or buy a x7200 even though they really should be saving for a car or moving away from their parents house. In my case, I got a BS degree and then worked hard for twenty years. I saved a lot and invested aggressively in the stock market. Now I'm retired and can afford things like this. I would get a good desktop but travel back and forth to a mountain cabin and just want to have one computer that is good at games and photoshop.
Sorry about the long winded answer but that is what old retired guys do.

I totally agree Dug, however, I think you would be surprised how many of these will sell. Far more than your estimated 1050
EASILY more than 50 of them on this forum alone, probably a couple hundred. Not everyone is active as alot of the members here are. You would have your mind blown by how many M17x's Dell has sold (granted they publicize a little more) -
Thanks, CalBear!
I thought humanities degrees were always Bachelor of Arts degrees?
Mine was a real B of Science degree from UCD but is in Food Service Mgt so not all that scientific. -
Scook9, my wild guess forecast of x7200 sales was based on people arranging to buy and x7200 real soon but I should have said that.
My wild guess forecast of x7200 sales worldwide for the coming twelve months is 3k-8k. I know that is a wide range but the figures aren't in yet for Yemen or Kenya. :-0 -
Then again, I was surprised to find myself in a Best Buy too. -
hey all got mine yesterday, runs great, she is a beauty and a beast all at the same time. Question, the sound seems awful quiet, and the only speakers working are the ones directly under the screen. ( I assume the perforated areas next to the power button are speakers). I thought i read something about some one else with sound issues but i can't seem to find the post. If any one knows the fix to this please enlighten me.
thanks for your time. -

Is there a notebook yet to get WEI 7.9? I bet this one can...
-

More importantly, who cares? That is probably the worst benchmark out right now....
-
will this thing run wprime1.55 12 threads without tripping the power supply?
want to see how high it will over clock without messing with the gpus. -
-
its 7.8 stock, OC im sure someone could break the 7.9 -
Just wanted to answer the guy who said who can afford the x7200. I have a much better answer. 90 percent of the people that buy it can't afford it so don't feel bad.
The chinese banks own most of the x7200 sold, they are whats holding up our banks that are lending people money to buy things they cant afford. -

For reference on WEI, my DESKTOP (in sig) gets like a 7.6 lol
And it is sooooo weak.... -
