EDIT: Clevo has not approved the 470M on the X7200 as of now, and there is no firm schedule. -
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
The 470M is not at this time available for the this model.
Yes the 460M single and SLI is available now for the x7200-NP7280. -
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
Now an option for a simultaneous 1 GTX 480M 1GB and 1 GTX 460M 1.5GB used for Dedicated Physx. (See Attached Benchmarks)

It's nice to see more options, but I am still planning on SLi 480Ms
Actually, I think it is really frickin cool that you can put a 460 in for physx and a 480 for main graphics in a lappy. That just just plain rocks. It almost makes me want to get one configured like that for its uniqueness.. -
You do realize those performance improvements still can't justify the price for a 460M...
-
-
Wow, SLI 460Ms are an amazing value. There's no longer any logic in taking the 480Ms.
-
-
-
with cpus such as these... why not dedicate physx to the cpu and leave the gpus to do their own thing? since the gpus are the weakpoint in this laptop why make them work harder. im speaking for sli of the same card of course, if you buy a single 460 for physx then so be it...
-
-
It is my understanding that when you have two gpu's in SLI, you don't get the effect of having double the GPU memory. Therefore, are there applications where having one 480 with 2 GB of memory would be better than two 460's with 1 GB of memory?
-
If you are doing professional rendering then yes it matters. For gaming even 1G is enough.
-
Well I got my x7200 a few days ago, put win7 on it and was loving it, been playing some Medal of Honor and Minecraft and it was running great then... Just tried to boot it up today and now it wont post. It constantly restarts after about 12 seconds. Screen never turns on and the power lights turn on along with the fans during that period then off after 12 seconds and turns back on about 2 seconds later. Idk what to do now. Tried unplugging the psu and battery and plugging it back in. Can't return it now, we dont have outgoing shipping at the moment on my base. Anybody else have this happen to them?
-
-
Before you pull ram , while you're in that compartment, take out the cmos battery next to the ram for 10 minutes or so.
-
Maybe a 1G video card is enough for me. I do not render video but I do a lot of Photoshopping (CS5 and LR) of 17 MB photo's. Do you think I would benefit from a 2G memory card(s) or should 1G be enough? -
Yeah ram idea didnt work, tried one at a time, each slot and combos of two. gonna do the cmos battery now
-
-
also, whats this slot thats just above the wifi card and to the left of the cmos battery? -
prob a mini pci slot?
you might have to do an RMA my friend..if you have tried all of the above.. i mean.. all you can do is process of elim.. and make sure every fan is plugged in and seated.. battery is unplugged.. even hard drives...
worst case you could have had a screw lose and it shorted? i have seen this. -
for something like Intel turbo memory?
-
i dunno. maybe get a hold of service manual.
-
dang dude... the battery idea worked, thanks man.
-
have it checked out still.. over phone if possible voip from where you are? if you can.. could be battery or terminals.. check to see if it's leaking any fluid..
i have seen many bad batteries too in my day. -
Prey tell, did your starting problems happen after you tried to OC via xtu by any chance? -
i still think it's the xtu...it's not ready for prime time like they hoped.
how in the hell does a laptop need 300 watts and 190 amps to the cputhat is just crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that xtu is broken if you ask me....my classified/intel board or gigabyte board dont use that much to the cpu..even my phase change is tuned to remove like 230 watts of heat...and your pushing close to 300 in a cpu that can run off a 150 watts....pretty much all the way up to 4 ghz. on stock voltage (3.8 to be safe)
clevo needs to address that.
but to be fair...anyone running a single card with 980x?
has a kill o watt meter.
and will need to remove that battery.
then we can see just how many watts that cpu is pulling at stock.(a pretty good guess rather) -
and no it wasnt by OCing it, last thing i did was remove the cpu/gpus and apply AC5 to them. worked fine, temps were way better, then next day... yeah... -
-
need to pull the card out...it still sucks like 35 watts when not in use.
you'll need to turn all the lights off and the screen to it's lowest dimm setting..
but we can still try with sli disabled.
let the computer sit idle for like a few minutes...just to get an idea where the idle watts are at. -
i will try this,
i have a kilowat meter
980x single 480m
XTU is broken for sure, the heat caused by having to ramp up the max amps and watts is silly -
cool...it's time for us to start finding work arounds till they can get the correct fixes in place.
-
sorry for noob question but what is xtu?
-
)
-
Is anyone using drivers other than the ones that came with it? I'm wondering if any Laptopvideo2go drivers work yet.
-
Doing what you suggested: Hope this is what you meant
Stock everything system idles between 91-95w
Using lix 0.6.4 problem size of 32717 (8gb memory) stock 980x pulls 224-228w
Now the same senario but with my 4ghz OC, 1.3125v is using 338-342w! Way above the psu spec.
So stock cpu stressed is using around 130w
4ghz cpu stressed is using around 250w, a little bit on the high side no? -
hummmmm.
and is that the lowest votlage you can use?
next test up:
run msconfig.exe and hit advanced options. set cpu to 8. then reboot. doing the exact same thing you just did.
thanks in advanced. -
Will do, and yes, the 4ghz OC voltage of 1.3125 is lowest I can use
-
that is actually a pretty good voltage though...
-
New Comp
Just took a few pics when I took my computer apart. The other guy I work nights with called me a "total nerd" for taking pictures, haha. sorry for the low lighting... Hope the link worksLast edited by a moderator: May 7, 2015 -
Stock everything system idles between 91-97w with 8 threads
Using lix 0.6.4 problem size of 32717 (8gb memory) stock 980x pulls 183-190w
Now the same senario again but with 8 threads 4ghz OC, 1.3125v is using 244-248w stressed and the same idle loads as above, it still needs the silly amps and watts setting in xtu to achieve 4ghz -
Sli just looks so right, there is a huge hole where my 2nd gpu should be
Still hate the cover over that chipset heatsink fan, gonna save your pics and use them for my referenceLast edited by a moderator: May 7, 2015 -

lol, mine too, its why I havent youtubed yet. My panasonic hdc-tm700 is full of video footage of this lappy, the unboxing, insides, benchmarks etc, lol, shame one small clip will take a week to upload.
God I envy your sli, was that liquid metal you were using as thermal compound?
So stylenote are finally selling this eh? They have 470m's as a slection, do you know if its actually in stock by any chance? -
lol
but so are most of now adays...hahaha
