Well I just placed an order for an X7200. I decided to go with 460M GTX Sli instead of the 480M GTX. I just could not justify spending the extra money on GF100 chips when GF106s are available. Plus I have seen no benchmarks yet for the 460s in SLi either so figured I might as well try em out and be a guinea pig.

The best thing to do would be to wait and see if better cards come out soon based on the GF104, but I hate waiting...

Oh I have no doubt they are great cards, I just have a sinking feeling that shortly after I get my hands on the lappy, a new GF104/106/108 based card will come out that will be better than the current 480's (or reeeally close in performance to them).

I really hope that I can OC the 460's to be close to the 480's at stock...but I am not going to bet on it though.

You'll be able to overclock above stock Mobility 5870 Crossfire. That's a good enough reason to save the extra $720 for something coming in 2011.

Just think, that may be near enough to buy two Mobility 6000s.

That would be nice if ATI/AMD comes up with some new 6000s that are supported by the x7200. I have always favored ATI just a tad over Nvidia because thier cost/performance ratio is always better.

Nope those don't work. They say can't find compatible hardware.
260.xx from nvidia don't offer support for our expensive machines. Lame!

When do you guys think 580M would be available? Two-three months? And would clevo folks put it in X7200? I presume it would have lower power consumption than 480M, if one goes by desktop cards power consumption trend.

^^^Just to let all know my experience with the modified 261.00 drivers. In my case my performance dropped several hundred points in vantage

As for now (or until someone finds a real good one) I am sticking with the standard 5951 Sager drivers...

So i have been reading a lot about the 7280, but cant find a comparison of the SLI 460m to single 480m or SLI 480ms anywhere, also i see some people are very unhappy with the screen quality - not ideal for photo editing, but i will mostly be gaming, has there been any news yet of a new powersupply?

Im planning on buying one as soon as tomorrow... probably from PCtorque as they will accept a Aussie Mastercard for payment to a US address and this will expediate shipping

    - i plan on buying the 950, and waiting until the 990 extreme comes out, but
not sure to go with a single 480 ar dual 460ms!!!!

You mis understand my question, your ASUS "MAY" have the same screen as the sager (and its pretty crap apparently) compared to the sRGB of your Alienware M17, my question was as you have both you should be able to say with some authority if the AW Screen is indeed a lot better!

have a go here, LCD monitor test images on both machines please.
It may help a lot of people out, myself included, I am looking at using a x7200 with and without another screen, but if the primary moniter is crap id like to know if and how much it would cost to upgrade before i buy, and i am planning to buy this very soon!

    thanks!!!!

I wouldn't call this Hannstar panel a crap. Yes, it's not 8-bit RGB LED, but :
    Illumination: 84 %
    Black: 0.12 cd/m²
    Contrast: 1158:1
In addition, viewing angles are very good.
Brightness could be better though - Average: 153.6 cd/m²
I'd rate this screen as one of the best TN panels, second to the RGB LED found in M17X, M6500 and a few other business laptops.

As for upgrading, I'm sure options will appear down the road, as soon as there's a RGB LED 1080p available. I'll grab one personally, especially if it's an IPS :)

yeah. that's what i was thinking, but had to give it a try!.."fail" lol

it's so we can talk about any and everything having to do with our systems, without going "off topic" all the time. our conversations take us around the planet for ideas and solutions. and that just cant be done now. and the answers can come from a guy with a netbook..you never know. with this new topic, it doesnt matter what section of the forum your in..you're never off topic. would like to see something like this stickied so that everyone can come and just chat about anything having to do with performance or mods.
yeah, im inclined to agree...these ocz are starting to work a nerve!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey I'm looking at getting this monster. I am in need of a semi portable editing machine. I work completely with the Adobe suite. Premiere and AE mostly. What graphics setup will I get the best performance out of for my work. SLI 460, 480, or SLI 480?

SLI 480 will be much faster than SLI 460. Plus you can use the CUDA for processing.

Semi portable is indeed the word. Battery is purely a UPS with life around 40minutes in web surfing.

I am actually looking into a super portable to take to meetings so that I don't have to lug this beast around the office. The power supply makes it a royal pain to carry in your hands. The battery at least lasts until I get from my cube to the conference room.

Open the "Intel Matrix Storage Console" right mouse click on the Raid array and enable the "Enable Volume Write-Back Cache"

Also enable it in device manager too

Enjoy, I have the same SSD's as you

    Guys,

What is everyone using to overclock there 980? I downloaded the extreme utility from Sager, but I can not get it to open, it starts and then just sets there at the display page. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

Waduyumin ? Intel SSDs do best ? There are other ssds out there faster than intels offerings, and arent those doing better in the x7200 ?

It realy pays of then, to wait for their 3rd gen.
And i ve been waiting like forever....
