I get reports of users all over the world using the x7200 and other Clevo-Sager offerings and the vast majority say that the Intel SSD's are more consistently stable and have excellent reliability with great speeds.

I was not saying that the current Intel SSD's were the fastest at all. Yes if you can wait, the new upcoming line of G3 Intel SSD's are the way to go...imo...... :)

    Thanks for the link, M8!

Regarding the issues pointed out in the review:

    CPU throttling problem:

Most likely resulted from a poor paste job. Most x7200 owners with 980X report no throttling so far. As soon as we receive the first batch of x7200's I'll be able to shed some light on the matter, but at this point I'd ask those who own the extreme config. to do more testing and see if they can reproduce the problem.

    PSU tripping:

Is pretty much confirmed by many owners/reviewers. Clevo is well aware of the problem and, as many know, we might get a PSU bridge or BIOS update as possible solutions. Personally, I hope for the former, since BIOS update might limit performance/OC'ing capabilities of the system.

FortNax? Is that a play on Fort Knox? You should ask flextronics if they'll sell you their in house branded designs. I bet they could sell something that closely resembles the M17x.

    Hi,

Just bought my X7200. i980X and 460M. Very pleased with the machine exept one thing. My CPU starts to throttle when running prime95. It takes about 5 minutes before it starts. My cpu temps are 85C max when it starts to throttle. Should it start to throttle in that temp yet? I used CoreTemp to measure temps.

I guarantee that Dell has an exclusive deal with Flex for the M17x design haha

The W840DI however, that you might be able to get.

Originally, ForTnax comes from Fornax Technologies. Fornax is a constellation in the southern sky. Its name is Latin for furnace -> Furnace of Technologies. But hiding the Tech part in the middle FORTified the name and also gave some resemblance to Fort Knox, you're right. ;)

Regarding flextronics, awesome idea! We're looking for sources of basic barebones. I'll definitely check that possibility. Thanks!

What thermal paste was used on the CPU? You might need to re-paste it.
Also, does it throttle in games?

That or something else, we don't have to be locked on M17X ;)

W840DI was the M17, the 3870s in CF one. Still a very capable notebook and unusually powerful for its price.

depends on which reading is 85. if it's the tcase, then chances are pretty good your cores are hitting 100 on at least 2 to 3 of them. if it's all the cores and the tcase is something like 65...you probably dont have enough watts.(speculation of course)

    side note:
where is dexgo? his week is up! lol j/k
but seriously..been waiting to see what this machine can do out side of our trusted retailer (babyhemi)
heck, i just want to see what one card can do. since these 470m's seem to be making waves and all...lol

I re-pasted it now with Noctua NT-NH11. It didn't change the situation, it still throttles in Prime95 after ~5 minutes. I haven't checked if it throttles in games. But it shouldn't throttle in Prime95 this fast?

    265W was when gaming.

I only have had it for few days, but so far I'm quite positive about the X7200. Bought it for editing machine and little gaming. My configuration is i980X, 460M, 12GB, Intel 80GB SSD and Bluray burner. There is plenty of power for my needs. Screen is bright enough for indoor use, but could be brighter for outdoor use. Color I find little pale compared to IPS panels. Overall it is ok, but could be better considering the price of the X7200. In normal use it quite silent. Only thing that is bothering about the fans is that when completely idle GPU fan kicks in full when reaching ~41C and then when it reaches 36C it goes back to low speed. This could be handled more gradually. So when GPU is stressed to some degree its fan is actually more silent and steady. These are my initial thoughts.

Usually it is just a few hundred and then your warranty is more trouble to manage as well. I got a barebones OCZ whitebook and very much wish I had just gotten the Alienware M17 all the way up to selling the whitebook and actually getting an Alienware M17x

GPU scores mean nothing in 06 though haha - it is a CPU benchmark more than anything else. The GPUs just set the stage for the CPU to stand on

So I just ordered the following configuration:

    Display: 17.3" 1920 x 1080 FHD LED Backlit Display
    Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-950, 8MB L3 Cache, 3.06GHz (Desktop CPU)
    Memory: (6GB) 6144MB, PC3-10660/1333MHz DDR3 - 3 SO-DIMM
    Graphics Card: Dual NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 460M 1.5GB GDDR5
    Hard Drive: 80GB Intel® X25-M SATA2 SSD Drive
    Hard Drive 2: 80GB Intel® X25-M SATA2 SSD Drive
    Hard Drive 3: 500GB 7200rpm 2.5" SATA 300
RAID: 0 High Performance (Two Hard Drive Configuration)
    Optical Drive: 6X Blu-ray Reader 8X DVD+/-R DL Super-Multi Drive
    Operating System: Microsoft® Windows® 7 Home Premium; 64-bit
Wireless: Internal 802.11A/B/G/N LAN and Bluetooth Card
Cooling: IC Diamond 7 Thermal Compound, CPU & GPU

I couldn't seeing paying the premium for the 480's so was just wondering if there are any good comparisons of this machine with the 460's vs. 480's. If dell would have let me put an SSD and second 500GB SATA in the configuration I may have gone with the M17x. I do think this machine should have a decent amount of lifespan though so looking forward to getting it.

No that means Clevo patch the power issues with a modded bios to prevent the PSU to shut down but they kill the performance in the process to bad Clevo not good business

if somebody is still brave enough to try two power supply's in parallel before updating to this bios they may be able to show the real power of the GTX 480M :)

    Core i7-980X 6-core @ 3.33GHz
    12GB triple-channel RAM
Dual GTX 480M 2GB in SLI
    A-DATA 256GB SSD, 500GB 7200RPM secondary

The new bios doesnt limit the power of the system at all, tyring it for a few days now, seems ok.

I saw one change in the bios options (Boot Fail Clean RTC) which allows the system to clear cmos upon 5 failed bootup attempts,(I think?) thus enabling the system to boot, saves pulling the battery lol which I have had to do once

Glad to hear it is not limiting you, I know that was a big concern. now going the other direction, does it alleviate the power issues? Can you now max out your system without tripping the PSU? Do realize you are using a single GTX 480m and may not see the same behaviors someone with SLI will

I can trip the psu while running prime plus furmark, as I have OC'd the cpu, my psu trips near the 400w range, not bad for a 300w psu. Will try to see if it will trip 2moro with this new bios, I bet it still trips

Why does Clevo out of all concerns make the PSU 300W when 130+100+100=330>300?
I know it's a question asked numerous times before, but still..

Dont forget they also advertise overclocking as a feature on top of the already 330w, so maybe the answer is they're stupid?
