Initially I wasn't going to buy this laptop due to the power issues but the sudden near death experience of my OCZ has given me cause to reconsider.

I'll be buying from the UK with the following specs:
    i950, 6GB Ram, 500GB hdd, 470SLI and BR-ROM.

The laptop will be used for gaming (RPGs, 3rd Person Action, Football Management) and will need to last for 2-3 years, preferably 3.

I'll also be upgrading the CPU/HDD to 980X and SSD sometime in the first 6-12 months after the purchase. Any thoughts or criticisms? I'm open to all suggestions.

    Nice spec you picked there.

I'm happy with my system just that i might need that double PSUs,
when i tried Farcry 2 on high settings with AA on 8x the game works great, game will show power connection unplug icon once in awhile.. might be my twin 480x working hard..

Happy New Year everyone. I've had my beast for almost a month now and I have enjoyed it. Now, I think I am ready to venture into the needed/recommended driver updates.

    1. Do I need to download all of the drivers listed on the software link and is this in addition to the video driver listed on the forum..I think 265.66 if not mistaken?
    2. Babyhemi, you mentioned the bios was the same version, so I do not need to worry about that one right?

Right. You most likely will not need that latest posted bios update. Many of the drivers you see on Sager's website are the same ones that are on your driver CD that came with your system... :)

So I ran the Stone Giant dx11 benchmark to compare the new Clevo drivers (265.77) to the ones I previously used which were 265.66 from LatopVideo2Go. Using Fraps and starting the fraps benchmark from start (hitting enter) to finish of one run of Stone Giant. With the 265.66, total frames: 4674, Min/Max/Avg: 38/74/56.550 fps. Now with 265.77 new Clevo drivers 4504 Total and 36/70/54.534. I wish I could give you a 3DMark11 score but I don't have personal internet for my 7200 in Afghanistan. Just this work internet. But I don't think it would matter since by just looking at the Graphics Test 1 with the subs the average FPS was noticeably lower, from about ~12 to 9-10fps. It doesn't look like these drivers have SLI profiles either for 3DMark11...

Oh and the settings I used for Stone Giant were 1920x1080 w/ high Tessellation and no Diffusion DoF (toggle on/off by F3 button). Off is default.

I also ran it in window mode... and now I decided to run in full screen and it gets much better results, I'll have to re-install 265.66 and try again in full screen. 5283total, 39/87/64.074

hello guys ... i found out that my 3rd motherboard memory ram holder isnt working on my 7280 i opened the machine and when i enter the the memory ram into the 3rd slot ,system doesnt start just makes a sound tried with all 3 pcs of ram ... i have contacted sager and they told me that i should ship the machine back 2 them so they will repair or see what 2 do but am livin in africa lol ill need 2 pay 1200$ just 2 ship it 2 us n then back 2 africa .... anyway i still feel the machine is really fast n my windows experience index shows 7.5 and am only using 4g of ram ( ordered 6gb ) as for gaming n all other normal tasks also there is no performance differences as i have compared my bench 2 a lot of other systems having 6g or 12gb ...
    just a question here ...
is it possible by updating bios or removing the small battery inside the machine n then reinstalling it could make the ram work !?!?
it used 2 indicate 6gb of ram but only 3.99 usable so i think it reads that there is 6gb ! ... could there be a solution 2 it or is it just hopeless ?
am considering getting 8gb ( 4gbx2 ) and using it as dual channel as the 4gb ram irritates me ( makes the machine look kinda old )

Re setting the bios would not fix your problem if the slot is bad but you can try
Getting 2 4gb dims kind of solve the problem the ram size don't make difference on performance only the ram timings like 7-7-7-20 is better than 9-9-9-24 latency :)

R&J Technology, Clevo Barebone Notebook kits, Laptop and desktop system builder does, and their prices are pretty good, except for their CPU prices, Newegg would be 100$ cheaper to buy the CPU seperatly. $999.99<$1,100.00.

I uninstall XTU and re install is working fine and overclock the cpu to 3.8ghz but when stressing it goes up to 90c  then it won't improves any benchmark or game for more than one frame or two so i don't think is worth overclocking the 980x if is already fast enough for gaming if you need more speed for an specific program then is worth it

Hey first time posting, I am planning on getting a sager np7280 and was conflicted on just leaving it at the i7 950 but was thinking if it is realy worth the extra money to get a 960. I have a older clevo d901c and it has held up pretty good and easy to clean. Figured it was time for a upgrade and looking for advice.

    NVIDIA DRIVERS 266.35 BETA

One thing that shines on that is the TDP.

These are the desktop version, it should give you an idea on how power efficient the mobiles ones are.

And now if TS works for 2920xm and it's TDP is unlocked, it should catch up to desktop SB. No need for a hefty X7200 at that point ;)

Very true but not necessary TS i hope they put some kind of overclocking settings on the bios because overclocking with software is fun but after you know what your system can do you just want to set a 24-7 overclock and messing with all kind of software everyday is not fun anymore you know what i am talking about!

Sandy Bridge seems to be the point of conversation this days but come on guys the CPU's are already to powerfull for the existing video cards i hope the scores they showing for the AMD's are a single card that would be insane and i am more exited about that and the new Nvidias too

I am really impressed by Sandy with the early impressions and i can't wait to see the first scores with the new GPU's but the CPU would not improve to much the GPU benchmarks other then 3Dmark 06 :D

Yes I agree, the GPU advances are more interesting. I'm not too excited by the 6900M series though. I want to see what nVidia has up their sleeve because I have a feeling they're going to kick AMD's butt this generation.

Do NOT restart between step1 and step2! Thats a bug at 05-07.
    Unzip it to a USB-Stick, boot from this one, type "step1" - ENTER - wait ... [...] - type "step2" - ENTER - finished? Automatically reboot!

This is how you can flash it without any problems. Had the same ;)

who knows.. but if it is really expensive.. will it be worth it to have 10-15% over the 470/480?

    factory just stop manufacture 480m
the 485m "cost" will be low......see the same core desktop gtx560
gtx560 is not a performance king and 485m is
so 485m may "sell" very high
