hi everyone
first, I am Chinese so I am sorry if my english confuse you.
Right now I own an alienware m17x and i can tell that my 240w power supply is only half of the size x7200 300w one.
I know that right now clevo is trying to solve the power problem with the 2 psu solution.
I am just thinking if they can contract the alienware psu company to make a even more powerful one say 500w at the size of the original 7200 300wpsu
Eventhough, they can not do the job for some reason.
can clevo just do some modify and use two alienware 240wpsus then the total power will be 480w which should be enough for the highest configuration for 7200 and only half the size compared to the original two clevo psus plan.
I am so interested about 7200.

Sager has stated that no company is willing to design a PSU that exceeds 300W. So, Clevo can either take two 200W supplies, do their work to lash them together and enclose them, or simply offer the solution they have now. The first solution puts all of the risk on them with not a lot of reward. So, maybe they can get a 400W design in the future from some company, but I'd expect the current hack job to be around for a while. -
I saw what clevo said about the reason for why two psus and I checked that the psu I have is actually produced by a company called "flextronics". I think clevo should contract this company to see what can they offer.

For those hesitant about having 2 PSUs and would rather have a single unit....

I just recieved my x7200 and I am seriously loving it. It is such a beautiful machine, and I am glad I ordered my 470m's, theyre the perfect cards for me- tons of power, and only one PSU
.
However, my LAN doesn't seem to be working, I plug the cable in and it doesn't register. Anyone got any advice? maybe a new driver?

GTX 470m SLI

80 gig SSD
2x 500gig HDD -
Logically it would make sense for Clevo to hurry up and refresh the design with SB so they don't have to deal with the headache of dual 300W supplies. So even if it's not announced yet, I'd bet money we'll see it sometime 2011. -

Thanks speedy! That fixed it! This computer is amazing.

the price will be SLI lol

Can nobody help?
-
try flash to "older" bios, can find them in clevo bios thread(bios first and ec)
sagers bios has a fan problem on my machine so i went back the older one -
Hi,
bios first?
Is the EC not the first step and than the bios? -
What was the base cost with the SLI 470m cards? I wish they offered them. 485m SLI is like 855 more than one 458m =/.

Hi All, Am about to take the plunge and order a Sager np7280 but would appreciate any last minute advice.
I'm wanting this laptop specifically to run Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 (and other CS5 apps)...will be travelling overseas and working on short documentaries..editing on the road.
A lot of laptops can't cope with this...but apparently the 7280 can..
Couple questions:
Can you travel with this computer? Have you ever taken it on a plane with you with carry on? I am a bit concerned about the size of the machine! What are your thoughts?
Also can anyone see any issues with the specs below for video editing. Thanks for any advice!

travel? im sorry, this is heavy ( 12 lbs++ for the laptop alone IIRC ). its gonna be really hard for you to carry it around the airport, taking it out for the metal detector all the time, etc. i dont have this yet but i had the m17x-r1 and d900f before ( all having almost the same size - weight range +/- 12 lbs. aka teh super heavy weightzz LOL ) and i took the m17x-r1 before on vacation and its really heavy. sore shoulders after the flight.
taking this around the house maybe, but for travel, id suggest the newly released np8150 ( 15 inch - 7 lbs.) or np8170 ( 17 inch - 8.6 lbs. )
plus, the ac adapter of this thing.. or say, monster.. is really big too. 45 mins battery life ( saw it somewhere, i think on reviews ) so you need to plug this in almost ( or all ) the time, or buy spare batteries?
the good thing? well has all the power you need. and this laptop will make other laptops at the airport look like.. little puppies! coz this is the BIG DAWG! LOL!
no video editing experience so no comment on that.
but whatever your choice is, all i know is clevo makes solid laptops. maybe not flashy like alienware, but what important is what's inside. just my opinion. -
so when flashing to older one, BIOS first then EC... -

This laptop is perfectly fine for traveling...I travel with my m17x all the time and it is fine
One simple thing.....use a backpack NOT a messenger bag. If you do that you will be fine. -

I have a Wenger Swiss Gear laptop backpack (I think designed for 17 inch) and the 7280 just barely fits in the padded area, which is the section closest to your back when wearing it. The computer feels secure and well balanced walking around airports, and I carry a bunch of other stuff in the pack too. I have two more trips planned in the next few weeks, and I'm not worried about it at all.
I'm also an Adobe CS5 editor. Previously, I carried a less capable laptop, along with at least two external drives and their respective PSUs. Now, I have all that built into the 7280. I think it's just as easy, if not easier to fly with this thing.
Your configuration looks fine, although a higher level CPU could help you in certain circumstances depending on the type of work you do most. You'll have to "hack" the 460M to take advantage of Premiere Pro's Mercury Playback Engine, but I've done this and it works just fine.
My only wish so far is the 7280 had an express card slot. I shoot on a Sony EX1R that records to SxS media cards, which would plug right in to an express slot for transferring files. Sony makes a USB card reader for them, but I'm looking for something that will utilize USB3.0, or eSata for faster transfers.
Good luck with your purchase, hope this helps a little. -

Thanks so much for the replies...I decided to go ahead with an order...davemo you gave me great confidence that it is possible to get onto a plane...especially the line
"Pulled it out at security and put it in a plastic tub like any other laptop. It's just a little heavier, and a tighter fit in the plastic tub. "
Essentially I'm travelling to Europe...then travelling back again...I don't need to do daily plane travel with it...hopefully train travel will go ok too!
I've ordered the Targus 17" Backpack that XOTIC offer as an option...figured they must know it fits! I'll put the power pack through in the check in...there goes about 2KG of my 20KG allowance!! Found a video that shows this baby...with power pack...that is the biggest power pack I have EVER seen on a laptop....bigger than some other entire laptops!
Thanks for all your help...I eagerly await its arrival in Australia! -
Does anyone know whether it's possible to drive two external monitors, with different output on each, at the same time?
-
I travel almost every week with my 7280. I use the Slappa Koa bag and it fits quite nicely. The Koa has the advantage of zipping open so you do not have to take the laptop out at security. Just unzip the clamshell and the laptop lays flat on the conveyor.
One disadvantage is that this laptop has so much metal in it, that the TSA often will pull it aside for explosives screening (swabbing with the little piece of cloth) because they don't often see laptops of this size.
The on plane power will not be adequate to run your laptop. It draws too much for the in seat power plug to handle. Don't expect to use it on the plane.
If you plan on traveling alot, check out the Slappa Koa backpack. Not having to take your laptop out at security is worth the price of the laptop alone.
The laptop is heavy and battery life sucks so you will have to have it plugged in all the time. But if you need a mobile desktop this is your best bet.
-
I didn't think it could be done, but then I couldn't remember anyone actually trying it. So I hooked up two external monitors, one to the HDMI output, and one to the DVI. Note: I only had an old VGA montor available so I used the DVI to VGA adapter that came with the 7280.
I had to fiddle with the settings for awhile, but without too much trouble I was able to get both external monitors working at the same time. Obviously you'd typically set this up with two matched monitors, but I didn't have this handy. The bottom line is I was able to extend the desktop over two completely different monitors, each at its own native resolution. Pretty cool.
Keep in mind you can only use two monitors at a time. You can't have two external monitors and use the laptop built-in monitor at the same time.
And just to be completely clear, I did not use any external hardware to accomplish this... awesome! -

Hi All, I'm thinking about upgrading to one of these systems, but I have a question regarding the availability of each of the offered cards:
460M - SLI, no extra power brick.
470M - SLI, no extra power brick, but no longer offered??? This one is one that I'd prefer actually!
480M - SLI, extra power brick, but no longer offered
485M - SLI, extra power brick
Are these facts correct? If not, please correct me. As stated on the 470M SLI, this is what I'd prefer as it seems to have the most power utilizing the least amount of "power brick"
Thanks! -

Even with the lesser screen Aikimox? Thought you loved that IPS

The 485M's would be sweet but I may pass on them on my personal NP7280...

I guess its how it is supposed to be benched - default settings, stock clocks and latest clevo drivers but dont know more than I already posted.
Just compare to default Performance score in Vantage or 2011. But who knows what resolution was used
edit: took a look at notebookcheck.net scores and I am bit confused, really...
3DMark 06: 2920XM+GTX 458M is 20206 points
980X + Single HD6970 is 19907 points ( CrossFireX 22699 points - isn that bit too low compared to singe GPU?)
3DMArk Vantage: 2920XM + GTX485M is 12142
980X + Single HD6970 is P13412 (CrossFireX is whoping P22667)
We dont have GTX 485M 3D MARK 2011 score but if these tests were done at the same settings HD6970 might be as
fast as GTX 485M or even faster right? Vantage is not as CPU depedant as 2K6. However
AMD is favourable in syntetics tests right? I am completely confused, cmon local sager/clevo authorities I love to read your speculations -
Yes, Radeons usually get higher scores in synthetics. Anyway, the only thing I can say is that 6970M should be (most likely) very close to 485M, maybe 5-10% behind. Let's wait till more info is available. -
A GTX 485M should score around 3200 (3dmark11) with the same setup (i7 980X)
-
So.. Does this machine get pretty noisy? Would it be noticeable in a classroom or small room with casual conversation? I'm considering the min spec version of the machine, if that plays a role in that sound factor.
I have no idea how sound measurement works. Dp? Get the hell outa here!
If you can compare it to either a toshiba pieceof satellite or ps3 slim, that would be great. Haha. -
