the noise is a common factor to this laptop, it rarely accelerates when i do gaming in sli, but noted that the noise does not come to a point where its already irritating. if i were you i would consider the cooling factor of this laptop other than the noise. heat is more important in consideration, an having a 480m in sli, i say this is significantly cooler than my last asus g50 series.

Does the 7280 have the Ctrl+1 100% fan setting like the 9280 had? I really miss that having the 8690, I realize it cools the hardware just fine on it's own, but there is something I just love about having the control.

hope it may support user control like afterburner

Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
Ok guys the 980X runs hot on this machine and that is not even overclocking so we need to find a solution to solve that
After gaming for 2 hours my CPU gets to 83c and even if that is still acceptable for some people is not for me so going back to the design we find those tick thermal pads on the CPU heat sink and that makes me think since they are to tick maybe don't let the heat sink do enough pressure on the core
so i replace the pads with .5mm frozencpu pads and also put a little washer on all 4 springs of the heat sink so they put more pressure on the core well this drop the temps by 5c and when you stop playng the temps go down faster
that makes me think the cooling on the CPU part ins not to good on this machine compared to the GPU's they running ice cold there is one more option i would like to try and that is open the cover on the second CPU fan i still think that may help with the temps too even if it was design like that for some reason -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Tried unblocking the input to that blocked fan? Sacrifices some secondary cooling but gives alot more airflow to the heatsinks for the CPU/chipset
Give the heatsink modifications in the M17x a whirl for some inspiration -
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
not yet but that's exactly what i'm going to do since the fan has a round seal and when you put the back cover is no way that fan is sucking air from the inside of the machine that makes me think they block the fan because of noise levels not other reason

How are you applying paste? Just redid the paste on my GTX 275 I got for PhysX and DAMMMM that die is huge! (smaller than GF100 too) It dwarfed the die of my 5870s lol
I ask because that was so big I had to do the thin layer spread with credit card method myself (and I typically just do a pea and let it spread from pressure) -

Don't worry if the core is to big and the corners don't get paste that won't hurt nothing since the heat build up on the middle of the coreAttached Files:

My temps with the 980X are under 80° (Prime 95 half an Hour)!
Not overclocked, Thermalpaste IC7 Diamond, fourth Fan open! -
I keep reading how the x7200 can support 24GB of RAM. I wet myself at the idea of doing that. So... err... exactly who sells the 8GB chips? Where can I buy them? Does anyone have a retailer/manufacturer link or two?
-
Anyone have any idea how to pick up a 2nd card (after purchase)?
Machine came with single GTX 460M, and I would like to look at SLI (or perhaps pick up a pair of GTX 485s). I couldn't find them on normal reseller - newegg, zipzoomfly, or even amazon.
Also, is there any addt'l hw required to sync up the two cards or does that come w/ the card itself? -
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
you can get the secondary video card from any Sager-Clevo reseller like LPC Digital , Xotic Pc , RJtech

I'm trying to get a new mouse after I sold mine to a friend. I've been reading about the twin eye sensor's tracking issues. Can anyone here confirm it?
-

according to some retailers i talked to 485m in retail is not yet available, they initially prioritize the customers that transact with a system order. and yet retail pricing for 485m is not yet available.
-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
Gtx 485m $899.99
-
so i assume sli is 2x that price with the upgrade kit?
-
God dayamnnnn I'm fed up of seeing numbers like this, but loads of people buy (me included) so Nv can keep on charging this amount
-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
i just guess that is going to be the price but is not actually confirmed
-
Cannot wait for that -

This situation looks like usual but no not this time i have to pay for a house now and is going to be a while until i can buy hardware again lol.

and would you look at that voltage. right where it should have been all along. 1.0V
side note:
now we wait for the 6900m to respond... -
Larry thats crazy, wow
-
Yeah that is crazy lol..
Nice run there Hemi ..
Maybe someone will crack 30k on the GPUs with these cards..
-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
Hey Hemi send those to me i can do some free testing and show people what they can do
-
the old 480m.....3.0b transistors.....480sp max
if someone cracked 480ms bios would see 30k much earlier
for compare.....i7 980X......1.17b transistors -

That score could catch my desktop with only 4 k more gpu. But that is my desktop stock.

Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
that's impressive i am guessing that is with two power supply's right ? if that is the case can you run some tests with on PSU because this cards may consume less power than the old 480's

+rep!
for all those who thought it was two!
lol
way to put the smack down using only one!!! -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Can you give us a kill-a-watt reading during some peak load to get an idea of what the GTX 485m's require?
-
Wow, 26k on 1 PSU. I wish it's March right now so we can compare the new GPUs from AMD.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
That x7200 is making me consider tearing down the desktop I just completely revamped haha
Fortunately I have a GF that would probably leave me if I did that to help me do the responsible thing and just be happy with my desktop lol -
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
that is even more impressive but we all know vantage runs GPU an CPU test separately and that would never put the system to work 100% like a Game let's say GTA-4 Mafia 2 that is when the system draw a lot of power like couple of guys here on the forum when they running certain games the PSU shut off
Even if i am not getting those cards now is good to know some like that is available for my machine and like johnksss say beat this HD 6900's
