the noise is a common factor to this laptop, it rarely accelerates when i do gaming in sli, but noted that the noise does not come to a point where its already irritating. if i were you i would consider the cooling factor of this laptop other than the noise. heat is more important in consideration, an having a 480m in sli, i say this is significantly cooler than my last asus g50 series.

Does the 7280 have the Ctrl+1 100% fan setting like the 9280 had? I really miss that having the 8690, I realize it cools the hardware just fine on it's own, but there is something I just love about having the control.

Yes, it does actually. Fn+1 maxes out all fans. I either use speakers on max or headphones when playing games so I never hear the fans, even with out headphones or loud speakers, it's quiet for what I would have expected.

Ok guys the 980X runs hot on this machine and that is not even overclocking so we need to find a solution to solve that

After gaming for 2 hours my CPU gets to 83c and even if that is still acceptable for some people is not for me so going back to the design we find those tick thermal pads on the CPU heat sink and that makes me think since they are to tick maybe don't let the heat sink do enough pressure on the core

so i replace the pads with .5mm frozencpu pads and also put a little washer on all 4 springs of the heat sink so they put more pressure on the core well this drop the temps by 5c and when you stop playng the temps go down faster

that makes me think the cooling on the CPU part ins not to good on this machine compared to the GPU's they running ice cold there is one more option i would like to try and that is open the cover on the second CPU fan i still think that may help with the temps too even if it was design like that for some reason

Tried unblocking the input to that blocked fan? Sacrifices some secondary cooling but gives alot more airflow to the heatsinks for the CPU/chipset

Give the heatsink modifications in the M17x a whirl for some inspiration ;)

not yet but that's exactly what i'm going to do since the fan has a round seal and when you put the back cover is no way that fan is sucking air from the inside of the machine that makes me think they block the fan because of noise levels not other reason :)

How are you applying paste? Just redid the paste on my GTX 275 I got for PhysX and DAMMMM that die is huge! (smaller than GF100 too) It dwarfed the die of my 5870s lol

I ask because that was so big I had to do the thin layer spread with credit card method myself (and I typically just do a pea and let it spread from pressure)

It's not a problem to fit 2x6970m in x7200. The problem is to make it work flawlessly. You'd need modified drivers for this specific system, BIOS update and generally, some extensive testing. No reseller (AFAIK) messes with BIOS or drivers. In other words, - forget it. If Clevo decides to offer 6970M's, we will follow.

i always put a rice size or little bit bigger and let the pressure spread the paste that always works better because with the credit card sometimes you leave to much paste on one side and it don't work the same :)

Don't worry if the core is to big and the corners don't get paste that won't hurt nothing since the heat build up on the middle of the core

Thats ok! Also recommended to apply IC7 Diamond Paste!
My temps with the 980X are under 80° (Prime 95 half an Hour)!
Not overclocked, Thermalpaste IC7 Diamond, fourth Fan open!

I keep reading how the x7200 can support 24GB of RAM. I wet myself at the idea of doing that. So... err... exactly who sells the 8GB chips? Where can I buy them? Does anyone have a retailer/manufacturer link or two?

Anyone have any idea how to pick up a 2nd card (after purchase)?

Machine came with single GTX 460M, and I would like to look at SLI (or perhaps pick up a pair of GTX 485s). I couldn't find them on normal reseller - newegg, zipzoomfly, or even amazon.

Also, is there any addt'l hw required to sync up the two cards or does that come w/ the card itself?

With desktops it comes with the motherboard or graphic card. I'm not sure if it's the same in this case.

according to some retailers i talked to 485m in retail is not yet available, they initially prioritize the customers that transact with a system order. and yet retail pricing for 485m is not yet available.

that's impressive i am guessing that is with two power supply's right ? if that is the case can you run some tests with on PSU because this cards may consume less power than the old 480's

that is even more impressive but we all know vantage runs GPU an CPU test separately and that would never put the system to work 100% like a Game let's say GTA-4 Mafia 2 that is when the system draw a lot of power like couple of guys here on the forum when they running certain games the PSU shut off

Even if i am not getting those cards now is good to know some like that is available for my machine and like johnksss say beat this HD 6900's :D
