not to many people could actually over clock cpu & gpu and complete a vantage run either.
but running a game or two would definitely put things into perspective.
that and if they changed anything with this new machine and it's 485's in it. considering they can run at 1.0V while the rest can't??

i could not imagine what score it could have if you OC it lol

These chips are overclocking monsters......and this is all on 1 psu still?
-
one psu might brick...........
if still goodi might get 2 of these beasts......"seriously" lol

Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
Good job Hemi specially since you not up to this kind of things" like overclocking you give us an idea of what Monsters are those 485's
-
2 psus yes, but you had to plug them in a power converter, and the power converter output plug is connected at the back of the laptop.
you don't actually need to plug both psus when using the laptop, maybe if you want to overvolt or OC the cpu or gpu. these guys do initial benches in only a single psu connected.
the reason? so i widens the power limit it can draw, with the power requirements of the i7 980x and 485m sli are quite high. -
It is just two psu's connected in parallel. They will give 2 times more max ampers. They are conected through a simple plug, no other electronics attached on it.

585m may never happen.....people need to stop making up future model numbers lol
485m SLI should suffice for a few years with relative ease -
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
This model is just barely larger than a M17X, very close in size. The PSU though is much bigger... -
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
Actually is not larger than the M17X r2 BabyHemi means thicker than the M17X r2 because the aspect ratio of the Alienware makes it bigger in dimensions and square now the X7200 is more rectangular based on the 16:9 aspect ratio

Eurocom is in Canada, but has a poor reputation. -

I was going to say Aikimox too
He is a great guy to work with -
-
Has anyone done any overclocking with the 460M's and how do the respond to it?
-
The biggest oc so far I've seen is 824 Mhz by speedy. Not sure if you can do more with the new driver.
-
New driver? Is there an official one from Nvidia or is there a new one at laptopvideo2go?
-
So I might change the case to either the Orion or the Slappa Koa backpack Daikyu mentioned on page 273. Those Slappa Koa's do look impressive...
M.A.S.K. Laptop Backpack
One guy in the reviews also specifically mentions using the 7280 with it...
"Bingo! the perfect backpackI am using my M.A.S.K. KOA backpack with my Sager NP7280, one of the largest laptops out there right now, and it fits like a glove! Couldn't be any more thrilled with my purchase! Well worth the money for this quality product!"

Hey, You non-novices probably know this already, but it was a surprise to me, so I'll post: I found out that Windows 7 by default limits the # CPU threads (or cores?) the X7280 CPU can use! If you hit Ctr+Alt_Del, choose task mgr, and on the performance tab if there is only one line graph next to CPU then you are limited.
You can change it by runing msconfig, under boot tab advanced, uncheck # CPUs. I did it, now there are 12 graphs in task manager next to CPU!
I don't know how it helps for speed, I don't run benchmarks. -
-
-
Weird your's would've been set that way.
Note, within Task Manager, you can change the setting to see all CPUs in one graph. Goto View -> CPU History, and choose Choose "One Graph, All CPUs" or "One Graph per CPU". Also note, this change within Task Manager doesn't affect performance of your machine. -
For those who were inquiring, the 470M cards are now back in stock on the NP7280 / X7200
-

Also there is a drop in price for the CPU's...

quick update: had this computer for about a month, i've flown it cross country and also took it to mexico. no trouble carrying it. sure it's heavy at 12 lbs....but....for pete's sake it's 12 lbs! that's like a women's lightweight barbell.
the sound is somewhat disappointing.
temps are very cool, even when gaming, with no additional cooling.
i like the power button. it's huge.
so glad i bought this. -
any ideas about when the x7200 refresh will be? I don't want to buy one now then have them update things next week. thanks

Yes, 990X remains the most powerful CPU for at least 6 more months. IMHO, the x7200's successor may appear a few months after Computex. But I don't know for sure...
-
i hope so too, man that 2 psus together opened the door for the knocking 485m and sli. i wonder what else comes knocking in the future lol

I've also been watching some of the driver updates on this forum, but haven't seen a lot of chatter until recently what the best drivers are for the 470M's.
Has anybody tried the new WHQL's that came out just now on their machines with 470M SLI? How are they? Working right out the box, or do they need a modified INF?

Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
The best driver till now is the one BabyHemi post on the thread you linked i didn't try the new driver yet but you usually face problems using nvidia drivers and not the Clevo ones like no brightness control or the GPU clocks stay at max

Hi All,
This is my first post so be nice!!
Been reading everyone's comments over the past couple of months and am getting close to ordering myself.
I have noticed that a lot of people choose the I-7 950 processor. Is there a reason for this? The reason i ask is that i can afford to go all the way to a 980X processor but i haven't seen many people order this processor and was just wandering if i am missing something
Thanks for the replies -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
For a laptop the i7 950 is more than sufficient. More than that is just if you want bragging rights. The i7 950 is better than ANY mobile processor out and is well priced.
-
her are some benchmarks of the i7 950 and the i7 975 extreme:
Benchmark Results: Left 4 Dead, H.A.W.X, Grand Theft Auto 4 : Intel Core i7-975 Extreme And i7-950 Reviewed
now i don't know how well they scale with GPU(s) but just based off of CPU, i can't justify the cost.
but perhaps i'm just waiting for the mythical 990x. -
Thanks for the replies.
Can you update the processor in the future is you desire?
So hypothetically, if i got the i7 950 now, could i swap for a newer processor down the track? -
-
-
-
from the picture you`ve posted, seems like if i want to change the ram, wifi card, i have to dismantle almost all the machine, or just lift up the keyboard will do?
-
In my case, the x7200 is a tool to write/compile source code. I'm adding more and more threading to software every day, so having a hex-core processor makes more sense than if I was just gaming. I also think if you do a lot of video and/or music encoding-decoding, more cores help as well as super fast disk i/o. Finally, reviews of the i7-970 mentioned it can easily be OC'd to 4GHz. However, I think with the heat footprint of the x7200, that might be pushing it.
You should sit down and make a list of what you will be doing on the x7200. If it is mostly browsing, gaming, email, etc. than a quad core will more than likely suffice. However, if you are using multiple, heavily threaded applications a two more cores or just want the pure power of 6 CPUs (12 when hyperthreading), then spending the extra $$ won't hurt.
Also, FWIW, if you have limited funds and need to choose where your $$ is going to be spent, springing for an SSD instead of more processing power wouldn't hurt. I put in a 256GB Crucial C300 (System/Tools drive) along with two 500GB Momentus XTs (Mirrored data drives). Once I flashed the C300... it was amazing to see this drive's bench marks. -
@ genocidew
Only Keyboard ;-) -
i agree with jcluius. I'm springing for a SSD because it will give me more performance per dollar. This is a gaming machine to me, and i will get more performance immediately from using the funds towards an SSD vs a processor upgrade.
For most cases (i say most because there are BOUND to be those who feel otherwise, and there are exceptions to the rule) the performace/dollar spent path is GPU/SSD(instead of regular HD)/CPU -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I would upgrade the GPUs before getting an SSD personally.....
-
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
The I would implies a focus on gaming and benches
For compiling get the cheapest GPU option lol unless you also care about gaming -
That's what I love about the x7200. Being more of a desktop replacement it has a lot more versatility than other laptops! -
Driver question....
I've had my x7200 a little over a month now and I have enjoyed every minute. Even the wife love's it which makes it all the better cuts down on the wife agro from the money spent. Anyways, I am wondering is it necessary to update all of the drivers listed on the link provided earlier in the forums or is it a "you must cuz you owe it to your machine!". I only ask because, all has worked well except one video glitch where the screen went all rainbow swirly on me, but a hard restart and I have not had the issue since. I can't remember what exactly I was doing or trying to do, but it made me wonder. I downloaded all of the drivers listed except the bios and they have just been sitting in a folder on my desktop while I contemplate double clicking! So....some advice..yea or nay...I just don't want to brick it. It would increase my wife agro!!
