What are the versions of what you downloaded vs. what is installed?

If it is a video driver update, nVidia just released a new update for the 460M (266.58) just two days ago (1/18/2011). It looks like it adds support for 3D monitors / and new profiles for games. However, it looks like you can get 266.57 from Sager, and that is about 8 days old (1/12/2011).

    <my_$0.02>
So, if things are working for you now, you're not too out of date on any drivers, and you don't need anything offered in the latest driver release, then I would think... If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

There's always some kind of risk with change, but most driver updates are no big deal. In the case of nVidia, I'm on my 3rd driver for a machine that is 1.5 months old. Updating has not been a problem on my machine. </my_$0.02>

Besides, w/ Sager support, if you do run into problems, they will be there to help out.

just got my x7200 couple of days ago!!
overall its really nice. questions though.

    1. How to activate the Intel XTU?
    2. Is the Intel XTU for x7200 different from the Intel XTU on Intel site?

keyboard a little bit confusing at first, coming from m17. plus no significant space separating the number key area from the main keyboard.
( look at x7200 keyboard to see what i mean )
keyboard feels like plasticky cheap. or maybe i just type hard?
screen is... looks smaller compared to m17, guess coz its 1080?
kinda hard to take apart if doing it for the first time if doing a ram + wireless card upgrade.
( have to take out three screws at the back - just like m17x - to take the touch sensitive panel thing out. but after that, piece of cake :) )

lucky no dead pixels! not like my D900F before.
wish i knew earlier about sager resellers offering barebones option and returning customers discount. ( bought d900f - np9280 from xotic )
but rjtech offers barebones outright, and they've been really helpful with the shipping issues i have, even though they couldn't really solve it. ended up taking a cab picking up my x7200.
( its only UPS that SUCKED BIG TIME! :( )
hope all resellers offer FedEx as shipping option.

i have also noticed that the settings in the control panel has changed
the physx processor is now 460m(1) when it used 2 be 460m (2)
so which processor should it be and which is better in other words is using the 1st card for physix better than using the 2nd ?
    thanks for any help

But what will LGA 2011 offer much in terms of a laptop? My understanding was LGA2011 would mostly be for multiple sockets/CPUs.

Can you imagine a multi-CPU / hex core laptop? Wonder what the power / heat footprint would be.

well clevo makes the impossible possible right? i think they should be able to do it, but im not expecting the laptop to be thin. :D
they better make it SLi! :D

on the other hand, is anyone able to OC both CPU and GPU at the same time?
4.0 GHz is easy on the 980x after doing a sager bios flash.

    Hello,

    Considering purchasing.

Question. Best bang for the buck:

    A: GTX 485M
    B: Dual GTX 460M SLI

    Thanks.

Many would say go for the GTX 485M. This way you would have the option of getting another one at a later time and have 485M in SLI... :)

lol if you can take the screen from the R3, but it in my x7200, still have it run at 120hz, keep the emitter for 3D intact and still have it run 3d, you are the best!

    Like almost everyone DPA :D

i didn't get that, taking the screen of the r3 to put it on the X7200 must be possible if is not 'edge-to-edge' like the one on the r2 but the emitter must be built in the bezel or the frame and i don't think is possible you will have to use the "traditional Nvidia emitter" :)

now if i put the X7200 screen on the r3 is only going to run at 60hz that means the 3d is gone :(

what i meant was, if I have a 1080P LCD in my x7200, i wish i could take the r3 screen and put it on the x7200 so it may be 120hz and 3d capable. I don't mind an external emitter

Well according to UPS tracking it looks like my new Sager 7280 has arrived in Australia...cleared customs....and will be delivered within a few days...am somewhat amazed as I only ordered it 2 weeks ago! Impressive building/shipping effort from XOTIC PC and UPS so far! (thought it might take 4-5 weeks)
Anyway this means I need to organise power and a backpack ASAP.

Can anyone advise on what form of power adaptor I should make sure I get?
I want to use the laptop here in Australia....but then also over in the UK, Germany and some other European countries.
Do I run the risk of blowing up the laptop or if I just pick up a generic adaptor from a travel shop?

Backpack wise I've nearly settled on the M.A.S.K. Slappa Koa backpack as shown here:
    M.A.S.K. Custom Build Backpack

I want to hold the 7280 in it as well as my Canon 60D Dslr...and maybe a couple of lenses. Is this a good option...is there some other bag that would be more suited?

Any advice, as always, greatly appreciated and valued!

    Mavoz,

I just ordered mine last week so hopefully i get mine as quick as you do. Who did you order yours from and what are the specs?

As for the adapter, im pretty sure i read that a normal one will do as the power supply is 120v-240v. If the power supply was only 120v, then you would need a stepdown transformer i think it is called.

But hopefully someone in the same situation as us (in Australia) can shed some light.

    I am jealous though!! lol

I played Fallout new vegas for 2 hours. After that I checked the temperature of my GPU, and it shows 91 for first GPU and 85 for second GPU. Does it normal ??? I use 470M SLI and the game at highest setting. :(

Was the bottom elevated or flat on a table? If there is no inflow the thermal paste will make no difference.

Ya, if there is not space around the bottom of the laptop for it to intake air then there is little airflow across the fins of the heatsink resulting in minimal heat exchange, so the majority of the heat is not being removed but residing in the GPU and heatsink. If you are going to use in your bed, I recommend getting a lap desk and a notebook stand to create a gap under the notebook where air can be sucked in from

The vents should always be open for proper air circulation. Obstructing them may result in damage to internal components.

I'd also monitor the temps 24/7, especially when gaming or benching.

I do not remove the battery on my M17x unless I am using it as a desktop pretty much. I do however unplug the AC whenever I shut down the laptop so it is not plugged in all the time.

Has anyone heard any whisperings about a P67 refresh of the X7200?

I need the 3 HDD+1 ODD support of the X7200, so the P170HM is not an option.

And I'm also keen to run the i7-2600K :p

PS: I just emailed Sager with the same question - will post back here if I get a response.

It will not be around the price of the 460m. I can guarantee that. It may cost Clevo that, but they will charge the end user more, it will be priced based off of performance not cost

Just like the Mobility 4870 and 5870 were? AMD doesn't charge per performance.

We already have indication showing it's going to be less than $500.

The 4870 outperformed all of the competition and was priced as such (more expensive than GTX 280m) - not counting the crazy pricing of the D901c gpus

The 5870 was kind of a fluke in pricing - I will give you that ;)
