I saved all summer to get it and had to eat ramen for a week afterwards until my next paycheck haha

I got it the summer before my senior year of college (income was pretty much 100% disposable). Now I have a job, rent, car payments, the works. I make $48k/year and could still afford to get it again although that would be grossly irresponsible (something the girlfriend always reminds me lol)

I have actually contemplated selling my Alienware and getting an x7200 but know that I would be LUCKY to get $2k out of the $3600 I have spent on it (and have a beast of a desktop too so don't really need that mobile power )

 

6970M benchmarks up from eurocom for the x7200 (sadly no 485M benches to compare against)

Horrible crossfire performance (driver issues?) but 10 to 17% better than 470M single card. Great alternative to the 485M if priced right.

They're also calling it a 100W card when full GPU load power consumption is almost identical to 470M.

 

They said the 6970m will be cheaper than the 470m so the pricing should be great.

 

We know that much, but I don't trust Eurocom's price delta

Right, and that's why I can't trust the delta. Have they raised the price of the 470M more or less in relation to the 6970M? That's what will tell you the true cost of the 6970M.

 

$420 per M6970 according to their website, which makes the 470M $495. The 485M would be $895 according to the pricing, which sounds about right. ( For Eurocom ) I think it's an accurate indicator of what to expect. I'm sure the Sager resellers will have it for a tad less, but still $400 per card is great since we're seeing double that for the green flagship. I'll buy 2 and that will solve my vid card dilemma.

 

Anyone wondering how their x7200 will fair with Crysis 2? PC demo comes out soon...

 

Crysis 2 will be a shameful shadow compared to the original. It is a console game now......the x7200 will be able to max out Crysis 2 (maybe even play it in 3D)

 

Wow, I'm glad the SNB recall isn't affecting the X7200. Although I'm worried now that there will be an increase in orders for the 7280 and there might be a delay in orders, but hey it's alot better than being totally screwed by intel. A voltage oversight, something really not that complex from what Anand said. A power saving feature that was overvolted and deteriorates the SATA controller 2-5 over time! Yes, Crysis 2 will be a corridor shooter in the city, since consoles are sporting hardware equivalent to a 7800 GTX it will be easily maxed out in the PC. It still looks pretty amazing from the tops of the buildings though! Seems PC is taking a huge backseat, all of the old PC loyal developers are going console now, and we're seeing less games like Crysis But hey, that makes laptops like the 7280 able to run games maxed with all the fixin's, and that's ok with me.

 

Well, Crytek says it's going to have the best PC graphics ever with lower requirements than the first game. It's more the other way around, a PC game engine that was created for PCs and then it was also made to run on consoles. It's not like it's going to have the same graphics as a console. This MP trailer alone looks pretty awesome, hard to tell if it has the "best graphics evar!" by watching a 720p youtube video but it looks pretty amazing to me.

Yeah. We'll need to keep an eye on things, but I've yet to see a reseller with a Sandy Bridge capable MB in production/for sale at this time.

Not really, Metro 2033 is available on the weaker of the two consoles... the 360, yet on PC its still difficult to keep a steady 60fps with 3 58ogtx hydro coppers at 1440 res. And literally impossible to reach 40fps @ 1080 on notebooks

Edit* you gotta remember console architecture is different from PC, plus their programming budget is leaps and bounds ahead of PC games allowing developers to properly utilize every part of the console. my point is that even if crysis2 is available on the 2 kidmachines, it does not in any way mean that crysis2 wont be a graphical power house on PC. I mean we all seen the CryEngine 3 tech demos *shivers*

 

Give it 2 months, they should be announced, Apple solutions consultants and Apple solutions managers are having a cupertino meeting very soon, this happens every year before a refresh. And since I don't work for apple I can say this My ASM on the otherhand....

 

I want something more powerful than the 460m but don't want to pay too much more. Are the dual 460ms much better than the 470m? Is there anything coming out soon that's worth waiting for (that new ATI card is coming out soon, right?)

 

HEy guys did anyone see a review of the dual 485m ????? Im seriously considering the dual 485m GTX solution and really need to see some numbers.

If you can afford it, get the GTX 485m SLI and don't look back. The cards are monsters

 

what games do you play? i play BC2 crysis, WoW, and COD on ultra/high with no problems whatsoever.

 

Yea, tax returns are inbound, and me and my wife need another computer Ill be giving her my MBP and getting this bad boy for myself... Its just I dont want to kick myself in the head if the 6970 comes out faster with new drivers and much cheaper.... and if this one drops in price after a month... oh man...

Edit: if you would not mind would you tell me the frames you are getting maxing out Crysis @ native res? (no need for >4x AA )
And frames in general with settings on the games you do play. just to get a taste of this I do believe you will be the first person in the world to do so....

 

metro is badly optimized it doesn't run well on anything, but I can max it out and be within playable range. i only dipped into the 20's a couple times, but it didn't interupt gameplay (that is with full AA) if there is a level that moved to the right - i switched it.

Crysis runs fine. in Ultra i got to the low 40is on everything maxed out. (again full AA and everything) and i had not OC'ed the GPU's yet. Crysis 2 will be easy as it was also ported to consoles and whould be about the same effort on the GPU as Crysis warhead.

with WoW everything turned up max i was getting 60fps (until i realized vertical sync was on) then went to 100 (until i realized i had the frame rate cap on... then went as high as 225. but hovers around 130-140, in dungeons and raids. in a place like Org, i get around 80-90

SC2 with everything maxed I get to around 60-80

 

Wow, all of this sounds amazing...40fps on crysis running 1080 with everything maxed is incredible...

One more question, and sorry for annoying you ) I'm just so paranoid....

Did you run anything with full physx support? if so does it hurt the performance much?

reading what you want again, i thing you have to look at where you are coming from and what you are going for. I came from an imac running bootcamp to play all my games. It worked, surprisingly well, but i wanted more. Fact is there isn't a notebook around that can push the numbers that the x7200/np7280 can.

if you are looking for a notebook. you can't have one that can produce more eye candy than the x7200. from there you're moving to desktops, and you'd still have to build it custom to get these numbers.

I've seen insane benchmarks in this thread, but i was just curious about the temperatures...

what sort of idle and load temperatures are to be expected from say an i7 950 and Geforce GTX 485M in this monster?

My desktop is running a 950 as we spead, idling att 35 degrees with stock cooler. I'm hoping idle temps in this laptop will be around 50?

 

when i did my benchmark, the temperatures stayed in the mid 60 at peak. so i know i can push them more.

during idle, my temperature is around 35-40 degrees. i'm also using a laptop cooler. I'll take a picture tonight.

 

I have 2 5870s in my desktop, they turned out pretty poor numbers (like 45 fps) in the Crysis benchmark tool but maxed out the game and never went below 60 fps (until the very last scene on the carrier deck)

I may need to do some tweaking to figure out the bench

 

Hey Edison why you don't open a new thread for GTX485m benchmarks on the main Clevo section that way we can find all the benchmarks on one place and if more people are interested on the machine they can go there for reference

The power cord is too short. Although this is an awesome machine I love, for me this would have been a show stopper. It makes it unmovable, without dropping the brick, or the laptop or both (again and again).

If you like to sit in bed with the laptop, and browse, this is a major issue, since the brick doesn't reach the floor, and you can't move one to the floor at the same time as the other because of the size, the cord pulls the other, so you end up dropping one...And yes, I know what I'm doing, I've been on computers since punch cards, and the TI80, Vic20, Commodore 64, Pet, 286. 386, 486, ...

 

i wear a 5.1 headset so the gaming sounds PERFECT. but i don't look to laptops for high fidelity. i have't watched a movie on it, but honestly i don't think i would. i haven't noticed anything "ewwww.... not so good" in fact i was actually surprised that the laptop actually has 5 separate speakers and a subwoofer. I have listen to pandora on it, and it sounds fine. but then again, i usually listen to pandora on a home theater stereo cause thats what it's used for. I watch movies on a TV and on a much more portable laptop if i need to watch movies on the go. I don't plan on going to the park with this thing to watch a movie with my girl... it probably has enough battery life to last through an episode of the simpsons.

But when i game, nothing will sound better than headphones to me unless i have a dedicated and tuned 5,1 system.

are they harmon kardon, or polk rivals? no. But i think they easily carry their weight. people watch movies on an ipad and the built in speaker and they are worlds worse. i'd say it's comparable, or even a little better than a good portable dvd player but with 5.1 discreet channels.

so to answer your question - do i have a problem with the speakers? absolutely not. I think they sound great given what this machine embodies, pinnacle of portable gaming power and prowess. nothing gets close, but in that same regard, I believe the laptop was designed with a specific consumer in mind. If i want high fidelity with the laptop, there is an spdif output on the right side of the machine

in short... don't let this laptop pass you by because you hear the sound may not be up to par. I'd by this laptop over again if it was just a mono speaker at the top of the keyboard.

i sound like a fanboy don't I...

 

I went for the gusto and ordered an x7200 last night with dual 470s with Xotic. The extra $750 for dual 485s, although tempting, was just way too far outside of common sense for me, even if it does offer 20%+ better performance.

I'm moving from an m17x with an i7-920 and dual 5870s which I sold last week, but regretted having to move back to my apartment-space-and-power-sucking desktop. Hopefully, the x7200 will offer a little better performance than my m17x. Can anyone who has moved from an m17x to a x7200 make any comment on any general or non-obvious differences or quirks I should expect?

Also, how long does Xotic usually take to ship a beast like this? My order is still sitting at "processing".

A general warning for some of the posts of late. Everyone not using the x7200 on a flat, hard surface should consider a laptop cooler or the very least some kind of flat surface for the underneath. Remember folks this is a desktop replacement w/ either desktop or desktop-like components, not really a low power/heat computing device.

This thing can heat up quickly, especially if the air intakes are blocked by a blanket or sheet while in a bed, chair or couch. Also a plastic cooler underneath will protect your legs from "footprint" dimples from the sheer weight of this beastie.

To Zalgradis, while not exact (single 460M, i7-970, (1) Crucial C300, (2) 500 GB Momentus XT), I posted some temps I noticed during some burn in sessions.

 

Don't know if it would work in your case, but a low tech solution I used -> extension cord and a night stand.

I have a Cryo LX but i don't use it for regular gaming just when overclocking

 

I have a Cryo LX as well (purchased it a while back to go with my w90vp). Does it fit the x7200 adequetely?

 

I would have gone for a single GTX 485M and then got another one later on because the GTX 485M is as good as 2x 460M's. I guess it depends on how many games can take advantage of SLI.
