    Upper left corner in the grey bar, choose "user CP", once in there use the edit signature link.

    Maybe the signature function doesn't work until you have a certain number of posts?..

    That's the only logical explanation..

    Are you sure you want those? :p

    When I tested the GTX 485M Vs the ATI 5870 I noticed it never handled GTA IV as well as Nvidia and others have made similar claims. I wonder if GTA IV was designed with Nvidia in mind.

    Nvidia gives generous help to developers to get games working - they often end up favoring nvidia cards in performance...who know!

    When I have similar problems and can't find an official way to resolve it I just use water soluble marker pens to colour over the offending light to reduce its brightness. I don't know if this will work in your case but it is worth considering.

    Yes, we seem to have quite a bunch of people with GTX 485m SLI - maybe some of them could do some benching so that we can compare it with the CF 6970m... :)

    Hello,

    thanks, I installed it, but it would not let me go any further than the Amd overdrive... 710/ 1000.
    it doesn´t do that much - for example, 3DMark 06 will go to 21111 points.

    I am used to use Nibitor and change vbios and flash it with a USB stick with nVidia cards - is there something similiar for ATI cards?

    You'll need to disable the official OC limits.

    In your MSI Afterburner folder (C:/program files (x86)/MSI Afterburner), there should be a config file called MSIafterburner.cfg (should be opened with notepad). Under where it says "EnableUnofficialOverclocking" (towards the bottom of the file), change the value from 0 to 1, so it will look like:

    EnableUnofficialOverclocking = 1

    Also, you might as well set values for the following:

    UnlockVoltageControl = 1
    UnlockVoltageMonitoring = 1

    If the 6970Ms have unlockable voltage controls (unlikely but worth a try), then that should also be changeable with Afterburner.

    Edit: Also, make sure when saving the file, you go to "Save As" and go to "All Files" as the Save As Type. Type or copy/paste the exact name (MSIAfterburner.cfg), then click yes if it asks you to overwrite.

    Here's a better guide on how to do it:

    http://www.overclock.net/ati/641299-guide-enabling-unofficial-overclocking-msi-afterburner.html

    Edit: Also, forgot to add, since you're running Crossfire, you'll probably have to disable the Ultra-Low Power State in CfX to overclock with Afterburner. It's not definite if you have to, but If you're able to OC your cards without locking up, then you should be fine. If not and if you're interested, I could show you how to disable ULPS.

    Has anyone tried MSI Afterburner with the nVidia GTX 460M, 470M, or 485M? It says the tool is for MSI based cards, but would it work with the x7200 nVidia cards?

    My order didn't go through! my bank declined it, I think because of the value of it (never spent this much on my card) and it was an International transaction although it's given me a few more days to tinker with my choice now. I'm thinking of going with 1 nVIDIA GTX 485M and upgrading my CPU from an i7-950 to the i7-980x (I can upgrade my GPU to SLI) if my system demands it later in the year/next year. Would this be the right route to take ?

    Well I'd like some opinions as I now have to wait another day to order again.

    I would get the gpus now and upgrade the cpu later. That will be MUCH easier for you as the gpus are hard to get a hold of and very costly aftermarket

    As Scook said get the extra GPU now and worry about the CPU later..

    CPUs are a dime a dozen but GPUs can be a costly venture and most certainly will run you far more down the road ..

    Hey guys (and please correct me if this is the wrong spot to post this) but i recently bought a x7200 with a i7 950, 12 gb ram, and gtx485m in it. However, the issue is that according to my coretemp readings i am hitting around 85-92 degrees when running sc2 in the background (or normally) and it will typically cause a system shutdown from (what i believe is) obvious overheating.
    Is this somewhat of a common problem with the x7200? please let me know if there is anything i can do besides send it in for repairs! thanks so much

    Keep the GPUs, if you don't want to get reemed later on. Also Extreme CPUs tend to lose value quite quickly after the next generation makes it not so special anymore. Extreme CPUs will always be more than regular CPUs, but they drop in value much more than laptop Video cards.

    Well for instance, go to RJTech.com and look at the laptop video card section. You will see even older cards still bring as much now as they did 2 years ago, they hardly ever drop in value since (1): there aren't as many made in the first place (2): laptops' MXM slot, and power requirements make upgrading to newer cards impossible after so many revisions. Unlike the desktop, where you have a PCI-E slot, you can put any video card you want in it. Finally (3): You can't just go down to Best Buy and pick up a high performance laptop card with heatsink that happens to fit your laptop, so they can charge what they want.

    It's killing me, I can't buy a X7200 until the M6970 is out, I know I could get a 485M, but hell it looks like the 6970 is as strong for half the price, and that is enough to make me wait. I do hate how this laptop's BASE price is $2100, that's crazy since the 8170's base price is like $1400, just doesn't have SLI. Does anyone remember what the base price of the 9280 was?

    Yes, please. Would be great to have all benches aggregated in one thread: would be even better if the creator could collect 1:1 benches in the first post. I don't know how much time I've wasted these past couple days trying to infer results from the smattering of posts here :)

    I expect delivery of my x7200 today and will add to the comparison shortly. Thanks to everyone who has contributed so far.

    Impending results not withstanding, going from the heaps of desktop 560 vs. 6850 desktop reviews, I still expect GTX 485m to be 10-15% faster than 6970 when the dust settles with 6970 blowing the doors off on price/performance.

    looks like Origin has the 7200 with a single 6970M but no crossfire as of yet, just been checking out retailer sites to see if any one is going to get this configuration. What is the main difference between the 7200 s-1 and the 7280 any way?

    Just got my x7200 and installed an ssd, then did a fresh install of Win 7.

    My first impression is it reminds my a lot of my old w90vp: same general size and dimentions; great build quality, built like a tank; excellent cooling and super easy to access components. On the other hand, same crap keyboard (fn key for num lock... seriously?) and same hardly functioning volume control (I think it must be the same hardware that was used on the Asus). With a better keyboard, it would be a 9/10; with this keyboard it's a 7 or 8/10.

    Also, screen is, as expected, the same as on the g73. Not bad by any means, but not an RGB LED. I'll be hooking it up a good part of the time to my lcdtv in any case.

    Installing some games now and will post some 1:1 comparisons with Timez's 6970s.

    Just a guess comparing to other TN panels I've used, but looks to be around 5ms.

    Turning in for the night, but I was able to get in a run of Vantage (out-of-the-box Performance setting; all stock on GPUs, CPU):
