One benchmark? Don't you doubt your GPU power, M8! First, 6970M drivers are in a similar situation, hence some weird results in certain games. Second, I'm afraid some BIOS/vBios updates are necessary to make the best use of your cards.
Dell is supposed to have their version on 6970M's ready by March 06, so we'll have a better picture of the performance. Even if the 485M's hold the crown overall (some predict 5-10%), you'll still be amazed with your cards performance.

So Origin is proposing their Eon17 (aka Sager 7280) with the new Intel i7 990x CPU. Guess we will see it on some other vendor pages in the coming weeks...

Really wish the 3x8GB (24GB) would be more accessible...

Ok, so I've seen many bencharks for the different video cards on here, but I don't understand any of those numbers. I have 2 480 SLI cards. If I upgrade to 2 485 SLI cards will it be faster? How much (like in simple terms), 5%, 10%? A lot, not much?

    Thanks,

the 480 cards are awesome. if you have 2 480m cards in SLi, i wouldn't recommend upgrading your cards unless you use bricks of hundred dollar bills for firewood.

The performance difference between 480M and 485M is ~40%. It is a lot if you ask me. But the question is, do you really need an extra 40%? ;)

I think they'll ultimately trade blows. The 485M is faster in Vantage while the 6970M is faster in 3dMark 11. Gaming wise, it already seems like a similar situation.

    21,400/15,800=1.354=35.4%

    40/35.4=13%

Estimating within 13% is good enough for me.

So, 35% is still a big increase but it is still an expensive increase and you might not appreciate the difference for a couple of years or more. I would wait a year or two or three and consider upgrading to the latest and greatest at that time.

Future card support in machines is always up for speculation but if any machine should support newer cards into the future this should be the one..

Considering this machine can handle 2 PSUs theres really nothing they cant put in there unless somehow the MxM changes or they(Clevo) just flat out dont want to support it ..

2x470s or 2x485s should last anyone quite sometime thats for sure ..

for SLI'd cards is Memory Clock divided by 2?

I set it to 1580 and its showing 790.

    I have 2x485M in SLI.

    790 * 2 = 1580.

    Is that how it works?

If you placed an order 5 days ago, my guess is if you haven't heard regarding anything on back order all is good. Just verify with your vendor.

FWIW, I just checked AVA Direct and Sager. AVA Direct is still selling 470's and looks like a couple of 480's still in stock. 485's are on backorder. Sager is out on backorder. Can't tell if XoticPC has things in inventory. RJTech and LPC-Digital seem to still have 485's for sale. Don't know what Aikimox and fortnax have in their store.

My guess is it depends on the vendor, and what they have in inventory.

Depending on what I hear from Xotic, I may just cancel. I am leaving on a buisness trip end of March, and was hoping to have this by then. I wont be home to sign for it when it arrives if it runs into the 3rd or 4th week in March, and can always look and see whats avaliable when I get back.

have you tried running it as administrator?

when you click on the OC options you should be able to change the memory clock and shader clock. the GPU clock should be locked down as well as voltage.

remember to change both GPU's at the bottom left. I didn't know you had to change both and cause a little havoc for a while.

aren't you supposed to be adjusting GPU clock and memory clock?

msi after burner allows you to change core clock, shader clock and memory clock.

also, what are you guys running your benches on? what resolution? 1080p? all max?

what resolution are most of you guys using when gaming? 1080p is the monitor's native resolution...which is why I thought that 1080p should be what benches should be run on.

gpu and shader clocks have a sort of relation it seems to me as evidenced by the gpu clock changing when I adjust the shader clock in inspector.

as for benching, I see "performance" used for the majority of the time. vantage doesn't have a preset for our 1080P screens so it makes it more difficult to have a standard.

The 3DMark benches have standard resolutions they should be ran at for comparison's sake.

    3DMark06: 1280x1024
    3DMark Vantage: 1280x1024 (Performance Preset)
    3DMark11:1280x720 (Performance Preset)

nice score, in comparing cards the GPU score is better than the overall score and 25K seems to be about right for the 485m.

    I have, they said

"I looked at the NBR post about that and it seems just one person is reporting that. We have not been able to corroborate his story with Sager and they still claim that they will have the 485M by the original time that they had given us. It is pretty rare for Sager to give an ETA and then not meet it. I will contact Sager for you and double check again with the production manager there and let you know."

Looks like was just one persons rumor.....still waiting for Sager to verify, but feelin much better about whole thing.

And opn a totally unrelated note, for anyone with a MSDN or Technet sub, Windows7 SP1 is out

Unfortunately not correct, 485M's are not available right now and expected in next week (approximately Tuesday or Wednesday). They are NOT in stock at Sager at this time for the 7280 / X7200.

EDIT: For those wanting to know the 485M will be available next week and they expect to fill all orders at that time.

So it is good to report that there is no long delay in getting your Clevo x7200 and Sager NP7280 with the 485M's. That was just a wrong rumor.

For example we had a NP7280 S-1 that shipped out yesterday with the 485M. Next week in my book is NOT a real delay... :)

I ran into an issue last night attempting to set up a new MediaSonic dual bay external enclosure (USB 3.0 or eSata). My preferred method to attach is via eSata since it would leave USB 3.0 port free and eSata is a tad quicker. However, when attaching via eSata, only one 1.5GB drive was recognized. After trying to reattached, checking and double checking settings, I hooked up via the USB 3.0 cord -- poof, both drives appeared in Windows.

I was looking through the bay's documentation and there was a note stating "your eSata hardware must support port-multiplier for dual HDDs". I'm assuming this is the the cause of the issue. Does the x7200's eSata support port-multiplier or am I missing a driver?

Oh, and I hit 30,000 in Vantage last night. Yay.

    Congrats!

On the eSATA stuff, nothing in the manual, except a description of "one eSATA port." SATA port multiplication allows a port act like a kind of SATA hub, but most controllers do not support this. In order to keep things simple for just the one port, I doubt the x7200's controller for the single eSATA port has this functionality.

This is all supposition on my part, but someone familiar with the component (such as Clevo) might actually be in a better position to answer this.

Well, since i'm not able to control the multipliers using rmclock, my temps go to 80's under stress testing, but i cannot say it is that high. For the increase in performance it's worth it.
