Do you see, Edit Email & Password, Edit Profile, Edit Options? But "Edit Signature" is not there?

If that is true, then someone mentioned in the last 10-20 pages of this thread there is either a time limit or post threshold that when triggered you can edit the signature. Perhaps that is blocking your sig?

I reseated the CPU this morning, applied Artic Silver and temps are still ridiculous at stock (it looked like the contact was ok from the original installation). Idle is around 61c and I just hit 92c after about 3 min of Prime. I'm going to let the paste settle for a couple days, but don't expect any large change.

I think I got an extremely hot-running CPU, by far the worst I've seen out of about 8-9 i7's I've worked with. I'm really not comfortable having this thing run very long.

I don't think it was diamond since it's dark grey -- looks more like Artic Silver if I had to guess.

I'm wondering if Sager got a batch of hot-running CPUs (or used they're worst samples in the last batch of 950s)... Seems like most of us who got our x7200s in the past week or two are experiencing outside-of-envelope temps. I'm definitely not happy that my CPU is sitting here idling at 62c now :(

Sorry. Don't really care too much about Futuremark, 3dMark, Crysis, or other of those benches, as I'm not using this machine for games.

In a regards to CPU temps... Again, I'm at a i7-970 (not i7-950). Here is an excerpt from an email to AVA Direct back in Dec...

"When idle, temps are around high 40s to mid 50s. Under a prime95 load (in a 68F degree room), after about an hour case is low 70s, GPU is low 40s, and CPU cores seem to reach between high 70s to mid 80s. This seems a bit high to me."

As mentioned things are lower now, and my temps as I write this are high 40's to low 50's.

Have you got the new BIOS if not try flashing it might help
or download xtu 2.1 from intel and se what it says about the temp
have you checked the fans if the are running ok speed wise i meen .
also run the fans at max speed from bios not on auto and se what hapends
my np sounds like plain testing it engine revs up then down and up

Glad it's been activated for you.

Hope you guys figure out the heat issue. What are you using for HDDs? SSD or traditional platter based drives? How many? Could it be heat dissipation from other components?

Perhaps other i7-950 users can chime in on their temps, just to see what others are seeing in their setups.

My 950 definitely runs hotter and the CPU fan continually spools up and down to compensate...

    0 - 62
    1 - 57
    2 - 61
    3 - 58

    GPU 1 - 36
    GPU 2 - 34

What do your load temps look like? mine top out around 92c which is a good bit outside the safe-running envelope for an i7 long-term. I have a spare i7 920 I'm going to install to see for sure if I got a bunk cpu or if it's something else.

after running 3dmarkvantage with 3 passes my temps are:

    0 - 77
    1 - 81
    2 - 78
    3 - 82

    with PPU/off

    0 - 81
    1 - 83
    2 - 82
    3 - 83

not sure of Phyx made a difference - but there are the numbers.

My 950 is definitely an imminently bad sample. Just replaced it with an extra 920 (that isn't, by the by, a very cool-running sample) I had and it's is running significantly cooler (51c idle/73c load).

I'm not sure what to do here... An i7 that idles in the low 60s and does 93c load (I hit this high after just 3 min of superpi) is not tenable for long term use, but I doubt Sager will replace it since it's technically within (but at the very limit) of operating spec.

Is 92-93C allowable by intel? I don't know the heat parameters of the i7-950. No reason shelling out another $300 (USD) for a new processor.

Where did you purchase from? I know it's probably not what you want to hear, but what is their return policy? You may have to actually return the laptop in order to resolve this problem.

Perhaps some of the vendors can jump in on what to do in a case like this.

    Evening everyone,

Sorry for posting a question that has most likely come up before, i haven't had a chance to read through the thread.

A friend of mine recently purchased a clevo x7200 with i7 960 and is experiencing high temperatures:

    IDLE: 55-60 degrees
    FULL LOAD: (prime95 10 mins) 93-95 degrees

These have been recorded with an average room temperature of 20 degrees.

should she be concerned about these temperatures, or are they normal / perfectly stable?

    Thanks for your help

    -Zal

I am also having heat issues, using the 950 in the x7200 w/ one 485m. Yea idle temps are about 60's which is ridic!! I told malibal and actually already have my RMA, until i found if you sager users hit the Fn+1 key you will get max fan speed, which will considerably cool down the x7200.
If I don't his the Fn+1, then it freakin goes to like 90 degrees in some games and shuts off. I don't think its the thermal job either I have the arctic stuff on it.

So if you wanna play games hit Fn+1. (but it's gonna be loud!)
Also, i am running the nzxt notebook cooler as well. I almost feel we are not all a giant coincidence, but that they got a bad batch of intel cpus or something. :/... i still have like 15 days left to get a full refund and I might do that still dunno.

At this point we're gathering the info regarding the heat issues and I have a couple of questions:

Could you guys post your temps (a screenie of HWMonitor/HWinfo32/Everest/etc would be awesome) with Fn+1 while running Prime95 without notebook coolers? Also, please specify your room temp, the CPU/GPU/s and the thermal paste used.

In addition, are there any systems with the plastic vent cover removed?
    See the attached pic.

    Thank You

I hope we can avoid the confusion here, - Don't remove the cover (unless the system came without it). If yours has the cover (and I assume most should have it), - leave it as is.

Will post some screens of HWMonitor once out of work, but I did think of that, and temps are about the same for me with or without my Cryo cooler, maybe 1-2c less with the cooler.

LOL - I noticed that vent over the CPU fan was covered when I was re-installing/re-pasting the 950 and thought that was the problem. For a split second, I was thinking about prying it off, but then looked at how the air was being directed (the vent is covered to direct the airflow out the back of the case) and saw some pics from reviews with the cover.

Aikimox knows what he's talking about. IIRC, somewhere earlier in this thread someone talked to Clevo engineers and they said the cover is required to ensure proper air-flow into the bottom of the laptop.

here is the link to the download page you will find the download link under the end user agrement on this page Download - OCCT Website english
i downloaded it yesterday i works great and has ful aray of test
would up load my result but dont have my np back yet

As I was reading this, UPS rang doorbell.....installing windows7 now :D

Question Justin, I ordered it with thermal paste applied, looks like they gave me a extra tube and a cloth ?

So, even though I ordered with Raid0 across 3 drived, I decided, since this is gonna be my primary work system also, to do a Raid5, loose a little speed (15% or so off a Raid0) but have better data protection. Still should scream

Hello, I just made it to test my recently purchased x7200 all around - so I am willing to contribute to the temperatures discussion.

I would say, my CPU generally idles at:

    56'C
    54'C
    55'C
    56'C

Itense browsing (many tabs open) or Skype usage may bring it up to 61-62'C

After 5 minutes of Prime95 my CPU heats up to 86'C. After 10 minutes - up to 95'C.

Tested without Fn+1. Should I be worried?

What concerns me more, though is a faint, short yet pronounced high-pitched whine I hear within regular intervals. This short high-pitched signal reminds me of the good old capacitor whine - and always correlates to the moment when the disc activity diode is in its brightest phase.

I have an SSD installed - using it for the first time, so I am not sure how it is supposed to sound. Could it be that this sound is the normal sound an SSD makes when read?

UPDATE: The high-pitched noise is heard more regularly (once per 10 seconds or so) during sessions of prolonged ssd usage (e.g. downloading a large file). It happens regardless of whether the laptop is battery-powered or charging at the moment.

Just to contribute to the discussion, my temps while idle are at the 40's range, maximum 48 ºC, when using prime 95 i've reached 86º C. Not to worry, because there is no game that uses 100 % of cpu all the time, (when playing black ops for instance i reach 60's ºC). To lower temps when you're using your machines to browse the internet, or something that does not require much performance, use throttle stop, and select the smaller multiplier (12x in i7 950, my cpu). It's a shame that it's not possible to lower the VID on i7 cpu's, using software.

Is the sound through the speakers or from the laptop case? Normally an SSD has no moving parts, so you shouldn't have any sound. It's comparable to saying, I hear a sound when memory is addressed by any program.

But if you hear something through the speakers, then perhaps there is some kind of bleed/interference occurring from disk or controller to the audio system.

Are you saying you can change the voltage from some other way? AFAIK, the CPU voltage is set on these systems. For example, it's not an option on my system's BIOS.

Well it is somewhere in the upper right corner of the laptop - so I am not 100% sure if it comes from the speakers or not. When I mute the sound, though, the sound stays - so it is not, technically a sound produced by the speakers. I'd say it comes exactly from the spot where the blue disc activity LED is.

Yes, it is exactly what I thought - hence I wonder what this rythmical squealing might be...

Can anyone let me know what the quality of the webcam is? (resolution and frames/second) If someone knows, that would be great!
