Just wanted to reach out and say hello, I'm new here. I'm still waiting on my X7200 from Malibal. Purchased most of my new parts from Newegg. Had to wait for the base due to the demand for 485m SLI (Due in March 11, takes a while to get stuff in Iraq). I've read through lots of pages on this forum, You are all very knowledgeable. I look forward to contributing whatever I can to help, and appreciate in advance any advice you return.
First question, did anyone have any success transplanting a 120hz 17.3" FHD screen into their X7200? How did you overcome the IR Transmitter?
    Thanks again,
    ~Kennyroody

Hello, Aikimox - could you please state what were the temps your test machines reached? I have ordered my x7200 on the very day Harmattan did - and 4 minutes of Prime95 brings me to:
    88'C
    87'C
    84'C
    86'C

It seems very close to what Harmattan gets. Are those temps too high as well? What should the normal temps be?

    Thanks in advance

These numbers by themselves tell very little here. I need to know the CPU/GPU/s and the room temp to begin with. I'm trying to find a pattern here but more data is required. If someone could start a separate thread with a template (full system specs, thermal paste used, room temp, Prime95 temps, etc) we could then be able to analyze it.

It's hard to define normal temps for Prime95, an extreme burning scenario. But from what I've seen 85C should be the ok max for this system. Throttling begins at ~90C according to some reviews but I haven't seen it yet in our systems.
More important is the real life max temps while gaming for many hours.

I've started a new thread - please post temp results here. Will be very interesting to see if there is any corellation between configs, time shipped/ordered and high temps.

As for mine, I hit 96c on a core last night after just 30 min of BC2, so it's likely going back for repair/replacement (or refund, depending on my mood) asap.

Please post your new (hopefully improved) temp results. I'm likely sending mine in for RMA shortly and would like to see if they resolved your issue.

Did Sager happen to specifiy what the problem with the mobo was?

I got mine yesterday, and I am not having any heat problems yet, thank god!. I got one of the upgraded i7 960's since I ordered the 950, and I have sli 460's. My room temp is around 20 C my CPU temps have been idling around the high 40's to low 50's with gpu temps in the low 40's. Under light load I have been getting high 50's and using phototshop managed to get it to 60C for the cpu. Hope this helps.

Was wondering, just recieved my system a few days ago. Would it be safe to assume it has all the latest drivers on the CD (including the bios) ?

Well that's a good question. You see the problem is, the drivers to your cards are only available through clevo and clevo resellers. Nvidia hasn't post any drivers compatible with the 485m. As for the other drivers, i'm not sure. The bios, i'm currently running the 1.00.08, and it was obtained through my reseller. I would like to ask you something, could you do some benchmarks and post the results (3d mark 06/ vantage)? As your system is the absolute best, i'm very curious to know how well it performs. Thanks

after continuously using fn+1 i am getting around low-mid 70's for my processor (21 degree room, artic 7 paste etc...) which is good.
however just yesterday it shut off unexpectedly as if it were overheating, when it fact it was around 75 degrees.
I don't have any clue whats going on but i am getting money back while i can! let me know if you guys have any suggestions.

Maybe the graphic card was overheating?
Grantguy234, what did you do when the system was shutting down? Run a game or some other applications?

Great scores! What about the CPU load temps? 990X should be running a bit cooler, AFAIK (about 40W less than 980X at load). Would be nice if you could run Prime95 and post the temps.

OK here ya go, hope is this what ya wanted. if not, let me know.

The 1st image, prime is the "torture test"
The 2nd one prime_after_5 is temps after prime was off for 5 mins, cooled down.

    Also including prime95 benchmarks

also, fans never really kicked on high it seemed. I know when I press fn-1 I can manually turn the fans on high, they never got that loud during the run.....just a side note

and now a question.....what the hell was the keyboard desinger thinking.....stoopid FUNCTION key to numlock? ???

Awesome, thank you! Just for the record, what is the room temp and thermal paste used?

According to some early tests, 990X draws ~40-60W less than 980X at OCCT stress test and about 10-30W less in demanding games. I'll post some links later. Stay tuned.

Edit, here you go. Look at the second pic from the bottom. :)
If these tests are correct, we may even have some OC'ing headroom!

Hey all I have a few quick questions 4 you; Has anyone setup linux (ubuntu) on this machine successfully yet? If so which drivers were supported? Any information would be great.

Also this my first time owning a laptop and I was wondering how this baby will handle the dust? I haven't taken it apart yet to see the scope for cleaning/blowing. Was wondering if this is something that needs to be done very regularly? I usually clean my desktop fans once every couple of months or so. They clog up fast as I usually leave it on most of the time when I'm home. I am thinking the lappies would be even more of an issue as it's such a tight space...

    Thanks!

AIDA doesn't give a min/max during your run, but from first glance, I would say it is comparable to temps in my machine, and I *don't* believe I have a heat issue.

You should post these in the x7200 Temp comparison thread

Worse case... Assuming your machine came with Win7, Win7 has incorporated Virtual PC. If you cannot find the right drivers, you could always run any flavor of Linux within a VM.

They were comparing stock 980X, stock 990X, OC'ed 990X (4.7GHZ on air) and a couple of AMD's. What surprised me was that the stock 990X required 20-50W less than stock 980X across the board, even in games there was a difference of up to 50W.

I'm currently waiting for my laptop to ship but I was wondering if you are removing the battery when you use the laptop.

I'll be using it plugged-in 95% of the time and I don't want to kill of the battery, but I've also noticed that one of the "legs" is on the battery so if the battery is removed the laptop will woble. Is that correct?

I am extremely suspect of their findings then. The 2 cpus are even the same stepping......there just is not any margin for that sort of difference in power consumption

You will loose a foot peg. Also, according to the manual, "We recommend that you do not remove the battery."

Another thing the manual states is to run down the battery every 30 days or so when using it charged as it looks like you will be doing.

See the "Battery FAQ" in Ch 3 Sect 14 of the x7200 manual

yea the battery is screwed in. it's not like other laptops where you can just snap it out. it's a part of the hardware pretty much.

thanks for the info on running it down every 30 days, I'll be sure to do that.

Will the x7200 ever be available with a Sandy Bridge CPU or will Clevo have to redesign to accomodate a Sandy Bridge Chip? Any idea when a desktop CPU will be available in Clevo desktop replacement?

I was planning on getting an X7200 in April but today I read about the higher performance of Sandy Bridge and I might as well wait for it since my current computer is still doing an adequate job.

    Thanks!
