That is not Tom's Hardware's best article. They show the GTX 485m solution being cheaper because it is from AVA Direct, who prices their notebooks normally, not EuroCom who I have no idea how they are still in business.
They also sadly did all the tests with the horrible stock driver for the GTX 485m hardly doing them justice.

You do have to mod one, but it is easy and well worth it.
And I agree, the 485m pre-dates the 6970m by months.... -
I guess that's my point. A reviewer isn't going to go and find a hacked up driver for 485M, although they may mention it in the article. Instead, a reviewer is going to use what is available from the company. To me, it would be in nVidia's best interest to release a driver for the 485M.
-

Ya nvidia really needs too, especially since they are now getting bad press saying the 6970m is better and cost less
-
Yea TBH......the 6970 wasnt avaliable when I bought, but if it was, I probably would have re-thought what I have now.....Dont get me wrong, I like what I have, but...........
Just sayin -
-
Is there any use in someone modifying nvidia beta driver 270.51 for use with the 485m? Since nvidia still hasn't released a proper driver for the card yet, I mean.
-
To his credit, he changed the article to clarify the price difference between the machines vs the price difference between the cards.
Frankly, what is up with Eurocom? Do they have a captured market or something? How can they charge that premium? -
-
i buy from china factory for just $580 and $5 -

Jeffrey,
I think you may be confusing love4nVidia vs. availability of GPUs by what is posted in this thread. There is no bias! Let's take a look at history... x7200 was released in Sep '10. The 6970Ms were not available until Feb '11. So there are roughly 7 months of sales (5 uncontested) of nVidia x7200 vs. 2 months for ati x7200.
Given that, plus the fact previous ati offerings couldn't touch nvidia test scores until the 6970M CFs, there are just a lot more folks using the nVidia 400M series cards.
However, the 6970M is a game changer. Due to its great price/performance, there will be more and more 6970M x7200s sold, and when they find this thread, they'll be posting here too.
So go out, buy that 6970M CF x7200, and come join the masses. -
Is there a point to modding nvidia's beta (270.51) for the 485m? Wish I knew how to do it myself, but no big deal.
-
any diference for putting IC Diamond Thermal Compound - CPU + GPU and a normal one???? doese it make much difference? should i put if i use laptop for a long time during day?
-
-
and also :
- how is the cooling system? is the surface have temperature of at least 30 at full load or its very hot? (using 6970m AT Crossfire i guess may cuase more heat)
- how is the display quality overall compare to alienware m17x? i used to alienware m17x display, it feels like pretty good for me....i dun wan sager be lower than this? is it? can you provide me some infos?
-does keyboard include lights? good for working at a dark place?
-spec i want to order are 6970 crossfire and core i7 950 and 6gb of ram with bluray would that be enough for runnig all the games and upcoming ones with highest settings? i heard it can render metro 2033 faster than dual gtx 485m sli at DX 11 and very high at 1080? something around 35 FPS as I saw in notebook check! ITS IMPRESSIVE !
Thx for answering -
2. The stock display is adequete and the same panel on an Asus G73. Definitely a step down from an m17x's RGB display. I can't make heads or tails of your follow-on question here.
3. The keyboard is not back-lit. Not good, imo, for working in a dark room, especially since the key placement is quirky.
4. Yes, you should be able to run all games with dual 6970 at highest or near-highest settings. Guessing on "upcoming" games is a shot in the dark: it should run all games coming out this year great. -
No. I used it on my old D900F and it did not make a difference from the manufacturers thermal compound that was included with the laptop originally. Now if you buy a Xeon processor instead of a I7 (same socket size) then your laptop will run 20 to 30 degrees Celsius cooler (at least mine does). When I ran an I7 965 XE I ran about 60 DC without a high load, ran more like 80-85 DC under high load conditions. With my new Xeon 3680 (six core, 3.33 per core) I run about 30-40 DC. (DC= Degrees Celsius btw).
-
Sorry double post.
-
Yup. I will be modding the file to install it. If you want it email me.
-
Thinking about getting the x7200 with the 990x. Does the 990x run cooler than the rest of the chips offered ? Also, can the fans be set to high manually on the x7200 ?
-
Yes. The fans can be turned onto high by pressing Fn+1. I do not know about the i7 990x I heard they require a second AC-Adaptor if you buy dual video cards though.
-
Updated NVCV.INF file so you can install newer version of video driver (270.51). Unpack nvidia driver update wherever you feel like it and then past this file over the previous files.

Yes if you are doing some serious gaming or benching with the 990x and the dual 485M's the two PSU's and converter box may be needed. Same would go for the Dual AMD 6970.
If not the one PSU will work for you since it has a higher than 300w headroom.

Thanks for the answers guys....before i go order my last questions would be:
6970m is powerful as gtx 485 ??? At least like same row?? Would be any difference if i put highest cpu with 6970m in fps of game? -
Mine's up for sale in anyone's interested:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/not...6gb-128gb-ssd-500gb-dual-gtx-485s-extras.html
I'm just going to hold onto my m11x and move back to a water-cooled desktop, I think. I was downloading a game overnight and realized I want a completely silent machine. Plus, I never need to travel with the x7200 like I thought I would....
At Triangels: there are only a handful of games out there like Metro 2033 (more likely to come) where you'd notice a difference in fps at highest settings between the 6970 and 485. -
So the overall quality built is good? I wont have probles such as overheating ?? i use us three or four hours gaming per a day and working in word or surfing web and watching blurays....is tne screen quality good? How about the angels of view???
What is the exact weight?
Sager is same as deviltech? Long time ago i sAw the screen of seventeen inche one with core i7 desktop? Are they usee same display??? Any name for the display that sager uses in np7280???
Thx for answers -
I ordered the plain vanilla DVD, and it is tray based. -
That would be nice though...
-
Thanks. Yes, that would have been a nice touch.
-
My bad that is for the 270.51 driver. I was looking at my old driver number.

The standard S-1 NP7280 Configuration now has the Dual AMD Radeon HD 6970M in CrossfireX!
-
-
well i just got my sager 7280 today and i got to say is i love it not as powerful as the other users have them. But I personally love it (have to get used to the size of the screen for myself.) but I'm happy with it.
-

FWIW, mine was shipped in Oct. '10. It has a Hannstar HSD06A5.

It seems it. Its the same size and resolution. Is anyone taking advantage of the Nvidia 270.51 installation mod I posted? I installed it on my clevo x7200 and its working great! Passmark 11 score went up to 5500+.
-
5496 3dMarks in 3dmark11 basic edition. bout the same as the previous modded beta driver
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
It seems some drivers of late do well in 3DMark 11, but then lack a little in Vantage. Is this 270.51 driver doing well in both benches for you all?

Anyone here have a mirror for the latest BIOS and EC Firmware for the X7200?
http://forum.notebookreview.com/7329517-post1119.html
I can't access the Clevo FTP servers for some reason. -
Did you try the BIOS links from the x7200 Details/Driver Wiki? It takes a while, but eventually the Clevo site does send the file.
