fairly comfortably? assuming you're not 6'10" 260lbs lol.

will be curious to see how your benchmark scores hold up to the m18x; though it is only offering xfire 6970's

I am a lawyer so I needed something a bit more conservative. The only black rolling bag I found that would fit it is a Tumi. I tried the Swiss army Patriot and a samsonite, but it would not fit.

The Tumi is expensive, but it fits BOTH of my massive PSU, mouse, USB drive AND a Belkin nostromo gamepad. And it's a roller bag that you can carry on.

Quick question for anyone who may know. Is there any utility out there similar to speedfan (or speedfan itself) that would allow us to control the fan at all on the x7200?

Currently, I'm still unsatisfied by the way my CPU fan cycles on/off even in idle mode. There was mention that for those of us with i7 950 and i7 960's there was a BIOS in testing that would help alleviate this characteristic in the following thread:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...33-tempurature-analysis-comparison-x7200.html

However, we have not heard back from this investigation since those posts were made.

Does anybody have any additional information here?

I'm thinking that if I don't hear anything for another month, I'll have to upgrade the cpu to an i7 970 to gain some better thermal characteristics with the 32nm cpu.

I'm thinking of repasting my cpu ang gpus. Do the gpus use any thermal "tape" or should I just apply thermal paste on them and they'll be ok?

By thermal "tape" I mean those thick pieces of thermal compound that are like two face stickers.

I would check yours again - isnt their a new nvidia driver out since you initially ran that test? My scores are with the latest drivers, so I would bet yours catches up a bit.

I have to say, though - its nice to get a new computer. I still have a QX6700 and a 8800GTX in my desktop. This thing is faster.

EDIT: wwoods - if you happen to benchmark again - I would love to hear your max and idle temps during those three tests.

Ok, stupid question. I am considering just using this as my home desktop replacement for a while. I have always wanted a dual monitor setup. Will this computer run it? Would I have to disable Xfire, or just increase desktop resolution?

Temps are all right, Furmark with Extreme Burning mode runs them at 78° MAX even after 10 minutes.... if it reachs 78° the fan will spin a little more and it goes down to 77°... after what I´ve seen I can do that all day long ;-)

One problem is that the second card always idles at 250-900, that´s not all right. The first card idles at 100-150...
Do you have the same issues?

Did some Benches AND overclocking you can read here about it:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/564407-x7200-benchmark-thread.html

Does someone know if the heatsinks are only for the 6970´s or if they use the same for some nvidia cards?

I just have the GTX 460M... running this along side a 24" LCD using just the DVI port w/ out any problems. No real setup within the laptop. The hardest part was finding a laptop stand tall enough to elevate the x7200 so it and the LCD are positioned side by side.

so take a picture bro :)

according to my experment single adaptor do well even 400W load
but it will rapidly overheat......causing trip
so i managed to keep it cool and get stable 390~400W load :D

so not to cause overheating problems its better to by a 2nd adapter if you're overclocking and use only one for non OC systems, am i right?

cause from your 3dmark results i can see that you've squeezed a lot of juice from your laptop and it might need a spare adapter! anyways, what's your energy consumption under full load when OC'ed?

The wattmeter is taking the at-wall load, so your actual pull is likely 20-30% less: so, 300-340W is more accurate.

    20-30% less is HIGHLY unlikely....

I would guess these PSUs are 85-90% efficient as they are much simpler than a desktop PSU (pretty much a single DC voltage rail)

I'm not an engineer but, if simple notebook PSU's are much more efficient than desktop PSU's, why don't desktops use more efficient PSU's?

Desktop PSUs are much more complex than notebook PSUs - they also have much larger power designs meaning larger more expensive components are needed. And 85%-90% is not much more efficient, high quality desktop PSUs are in the same range. Additionally, there is about the same PCB space in a desktop PSU and a monster laptop PSU like the 300W of this laptop

scook8 is right, the desktop PSU's typically have a higher degree of complexity, while the laptop PSU's require a higher level of efficiency. To break it down, think of it this way:
    - Desktop PSU's have one input and multiple outputs: that's all those cables you plug into your motherboard, harddrives, fans, and sometimes video cards. Each of these outputs usually have different voltage levels, +/-12V, 5V, 3.3V, etc... Each channel (voltage channel) require their own converter(s) and when you add in more converters, the efficiency will drop.
    - Laptop PSU's have one input and one output. Its easier to make these more efficient due to this fact.

    np guys :)

one other thing to take into account is this: the laptops probably have some converters embedded into themselves (more than likely), where converting 120VAC or 220VAC to 12V, 5V, 3.3V is typically more work involved than converting 12V to 5V or 3.3V or whatever voltage is required at the component level :)

Sorry, just have some PSU background, gotta get it off my chest :)

That's ridiculous you need to wait so long considering mine shipped back in February 4 days after ordering. I'd cancel thje order and order with someone else who can actually produce a laptop. Who is the reseller?

On a completely different topic, how about the amazingly absurd non-sequitor italian.madness started this thread with? " I sell yachts." This is the most amazing opening line to any thread I've ever seen. I can't believe no one has mentioned this gem in hundreds of pages.

The matte screen is out of stock indefinitely. It says backordered but XoticPC will likely never get them in stock ever again.

The motherboard is supposedly getting redesigned to add in a common port that's missing, but the resellers are under a NDA and can't say anything about it. My guess is an Expresscard slot, but that's just a wild guess.

    Not in the US.

And that is just a guess and would not explain this huge delay it is just the only obvious thing I could think of

Sata 3 COULD be it but that would be tricky, they have to add the controller and then remap the sata ports to it, requires alot of redesign of the board circuitry

Actually, I've been waiting a lot longer than you think. I placed the order on 3/18 and I'm still waiting.

Mentioning the reseller won't matter much because the 7280's being held up on Clevo/Sager's side, so it's affecting all the resellers. However, to my knowledge, not one reseller has updated their website to reflect the new 'backorder' date of early to mid June. Feel free to prove me wrong though.
