    Hi all,

My Malibal Lotus P151HM1 won't turn on. I had it off the charger and it was working fine, then the battery was getting low so I closed the laptop and went to connect it to the charger a few minutes later, but when I opened it and pressed the power button nothing happened. The AC adapter makes a slight humming noise when connected to both the wall outlet and the laptop so there is a current running through it, but it's as if the laptop isn't receiving any power.

Does anyone know if this is a common problem or any steps I can take to fix the laptop? I emailed Malibal support, but they haven't gotten back to me. D:

    Thanks

Try unplugging and taking out the battery. Push the power button 10 or so times then replug it back in and see if it starts up.

Pretty sure mine only has three.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...vo-p151hm1-owners-lounge-368.html#post7785660 That's how I routed it

I had to steal one from the wifi card and route it to the wwan slot.(well not really steal, I have the 6230)

Then I also just put a short antenna for the auxillery antenna.

I want to put this in the lcd and remove the short antenna. (It's literally a 2inch antenna over the wwan card)

I don't see in the manual where opening the lcd is, I mean I could just go in blindly.

I don't have the HM service manual handy, but I believe that there might be room in there, they are all "above" the LCD so if you take the lcd bezel off (4 screws) then you'll be able to see if there is room, will take like 5 minutes, just don't lose the rubber screw covers on the LCD bezel.

If you are looking at the LCD, those 4 little rubber nubbies on the screen bezel cover screws, remove them and unscrew the 4 screws then the bezel snaps off (be nice to it)

They are kind of glued in (think double sided tape) yes they come out and go back in, if you mess up the glue a TINY (we use a small pin) dab of good old elmers white glue will keep them in place.

I have a quick question about the GPU of the Sager NP8130.

It came with a gtx560m when I purchased it. That GPU has now failed and I am looking to replace it. I've looked around the internet and am still not sure if the GPU is "upgrade-able" or not (I would like to just replace it with a new 560m). Even if it is, I do not know the replacement process or if the 560m is even available for me to purchase as a component. Could anyone point me in the right direction?

    Thanks.

    You can put a 680m, and a 670m.

You'll need the 180watt psu for the 680m or 670m.

660m probably works, but not 100% sure.

I have found the process for removing & replacing the gpu in my notebook's documentation. However, I saw nothing about changing the power supply. I also am having trouble figuring out a good source to purchase notebook gpus. Any help would be much appreciated, thank you.

You can buy the gpus from ebay, or you can ask your reseller if you can buy them.

I recommend ebay though, far cheaper.

Also I posted a power supply that works with our laptops and it's much cheaper than the one from sager. ~40 dollars and it's 180watts. It's the same size too, and the cables are actually thicker.

Ran furmark and intel burn test at the same time, it's rock solid.

I have a quick question about upgrade the optical drive to a SSD. If I have a standard HDD in the main HD bay and the DVD player in the 2nd bay, which one should I move to put a SSD in? I read someone, and I can't find it now, that the bay the HDD in is SATA III and the bay the optical drive is in is SATA II. If that's true, would it be worth it to move the HDD to the optical bay, and put the SSD in the first bay to take advantage of SATA III?

    Thanks in advance!

You would definitely want to move the HDD to the ODD bay and the SSD in the primary. ODD drives don't typically require that much of bandwidth so they're designed with Sata II most of the time. Keep in mind that you'll need to have the ODD HDD caddy to have it fit.

Thanks for the quick response as always Derek.

You had also responded to a problem I had a while ago with short stutters while playing games and streaming movies. If you run into anyone else with this problem, I found the solution: It was McAfee NetGuard causing the problems. I disabled it a while ago and have not seen any stutters since.

    Thanks again.

Been a long time since i've been here.. but thats just because my NP8130 was working flawlessly.. until now..

Problem 1) Camera just died, any suggestions what i should do for that? I dont want to send it back and be without a laptop for weeks. do I have any other option?

Problem 2) My GPU heats up inordinately, for no reason. Right now all I'm doing is posting online and its at 89C!! It heats up way too much than it should, even playing Fifa13 heats it up enough to drop frames when i've turned of Antialiasing and capped fps to 60. Any suggestion/ ideas what might be going wrong?

I've been seening these issues since abt a month or so but was travelling so had no time to delve on it. I've bought my np8130 in April 2011 so its the original config. I7-2630, 8gb, 460M

Have you looked inside the system to see if any dust accumulation occured. That's something pretty common while travelling, the system just needs cleaned and causes the higher temps. With travelling it's also possible the camera connector became disconnected and why that wouldn't work. Have check on this as well?

Thanks for the quick reply Derek, A quick search seems to point towards cleaning. I've been meaning to clean it but just been procrastinating it. I plan to try that tonight using this video as a reference. Any suggestions which thermal paste i should use if I need to change it?

Also any guidance (video or documentation) on checking the camera connector?

    thanks

Cleaning will definitely be a good choice to do. It doesn't take long and is most likely the cause. Definitely let us know the results.

For the thermal compound, the industry standard tends to be IC diamond, but that's like saying everyone's favorite candy is a snickers bar (Snickers should be your favorite btw). Lots of people have success with alternatives and I personally have used Arctic Silver on my previous builds.

For the Webcam connection, I'm going to have to defer. I never actually saw one of these apart in the back and I'm having trouble locating a teardown reference to link you. I'll edit my post if I'm able to find one, but I'm sure I'll be beat to it.

Opened it up and sure enough found a solid layer of dirt on the cpu heatsink. Didn't pull out the gpu since i dont have the replacement thermal paste. Would it be fine to put the gpu without a thermal paste? CPU's paste was pretty much done for.. Using the IC Diamond on both of them would be ok right? or do we have separate pastes for cpu and gpu?

PS: Snickers has eggs, i dont eat eggs, either way i'm not to big on peanuts + chocolate, more of a purist.. ;-)

lol, thanks man.. it was fn+f10!! <facepalm>

You'll definitely not want to use it without reapplying the paste. If it's looking like it's dry and just not like paste anymore, then you'll definitely want to clean it off with some high purity isopropyl alcohol and reapply some compound on there. You'll be safe using the same stuff on both CPU and GPU.

You should upgrade to the 180w psu and get a 7970m or 680m.

I need help to raise my gpu voltage. Getting freezes in game but my voltage option is locked for my card GTX 560m. raising it slightly seems to fix crashes for the rest.
    Any ideas from anyone ?

Would flashing a MSI unlocked bios GTX 560m work for my card ?

Sorry, Missed the questions originally. Either one would work, IC Diamond tends to be the general suggestion but I've used AS5 in the past and had great luck with it.

So the things on those links are the correct products then.. thanks mate..

Edit: I applied the paste (finally) and it has worked wonders. I haven't had much time to test it thoroughly but 2-3 hrs of FIFA 13 which previously was not possible (it shut down from overheating arnd the 3rd match) yielded a max of 68 Celsius. I attribute most of the GPU overheating to the thick wad of dust i removed while i was operating on the system but by and large i am very satisfied by the performance of the system since applying the paste. Highly recommend it, also it is very very simple to do. Here is the video on changing/cleaning the laptop.

Thanks Derek for all your help.

Next up for me update BIOS..

    Hi experts,

I have an 8130 with gtx 560M in it. I've seen statements here that you can upgrade the 8130 to the gtx 670M using a 180w power supply. I found a source offering a gtx 670MX as their gtx 670M is out of stock. I've seen a few articles stating the gtx 670MX has a 75 W TDP, which seems to be the key to upgrading.

Does anybody have experience with upgrading the 8130 to a gtx 670MX?

    Many Thx!!!

My np8130 wont start when i press the power button. It only lights the status light for bluetooth, then after 3 secs it will be off again. I've tried turning it on like 30 times, and 1 was able to get to the startup screen but there was a weird sound idk where was it coming from. Then after 5 secs, laptop is off again. Its like i pulled the plug of the laptop, just turns off like that. I've had this laptop for a year now, bought last dec 2011 and i havent had this problem since. please help me! :(

Thats a tough one wihtout any error codes.
Try removing the battery and unplugging it. Push the power button 10 or so times then put plug it back in to see if it will start.
If no luck then maybe the RAM. If comfortable take out all stick in there then put one back in to see if it will start.

So, I bought a NP8130 from xoticpc around June of 2011. It lasted a good year until 3 weeks ago, while I was playing Planetside 2, it suddenly shut off without warning. I tried to turn it on again and nothing would work; no light indicators present when PSU or battery was connected. Every time I would connect the PSU, its LED indicators would shut off as if it shorted once connected to the NP8130 mobo.

So I sent it to sager for RMA and they have decided that a motherboard replacement for $520 is the only way of fixing it... and 1 year parts warranty is out...

So, is this a common thing to happen to laptops - i.e. failure under 2 years? Does anyone recognize the problem I have and/or have any cheaper alternative fixes?

    Thanks and happy holidays!

Sager laptops tend to be the most reliable around. I myself having previously been, don't throw stones at me, an HP and Dell customer before becoming enlightened can vouch that their (Sager) build quality is far superior. We often have people telling us that they're going onto 5 or more years of using their laptops.

With laptop parts pricing that tends to rise instead of drop as the model is replaced, it's not entirely unthinkable that the cost is that much and Sager is pretty honest about pricing. If you wanted to contact our service team to see if we can arrange something different, feel free to shoot them an RMA Request form and they can take a look into it for you.

Fair enough; it is a nice laptop compared to many others I've seen but i'm just a bit irritated at how short mine lived. Does any P150HM Clevo motherboard work on the np8130? I found a listing for a $200 CLEVO P150hm replacement logic board and since warranty is already gone, I could do parts and labor myself.

That should work and as long as you were willing to do the labor, probably a cheaper alternative. Just make sure to do your research on the seller and check their reliability. There are a number of defective units sold "as is" and you have no way of telling the quality until it arrives.

I went the other day to a laptop repair shop and explained what happened, but while i was talking to repair guy, the laptop made a successful startup and there was a system repair thing and i confirmed it. then after a few minutes, the laptop was working fine again. i went back home and everything was fine again. until later this afternoon, my laptop wont start again. same problem, just bluetooth led light then after 5 secs if off again.

I tried your suggestion, removed all 3 4gb memory and tried one by one if it'll work. but no luck, still having the same problem. can this be my mobo? please help :(

Sounds like its not the RAM, the behavior does sound like a motherboard issue but without being able to get hands on it and test it its hard to say. Since it did work then stopped working it could also be a loose connection somewhere. I'd take it apart and remove and reinstalling any cables and hardware you're comfortable doing so to. While it may look properly connected it could be just loose enough to cause problems.

After i put all the ram back, laptop still wasnt working. but after like 30-45 mins. i tried to turn it on again, and it worked. i didnt do anything, just left it on my desk and thats it. Just like what happened when i went to the repair shop, just randomly works that i dont hav a clue how. I really hope its just loose cables and not the motherboard. :| i'll try to do that, though ill find someone who knows how to reconnect cables properly. are there any softwares that i can use to know if my motherboard really got problems?

i really appreciate your replies, thank you!

Glad to hear its working again. Recently I had a friend with similar issues and it ended up being a bad connection where the AC Adapter hooks in. Because of this the battery wasnt charging and if the cable wasnt just right it would only turn on for a few seconds from what ever battery juice was left. I guess the best way to test this is to see what your battery charge is at. If its 100% or close it probably wouldnt be it. If its low then wiggle the AC Adapter cable to see if it works better. If thats it then you'll need a replacement AC Adapter.

I dont think its about the AC Adapter because i can see that my battery is charging when its plugged in, and laptop still works fine even on battery and plugged in with out battery. But it seems like the problem is about the power, and what i dont get is how it worked when i just left it on my desk without doing anything. i'll try too see if there are loose cable connections. can you give me a list of which cables should i check first? thanks!

    Hi,

Not sure you're having the same issue I did, but I had something similar happen to me with Windows 7, and for some reason or another, it seemed to be a bootloader issue (not hardware). Reinstalling the OS (as painful as that is) solved the issue for a time. It happened to me twice in about 1 1/2 years. Since installing Win8, that issue has not reappeared though, so...

I have my laptop working fine again, idk how but i havent had a problem for 3 weeks now. i am very thankful to those who replied and helped me! :)

i hav a new problem, but not related to my first issue. I accidentally spilled pepsi on my touch pad and fingerprint sensor (i didnt know that the pepsi would burst out right after i open it), which i thought wouldn't do any harm as it just a little amount. but after i wiped and dried my laptop, the fingerprint sensor stopped working. I tried to restart but still nothing happens, and looked at device manager to see if it detects the hardware. i found out that its not there, so i knew that this is a hardware problem. any suggestion on what should i do to make it work again? i just know how to open my laptop to get under the keyboards, but the sensor is not there. help please!
