The CPU-Z is not wrong. As many people said (me included) the P150HM and P151HM is identical except the power brick.

So it is not surprising at all to see both models have the same motherboard.

But if CPU-Z distinguishes between them (even if physically we know that they're exactly the same) this is because of.....a different bios?

The CPU-Z reads motherboard information and the laptop model from different location in the BIOS.

I have the same problem with auto downclocking. The thing is that i have used for more than 2 months 800/1600/1400 without any kind of problem. Crysis 2 was the game that caused the first problems to my overclocked card, sometimes downclocking to stock settings, sometimes much lower (2d clocking?). Is this normal?

How happy is everyone with the 460M GTX?
I've priced a similarly spec'd Sager 8150 with a Radeon HD6970 and it's about $350 more -trying to decide if it's worth it...

    Hello,
I just bought Sager NP8130 and received it Friday.
I ran into an issue and I am not sure what is causing it though i got it fixed for now.
I hibernated my laptop and when i turned it on, i tried to change the brightness
I couldn't do it so I restarted the laptop because the brightness issue used to happen to me with my old laptop. However, when the i got to the log in page I entered my username and password the whole screen was black and did not get me to my desktop.
Does anyone know why that happened
It's all ok now though, I went to safe mode and made a system restore and it's working fine again.

Have fun with this amazing laptop :).

Hey guys, I just received my Sager NP8130 from the retailer Aikimox on this forum ( http://www.fortnaxnotebooks.com)

Here are my 3DMark11 and Vantage Scores after playing awhile with the system.

Drivers are 270.51. I'm quite happy with my purchase. I did have some regrets about not getting the NP8150 and a 6970M but the saved money will goto purchasing a badly needed SSD drive and a Clevo optical bay caddy for the storage drive. From people's scores and benches, an overclocked 460M looks to be about equivalent to a desktop HD 5830 which isn't too bad at all. With the 1920x1080 resolution and pixel density of the displays, AA is generally not needed in games. I do have a dead pixel or blemish near the middle the screen which is irritating but can be dealt with later.

Maybe in the future, when a better performing but lower power consumption GPU comes out, we can swap our GPUs without needing a new power brick.

The other minor issue is that the letter "D" marking on the keyboard is starting to come off! :(

Any recommendations on what SSD to use? I am leaning towards the Crucial C300 128GB.

Did anybody figure out a good fan control software for the GTX 460M in these notebooks?

The fan profile starting and stopping abruptly when I am in idle mode is quite annoying. I think it could do to be a little quieter when only doing 51MHz @ 0.82V

Nvidia Inspector's fan control is greyed out for me.

    Hi,

Did you order your laptop to be shipped to Canada? (I'm asking since Fortnax is a canadian reseller) If it was, then how long did it take after you placed your order? (like after you paid online/whatever, howlong did it take for the laptop to arrive at your door steps)?

    Thanks

How did you install this driver? When I try to install it is says "cant find compatible graphics hardware" or something close to that. Is it even possible to upgrade the graphics driver without using the OEM drivers? If not, I hope Sager will soon release their own updated drivers to compare with the Nvidia 270.51 version.

Geez, the automatic forum redirect for retailer websites is funny, it just auto filled it in with a bunch of adwords to take advantage of search engines. Same thing happened when I tried to type the nvidia address.

The notebook did ship directly from Sager in California to my home address in Canada even though I ordered through Fortnax.

Your experience will probably be different from mine since I first inquired and ordered around 2.5 weeks ago but there were delays due to the Sandy Bridge recall. The notebook shipped from California one week ago and I got it this Friday.

Refer to this thread on how to install these drivers. Yes it is possible without OEM drivers and does not affect the laptop in any way at all.

You can't use the ones from nvidia's website, you have to use the ones from www.laptopvideo2go.com

I just downloaded and use it right from the site and did not even have to touch any INFs.

Yes, use laptopvideo2go drivers and they'll install right away, no issues.
I haven't had any issues with my card crashing and returning to standard clocks, and I've played Crysis for at least an hour more than once, but not Crysis 2 - so maybe it's something to do with that. I actually wouldn't be surprised if it's just the driver crashing due to something other than the OC, but we'd need more data to conclude that.

And to answer someone's question earlier, yes, I'm happy with the 460M for anything I can imagine. With that $350, you could probably come close to buying a new card in 2 years time anyways.

That's assuming that in 2 years, there will still be a decent upgrade option for this notebook that doesn't necessitate the 8150's power brick.

Anybody found an app that can control the fan on the 460M yet? I hate how it spins up and down to what seems like max speed without any gradual change everytime it is around 38° C then shuts off again. Basically it is spinning to max every minute or so and shutting off. It is quite annoying!

Thanks, I've tried Speedfan but it seems to be having trouble detecting anything on this system. Most of the fields are blank. I can't see anywhere to control GPU fan speed.

Under configuration, the entire FAN section is just blank.

Hi guys, I have two questions. My np8130 is arriving this week and I need to transfer like 40 gigs of files from my old laptop. The problem is that I dont have an external hard drive or something to transfer the files. Could I take the hard drive from my old laptop (HP pavilion dv2000) and put it in the np8130 while the other one is still there. Can I have two hard drives at the same time so I can transfer the files?

Next question is... Why is everyone so crazy about the intel 6230 card? I got the stock one and now I feel like Im missing out. Is it supposed to get faster download speeds or what exactly are its benefits?

    Thank you!

Unless you bought the optical optical drive HDD caddy when you purchased the system, no. The NP8130 only has one harddrive bay. External harddrives are extremely cheap. Just get an empty enclosure for notebook HDDs. They are like under $10. The other option is to have both computers on the same network and enable file sharing or just have the files in the shared folder.

I'd also like to hear about the Intel 6230. I opted for the stock one.

You'll need an ethernet crossover cable which is different from a normal ethernet cable in that some of the wires are swapped. That will enable one ethernet port to talk to the other ethernet port. Then you still need to setup file sharing and networking which will be a hassle if your operating systems are different or you are not good at debugging network issues.

Easiest way is to do it over your existing wireless network or connect both laptops to your router via regular ethernet cables.

There is no magic cable direct data transfer option that you could easily find. Some computers and special models do have USB cables that can transfer files in this way but they are not common. The simplest way is to take out the harddrive and goto your local store and buy a SATA to USB or SATA to firewire or SATA or eSata adapter or even an old enclosure or adapter for notebook PATA if your drive is REALLY old.

yes. connect them to the same network and enable file sharing. if your old laptop has bluetooth then you can also use this to transfer the files.

Hey guys, not completely sure if this is the right place for this question. I'm looking to buy an 8130 so I thought it would be acceptable.

After a few weeks of searching, this is the laptop I've decided on. The only problem is that I live in New Zealand.
I've been looking at the resellers, Xoticpc ect.

QUESTION. Which is the cheapest and most reliable reseller ect with regards of shipping to New Zealand.
Has anyone shipped one to nz before that might be able to help me out?

    Thanks

I just ordered mine from LPC-Digital, it seemed a little cheaper than most, with free shipping in US. You could find a decent shipping price to NZ from a mail forwarding company in the States, which could send it to you when they receive it from the reseller. Or you could get it sent to you directly... good luck!

Viking's biggest gripes are high cost per density and the fact that he didn't care much about his computer booting faster or programs starting and responding quicker. If you put two drives in your system the entire size/price point becomes moot. In truth if you are happy with the performance of your computer then you don't need an SSD or any other upgrade for that matter.

The NP8130 is already a very nice computer. It has plenty of ram, a fast processor and a high performance graphics card. If you are looking to upgrade it further an SSD is your best bet. You could always replace the cpu, gpu or add more ram but in the end many of those upgrades are going to be more expensive than a SSD and have limited rewards. It all depends on what sort of usage model you are looking at. If you aren't happy with current game framerates then you probably should look at swapping the power supply and getting a Nvidia 485m. If you crunch numbers, do scientific calculations or compute intense media editing then a faster CPU might help. I'm under the impression that 8gb of ram is plenty. I have never owned a computer with more than 4gb and can't possibly imagine what you would want more for outside of visualization and RAM disks. Ram disks seem like more of a hobby than a practical investment, given their instability and difficult setup.
