Lol, I'm obsessed about my laptop, in all of it's aspects.
But since this is my first high-end computer, I want to make sure that I protect my investment. My precious!
No, it doesn't get that hot, and I'm glad it doesn't. No, I live in Massachusetts and I keep my computer in an air-conditioned (most of the time anyways) room. I think the highest my GPU has hit so far is 78C (hardly worry-worthy, I know, I know).
Thanks for giving me a dose of reality, lol. I mean that sincerely.

Lol when my friends came over, we moved this comp to a table with a table cloth and the GPU hit 90. The max temp for the 560m is 99, still freaked out a bit. Learning process

LOL yeah, the feet are really short on this thing. I wish it came with pop up stands in the back like keyboards.
Never, ever use it on any surface that isn't a hard, flat surface. Anything like cloth or carpet that could get in the way of the air intakes will quickly overheat it.
Get a notebook cooler if neccessary to raise it. -
I will, it obviously wasnt the comps fault.

Another happy owner of p151hm1 "transformed" to p150hm with 6970m and 180W psu. Everything works great till now. Some photos here.

Are the new heatsinks really that different from the stock ones we have? Was it neccessary to switch them? -
Mr_Mysterious Like...duuuuuude
More importantly, how did you install the graphics card? This would probably save me a bit of money of shipping it to XoticPC because I don't quite trust myself with something so important.
Mr. Mysterious -
Anthony@MALIBAL Company Representative
MXM cards are pretty easy to install. You just remove the 7 heatsink screws, pull out the heatsink, remove the 2 screws holding the MXM card in, then pull out out the MXM GPU. Do everything in reverse (plus add new paste to the new card) and you're done. If you're worried about breaking it though, having your reseller do it is probably the safer bet. -
Anthony@MALIBAL Company Representative
Yes, the different cards don't have the same heatsinks. The stock one won't fit the new cards correctly for most upgrades. -
Mr_Mysterious Like...duuuuuude
Yeah, I hope Xotic will put the new card (GTX 580M) in my PC for me when I send it to them. Obviously I'll pay for the card, the AC adapter and the installation, though I can't see them refusing to do so unless it violates warranty.
How much would you charge someone to install a GPU in the machine, Malibal? Just out of curiosity.
Mr. Mysterious -
Well, yes. Now that i think about it, it's very easy, but first time is always difficult, whatever you do. I had to watch a video on youtube and ask a friend some questions first. Observing the new card and heatsink in their box, helped me a lot. Then i took out the 460m. The rest was easy, i just did everything in reverse, as mentioned above.
-
Aren't mxm gpus redic expensive though?
-
Mr_Mysterious Like...duuuuuude
Yeah they are. A 6970M with the heatsink shipped is $470.
Mr. Mysterious -
I would rather just save up for another laptop personally.
-
The standard labor rate for something like that is $50-80.
-
Mr_Mysterious Like...duuuuuude
So just to calculate out of curiosity:
6970M w/ Heatsink $470
180W AC Adapter $ 95
Labor $ 80
Shipping $ 65
Total $710
Ouch.
Mr. Mysterious -
Well, actually - under our warranty, if a customer is upgrading a part, the labor is FREE. So you could remove that $80. Also, you will still own your 460M card, which you can sell to recoup some of that cost.
-
Mr_Mysterious Like...duuuuuude
So optimistically....
Total $710
GTX 460M -$200
Labor -$80
Total $ 430

Nobody is going to want to buy a 460M though. It's the base config and not really in demand. -
well if say someone has a laptop, like a m15x with the 260m, they might want to get that to upgrade it.
-
I thought 260m were MXM 2.0? 460m is 3b?
-
You are right my mistake.
But if someone has a 460m that dies, you could get another one. -
actually the 560m is 2.0 so i would presume the 460m is as well. Check this out:

I'm relatively sure and confident that there will be a market out there for the 460M. Just not for enthusiasts because the 460M (which is a very powerful GPU btw) is "not strong enough" for those who want the bleeding edge in mobile graphics cards.
But for the everyday user? Sure, it's perfect for some of them. Especially those looking for deals.
Mr. Mysterious -
Hey guys I broke my screen - whats the possibility of buying this screen somewhere else and replacing it myself?
-
Pretty good. If you want to PM me I can get you a price on the V1 screen to go back in them, its a pretty easy swap. Just some screws to keep track of.
-
Mysterious, Why are you switching to the 560 already? Did you get a cost estimate?
-
does anyone know the parts number for the standard screen on the np8130?
-
His posts are about the 6970m not the 560m I believe.

You are mistaken. The picture you posted is for pcie version. This is not the same as mxm. read up on mxm on wikipedia or mxm-upgrade.com

Xoticpc y u do this to me
Ordered 6/2, it's 6/13, y u no stage 3 me ;'(
Malibu i am sure wuda been faster, but they have no sexy youtube videos of the np8130 so i never heard about them. -
I ordered mine on 5/25 and I hit phase 3 on 6/6. Waiting is so hard.
-
Ordered 5/19. Phase 3 on 6/8. I too know the pain of waiting. What makes it worse is that my copy of The Witcher 2 is sitting on my shelf taunting me.
-
Yeah and I feel like I wasted dosh, 48$ on UPS 3 day shipping when compared to the whole time, 3 days is like nothing.
Also why is the shipping so expensive? USPS is 64$, like, how do they calculate the prices? I also bet shipping is so expensive because they shipped mine to Nebraska to avoid California tax, I'd rather support my state then pay more for them to waste some gas... well to an extent, if they are quick about wasting gas, then I am with that <3
BUT THEY ARENT
HURRY UP XOTIC -
Lol, mine took a week to be built and to get to me. Sucks that everyone has been having to wait so long.
-
I understand the wait game. I had to wait about a month to get mine, and then it unfortunately had problems and I sent it back 2 weeks later for an exchange. It took about 2 more weeks to isolate the issue and resolve it. (which wasn't so bad as I ended up getting an exchange with a brand new unit)
UPS is suppose to deliver tomorrow. But UGH... UPS kills me. The package was literally 30 minutes away from me, but UPS does NOT deliver early, so they shipped it further away and now it's on it's way back. -
That's my biggest fear. I'm fine with waiting a month to get a new laptop as long as it's in perfect working condition when it gets here.

I don't know why are you confident of that. A market implies a demand. I see no demand for 460Ms because the available notebooks that are actually compatible with it and have the neccessary hardware to use it, but were originally equipped with a less powerful card is extremely small. This is not a desktop graphics card, other notebooks cannot swap it in like that. Less than a handful of notebooks can use a 460M as an "upgrade". Therefore, there are very few users that would ever want one.
The GTX 460M is MXM 3.0 type B.
The only notebooks I know that are compatible are the Clevo X7200, X8100, W880CU and the W860CU. Many of those already come with more powerful configurations than the 460M in the first place. -
Mr_Mysterious Like...duuuuuude
Well maybe there is someone out there who wants to save some money on a graphics card....thank you eBay!
And ES, come on, I'm trying to be optimistic here!
Mr. Mysterious -
If someones 460m died, they could buy one. Instead of a new laptop.

Mr. Mysterious -
Just got my NP8130 a couple days ago. Ordered on 5/30 from Xotic, received it on 6/10.
15.6" 1920x1080 Matte
2nd Gen i7-2630QM
nVidia GeForce GTX 560M
8GB 1333MHz DDR3
160GB SSD(exact model in my profile)
I have benchmarks on stock GPU clocks and max(so far) GPU clocks if anybody is interested. Will also do a fraps run through just about any game if you'd like.
So far it's running like a champ. Stuck Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on it and installed a few games. Everything is going smoothly so far. Love it.
Also, pictures of the laptop don't do it justice at all. The finish is amazing and it looks extremely nice.
* Don't order the "Black Business Case" with it. I ordered it and the laptop doesn't fit in it. Well, it does fit, however it takes the space reserved for the adapter also.
* Had trouble getting the video card drivers. They have it locked down so you can't install drivers directly from the nVidia site, they needed to be downloaded from the manufacturer's site. Went to Sager's site and those didn't work either. Got them off Clevo's site and they worked fine. Updated to the most recent FW 275.33 from laptopvideo2go. So, maybe just skip straight to the last step and download your drivers directly from laptopvideo2go. -
Anthony@MALIBAL Company Representative
The current Nvidia drivers don't support the 560m without modded INF's, but they'll add support in one of the upcoming releases. Nvidia tends to lag behind OEM's in the initial release, but then handles them fine once they release the new set (they did the same for the 485m as well). The 560m is still essentially brand new, so it'll take just a bit yet
The drivers it ships with should be the newest officially supported ones.
-
Ah, that makes sense. This is actually my first gaming notebook so I still have quite a bit to learn.
The drivers did require a modified inf, but they seem to be working great so far
