So will the 560m run better with the 275 drivers? Will there be bugs? I won't have access to internet for a while so should I try to get the 275 drivers or stay with the oem drivers?

I've been running the 275 drivers for about 48 hours now and haven't noticed any bugs at all.

Successfully able to overclock my GPU to 910\1820 just fine. (stock 775\1550)

If the drivers aren't officially supported, you're better with the stock drivers. Beta or modded drivers may cause unforeseen issues. You won't miss out running the older drivers until the 560m has new WHQL drivers out :)

So I just checked out Nvidia's site and they have 275.33WHQL drivers. Are you using these Nascentes?

So what exactly is the difference or advantage of using the laptopvideo2go drivers over the Nvidia drivers? As you can see the 560m is supported now. [IMG]

Well, there isn't a significant difference. As with most driver updates.

I personally couldn't drivers directly from nVidia to install on my machine. I could only get OEM ones from the Clevo site. CLEVO - Download

There, the most recent driver available is the 267. They are perfectly find, I am just one of those people that likes to have THE most recent updates possible.

If you can get that driver from the nVidia site to work for you then more power to you :D

    I'll be a little jealous actually. :p

Just different methods to a similar end. You should be just fine either way and there is really no benefit to either way assuming the nVidia site works for you.

Give me a day or so and I'll see what I can do :)

Well if you had the GTX460M, I'd have asked you what settings you would be able to run The Witcher 2 on :p

I'm looking for 30+ FPS, consistently.

    Good morning everyone! :)

I've installed all of my latest games that I had just bought on this machine but I can't start playing because of work, and because I'm sore from it, lol. It's a physical job.

But I am interested in those who have bought the game "The Witcher 2", because I want to ask you guys:

What settings do you play on? Please include what you think at the FPS as well, this will give me an idea on how fluid everything is.

    ^^Nice desktop!

So, I'm trying to decide if I want to overclock my 560m when I get it. Is there a way to overclock it so that it will not use more power when it's idle/getting very little use? I need the battery life, so any difference over like 5 minutes would make it a no-go for me.

Overclocking has no effect on the lower power states, only the highest one. Your computer will never go into that when idling or even on battery power. The computer has to be physically plugged in for the GPU to actually work at full speed, even without overclocking. Without AC power, the GPU can only run at low speed because the battery cannot provide enough power alone.

That is a bit hotter than mine... Mine is usually around 39 degrees when idle or surfing the web...

And I also need a little help. My screen brightness does not change no matter what I do. Power saver doesn't change it like it used to and even if I manually turn the knob up, it does nothing. When I use the fn F8 and F9 keys the blue bar does not move and sits in the middle. Any help??

You have a knob? What power management software did you install? It's probably conflicting with the stock driver.

Mine is 46° C right now. It usually idles in the 40s but I might have a different fan EC than you. What is your EC version? My room temperature is 27° C already though! What was your temp before AS5?

I meant like the Screen brightness meter when you click on the battery in the bottom right and click, "adjust screen brightness". I do not have any power management software...

Also, what does the 3d vision thing do? Do I need it?

Have you rebooted your system? Is it still stuck?

You don't need 3D Vision. That's for Nvidia's 3D system for which you need a 3D capable stereoscopic display (120Hz) and Nvidia 3D goggles. The 560M couldn't handle 3D anyway unless at low resolutions.

If you have a 3D TV or 3D external monitor or something though, you could use it.

    A question of GPU temps.

I hit 80C playing Trine today. The room I was in may have been a tiny bit warmer than usual, but not that much warmer. I don't think I'd seen higher than 74C in the past...

Is 80C worthy of concern? I don't know how long it was there, since I only noted later that my temp monitor logged that as the highest recorded temp -- the trends had rolled out of the history by then.

I'm kind of paranoid about temps since my last laptop died shortly after I started noticing the GPU hitting 90C often -- as tragic as that was (especially being without one for a year due to lack of funding) it was nowhere near as nice as my 8130, and I really don't want to realize (again) that I had indication of a problem that could possibly have been corrected.

The max temp I got on the GPU with stock clocks was 68C - 70C, today I overclocked it and played for over an hour, the max temp was 78C (800/1600/1400).

Lucky you! When did you place your order? I'd like to get a feel of when I should expect my order to ship as I had placed an order on 6/10. I opted out on any of the painting or extra finishes to the laptop in order to save $ and time.

80C isn't a concern, but if you start going north of 95C you'd probably want to contact your reseller. 80c is still within the normal range :)

Does your notebook have room to breathe underneath? The stock rubber feet are pretty short. Elevating the unit just an inch helps tremendously.

How would you recommend elevating it about an inch without a cooler? I normally go to 79-80 in about 30 min of gaming and then I usually turn my fans on turbo.

Also still can't fix the screen brightness problem, anyone have any ideas?

Yep, raising the back would help a bit as the intakes for the fans are on the bottom. The more airflow the better.

As for brightness, try reinstalling the hotkey drivers and your video drivers. this has fixed the issue for others.

Reinstall the hotkey drivers from the CD and the video drivers. If that doesn't work, get a spare laptop HDD and install a fresh copy of Windows on it. If that still doesn't work, flash the Bios and EC?

There are lots of cheap trinkets used to raise laptops that cost under $5. There are passive coolers, laptop balls, metal stands, plastic stands, etc.

If you have nothing at the moment, just stick three erasers under each rubber foot when you game lol.

Today in a store I saw a plastic X that folded out and the back extends and it raises laptops an inch for better cooling and typing. It was $2.

    Thanks for the info!

Good idea! I only ever use it on hard surfaces, but didn't really think about giving more room for airflow. I'll start making a habit of that when I game if possible. I appreciate the tip.

I bought this baby as per suggestion from a friend...

Amazon.com: Targus Lap Chill Mat AWE55US (Black with Gray): Electronics

    HIGHLY recommend it. It's fantastic.

My idle/browsing temp is usually 28-34C with the mat and 32-41C without. Probably going to upgrade the thermal compound in the not-so-distant future also.
As for gaming temps, I haven't really closely monitored while gaming, but I've never been higher than 71 or so with the mat and 85 or so without.

My adapter gets pretty hot also. Not scary hot as I've had with some adapters, but pretty damn warm.

I know, I know, I don't need it....but if I'm going to buy the GTX 580M soon, then I'm going to need a better cooling system. Even if I don't, it doesn't hurt to be careful.

That cooler won't work unless it's plugged in with it's own AC supply so be warned you'll need to bring another chunky adapter around with you. It's also very big and eats up precious desk room. If you plan to game outside your home, you'll need a giant bag to hold the cooler itself and a big desk to get any mouse space. Are you really buying a GTX 580M? These notebooks would benefit more by cutting out the grill on the bottom panel. Maybe buy a spare from a reseller and cut out the holes.

    I got a couple more questions. : )

Is there any significant battery life gain when undervolting the GPU and/or CPU?

Is there any way to undervolt/underclock/overclock the GPU or CPU in linux or do the alternate settings persist through boot?

Would choosing the matte screen be better?

I know that it won't work unless plugged into an adapter :p I've done my research, ES. I don't mind the adapter, the PC stays on my desk anyways. And when I game on the go (which I rarely do) I can use the built-in cooling system anyways. Plus, I have another cooler that does the job but not as good as the SF-19.

No, I'm not really buying the GTX 580M. I'm going to hang back, wait and see what it's all about, get a reliability measure, and if performs up to spec, then I'm going to pull the trigger. If it's a minor architecture change, then I won't buy it.

I'm very sure you can't OC or OV the CPU, but I'm not sure if you can go the other way.

As for the GPU, yes you will see some gains, but it is dependent on how aggressive you undervolt. A pointless endeavor because this is a gaming machine. If you want battery life, go for the 5165 or the 5160.

The matte screen IS default, and it's very, very good. About 72% gamut, if I'm not mistaken, and it's high quality, the vast majority of owners are very happy with everything....color, angles, brightness, saturation, etc.

Just another note regarding the GPU in Linux.

Assuming you use the Nvidia driver, its default condition is to *drastically* underclock when performance is not needed -- so I wouldn't think you'd need any adjustment there. (I assume it works the same under Windows?)

See attached (this is the 460M).

Similarly, I have Munin installed, and was surprised to see that most of my cores spend a lot of their time at only around 1 GHz, and don't get over 1.4 often.

So while I'm sure there are tweaks to be made, I'd say the frequency scaling of both is pretty conservative already -- I haven't tested actual battery life though.

How did you do it? I read the guides and everything, and I understand the concept. The only problem I run across is there is no INF file for me to replace. I could not for the life of me find the one to swap the modified one for... Is there a secret I am unaware of? lol
