Just wanted to let ya'll know - I fixed my broken screen all by myself. Sager wanted to charge me 330 for the screen and 80 for labor plus shipping and packaging both ways (which would have been easily over 100 dollars because my mom threw away the box that came with the computer). So thats at least 510 dollars plus the 3 weeks my computer would probably be out. Well thanks to the people at mythlogic - I got a new screen for 100 plus 15 for shipping. Got it today and installed it in less than an hour not having a clue of how to do it or following any instructions (it was a little scary taking the front panel off and removing the clip from the old screen). So for only 115 and a hour of my time I got it fixed. Now I am back to being happy on with my computer which by the way I'm completely satisfied with in all aspects (except headphone sound).
-
So after Vapkez sprayed some Febreeze on my brain fart I got the camera working. I also fixed the missing driver for the "pci simple communications controller". I just installed the Intel Management Engine interface driver. I still am missing a driver for the "base system device". But if it has anything to do with the biometric scanner then I'm going to leave it because I don't want to install it.
For anyone interested in going a little old school I was able to get Final Fantasy X and Marvel vs Capcom 2 running on PCSX2 flawlessly. Tekken 5 has slowdowns. I wasn't able to figure out a way to format the memory card but was prompted at the first save in FFX so I can now save data in Marvel vs. capcom 2.
There are too many games for me to list in which I was able to get max settings but I wasn't able to go max with Crysis 2 or The Witcher 2. It's amazing how much better games like Doom3, Quake 4, and Unreal tournament 3 look at max settings. I have a feeling this next 4 months is going to fly by.
Does anyone have any advice or experience running it with no battery attached? -
Mr_Mysterious Like...duuuuuude
I have. My battery is out and in a safe place, and my computer runs fine, just as if it had the battery inside.
The only risk is that I might have a rare power outage and that would cause some kind of damage to the computer.

Nice! That's a super-satisfying feeling when you save money AND do it yourself. It's amazing how cheap some repairs can be if you have the time and willingness to give it a shot.
I once replaced the screen in my nephew's macbook since my brother in law said they wouldn't pay apple the $$ to fix it (Apple quoted him 800) -- that was scary as you had to more or less disassemble and remove EVERYTHING in the case in order to safely remove the inverter which was a requirement for replacing the panel. I watched videos and had a .pdf with instructions, and despite having built many desktops and dissassembled a few dell D-series laptops, it was the most difficult computer task I've ever attempted by far -- but in the end it did work for a cost of only $80. In his case the replacement panel was from a different mfr than the original, and he swore it looked better than what it came with, so it was a win all around.gnarkill283 likes this. -
Hey guys look at this:
You can put your cd-rom faceplate in your optical hdd caddy so you can just buy a generic one and put the faceplate yourselft

I have experienced a strange problem. 3dmark06 score is lately lower than it was. Every other benchmark's score is normal, games' framerates are ok but 3dmark06 shows 16500 when it should be 19500 as is was a few days ago (don't remember if it was after or before the installation of 11.5 b drivers). Any idea?

Are you definitely running in high performance mode? You can try running CPUZ to make sure your CPU/GPU are ramping up in clocks when playing games. It sounds like either the drivers are making things worse, or your power/driver settings are keeping the machine at artificially lower clocks.
Short those things, does rolling back the GPU drivers bump your score back up? -
Clocks are ok. 3dmark 11, vantage, heaven, they all give a perfect score except for 3dmark 06. Strange, isn't it.
Edit: I think that the only difference between the above programs is directx. Just a thought... -

Here is mine with missing antennaDo you guys really have 3G antennas here?
-
I am sure there are many ways of doing it, but how do you guys clean smudges off of your matte screen? I just ran into the problem and I don't want to clean it poorly and screw up the screen.

I wonder if my decision to get the 580M is unpopular with other 8130 owners, if only because I'm doing it so soon after receiving my machine. Personally, I like the possibility of upgrading my graphics card in the future.

Would you guys be interested in a review for the CoolerMaster SF-19 (USB 3.0 version)?
Also, playing through ACII right now...graphics are good, movement is a little clunky, but I'm having funI like the variety and the new locale, Renaissance era. The story is pretty much the same as the last time, but at least I'm not getting bored like I did with ACI.

My opinion as usual is that you don't need an active fan bulky cooler. You only need to raise the back and the 8130 can take care of itself, especially if you have flashed one of the newer ECs.

I want a caddy case to put a ssd in the ODD bay..any suggestions

Buy one on ebay and it might work but it's a crap shoot. Some have bought them and they have worked. Others have both others and they are too short or they had to superglue the faceplate on. -

The best place to buy the ODD caddy is NewmodeUS, Hard Drive Caddys for Notebooks. Call them if you need help.
This is where Sager buys them. -
I bought a cheap one on ebay, I had to duck tape the metal prong at the end of the dvd drive to screw it in since the mounting holes didn't match up. Also had to fiddle it with like mad to get into the sata ports, making sure not to break them in the process. I succeeded, I didn't change the bezel at the end, but it's not a huge deal... I might do that later.

I was actually referred to this company by a guy at my work. Wasn't sure if they would be as comfortable as buying directly from Sager or Xotic, but if that's where they get them to begin with, I suppose its a win-win.
Anyone know what size the 8130 uses? Or does Sager use the same size in all of their laptops?
By looking at the drive, I would assume a 12.7"
Edit:
Actually, I'll just order it off Xotic, they actually have them cheaper than NewModeus does -
I don't even think my mini pci express slot works, I plugged in a 3945abg in there just to test, it was not detected in Lunix or windoes.
Also tried a siera mc8781, however I could not get this detected in my other laptop either... -

Is it weird that I get nervous before playing games? It's only because I hear so much hype about them and I'm afraid that they'll just disappoint me.
Like it happened with ACI

I just get eager to play them. I do have that feeling that maybe it won't live up to the hype and I might be disappointed. Not nervous though.

It's an odd mix of nervousness and anticipation
It's funny, I don't feel this way about playing games that I have played before.

For PC games that are actually good and open to modding, users usually improve them a great deal. For console ports (like Assassin's Creed), you just have to enjoy it for what you know it is. -

Wow, now that's just a depressing way of thinking

Anyone with an i7 2720 or better?
Can you check with CPUz if you have AES support? I have the 2630, but don't people say it doesn't have AES hardware, but on the Intel page it does, I need some verification. -
Nervous before playing a game? How about -scared while playing?

Hey so I recently got mine and I'm having a problem.... My internet download won't get past 1Mbps (via speedtest.net, and 9Mbps up). I've got the Intel C.A-N 6230, and a Netgear router. I'm running Windows 7, and I'm using what I assume is its wireless manager, which on a mouse-over of my connected network shows "radio type: 802.11n". So I go to Networking in the Control Panel and right click on the wireless settings, properties, then configuration for the hardware. 802.11n mode is enabled, and the last option, wireless mode, is set to a/b/g (there is no n option). I've also enabled the "Enable Intel Connection settings" checkbox in under Status > Wireless Properties.... Drivers are those which were found on the included disc, and windows has been updated in full.
I'm not sure what the issue is with connectivity here, I haven't been able to reach speeds past 1Mbps on Firefox, IE, or any other application. I'm not sure if it's significant, but the software for advanced statistics isn't reading any packages outside of 1Mbps in Transmit/Receive either. My LAN connection to the router itself is reading in at 65Mbps.... My old, crippled laptop is able to reach 20Mbps download (again @speedtest), this system should be able to at least match that. Any help is appreciated.... -
The plastic on tis laptop seems kinda bad, I rub my finger up and down on it and it starts to like shred. What happens if I keep doing that?

my NP8130 from xoticpc doesn't have the 3G antenna. -

So my laptop froze up last night and won't turn on now. I sent an email to xotic for support but don't expect a reply till Monday. Hope I don't need to send it in again. It was a bit surprising since I wasn't doing anything that might stress out the notebook.

Or can't load Windows? -
