Oh btw, we shud create discussion for us unfortunate souls with no antenna for our mini pci express port.

I have another quesiton, does your guys mini pci express slot even work? I put in a working intel 3945abg chip, and it wasn't detected at all.
I put in an ebay sierra mc8781 but it wasn't seen in this laptop or my other one.

Is there something I am missing?



Also, I want to manually add the antenna, which antenna do you guys think would work? The U shaped ones are garbage, so those are no goes.
I want to open up my lcd and put one, Xotic/sager really screwd us over ;'(

 

Ok, one more thing I have looked underneadth the keyboard at the wifi chip, there are 3 antennas, two are conencted to it. There is a spare antenna, it's in a red cover, if we get an an antenna expansion and route it to to the mini pci express slot we should be in the game guys

Now the other problem is, where do you buy an internal antenna extension cable?
EDIT: I wired it without the extension cable, trsting if the card is even seen atm.

It won't see my sierra mc8781, is there a bios lock or something?

 

The first one. The front battery and power lights respond but when I hit the power switch nothing, the power light in front blinks green twice then nothing. No fans no other lights. It's looking seriously bricked. I've tried everything, unplugged everything pulled out the hard drives. Must be the mobo or bios cause if cpu, memory or video card went out then it would at least kick the fans in or something.

This may have worked. What I ended up doing was disabling the Wireless-N option for the card. If I'm not mistaken, you recommended the exact opposite - disable the others so N is alone, no? Unfortunately I don't have access to this particular router's configuration, so I couldn't. Regardless, thanks for the help.

 

Anyone, do any of you have a mc8781 mini pci express card, or hell any mini pci express card, if you put it in there, does it detect it? Mine won't, I even tried taping down pin 20 with electrical tape.
I have the sim card in the sim slot, and I even have the 3rd antenna attatched to it.
I even tried using a usim socket that goes around the sierra card, nothing.

There is a possibility the sierra card is bad, igot it used from ebay.

 

If you're not getting *anything*, then yeah, it's either a bad mobo or power supply. You could try getting a replacement power brick from your reseller, or just send it in and have them get it fixed up (in the event it isn't the PSU, this would save the most time)

 

This will be my last post for 4 months or so as I'm out of the country with almost no internet. Wish me luck with my 8130s stability and integrity.

 

Sorry, I'd love to help you but I don't have any mini PCI express cards handy to test mine out. I would contact your reseller for help?

Hey guys, i received my Clevo P151HM1 with a 560m GPU last friday, i was so excited till i discovered it may be faulty

When ever the power is plugged in, the nvidia display driver fails and recovers, (could be during WEI, vantage, or even changing the windows theme) however when running off battery it is fine, i think it has something to do with the fact it doesnt run 3D clock speeds on battery (checked with evga precision/msi afterburner/gpuz even when maximum performance is enabled in nvcp)

Ive been in contact with the company i purchased it with, i think it may get replaced, which i hope it does...

Has anyone seen this issue before?

 

What driver did you install for the nvidia 560m, and how did you install it? Did you use a custom .inf file?

 

the one that came on the CD was 267.78 i also tried 275.33 with the custom inf file from laptopvideo2go

I even tried 268.13 thats on clevos site and still no go

 

You probably have to RMA it, good thing you got a Sager. If you got anything else then the turn around could take forever.

 

I had the same problem with DD-WRTed TP-Link WR740N.

And that was the solution to keep N linking speed (around 130Mbps).

My np8130 is up and running again. Donald at xotic suggested that I re-seat the RAM which didn't work. Then I noticed the CMOS battery was under the keyboard so I took it out for a minute and then put it back in resetting the BIOS CMOS. After the reset the laptop booted like normal. With a stroke of irony, while on the phone with Donald to let him know I fixed the laptop, Justin from xotic left a message suggesting I do a CMOS reset to fix the laptop. I'd say some pats on the back and gold stars all around are in order.

 

Ok, I just got my laptop about a half hour ago, and so far I'm very happy.

So far, this is my caveat: the fingerprint scanning software doesn't work with any current browsers. Is the $20 upgrade to the 2011 version worth it? Have any of you tried/used it?

 

Nice you got it, how is it? I haven't done any fingerprint scanning because I never got past the first finger lol.

 

haha. I used to use my fingerprint scanner all the time on my HP, but eventually the software just stopped being able to be modded for the latest version of firefox (the consumer model went EOL).

I really like this. I haven't really had time to benchmark it or run games yet, but I'm hoping to soon. Still trying to install stuff and copy over files.

 

I couldn't get my fingerprint scanner working either, but I haven't taken the time to find a fix for it because I don't really care all that much hehe.

 

I went on their website. The supplied software only works for IE8 and FF 3.5. You have to buy the full version for IE9/FF 4. Lame.

BTW: Has anyone else had problems with the touchpad not recognizing your palm and moving the pointer all the time? I turned my palmcheck all the way up to the max and it's still doing it.

I've had that problem with more touchpads than not. In this case I just fn-f1 the touchpad every time I reboot, but I also always use a mouse. If you intend on using the touchpad regularly I can see that might not be the best solution.

 

Unfortunately, I'm going to need to use it during class. I guess there's nothing you can do, huh? So far this is one of the only aspects that I will miss my HP for.

 

Im using it, its way better than the default version, it works with latest chrome, firefox, etc... you even can bind a finger to an application, etc

Oh gawd, if you guys remember I was posting how I could not get my 3g module, sierra mc8781 working, and how I was missing the antenna rite?
Well to sum it up, I got a spare antenna from teh wifi chip and routed it there, but no matter what I could not get my sierrra card detected.

I then asked xotic and they replied with this

People who have no 3g antenna in their mini pci expres slot, we might be fawked, and I might have to put 30 day return into action, because this is dumb.

 

My laptop won't even boot with a card in the slot. Powering it up with anything plugged in there leads to an instant reboot before the BIOS boot screen even comes up.

 

I don't even think my laptop sees the card... I mean it fits all snuggly and everything, oh and try taping down pin 20(with electrical tape ofc), it might solve your problem.

 

Since the connector is soldered in there, the only other possibility I can think of is that the pinout is non-standard and it was only designed for a 3G card that Clevo had in mind. It may therefore not work with any standard mini PCI express if that is the case. If that's true, that sucks as well.

 

I doubt it's not standard. I looked through the cd, but there is a card in mind, as the drivers on the cd were for an ericson card. I think this is the card it was talking about, will double check.

I am also talking with xotic support, I would really love to get this worked out. Mobile 3g was one of the biggest reasons I got this laptop... and usb cards suck as they don't get as good reception and stick out.

 

Oh do you have an antenna already in your mini pci express slot? Also did you buy the intel wireless card over the default realtek stuff?

 

Anyone else have problems with FN + 1 full fan mode? It's unusable for me due to the fact that it cuts out every 4 seconds for a split second making an annoying rev down/up sound, it's a steady every 4 seconds when active.

Anyone else experiencing that?

Well I finally ordered my lotus P151HM1 from malibal earlier today. I got everything stock and the ship date is June 27. Very excited!!! When I get it I plan on posting a HUGE amount of gaming vids and benchmarks so I'll keep you posted!

 

Ok, on the Mini PCI-E second slot issues, I tried two WiFi adapters I had laying around, one Atheros 802.11b/g/n and a Broadcom 802.11b/g.

The Atheros card was not detected at all, the Broadcom card made the laptop shut off immediately after powering on.

I don't really have any plans on using the second slot for anything in the near future but I thought I'd give that a try to see if I could produce some helpful info for those trying to use that slot.
Looks like theres something odd going on there.

Well, it's nice to know something happens. I think the laptop may only work with a select few mini pci express devices. I suppose maybe if I got that ericson card it would work. I will talk to Xotic pc some more too, also getting a replacement for my sierra card at the same time, since my dell laptop didn't see it either; then again, it was never supposed to have one in there.

EDIT: With the tape mod, I got it detected in my other laptop replacing the wifi chip. Could not get it detected with this laptop in the free mini pci express slot. It might work if you swap the wireless chip with it, but that's not really acceptable.

I have two questions.

1- is it possible to switch the f-keys to where you can use the shortcuts like volume without having to use the fn key?

2- I bought the laptop with the intel ultimate n 6300. Can I switchnthisnout with a different card like the 6230 to get Bluetooth?

 

Anyone able to use 275.33 with inf mod and still be able to adjust screen brightness? When I use the latest and greatest it burns out my retina's. lol

Been running stock drivers so I can change it.
