im reading this on the clevo website " External 7.1CH audio output supported by headphone,microphone,S/PDIF and Line-in jack"

will my Lotus P151HM1 support multi channel audio out to my 5.1 system I have on my desktop that uses 3 3.5mm plugs?

edit: clevo also says its the slimmest 100 watt GPU capable laptop. I thought the GTX560m was only 75 watts. Is the Lotus P151HM1 100 watt GPU capable except for the power supply?

I got the drivers directly from Sager's website, and installed them. The card is indeed visible in the BIOS, and calls it a "JMC25C" communications device or something of the sort, I forget the complete name. Fn+F11 does nothing.

So after using this for a while I have some initial thoughts:

The stock screen is kind of lacking. On black screens I can see the refreshing lines. I also have backlight bleed that has to be massaged out. For some reason I was using it in an internet cafe and the CPU fan stopped spinning. fn+1 did not turn it back on. I let it cool down because it shutdown due to overheating. I also got the beeping with the number and caps lock lights flashing(overheating). I let it cool then turned it back on. The fan started up and I started thanking Jesus.

It handles most games from the past few years at max settings and runs very cool even without the fans on full speed. I particularly like the touchpad. It's cool to have different options for scrolling and multi touch.

Yep, it'll work no problem. Just hook up the speakers as follows:

    • Headphone-Out Jack = Front Speaker out
    • Line-In Jack = Rear Speaker Out
    • Microphone-In Jack = Center/Subwoofer Speaker Out
    • S/PDIF-Out Jack = Side Speaker Out (for 7.1 Surround Sound Only)

Then go through your Realtek HD software and enable 5.1/7.1 sound in speaker configuration.

The P151HM1 is 100w capable, but you'd need to get the 180w brick. It's also not officially supported, even if it can be done.

I'd check device manager to be sure it's showing up there, then doing a clean driver install. FN+F11 is also reliant on having the hotkey driver installed, which is, right? Otherwise I'm stumped, if it's showing up in Bios/device manager and it's physically enabled in bios with the hotkey, I can't see why it wouldn't show up in Network Connections.

The weird thing is, when I press Fn + F11, the indicator on the top left only shows "Off". Never on, like with bluetooth and the other ones.

EDIT: Nevermind! Got it fixed, I installed the WLAN_Combo one and it worked.

    Hey guys,

Whenever I enable Fn+1 for the fans 100% speed, it will speed up then audibly slow down every 5-10seconds

Is this the old issue Ive seen about? I thought t was fixed =/? My BIOS i think is 6/1/2011 (june 1st)

Also, my gaming temps are usually from 60-67 (68 is the highest I encountered), is this pretty normal?

Yes, it's an old issue. No it hasn't been fixed yet....and your gaming temps seem pretty fine.

Could it have something to do with it being glossy?

My last computer was a Macbook and it would hurt my eyes after using it for long periods of time because it was glossy, though it didnt make my head hurt. I dont think I could go back to a glossy screen now.

I've read some things about the quality of the headphone jack, none good. Is it really that bad? I'm going to be gaming/listening to music through headphones almost exclusively. Will I need to buy an amp or something?

From anything. Looking at the desktop, reading webpages (scaled to 120%), playing games, you name it. One look at the screen = instant pain. It's like a $1250 torture device! xD

The refresh rate is 60Hz, like all my previous monitors have been, so I don't see how that would be the problem.

The headphone jack for me is pretty awful. I actually purchased a USB stereo adapter today from Amazon and I hope this will fix the issue.

    Syba USB Stereo Adapter

I also purchased a HD webcam because the webcam on my laptop is pretty bad

These are really the only issues I have with the NP8130. I hope that these two purchases will make my laptop even better!

Today I was just using my np8130, using FRAPS (a screen recorder program), and about 2minutes in or so, my laptop totally shut down. black screen and everything, power off. fans off.

i waited about 30seconds in shock, then restarted it, and i havent lost any critical data and everything seems to be okay, but this seriously scared me.

Do you guys think this was related to me using FRAPS to record? i've recorded before with fraps for like 20minutes with 0 issues... on way more intensive stuff (Mw2/COD4 versus the 2minutes into a gameboy game emulator)

Was it a power surge of some sort?

    really worried...

Also, when I rebooted it seems that I lost 5% of my battery charge capacity..?

edit: My laptop was sitting on a flat surface, so I really doubt overheating was a cause...
Only thing I can think of is that i terminated a windows live installer for windows movie maker..., and that somehow initiated a crash

    Question, from here:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...550475-15-6-fhd-1920x1080-panels-reviews.html

AUO11ED (Stock 60% Gamut, Matte, by NotebookCheck):
    687:1 & 633:1

AUO14ED (95% Gamut Matte, by NotebookCheck):
    Contrast: 514:1

AUO17ED (95% Gamut Glossy Option, by Anandtech):
    Contrast: 692:1

Why are the numbers so bad on the 95% Gamut Matte? A fluke you guys think or what? I can't find any review that makes me feel "wowed" enough to buy it. Just everyone saying I should.

Glossy displays enhance contrast and color vibrancy a slight amount. That's most likely the reason.

I have the matte 95% screen on my 8130, and you couldn't pay me to switch over to the glossy.

Honestly, the screen is beautiful, even if you lose a little in the transition to matte. But the benefits of a matte display are more significant than the lost of a bit of contrast and color pop.

Also 514:1 contrast ratio isn't "bad."

Most notebook displays are in the 200-400ish Contrast range, because most notebook displays are abysmal.

Anything over 500 contrast on a laptop is pretty good these days.

I actually have a question for the retailers:

What is the pixel design of the 95% gamut displays?

WLED? RGB? If it's the B+RG LED which I have a feeling it is (like the one on the XPS 15), is that just a marketing name for a souped up WLED, or is it really a different technology?

Yeah, I hear ya. Thanks for the replies. I'm definitely second guessing myself some. But what I don't get is how the 60% Gamut Matte scored as high as it did, and the 95% one didn't.

Something just has to be wrong... Cause I hear everyone speak so highly of the matte 95 vs the matte 60.

Anyway, since I'm an indoor user, I went the safe route (for me) and got the glossy 95%.

I agree with what you're saying in principle so much though.
Theoretically, that extra usefulness of not being affected by light is WAY more valuable than a little additional contrast.

I would need an official really good review of this panel though in order to feel comfortable buying it, regardless of what anyone says it is I think.

Download the INF for 275.33 from here for your OS that you need.

    http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/drivers

Overwrite the same .INF in that directory you extracted the Official Nvidia drivers to.

Run the setup again. It should go go.

Hi, I'm going to be starting university in the fall, and am looking for a laptop that I can use in class, as well as use for gaming. I've looked at many models, and the Sager np8130 seems to be the best for the price, as well as the only one I would take out in public :)

I've been looking at the customization options on Malibal, and I think I'm going to go with 12gbs RAM (1333Mhz) and the 95% matte screen, but I'm not sure about processors. In a perfect world, I'd like to keep it as cheap as possible, but I was wondering if the upgrade to the 2720 would be worth it for the price, especially for a student. Also I am undecided as to whether I should replace the optical drive with a 80gb SSD for my windows and game installations. Again, price would be the issue; I take it it wouldn't be hard to do the upgrade myself in the future.

I also live in Canada, and was wondering if anyone living here has experience ordering through Malibal? Are there a lot of fees for importing? Thanks for any advice!

Hi, there aren't any import taxes or duties on notebooks shipping from the US to Canada, so the only potential fee you will have to pay is a brokerage fee, which is usually around $75. See here: UPS: Rates for Customs Clearance into Canada

However, if you get UPS Express or Expedited Shipping, there are no brokerage fees... you will only have to pay your local GST / PST / HST once the notebook arrives. These are the same taxes you would pay if you purchased the laptop locally.

Also, please note that we have a 40% OFF discount on UPS Express, Expedited Services for NBR members, so that can save you quite a bit. :)

Good choice, however 8GB RAM is more than enough for the average use these days. The 2630QM is already a good processor; if you're tight on budget then this is the one to go for. The 2720QM sports extra features that some may need (DDR3 1600Mhz supports, Vt-d Virtualization)...but I don't think it matters for your use.

You can in fact lower your upgrade of the 2720QM to the 2630QM and get the SSD + HDD combo like you mentioned, thus lowering the cost. It's painless to upgrade; RAM, GPU and HDD are all within grasp.

The Intel® i7-2630QM will support DDR3/1600 as well, regardless of what Intel and others may say. We have built hundreds of laptops with the Intel® i7-2630QM and DDR3/1600 memory :)

Correct! However we have found that DDR3/1866 works up to 12GB, but at 16GB it tends to overload the memory controller and is unstable. It will rarely pass Memtest86 V4.20

Thanks for the info on the shipping and taxes, that sounds reasonable. The shipping discount sounds great, what do I need to do get that?

Ok thank you for your tips! I will most likely stay with the 2630QM and the 8gigs of RAM, and go with the SSD as that seems like the bigger upgrade.

I wouldn't necessarily say for the money because the cost to GB ratio is so high compared with HDD's. But it is a good investment if you want faster boot times and instantaneous response in the Windows desktop environment. Won't help much with games other than loading levels faster.

    On a budget:

    40-80GB boot drive + 500GB 7.2kRPM storage.

Definitely biggest performance increase for your money, IMO.

Definitely agreed for those on a budget. Smaller SSD's have become affordable now, and if you don't absolutely need an optical drive- dropping in relatively large HDD covers the storage side of things. I run this same basic setup on a few laptops and desktops because of the fact that I have just too much stuff to make an SSD-only machine useful :D
