With Windows 7 Driver Model, Driver Sweeper can break more than it fixes. My screen went blank after using it and had to do a complete windows reinstall. You can't install drivers from Safe Mode either. So you can really bork your system. There really is no need for Driver Sweeper with Windows 7. No need to even uninstall drivers unless they specifically ask to. A good cleaning with ccleaner and glary utilities after installing a driver is a good idea to clean up any stray files, but it won't really hurt anything other than consume storage space.

Hm, I just ran DriverSweeper and it seems everything is fine. Afterwards, I booted normally and then installed the new driver.

Not to say that what you are saying is wrong, HTWingNut. I've heard from several others about problems with DriverSweeper, but I have had good experiences with it.

    =)

I used it in the past and with XP you almost needed it. But now with Windows 7 you don't need it. I'm sure it works, or at least doesn't cause issues for lots of people, but not sure that it's doing anything productive. Maybe if you had some lingering problems with updating drivers I can see its usefulness. Otherwise just install over existing driver or if you want uninstall existing driver then install new.

    Hello guys!
I'm very new to this forum and I'm looking for some info regarding temps underload and for example some word document processing(not gaming). I'm impressed of the prices and the quality, i'm just worried about the temps nothing more so if any of u can provide me some info regarding that it will be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I'm sorry for the crappy English and if some1 already post these temps but 370 pages are little too much for reading. :) Thx in advance!

IC Diamond is a bit of an unnecessary luxury. It is good to have, and will keep it just a bit cooler, but it is certainly not necessary.

I would not recommend getting a cooler either. At least not until you get it to see how cool it actually stays. If, after you get it you still think you need or want a cooler, ok, but don't spend the money unless you really need to.

If you are a casual gamer and do not do too much as to running a lot of benchmarks and such then you may choose to pass on the ICD.

If you are a REAL intense gamer and bencher then you may want a laptop cooler and the ICD... :)

I'm not so much into gaming but once per 1-2 months i'm starting some new game like Assassin's Creed so I think i would prefer at least some cooling pad with vents at minimum. That would make me feel better :D

"3-Year Labor 1-Year Parts (Year 2 & 3 Labor by PNB)-Lifetime 24/7 DOMESTIC Toll Free Support" <<< what is this exactly???

and is there any laptop that is compatible with the NP8130, with longer battery life and maybe lighter (besides the 5165<<-heard the noise and cooling is not as good as the NP8130?). Any other brand is fine.

Warranty coverage perhaps... the OEM covers the 1st year od labour and part, PNB covers Y2-3 of labour, but you have to pay for all parts.

Compatible? Nothing. Laptops don't interface with each other directly.

Comparable? Nothing or very very little. Pretty much every manufacturer who uses GTX series GPUs ignores Optimus, which is really the only way to eek out more battery life from such demanding components. An overclocked M14x would get close...

I still don't understand  I care about if i have any problem in 1 year, will they be willing to fix it, charge free.
How long does it take for the NP8130 to get really heat up?? If i am just doing web surfing and movies, i shouldn't worry about the heat much??

Parts and labor are covered for defective hardware for the first year of the warranty. For the second and third year, only the labor is covered.

Say your GPU goes out. In the first year, it would be replaced at absolutely no cost to you. If it happens in the second or third year, you would have to pay for the part, but there would be no charge to install it.

Since I mostly do 3dsmax, autocad, illustrator, and photoshop work for college (occasional sony vegas), would the NP8130 be a good model to get? Or would something less expensive like the NP5165 do the job fine?

I finally got around to downloading some benchmark software and was hoping you all could verify that my scores were normal. Setup: 8130 with 2720, 8GB memory, 80GB SSD, 560M, 275.5 modded driver. Scores: PC Vantage x64 (trial version): 15277; 3DMark11 (basic free version): P2214. I think that is the normal range but wanted to double check with you all. Also, does Sager notify you of driver updates or do we just keep hitting the Sager website and checking Atmosk's thread? Thanks all!

Those programs will all run on integrated graphics machines - just not quickly or spectacularly. Most of those do take advantage of CUDA and hardware acceleration, so Nvidia based laptops will definitely have a speed advantage. That said, the difference depends on the programs. I'd check out the benchmarks here for the models you're comparing:

Mobile Graphics Cards - Benchmark List - Notebookcheck.net Tech

They have benchmarks for most of the programs you listed.

The scores you listed are on the high side of average for your hardware, so it looks like you're good :)

(See here for the averages http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-560M.48313.0.html )

No, you won't get notifications of updates except through Windows Update or if the program has a built in updater like Nvidia does. For the most part, you won't see a benefit in updating any of the drivers other than the Video drivers unless you're specifically having a problem with the older sets.

So I am Kind of regretting my purchase. I am sort of wishing I got an alienware m14x. There are certain things I don't like. The trackpad sucks, and the keys seem spaced too far and I find myself having trouble hitting certain keys when gaming. I also don't like the fact that the keyboard isn't backlit. But the min thing I don't like is the 1080p screen. The Screen itself is gorgeous but the 1080p res really hurts performance in new games. Now MALIBAL has been great and it's not there fault in the slightest. It's just in my opinion, Laptop graphics cards are not ready for 1080p gaming yet. Sure it looks good, but the performance hit is crazy. I would be much happier with a 720p res. Now I would probably return this but my mom won't let me haha. So basically thats my quick 2 cents on this laptop and I will have a full review up soon.

EDIT: I am being nitpicky. I really like this laptop and I am just bummed that the m14x is getting better frames then my beast. Although I what i said about the keyboard does bug me quite a bit.

No, I don't want a worse screen I just want a lower res screen. 1600X900 is the ideal res for laptop gaming imho. And backlit keyboards affect battery so slightly it is not noticeable.

Have you tried running games at a lower resolution? I've played a few of my more demanding games at 720p and not had any issues. As long as the resolution you change to is at the same aspect ratio, it shouldn't be a big difference. After using it, I wouldn't want to go lower than 1920x1080 on a machine ever again - you just get too used to having all the screen real estate when doing non-gaming things. (16x10 would be nicer, but that's another story :))

So run your games on your current machine at that resolution. The 95% color gamut screen is such high quality, you'd barely notice that you weren't operating at the native resolution.

In a best-case scenario, with all other settings otherwise equal, an M14x at 1600x900 will run games at the same clip as an 8130 at 1920x1080. This is also not taking into account any issues with Optimus that you might come across, which will never be the case with the 8130.

    Hi,

I do get your point about the backlit keyboard. But for the screen resolution, just play your games at lower res. and you'll be fine. You don't HAVE to run everything at native resolution (though many games will run fine).

The benefits of the 1080p screen FAR outweigh the small inconvenience of running a few games at non-native res (which you might not even notice visually).

Exactly. Just lower the resolution. Lower resolution looks horrible on the desktop, but for gaming it's hardly noticeable.

Overclock your video card too. Unless you're running Bad Company 2 at max detail I can't see what games wouldn't run at acceptable frame rates at 1080p. Metro 2033 is a beast of a game too, but dial down the detail settings a bit too, and it should run fine.

My NP8130 seems to be turning itself off.. :( It only happens once in a while, but when it does, it happens several times in a row. It most commonly seems to happen when the laptop is on it's right side. I don't think that it's a heat issue as it feels cool, and I haven't been doing anything terribly strenuous on it when it has happened. It's been on AC power as well, so I'm worried about the internal PSU perhaps going bad..

Just got an update on my RMA. My hard drive was dead, so it's been replaced and they reinstalled Windows for me. It's going through testing & burn in right now, and as long as no other problems come up they will be shipping it out soon. What a relief. :)

Overall, I'm quite happy with my support experience with Xotic & Sager. (Xotic suspected it was an HDD problem and offered to have them send me a new HDD to swap out, but I opted for the RMA just to be safe)

Whenever I play FFXIV, my GPU temp goes up to 72-80 C. Should I invest in a notebook cooler or is that a safe temperature to play at?

Unless you see temps north of 90-95C, you're running at the recommend range. Even then, just making sure your machine is on a flat and level surface will do as much as a lot of coolers out there.

Quick question. I'm having some issues with my Backspace, Scroll Lock, Num Lock, Keypad 7, Up Arrow and Backslash keys. Sometimes they work perfectly others it's a small delay other times very long delay or not at all. Could I have maybe not inserted the keyboard ribbon correctly when I was installing the extra system memory? Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts before I tried reseating the keyboard ribbon.

    Thanks.

Received my P150 today. It's sooo fast :)

I installed Win7 Ultimate (upgrade) on it.
Can I edit the registry (regedit) so that I can enter the serial? It didn't accept the serial during install since it was a upgrade key. (The key have never been used)
