I have one question. Is it normal to have around 75 processes running? This was obviously a clean install when I received the laptop, and I'm just making sure since it sounds too high. I closed unnecessary things and start ups with msconfig, but even then, i got it down to 70.

Depending on what they are it doesn't sound out of the ordinary. I personally have 136 going. Watch the CPU usage and see if anything is out of the ordinary running.

Just got my NP8130 today, got RAM and SSD installed and Windows loaded along with all drivers and updates without a hitch. However, battery life makes me sad
I really love the machine, but 2.5 hours battery is the worse part about it. In the end though I'm thinking the performance and screen and overall build quality will outweigh the HP's cheaper cost and longer battery life.
-
An update, I reseated the keyboard ribbon and it's working perfectly. So lesson learned about he ribbon and the little tabs.
-

Did you order it without an OS and do a full install using upgrade media? If that's the case, then no- you need to have a full install version for that to work. The upgrade key doesn't work on clean installs. -
Battery life will be outweigh by A LOT from the screen and performance...the difference in price it's justified with the graphic card and the processor...completely!
-
I just bought a crucial c300 128gb ssd, pretty excited about it.
-
One tip is to try installing it again over the current unactivated Windows.
I use student media upgrade disc, and I clean install it by installing it twice, which works fine.
-
I figured that out. But that was after i installed sp1 and a bunch of updated. I used windows 7 loader instead.

Glad to hear it arrived safely! How do you like the screen?
Are you dimming the screen, disabling Aero etc?? -
I love the machine, everything about it, knew I would. The screen is great. I was mostly concerned about viewing angles, and this one does not irritate me like the stock one on the NP8170, nearly 80 deg vertical and side to side. And it is bright and vibrant. Going to play some Bad Company 2 to see how well it fares.
I have my own standard test I run. Four tabs in Firefox with ReloadEvery add-on script, one tab at 1 min, one at 3 min, one at 5 min and one at 10 min (Yahoo, MSN, NHL, NBR). Screen at a reasonable level, and with this screen, one click above lowest is more than sufficient. I do not turn off Aero, as I've found that has little influence on battery life. Wi-fi at medium performance. I get almost 7 hours on my M11x using this, over 6 hours on my netbook, and got about 2 on the NP8170.
To be honest as much as I'd love to spend less money and have more battery life I'm already thinking I'll have to make due with the battery life of the NP8130. -
Wow only 2.5 hrs? I'm getting around 3.5 Hrs of battery and even then, its still at about 7%.. Just the screen dim, WIFI is on, I've taken alot of startup programs off, processes etc.
-
Have you noticed "a lot" of difference between the 95% gamut and 60%? I wanna buy the 8130 but $100 bucks seems quite a bit to me hehe..
-
What are the typical temperatures of this machine? *stock compound, no cooler, moderate gaming.
-
I've used both screens,
the 95% gamut screen is simply stunning and well worth the upgrade. -
Did you color calibrate your screen? If so, what would you say about using it before & after calibration with day-to-day stuff and gaming?
If not, does the "saturation" I hear about a problem or concern for you at all and make you wanna spend the cash to calibrate it? I think the software you'd have to use to calibrate it would cost another $100 or so, right?
I just wasn't sure I wanted to open this can of worms, see? -
I didn't calibrate it, nor do I feel the need to...
I mean, it does seem a bit saturated, but through AMD CCC, you can set gamma and basic things, so I don't have to use a professional calibrating rig.
To be honest, the screen looks awesome, even without tweaking, and that is why I don't really feel the need to calibrate. -
should one get the matte screen, or clear gloss
-
Depends on where you are going to use this laptop.
I asked a reseller, who is also my friend, on which screen he thought was better,
and without a hitch he chose the glossy. The contrast ratios are higher even on the spec sheet for the glossy screen, and unless you work right in front of the window,
I'd say go for the glossy. -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
It is totally personal preference whether to get a matte or glossy screen.
Have you seen both screen types before?
Glossy screens will give you more vibrant colors, but they are somewhat reflective.
Matte screens have less vibrant colors, although the colors are more accurate, and they are not reflective.
While no LCD screen works very well outdoors, the matte screens are slightly better. -
This is on a fresh install of Windows with minimal processes and no apps installed. Not sure what could be so different to get an hour difference?
Even processes don't matter much unless they're consuming CPU cycles. Processes sitting in RAM do nothing more than consume RAM, and drain no more power, the RAM has to be charged anyhow with the same voltage.
I was using Firefox 5, which do you use? Of course based on this: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ie/archive/...ng-the-industry-with-internet-explorer-9.aspx it shouldn't matter. And that articles uses Firefox 4, FF5 is supposed to be better with power consumption.
edit: I was just reading up on the SSD I put in my machine. It can consume 3W during TRIM cleanup (or garbage collection). I did leave my machine idle for close to an hour after installing Windows, but maybe it needed more time to cleanup and was doing it while on battery, but in any case that's only about 2.5W from idle, which is ~ 10% of the power consumed while on battery (at least battery bar showed 20-25W), so 150 minutes x .1 = 15 minutes more battery life, which is still a far cry from 3.5 hours. -
Check out my findings here on page 8 @ the bottom. I think these are the best two latest "all things equal" comparison of the screens:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...ly-asked-questions-read-before-posting-8.html
You can also find a collection of screen reviews here, but look through the rest of the pages as I've added more recent reviews (page 5 & 6):
http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...550475-15-6-fhd-1920x1080-panels-reviews.html
You are considering the:
Stock Matte AUO11ED
95 Glossy AUO17ED
95 Matte AUO14ED
I think they all appear to be great screens. We're probably all crazy on these forums.
Just consider where you'll be using it. Move a glossy laptop or smartphone around your house and see for yourself. Is there a window on the opposite wall of where you'll be mainly using it? And if all else fails, if you're happy with your current screen finish type, go with the same. All three of these don't disappoint. The matte screens have excellent contrast, and the glossy screen has such a high brightness, it'll overcome reflections better (I'd imagine) than a cheaper glossy screen.
You'll notice that even on the stock matte screen, reviews state that the "traditional logic" of matte screens not having as good a contrast as glossy "doesn't apply" (paraphrasing).
Good luck! -
Where can I check if I have the 95 Matte AUO14ED? -
New driver out today, NVIDIA DRIVERS 280.19 BETA
is it safe to use with the same .ini? -
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
You can check it in your device manager under hardware ID's of the monitor.
-
What .ini file is people talking about? I really want the newest drivers from nvidia.
-
The only reason most laptops come with glossy screens is because it makes the contrast look better than it really should be. A properly developed screen can look just as good in matte as glossy. I have a 24" IPS screen that is matte and wouldn't have it any other way.
-
I'm using Chrome. Its no firefox, but its definitely faster starting up.
-
Hmm, I thought that the basic panels are all glossy,
and the matte only has a sheet of matte layer, and the glossy is just the panel itself? -
No, they both have a protective sheet over them. One is just glossy, the other matte. I'm just saying that since they've really cheapened LCD's over the years it's easier to sell a glossy screen because you don't need as much brightness or contrast to make it look decent. With matte the low quality screens just don't cut it, so they just use glossy.
-
The NVIDIA .ini file you're wondering is a custom made device driver identification for GPU that are not supposedly supported on official .ini files.
So from here, the Clevo line usually has pretty new technology and sometimes the new drivers have no official support for them. With the inclusion of the custom ini file though, you can install the new drivers without the installer coming up with the error of, " Could not find compatible hardware."
In simple terms, the custom ini file allows your graphics card to be identified during installation, if it did came up with the error mentioned before.
Hope that helps.

The default screen for the NP8130 is now the 15.6 Full HD 16:9 LED-Backlit Glossy 95% NTSC Color Gamut Ultra Bright. The MATTE 95% NTSC Color Gamut Ultra Bright is $95.00 more.
_ -
The default screen on the P151HM1 is now the 15.6" 1920 x 1080 FHD LED Backlit 95% NTSC Color Gamut GlassView Display!
-
That's AWESOME!!! (lower the matte a lil bit and will be GREATER!)...
-
I wonder why Sager is getting rid of the non-95% screens. And why the price difference between the matte and glossy? This creates problems for somebody who wants a matte screen without paying an extra $95.
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
They aren't getting rid of them, there is just a shortage of them worldwide. They will begin offering them again in about a month.
-
Like...for me lol...I want matte, and the 95% gamut it's kinda overbudget for me...if it goes +30 (like the glossy was) i'll be able to have it...But I can't buy glossy cuz i work around in many areas where reflections will make me go crazy
-
Hi.
Any experts able to lend a help? I see a green trailing lines in this video. Is it the screen problem or something related to hardware? *hmm*

Finally found out what the problem with my audio was (poorly compressed youtube)
So everything is going great
Though can't play BF3 Alpha because the Nvidia drivers don't support Clevo GPU's
-
Anthony@MALIBAL Company Representative
The newest drivers should support the 560m natively now. Others have reported that it installs just fine on the P151HM1 w/ 560m.
However, if you have trouble, you could try a modded inf:

How hard is it to replace the cd drive with a blu ray drive?
-
its one screw!!just unscrew the hard drive cover.at the left of hd there is a screw.unscrew it and the cd drive is free to change it..
-
I wouldn't need to take it all apart to connect it to the battery/psu and other stuff?
I've built PCs...but am clueless on laptops.
Also what size should it be? -
You just open the cover on primary hard drive bay to get access to the screw that holds optical drive in place.
You mean the screw size? Buy all-in-one screw and find the suitable screw head to unscrew it. -
saturnotaku Notebook Nobel Laureate
Most screws on laptops I've worked with have been 00 or 000. I have one of these and it works great. -
Anthony@MALIBAL Company Representative
You have to unscrew the hard drive compartment (two screws, it's the middle compartment in the front of the laptop). From there, there's a single screw off to the side where the optical drive is that holds it in place. Remove that and the drive slides right out. As for the optical drive itself, any standard 12.7mm SATA drive will work. You may have to swap out the bezel it comes with with the one that was on your old drive so that it matches the machine (this is entirely cosmetic though, it makes no difference either way).
Just slide in the new drive and do the above steps in reverse and you're set. -
Got my laptop back from RMA today (failed hard drive; would've had it last Friday but I missed the UPS guy
). Looks like they also removed that annoying little piece of plastic that was stuck in the top middle of the screen!
-
I plan on order a clevo laptop and im wondering if I should get glassview or matte and I have already read some threads on glassview vs matte but i would like to know what are the differences between the two based on lighting, color, glare etc.

Hey guys I just came here for some help in identifying the antennas to upgrade my wireless card. Is the P151HM supposed to come with 3 antennas or just 2 and what does the antenna wire and the connector part look like? Thanks.
-
I know what you mean about the plastic. Mine was sort of stuck inside like yours was, and it was a pain in the butt to get off, haha. Had to peel that stuff in like 50 little strips from all over the place
Oh well, it's pretty
