I give up, I need to get a np8130/np8150 psu. I bought that prudent 150watt psu, and that one on ebay claiming it's for the np8130 120watts, and they both went kaput. The prudent died in 5 minutes of deus ex hr, the other one lasted 1 month of good use.
Whcih reseller has the 180watt psu for cheap and fast shipping/delivery? I need it naowz

Why not check with your reseller? They may have a better deal for you than just ANY reseller.
_ -
Yeah I just bought it from xotic, 120$... with shipping and everything.
I am already low on dosh and this is like supa expensive.
I hope they ship it quick and don't do any of that nonsense shipping it to 999 places before I get it. It really is a hassle having only 1 psu.
Also I have a question, if I later got a 2920es, can it be oc'd on the sager np8130? Because even the normal 2920 was not an option for this laptop. -
Hello Notebook review! Thanks to your help while I lurked, I ended up getting this notebook from xoticpc about a month ago. I went with the i7-2620, I installed my own SSD into the DVD bay, and I also applied some high end thermal paste on both the GPU and CPU. I don't really think the paste was needed though, temps are absolutely fantastic on this notebook.
I glanced through 30-40 pages looking for gpu overclockers, but only saw 1 person who posted their overclocks and scores. Who else here overclocks their gtx460m/560m and what are your sustainable overclocks you play with on more demanding games?
EDIT: And also thanks for the FN+1 tip. I didn't know that made the fans ramp up to 100%, and I hadn't realized what combo key I hit to make them go crazy. I found the answer in a google search - it was this thread and it was the first link provided from the search. Nice! -

Overclocks greatly depend on your individual hardware. If you really want to do it, I'd recommend doing it in 5 and 10Mhz increases with stability testing in-between. Overclocking up to levels other people have reported could be a bad idea if your card can't support it. That said, modest overclocks of 5%-10% seem to have been the most that others have gotten.
-
Well, I've just received my NP8130 today. It actually looks much better than I thought.
Ordered it without OS so it took me this whole evening to install windows and drivers. So far so good... except for some reason I can't seem to run Linux on it without problems (hang on boot once, froze 2 times randomly, can't boot from Linux CD).
The thing is, Windows 7 Ultimate runs perfectly fine, so i guess i'm using only windows 7 for now.
Anyone run Ubuntu on it?
Seriously, this problem is stealing a considerably large amount of joy from me.
-
I've installed Ubuntu, PCLinuxOS, and now Arch. Haven't had problems like you're describing. Not sure what it would be though.
-
Thanks for the reply! I see you are one of the most active members on here. Makes me wish I had checked malibal before ordering from xotic.
-
Damn...
It's just me then. Thanks for letting me know, i'll find a way to fix this.
-
I replaced my dvd drive with another hd, it has Ubuntu 11.04 on it, it works nice. You need atleast a 2.6.38 kernel for most devices to run happy.
So no ubuntu 10.04 unless you compile the kernel and get graphics drivers happy, I wouldn't recommend it.
Just run 11.04 with the gnome classic desktop, so much better than slow unity.
Also for people looking to OC, here is a 100% stable oc on pretty much every machine.
847 core, 1260 memory. More than that and some gamess can crash it occasionally, yet furmark didn't however. -
After further contemplating on whether or not to get the 151/8130 or 150/8150, I am still undecided as to the route I want to take.
I configured a 150/8150 with an ATI 6990M (unfortunately I don't think I really need a faster CPU than the 2630QM) and reconfigured a 151/8130.
My limit again being $1,600 USD I have come up with the following configurations using MALIBAL's website, but that does not mean that is where I would be ordering from.
Looking for further opinions and suggestions as this has now become decidedly more difficult to pick out a laptop. Main reason is I would rather get what I can now as I don't know what the future holds as far as me doing any kind of additional upgrades to whichever laptop I get.

With the cost being that close, I'd go for the 8150. The 6990M is a much better GPU, and you could always replace the optical drive with a SSD later. I'm also debating between the two, but my price range is more in the 1400 area, so I'll probably go for the 8130 with the 560M.
-
Anthony@MALIBAL Company Representative
I would definitely go with the 6990m model you configured. The only differences appear to be that you have the 560m and an SSD in one, and the 6990 and no SSD in the other.
Considering that replacing the GPU yourself is expensive compared to adding an SSD and that the 6990m is 2x the performance of the 560m, I'd say you'd be happier with the latter. Not only that, but adding an SSD is simple to do later and prices are always going down on those. -
the p151hm1 is the laptop i want. except i want something better than the gtx560m
-
what program do i use to oc the gpu and/or the cpu?
-
I'm trying to achieve that

Thank you for the information
. Now with this 5th post I can pm ! yay

Hey notebook resellers I want to know quick if I cancel my order at xotic.
They don't let you ship to a different shipping address from your billling address even though amazon and ebay let me do that all the time.
I know malibal is the same way as xotic pc.
I want to buy the 180watt psu, any of you guys let me buy stuff from a different shipping billing address?
Reason being is it's a 100 mile drive, and that's not too fun to do since I am staying in this house for the time being at university. -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
All you have to do, for most resellers, is call your credit card company and ask them to put a memo in your record that you authorize shipping to the alternate address. The reseller can then verify it with your credit card company and everything should be fine. Otherwise, I don't think any reseller, other than the one you bought your laptop from, will ship to an address that is different from your billing address. -
Bought the laptop from xotic, but then I was at home when I did that, so there weren't any problems. I guess I can make the drive this time, then next time I get something I'll verify this address. I mean I am going home this weekend anyway, I just hope Xotic is quick, I picked USPS priority. I don't see what the big deal is though with verified shipping/billing crap.
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
In the real world people are trying to commit identity theft and fraud on a daily basis. This is how they do it. They get your billing information, and then have the vendor ship to a different address...totally unbeknown to the actual card holder.
Ever wonder why ALL custom builders do this the same way? It is because we are protecting the card holder, and ourselves, from misuse of the credit card. -
But Amazon and ebay don't require this :? I mean I get what you mean, but I think it's a bit excessive for like a power supply. For the whole system like the laptop yeah I can see why.
-
Hi Jiggly, we can ship to an address other than the billing address.

D'aw too late D:
I purchased it like 20 minutes before you posted and then I had to go to class, and by then Xotic was in phase 2.
I paid 150$ at xotic pc with 1 day shipping because I am going back on weekend. (Overnight shipping is like 50$ + 10$ tax because I wanted it quick and no nebraska shipping)
Bad idea, but on your site it wouldn't let me :/ or is this like exception?
Wish you posted a bit sooner ;'(
It's highly unlikely Xotic would let me cancel it now :/ Though I'll throw in an email and see if I can, but it's pretty unlikely.
EDIT:
Xotic called me up and are shipping it to my current address
That's awesome support.
-
What would be the maximum operating temperature the gtx560m can comfortably operate in? I'm not talking about max temps before the gpu starts to throttle down, I'm talking max safe levels....
-
Below 90c is perfectly good.
-
around 80-85 c
-
Do you know if this is for debit cards? I called Chase and the rep was clueless. I also called Am-Ex (non debit card) and they too weren't aware of this "notes" or "memo" section. I've been trying to get an alternate shipping address on my credit cards for years and none of the reps knew what I was talking about. Have you actually done it?
-
There may not be someone available to accept delivery at a their home during normal business hours. Fed-EX, UPS, and the USPS have been known to leave high dollar items unattended on people's doorstep. Shipping to one's job would be a better option for those folks.
-
I've read several (a few) reviews on the 8130. Most reviewers say that for the price of the 8130 that there are cheaper more powerful alternatives out there. But none of the reviewers actually name a single alternative. Ive been looking too and I cant find one. Are reviewers just full of it?
Heres one article that stated such:
Clevo Horize P151HM1 Cheaper than most, but average overall
-
About the PSU topic.
Clarification:
Xotic called me up and are shipping it to my current address
That's awesome support. -
Mr_Mysterious Like...duuuuuude
$1800 for those specs? What, did they put a 256GB SSD in there?
You can get it for a lot cheaper on most resellers' sites. And yes....imo, that review(er) is full of it.
Mr. Mysterious -
In reading the article you'll notice the price they post is much higher than it actually is. $1799 would be a lot to pay for the NP8130 today with the 560M gpu, especially when you can get it from Malibal, LPC, Xotic, etc for 1400 or so. For $1799, you could get the 8150 with a 580M GPU. It would be hard to find an Alienware, Asus, etc with the same specs in the same price range.
I've done the research, and from what I can find a Sager/Clevo is the most powerful laptop you can find for the money... not to mention whoever you buy it from will probably provide better service than you'd get with a Dell, HP, etc. -
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
^^^^I think that reseller is in Australia, they do cost more there I am pretty sure...
_ -
Thank you both. The highest I've recorded it getting up to is 72 degrees in Unigine Heaven 2.5 at stock speeds, so I have some room to work with and overclock. =D
-
Is this portable enough and silent enough for school?
I've seen the review of the np8130 and the dv6z. If it's around the same size as the dv6 then I'm more than fine with that. I couldn't tell how thick it was compared to it though.
I'm coming from a 14" dv4-1155se that had the loudest fans I've ever heard on a laptop and was hot enough to burn a hole through the desk.It didn't feel as portable as a 14" laptop should of because of the fat battery haha.
I'm mainly worried about the fan noise on the NP8130, I could not use the dv4 in class it was just way too loud.
I've read that it's not too loud, but just need someone to put me at ease. -
Anthony@MALIBAL Company Representative
It's definitely not loud for school productivity tasks. It should be nearly silent if you're just web browsing or typing notes, unless your ambient temps are really high. It will get noticeably louder if you plan to game in class or something though
(it's about as loud as conversational speaking at full tilt under load)
As for heat, it's a pretty cool running machine. The external casing never gets hot to the touch, though the fan area on the rear has toasty output (they are the exhaust fans after all).
EDIT: For size:
Height: 1.38-1.69 inches
Width: 14.80 inches
Depth: 10.08 inches
Weight: 6.83 pounds with Battery
The AC adapter is another 1.4lbs or so. -
Sure is, I use it in lecture and in class all the time. Of course it is a major distraction, but all laptops are.
The np8130 isn't too loud, it's maybe a bit louder than other laptops, but it's by no means distracting. -
Also, anyone know if you get a 2920xm for this laptop, is it overclockable on this laptop?
-
Anthony@MALIBAL Company Representative
No, it's not unfortunately. The HM65 chipset in this model does not allow you to overclock. You'd need at least the HM67 chipset in the P170HM to use the unlocked multiplier. -
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
Yes this is what many owners are saying about this model. Thanks!
_ -
That's kind of lame
Thanks for letting me know. I'll put my money in investing into the gpu then. -
Which, if your main use for the laptop is gaming, you should be doing anyways as 99% of modern games are bottlenecked by the GPU, not the CPU
. For gaming, a 2630 QM would be more than enough. The CPU is never the problem, and hence, even if you over clock it to insane amounts, you won't be getting substantial differences in any applications except benchmarks and rendering/editing/processing programs.
-
My shiny new NP8130 arrived yesterday, and already it appears I may have a (self inflicted) problem.
The machine seems wonderful. Specs are Core i7-2820QM cpu, 8GB 1600MHz RAM, 750 GB HDD on top of the base model. The 95% gamut matte screen is beautiful, with no dead pixels. Keyboard feels fine to me.
Unfortunately, after updating the drivers, installing Microsoft Office 2010, Firefox, ZoneAlarm, Avast, and a couple of other programs including a 32-bit legacy database adapted with a customized 64-bit installer, I decided it would be a good idea to do a full virus scan. Bad move, I now think.
Avast identified two "infected" items: sysWoW64 and WINSXS. In a bit of shock, I deleted them without taking the time to investigate further. Dumb move, I totally admit. Just wasn't thinking.
Now it's looking like Avast gave me a false positive, and I may have deleted essential Windows files. Firefox and a couple other programs are no longer running, boot-up behavior is strange, etc.
I tried a system repair with the included recovery disk, but that did not seem to make any difference. My thought now is that I probably ought to take the recovery disk and just reinstall Windows from scratch, then the drivers, etc. However, before I do anything rash (again) I thought I would see if others have any suggestions.
Any help would definitely be appreciated. -
Mr_Mysterious Like...duuuuuude
I'd just go ahead and do a fresh install. This is very odd, usually no machines are supposed to come with viruses.
But it seems to me that you did a virus scan AFTER downloading some programs, so my advice is to be careful where you download from.
Mr. Mysterious -
After doing some searching, sysWoW64 is described as a Windows file that allows the 64-bit version to run 32-bit programs. I am guessing it was included in the installer for the legacy database. I don't think it actually was a virus- rather Avast gave a false alarm and I spooked.
I figure I don't have much to lose with a fresh install since I've only had the machine running a couple of hours. However, I do wonder-
-what about the THX speaker software- I don't see that on the driver disk?
-and actually I am not finding the Windows product key on the recovery disk or any materials. I'm hoping I will not have problems when I install. Am I looking in the wrong place? -
Mr_Mysterious Like...duuuuuude
-Depends on which reseller you chose from...but it should be on the driver disk. Do a little more digging. If you can't find it, email your reseller.
-That should be on the underside of your laptop.
Mr. Mysterious -
Thank you so much!
-
If you have the same driver disk as me, there is the "drivers" section of the disk, but then there is an "extras" section, and that contains more drivers, like the THX ones.
