I wonder if sager/xotic will ever have a 15.6 120hz lcd. Imagine game mode and like <8ms of input lag. That will be a quake live gamer's dream.

Babyhemi posted a great link there. The primary differences:
    P151HM1:
    120W PSU
    Plastic chassis
Support for only the GTX 560M (with the 120W PSU)

    P150HM:
    180W PSU
    Rubberized chassis
    Support for 100W GPUs (6990M, 580M)

So is anyone else's touchpad messed up? Like on the top left of mine it is like sticky, but it's not dirty, it's like the layer for the top of the touchpad has gone out there, why...? I don't have any other laptops that have done this.

How portable is this laptop? Is it difficult to install the OS and drivers by yourself?

It's as portable as any other 15.6" laptop. It weighs just around 6 lbs, plus the power brick. The power brick is a bit chunky though, nearly actual brick sized. Battery life is ~2-3 hours on average, so you may need that brick most of the time. I carry the P150HM everyday to work and it's not bad at all if you keep it in a laptop backpack.

As for the OS install, that's simple. You can install Windows via a USB boot drive you create, or with the install DVD. The drivers disk comes with the machine and is as simple as clicking through each driver and installing it. It might take you an hour to get it all working. I would recommend using the Clevo Driver thread below to get the newest drivers instead of using the CD though.

Malibal, what's the point of getting a GT 555M optimus laptop (W150HR) if we get roughly the same battery life ? (users say around 3hrs)

How noisy is the P151HM1 while working (excel; word, light web browsing). Is it the kind of thing we can bring in a library without bothering our neighbors with the fan noise ?

    Thanks !

Users have reported that in doing light things like you mentioned above "(excel; word, light web browsing)" the fan noise is acceptable for the school room or a library setting.

These fans kick up or fluctuate when doing more CPU or GPU stressful applications and such.

This model the Sager NP8130/Clevo P151HM1 is not the model to get if you need 3hrs of battery life on a regular basis. :)

There is no point getting the gt555 optimus laptop, you'd prolly want like a m14x or w/e it's called from alienware if you want battery life.

It's power for the np8130 with ok battery life, or good performance and good battery with the m14x.

It's for the reasons others have already pointed out mostly. That and the difference in cost are big reasons- some are unable to spend the extra on higher models.

Optimus should theoretically be able to increase battery life to 4-6 hours, but it just hasn't been able to turn in those numbers on these models. Also, the fact that the W150HR comes with a smaller battery than the P150HM or P151HM1 keeps the lead from being wider. If they had similar batteries, you'd see almost an extra hour or two on the W150HR.

Anyone else's np8130 making the shutoff noise/ turn on noise every now and then? My laptop keeps doing it every like half hour, and it started like a few days ago.

Like you know that little squeek the laptop makes when you power it on? It keeps making that noise, weird.

Do you by chance have one of the hybrid drives in your machine? We have some people here in our office that have reported that same thing but it doesn't affect the performance of the machine. If it bothers you, you can probably get that replaced if it is under warranty by contacting your reseller.

Actually I do have the hybrid drive. D'aw that sucks, well I need to RMA the laptop anyway for the red afterimage LCD and the battery hinges that mysteriously broke.

Thanks for the response. It is kind of annoying, but with all the other problems might as well take care of it with one swoop.

Weird thing is, is that it started doing it like the first time yesterday and it doesn't seem like it's going to stop.
Also xotic is my reseller :)

Yeah I was one of the guys at the office that had the squeaky hard drive. I can't really determine what causes it. My laptop hadn't done it in a while, but at least once a day while I'm at work I'd hear this little "squeak!" that sounds like it is coming from the hybrid drive.

Another thing to check right before you send it in is the firmware. SD28 is the latest.

The AMD 6990M is such a great deal in the 8150 right now if one can swing it. :)

And for NVIDIA, I'm stuck with the 560M for a budget video card? The 580M is just too expensive. Is the 560M an overclocking monster?

There is a decent amount of headroom for OC.

However, not to the capabilities of a stock 6990M or the 580M. :)

560m ocs nice mine went from:
    775 core , 1250mem to
    850 core and 1625 mem.

    Comparing the laptop to my other pc(not my i72600k @ 4.4ghz 2xgtx460) but to my qx6700 @ 3.33 ghz and 6 gigs of ddr2 ram and a slightly oc'd 3870x2, my np8130 did 14.5k in 3dmark06, while the pc did 15.2k

Could someone post maybe a 1-2 minute video of the CPU fan in action while web browsing, opening tabs etc. preferably an unthrottled i7? The Black Friday deals are so tempting but I keep reading about the fan going on and off, which drove me nuts with my last laptop.

Quick question. How is the onboard sound card on the NP8130? I am looking into buying a gaming headset, and I was wondering if the sound quality will be good if plugged into the 3.5mm plugs. If not, I would have to buy an external USB soundcard (which would be more expensive)
Also, if anyone knows a good headset, let me know, as I am in the market for one :D.
    Thanks in advance!

    Update with my 8130.

I bought Dead Island today (woo steam sale!) and my GTX560M shot up to 85~90 celcius when i started playing. I was playing on a hard surface and the room temperature is relatively cold (if that matters to anyone), so I am unable to determine why it shot up to this temperature. Has anyone else experienced this before? I bought my laptop from XoticPc if that matters to anyone.

    Thanks.

Edit: Non-Gaming GPU Temp: 43-48 Celcius.
    Non-Gaming CPU Temp: 33-50 Celcius.

How much of a load are you seeing on the GPU? That's high, but not unreasonably so if it's running at or near 100%. Did you enable FN+1 for max fans to see if that dropped the temps?

Why is not indicated in most reseller's website that only the 2760 CPU above can handle 1600MHz and 1866 of RAM? Or is it in the manual?

What is the height of the HDD caddy that can be purchased with this system? And what height of 2.5" drive is needed?

Is the 2670QM clock speed big of a difference compared to the 2630QM?

You just want to get a standard 12.7mm compatible HDD caddy. For the hard drive, you'd be looking at a 2.5" 9.5mm model.

The difference going from the 2630QM to the 2670QM is about 10%. The 2630QM has been discontinued in favor of the 2670 though, so it's slowly on it's way out.

Yes, they are. And the standard stock drive is a Seagate Momentus 500GB 7200RPM model (ST9500420AS). You can get others, this is just the most common :)

Hello! I am planning on buying this laptop from MALIBAL, and they give you the options of the IC 7 Diamond or the standard paste, as well as a 180W instead of 120W power adapter. Is it worth to get the IC 7 and 180W power for gaming and GPU/CPU intensive tasks like 3D modelling? Thank you in advance

IC Diamond over stock paste will make a difference of 3-6C on average. If you're working in high ambient temps or are consistently running tasks the keep the processor/GPU at high utilization, it's probably a good idea. You can always apply it yourself if you're comfortable opening up the machine.

As for the power supply, you won't need the 180w PSU unless you plan to upgrade the graphics card down the road. The stock 560m will not draw enough power to need the upgraded brick unless you decided to overvolt/overclock it which would potentially void your warranty anyway.

It will downlock the RAM to 1333 MHz since that is the max support of the 2670QM. You would have to go with the 2760QM for support of 1600 MHz and above. Hope this helps :)

That is correct, there will be no appreciable difference because it will be running at 1333Mhz. If you were to have gone with the 2760QM instead, you'd notice maybe a 5% increase overall in benchmarks. It was Intel's decision to limit the 2630/2670 from supporting anything over 1333 :(

Given that the 1600MHz RAM you're offering won't really make a difference with the 2630 CPU, do you think "downgrading" to the 8GB 4 SO-DIMMs for the $50 off is a better deal?

If that is PnP ram, then you should be able to run it at 1600 mhz with the 2630/2670qm if it does not exceed 8 gb. The hm65 chipset does not support ram overclocking, so if it is not PnP ram, then it won't work.

    Source:
According to this link, you can run up to 8gb (2x 4 gb sticks) at even 1866mhz with the 2630/2670qm, as long as it is PnP ram: Kingston HyperX 1866 PnP SODIMM Memory

However, if you attempt to use 16gb (4 sticks), then the ram will downclock to 1333mhz ram.

For another example, you can't even configure the m14x with the 2670qm from dellienware without at least upgrading to 1600mhz ram.

Huh? I just bought a 1333MHz Samsung RAM instead of going with the PnP Kingston RAM (which I really prefer) because of the fact that the 2630QM (my CPU) cannot handle more than 1333.

Resellers, can you confirm this? :(

After MANY agonizing weeks of research, hair pulling, and down right beating my head against the desk, I placed my order for a Sager 8130 with XOTICPC.
A big Thank You to J.P for his patience in answering my questions and upgrade suggestions. Now the wait begins..........

I got the Black Friday/Cyber Monday free upgrade to the 1600MHz myself today when I placed my order.

Would I have been better off going with the 12GB at 1333MHz versus the 8GB at 1600MHz?

I too would like clarification on this if possible. If there's an actual benefit to the 1600MHz ram used in the system as far as performance or quality, that's a plus. If it's just there for show and the system's infrastructure cannot make use of it, that's another matter entirely.
