Good luck Sneakin, I just placed my order with Malibal on their version of that machine. We'll both have our fingers crossed, yeah?

Nice. I have to agree with you there, a good computer is a gift that keeps on giving. :)

Just make sure they don't get you Skyrim or they will never see you again!

Urmystlkal .. I know the feeling. That same thought was one of the reasons I kept banging my head on the desk. Get one now or wait til the "next" model. Well, the next model comes out and then you hear about the next great thing to be released. IMHO, just go for it otherwise you will always be waiting for the next best thing.

Have they guaranteed a backlit keyboard on the new models?

As far as Optimus goes everything I've read about Optimus has been that it is good in theory but bad in practice. I've read that there are accounts of it randomly switching to the integrated graphics during intense gaming for no apparent reason.

Might not be worth it to wait for just those two things IMO.

I'm surprised anyone really cares about battery life in a laptop this size! I don't even feel comfortable calling it a laptop. As long as the battery can keep it running as I move from one outlet to another I'm happy :D

Is it still squeaky?? Sorry about that. I don't think Sager will do a trade-in for an upgrade but we can definitely check. Let us know when you're ready to RMA it and we'll iron out the details with Sager. Most of the time we're restricted to RMA the same model though.

Well urmystlkal, I had the same problem. Thing is? School starts for me in January and I've been waiting about 3 years for a laptop. I just needed to pull the trigger and Malibal's Black Friday special was exactly the deal on the right machine that I had been waiting for.

The screen is of great quality and very bright, I've heard that it's bright enough to not need the backlit keyboard. And johnnypoopoopants's comment about Optimus being a hit or miss is a valid concern. Will they be able to fix any possible bugs and let Optimus run the way it's meant to? That's a valid question.

It all boils down to what you are going to use the machine for. Like for me, I had a choice between a Intel wireless card with Bluetooth, or the Bigfoot wireless card. I am planning on playing Borderlands and Borderlands 2. If I needed Bluetooth badly, I can just get a USB adapter for the laptop. It will cost money, but it's not something I am sure that I will need. Whereas I know that I will make use of the Bigfoot card's features.

Would I like the extra battery life? Sure. But my priority is overall build quality and not having to compromise. So I got an extra battery for my laptop instead of trying to find another machine that gets an extra hour of battery life while making design or quality sacrifices.

That's the kind of analysis and cost-benefit thinking you do to cut away the extraneous details and see what you are really looking for. If you make it about curb appeal, you're going to get burned out trying to decide what to wait for. Patience pays off, but you have to cut away the unnecessary details to make the right decision for you. Anyone can do it, it just requires changing the thought process involved in your decision making.

    Here's a few strange questions about P151HM1.

How does the laptop deal with dust?

I will be connecting the laptop to an external monitor and shutting the lid. Will the heat produced have any bad side affects towards the screen?

For dust, you'll have to clean the vents out every so often with a can of compressed air (how often depends on the amount of dust around you). Working with the lid closed shouldn't affect the screen at all, but it will raise the overall system temps a tad. The machine pulls some of the air through the keyboard, so keeping the lid closed will stifle that a bit.

Quite a bit of dust actually gets collected in the np8130. I popped the cover open after about 5-6 months and it was a fair bit dusty.

I generally recommend going through it at least once (if not twice) a year to clear out the dust for most environments. Some can get more dusty than others. As Malibal suggested, a good can of compressed air should get a lot of that taken care of.

I don't generally recommend using the laptop with the lid closed since some of the intake is through that keyboard. In the tests we have seen, the machines tend to get extremely warm when you do that.

Wow this thing is quiet... On my last notebook (XPS 15) the fan would ramp up from 0-3000rpm every time I opened a new tab, but on the NP8130 there's a consistent and quiet hum, just the way I like it. Unfortunately it shipped with some wrong parts but once that's sorted out I'll be back with a full review!

I'm more interested in battery life for this machine. I just ordered one which I will use for software development. I don't play computer games at all so I'd rather permanently disable the NVIDIA graphics card on this. Malibal didn't have an option to order the laptop w/o the nvidia, or I'd have gone for that to shave some $ off the price. But even with the NVIDIA card the price was worth it, even if I am able to disable the NVIDIA.

Anyone know if you can just remove the graphics card from the laptop? If we can't find a way to enable/disable via a software or BIOS setting I am willing to uninstall the graphics card from the laptop and use the i7's onboard graphics.

These models are not capable of using the integrated graphics. The display is hardwired to the Nvidia/AMD card and the integrated graphics chip is not connected to anything. If you removed the GPU, you would never be able to get an image on the screen.

Only the W150HR and lower are enabled with Optimus, which makes use of the Intel graphics and the Nvidia card.

I am going to be buying a gaming headset soon, and I have a question. How good is the on-board sound card on the np8130? I am only wondering because if the on-board sound isn't that good, then I will need to get a headset with a dedicated USB card, but if it is good, then I can save myself some money and just get a 3.5mm connecting headset. Anybody have any ideas?

building off of what babyhemi posted, you'll want to make sure the drive is a 12.7mm drive. You can use that to limit down your searches to only relevant drives. :)

The onboard sound card on these machines is actually pretty good. The more common complaints I see are about the onboard speakers, but when connecting a good headset or external speakers the audio is great.

Hey guys, I have an 8130 with a 460M and I think it's running really hot, been happening since I got it. It reaches 99C on League of Legends on medium, 1600x900, getting anywhere from 50fps to 15 fps. And similar temps with any game I run at almost every resolution. Have to play skyrim on medium and get around 20-30 fps. I've had it for a while now..

That's definitely not good. Temps that high are almost sure to cause premature failure of the GPU and/or surrounding parts. Are the fans clean and running (and do they have airflow- aka, are you on a hard and level surface)? Does FN+1 make a difference in temps? You may also want to examine the heatsink/heatpipes for obvious damage as well as possibly repaste the GPU.

Whether you are able to repaste or not, I'd contact your retailer asap and see if they can get you an RMA.

99c might not be too bad, well not sure how comparable this is but my old 8400mgs in my old vostro 1310 did like 110c and it still works to this day. It throttled at that temp tho, I had to go do a x clamp like modification to fix it, dell I rma'd 3 times and didn't fix it. All they did was break 3 usb ports. (I've had it for like 4 years now)

Though Sae might wana pop the back off and just clean the heatsinks with q tips or just blow compressed air everywhere outside.

I disagree on the audio quality, it's very average. I hooked up a x-fi hd usb and it sounds quite noticibly better. The onboard audio also does not put out a very strong signal so my 250ohm headphones are extremely quiet. My phone inspire 4g can atleast make it loud. Plugging into desktop x-fi xtreme music no need for amp.

Luckily x-fi hd usb has built in headphone amp, but I don't lug it around.

Still the audio quality with normal like 40ohm headphones is ok, but a x-fi sounds a bit better.

    Hi there!

I am looking to purchase the NP8130, but had a few questions before unloading.

    1. I am an Australian, who is migrating to Canada. I will be staying in the states for 12 days or so with family. Since my billing address is different, can I have the laptop sent to the house in Thousand Oaks, Cali?

    2. I am trying to decide on the screen to get. I have seen that many people have the Red ghosting issue with the 95% Gamut Matte screen, and I do not want to have to RMA the machine because of the screen. What is the 95% Gloss like? is it worth the $95 dollar upgrade?

    3. I was wondering if there were any good deals for NBR members? I am only on a limited budget and want to get the best deal possible :)

    4. What is the point of upgrading the Wireless card? Does anyone have any real world results, and what will I gain by upgrading?

    I am looking at getting:

    Display: 15.6" 1920 x 1080 FHD LED AUO B156HW01 V.7 95% NTSC Glossy Display
    Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-2670QM, 6MB L3 Cache, 2.2-3.1GHz
    Memory: (16GB) 16384MB, PC3-10660/1333MHz DDR3 - 4 SO-DIMM
    Graphics Card: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 560M 1.5GB GDDR5
    Hard Drive: 320GB 7200rpm 2.5" SATA-300
    Optical Drive Bay: 750GB 7200rpm 2.5" SATA 300
Wireless: Internal 802.11B/G/N LAN and Bluetooth Card
Cooling: IC Diamond 7 Thermal Compound, CPU & GPU
    Keyboard: English: US & Canada
    Power Cord: US & Canada
    AC Adapter: Full Range AC-in 100~240V, 50~60Hz, 120W AC Adapter, DC output 20V, 6A

    Cheers!

I put my order in on Monday at xoticpc.com. It won't get here till next week, right before I have to go on a trip. The wait is killing me.
