Did you try the "clean installation" option when installing the latest video card drivers? Sometimes that can help a bit :)

I used whatever was on the disc that the sager came with. I don't remember being a "clean installation" option, but if it's there, I probably didn't check it. Should I try reinstallling the drivers?

I've still got a few more weeks to mess with it, but if I can't figure it out by the end of the month then I'm going to have to return it :( I love everything about the notebook except for these issues, of course.

    Edit:
While running SC2 in Ultra (alt tabbed) RealTemp shows
    2200 MHz
Load 6.5% -- has jumped to 13% max, but averaging 6-7%

    99.77 x 22.8

    Temp 43/28/41/41
    Distance to TJ Max 59/61/60/59
    Minimum 37/34/35/35
    Maximum 57/59/60/58

Try the newest ones from Nvidia's website, they should have the clean installation option.

I did that and it seems to have fixed the issues. Getting 60fps on ultra sc2 now. Still only getting 18-20 on Very High skyrim, but 30-35fps on High with AA off is acceptable.

For some reason both windows update and the sager website have older drivers listed as the most recent ones available.

Thanks. I'm back to being in love with the laptop.

hey guys, got my 8130 yesterday and so far i LOVE it, accept when i got on today my gfx card kept ing up and then restarting itself saying that the problem was fixed but the video kept cutting in and out, then bluescreened. (i had the newest drivers from nvidia's website) so i restarted in safe mode cause it kept doing it, and did a clean install off the original drivers from the disc and everything seems to be running fine.

this questions has probably been asked before but i couldn't find it anywhere. But what is the average idle temp and load temp for the GPU in celsius? at idle i am between 40-50 degrees. thanks for all the help!

Were you running the newest Beta drivers or the released WHQL drivers? The Beta drivers have been known to be unstable at times. As for your temps, those are fine for idle. Load temps should stay in the mid 80's or lower on average as well.

I just received my np8130,and it works.im planning to have a clean install of windows,so im currently downloading an windows7 home premium.
the only thing that i noticed on this laptop,is when i put the fan on max (Fn+1), the fan goes like zzzzzzzzzz-zzzzzzzzzz-zzzzzzzzz..there are very short pauses like its catching its breath.i mean is that normal, coz i was thinking maybe it should be going like zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...no pauses.can anyone confirm if this is normal or not?the pauses are really very short, just like a blink of an eye.im just worried,i dont want to have a problem to my new lappy. :)

    thanks!

The fan pulsing is normal. It's just the way the EC (embedded controller) handles fan activity. It won't pulse as much when you have it under full load either (versus idle with FN+1).

So like 3 months ago I have acquired this laptop (Sager 8130) from malibal, no problems, the laptop was ok, and all the components was working right, the last night I was in a starcraft 2 long session, like 5 hr and I accidentally left the AC Adapter over the bed, so when i finished it was very very HOT, and smelled weird, so today, I was playing BF3, and the charger was on the floor, like i always use it, and after like 3/4 hrs the laptop turned off, and the adapter was making a little loud noise and again it was veeery hot, immediately i plugged off the AC adapter and well, im afraid that the AC adapter is death... what can i do?, the adapter for asus g74/g73 could fit for this laptop power needs as well? ( http://shop.asus.es/shop/CatalogImages/es-ES/90-XB06N0PW00050Y/P_1000.jpg with the correct us wall plug...)
or should I better use the original ( http://laptop-ac-adapter-inc.com/images/img2/G73-ADAPTER.jpg)

I suppose that the Asus one must be more power efficient, less hotter, and less bulky...

You will want to get the adapter that the manufacturer sells. The ASUS adapter will not work with the Sager machines, and you are always better going with the manufacturer's option since it is designed for the machine.

I have a question... I was wondering if anybody here has the NP8130 with the 460m that also has been able to run Diablo 3 Beta on it...

Part two to this question would be that.... If you did have those two things, have you tried updating your video card drivers to the 285.62 - WHQL from the Nvidia site...?

Cause I updated mine to the new driver and it seems to be only in the Diablo 3 beta that while running, my character is just skipping frames. At first I thought it was maybe a server issue with Battle.net because they were having server related issues. But I tried it on my desktop and there was no character skipping. So I decided to re-download the drivers from the sagernotebook.com website and perform a clean install with the older driver version that was considered the most "current" driver that sager has to offer on their site. And the skipping had went away. Remembering that I did not perform a clean install on the first time I had upgraded the drivers to the 285.62 - WHQL drivers from the nvidia site, I decided to re-install them this time performing a clean install as well. That brought the skipping back.

So I guess my question is: Is anybody else having related issues like me? Am I not supposed to be using the drivers from Nvidia?

Some things to note: I was getting a tad bit better framerate with the nvidia drivers over the sager drivers, but I was receiving that skipping issue. I also tried other games with the nvidia drivers and did not encounter any issues similar to the ones I encountered with Diablo 3 Beta.

Hey guys, I have have my NP8130 for over a month now and I am loving it. I did notice there is a new driver update for the 560m on Nvidia's site. Right now I have a sager one. Should I download the newest version from Nvidia? Is there a difference between one from Sager and one from Nvidia. I currently have 8.17.12.8530. The nvidia new one is 285.62 WHQL. Thanks for the help, I just don't want any problems.

You can use any 120watt PSU. I don't know the specs of the Asus PSU, so I can't say wether or not it will work. If you don't want your PSU to get really hot you should look into upgrading to a 180 PSU, you won't be stressing it so it shouldn't get as hot.
I suppose that the Asus one must be more power efficient, less hotter, and less bulky...
This happens to touch pads. I don't believe the touchpad is user-serviceable, but most everything is on a sager, maybe a reseller can chime in on this. Otherwise, use a mouse! ( if it's really that bad.)

    Hi all,

Does anyone know if 95 degrees celsius is a normal temperature for a 560M while gaming? I have been experiencing slowdowns while gaming recently and I noticed that my fan was really loud during such slowdowns. I used hardwaremonitor to check the GPU temperature and it was running at around 92-96 degrees.

    Is this normal?

    Thanks for your advice!

    Those temperatures are not normal.

Are you gaming on a soft surface (ie. cloth)? Make sure to only game on hard surfaces.

If you are getting those temperatures on a hard surface, then you can try clearing out the vents or repasting the gpu or propping up the back of the laptop with an object.

You can also try running with the fans fully maxed (fn+1), but the laptop will sound like a vacuum.

Those temps are quite high. Normally, 70-80's C are what would be expected from the 560m. Over 95C is something I'd call your retailer about.

As was previously suggested, make sure you're using it on a hard level surface and that the fans are running (and clean). If that doesn't help, you may want to consider repasting the GPU as well.

What are your ambient temperatures like? Are they relatively high?

Just got my NP8130 and when I popped up the back cover of the laptop I saw no RAM sticks in the two slots there. I'm assuming they're installed in the slots under the keyboard. I've read the manual and it states that when using two sticks only you should use the ones in the easily accessible area (not under the keyboard) as they are the "primary" slots. Why did Sager install my RAM kits under the keyboard then?

    Thanks for the fast responses!

Yes, I've been running my laptop on a hard table surface. Ambient temperatures are around 22c so I don't think there should be a problem. I suspect I will need to repaste the GPU. Is artic silver still the gold standard, or should I use another brand of thermal paste?

the P150HM and the P151HM use the same chipset, so they have compatible bios. infact the only real difference between the two is the texture of the case. That and the P150HM is offered with more graphics card upgrades ( but the P151HM has the same compatibility gpu-wise).

Both of these models have the same motherboard. Basically the 8130 and 8150 are the same except for the exterior finish and the PSU.

What you are seeing in the bios is correct. :)

Arctic Silver 5 is good, though remember it will have some curing time before you get optimal temps. IC Diamond is what most retailers use, though if you already have the arctic silver on hand I'd try that before buying anything.

Nope, that's correct. The P150HM and P151HM1 both use the same motherboard. The only physical differences between the two machines is in the stock screen, power supply size, and chassis materials. The P151HM1 is basically a bare model with a smaller power supply (for lower overall cost).

Also, in the manual it is stated that the USB 2.0 port located in the left side of the laptop can provide power even when the system is off. I tried plugging my iPhone while the laptop is off but why doesn't it charge?

Is the DVI-port of this laptop dual-link DVI? Please confirm as dual-link DVI is required if you plug that DVI output to a 120Hz 3D external panel.

    Hello all!

Posting to join the bandwagon. I ordered a Sager NP8130 from powernotebooks.com a few days ago and am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my new toy. I ordered it too late to use for my holiday traveling sadly, but it should come in handy when my pregnant wife needs to move around the house to get comfy.

Did you use the hotkey to enable the charging feature? (FN + Power button). Did you try using a non-Apple USB device? I've only seen complaints with this for people using iPhones in the past, which makes me think they either use a non-standard pin configuration or draw more than the available wattage. The manual points out that not all devices work this way:

As for the DVI port- yes it is Dual link DVI as listed in the manual :)

Ok. Fn + 1 is only used for loaded events anyway, right?

Are Fn + 1 and Fn + Power button only the two combinations that are not listed in the manual of the NP8130?

I don't think FN + 1 is listed, but the FN + power button is in the manual. You might have an older copy though, so use the link below for the newest manual. All the other hotkeys I know about are listed there.

Yes and no. It is noticeable to an extent without max fans, but you really have to listen hard to hear it. With the newest Bios update, it should be nearly removed. At max fans though is when it's most obvious, especially if you do FN + 1 when at idle. It becomes less and less as you stress/heat up the CPU/GPU.

Ok. So how about when gaming, is it noticeable? I haven't had the chance to test it because I'm still in the process of updating drivers with my new OS.

Which BIOS update are you talking about? Is it unreleased yet?

How can one access the RAM slots under the keyboard? Is it really hard?

By the way, this is an important information for all potential buyers of these laptops. Resellers please take note of this:

The Kingston Plug-and-Play Memory 1600MHz kits CAN WORK at rated 1600MHz with the 2670QM in an NP8130 laptop even though Intel states that that CPU can only accommodate 1333MHz. This is the info that I was asking here at NBR before buying but unfortunately I found it on another forum site and I'm glad that it did work despite me not being 100% sure it will. Here is the proof:

Thanks for testing this! I've read that people have gotten >1333 mhz pnp ram to work with the 2630 and 2670, but people in the Sager/Clevo subforum kept saying that it wouldn't work.

Exactly. I asked this many times here in this very thread and I kept having a NO for an answer. I guess they don't verify some things that aren't listed out of the fine print.

    @all

What is the main purpose of Fn + 1? Is it a turbo boost to fan speed? I mean even without the switch, the fans will automatically ramp up as temperature increases, right? So what then is the purpose of turning it on?

The newest Bios update should be shipped with any new model standard. If you have a Clevo based model, you can grab it from here otherwise:

The RAM under the keyboard isn't too hard to get to. You have to remove the bottom cover and battery and then push up the plastic trim piece under the speakers. There are slots on the bottom of the laptop to push through to remove it. From there, you can unscrew and remove the keyboard to get to the RAM. Here is a link to the service manual (thanks to Theriko for it):

All it does is put the fans on max speed. Normally they adjust automatically based on temps. The only purpose is to push down idle temps and/or make the fan noise constant (not on/off).
