Hi everyone ! What should I do if my newly bought Sager 8130 (just got it for Christmas) overheats as soon as it boots up? It beeps 4 times then shuts off, but if I put my fan on it, it stays on, I even got windows 7 installed that way. I have i7 2670, Diamond compound, 8gb ram 4*2gb, and 540M graphics. It's been a very stressful and sad Christmas because of this present :(

You do mean the 560M right?

It is a definite hardware issue you are having. It is best at this time not to turn it on at all as it does need to be looked at asap.

If you do not feel confident taking the bottom cover off to check your heatsinks and other hardware to see if things are put together right and such then call or email your dealer or reseller.

    Yes even on Christmas! :)

Ah yes, 560M, sorry. ^^ I did check all the memory, and also loosened and reattached the heatsinks and fans. Now it loads to windows then it beeps for a long period and turns off. It's really frustrating since I need it for college next week also and cannot RMA cause I live in the Caribbean.

In my laptop, I already have the newest Sager BIOS and EC firmware update in that thread you provided but the pulsing is still there when I press Fn + 1 while surfing. Is the Sager firmware supposed to have all the updates from the Clevo firmware including the fan table update?

So technically, Fn + 1 isn't needed at all if I'm satisfied with my idle temps? Without Fn + 1, my fan speed would ramp up to max when it is fully loaded, right?

Thanks for the link on the how to access the RAM slots :)

Correct. It's totally unnecessary unless you really want to use it. It will always pulse at idle or under low power tasks, and will do so less under load. The fans are automatic, so if you're satisfied with your temps, you'll never need to bother with it.

Is the VGA BIOS of this laptop upgradable?

    Hi!

I installed the latest nvidia driver (285.62), and i saw in the programs and features that there is the Nvidia 3D Vision Driver 285.62. I read in some forum that you can remove this (which i prefer if its harmless) if your not planning to use this laptop for 3d viewing. It was also mentioned that the Nvidia Update 1.5.20 can also be removed without negative effects in the performance of the 560m. I just wanna ask if this is true?is it really safe to remove these?

    Thanks guys!

Is it normal for the keyboard to have a "louder" noise in the area around the main Enter key compared to those in the left and right most edges keys? It's hard to explain but when I type keys like l, right shift, Enter, etc. the noise is louder. I think it's a normal sound but it's definitely more noticeable in that area.

It's not something I've noticed in my own machine, but there was a thread where a few people had mentioned it and a quick fix for it:

Thanks. It was also my initial hunch that the keyboard metal is touching the plastic underneath. I may have to try that solution. I type very fast and the noise kinda gets to my attention quickly let alone when I bring this to the office :)

Not sure if i should ask this here, but I don't really know where else to ask it.

Yesterday, I got a new gaming headset (Razer Carcarias) and it works great, except for one thing.

In the Realtek audio manager software that comes with the np8130, it is possible to change the sound to virtual 5.1 surround. While doing normal things like web browsing and listening to music, this is unnecessary and can be kept in just stereo mode. Well, when I go into a game (BF3) in stereo made, the sound is good, it just has very little depth or direction in stereo mode. When I switch it to 5.1 virtual surround while playing, it is much more immersive.

Anyways, when I am in game with the 5.1 surround, it is completely normal, yet the problem is when I got back to watching videos or livestreams, the sound quality becomes extremely hollow an underwatery. This does not happen when listening to music, just watching videos through my browser.

I realize that this isn't necessarily a huge problem, but it would be nice not to have to switch my audio mode every time I go from gaming to web browsing. I know that this isn't a problem with my headset or computer, because everything works, just not in certain apps and settings.

Any suggestions? The headset itself doesn't have any drivers that I could re-install or update, so I was wondering if maybe the np8130 had some audio drivers that could be updated or something? If someone could point me out to those that would be great.

Also, I do find it weird that this only happens while watching videos on my browser, not on music or games.

Sorry for long post, I am just trying to get some help. Thanks in advance!

The 192-bit GTX 560M 1.5GB in my system is better than the 128-bit GTX 560M 2GB on other systems, right?

    Correct...you will have more bandwidth with 192bit w/1.5GB than 128bit w/2GB.

Yep. Not only do you have more bandwidth, as was pointed out, but in all actuality the frame buffer is rather insignificant. Unless you're playing on an external monitor well above 1080p, that excess frame buffer probably goes unused. Most discrete cards only have ~1GB, so the difference between the 1.5 and 2 is very small in real world usage. On the stock screen, the higher bandwidth 1.5GB model will probably win in every benchmark.

After waiting for the entire day I finally got my laptop!!! :D

Quick question, the OS was already installed and works fine, but dont I have to activate it? How do I do that? And do I need to install all the drivers from the drivers disk or is it fine right out of the box?

EDIT: found a windows balloon and activated it.

One thing that bugs me is the sharp colors of my screen. @.@ I'm probably not used to it yet, but colors are really poppy. Making things look brighter than the screen actually is. Is there a way to turn it down?

Edit: nvm im fiddling with nvidia control panel but I still cant quite get it to something that is has a good color but is not so sore on the eyes.

Don't mean to interrupt your joy and happy hour, but is it possible if you can do a video review of your new NP8130? :p

And did you buy from MALIBAL or XoticPC?

Do these laptops ship directly from Sager with our configurations or do they go to the reseller first to get checked at and stuff then gets shipped to us?

As long as you are not in California your Sager NP8130 will almost always be shipped directly from Sager to you.

If you are in California, and the factory is in California, we ship to us first here in Nevada and then back to you. This way we do not have to collect California sales tax or recycling fee. If you are in Southern California the in transit time is 4 business days, and if you are in Northern California the in transit time is 3 or 4 business days depending on your exact location.

Ok, I'm sure it's already been said in the 400 something pages of this thread but how are owner's perceived battery life with the 8-cell and the GTX 560M? Mainly I want to know a ballpark for average use. Moderate brightness, web browsing, word processing. And then if people have tried it, watching a hi-def movie. Thanks very much.

hey P151HM1 users, I saw this vid Sager NP8130 Video Review by XOTIC PC - YouTube and the guy showed a bit of the BIOS. I saw that the bios does not really unlock all the advance menu.
Can anyone confirm this for me ? I want to be able to turn off hyperthreading but seems like there's no option in that video. And is the bios made by Insyde ?

Sounds like a possible RAM issue. Have you tried running Memtest86+ to check for errors?

Most customers I've talked to state you can get about 2 hours out of the laptop under the settings you specified above. Movie watching? I wouldn't expect more than probably 45 minutes to an hour to be honest.

The BIOS is pretty locked down. I know there aren't any CPU options, and hyperthreading wouldn't be listed on the BIOS unfortunately. I don't think the BIOS is made by Insyde, I think it is Sager directly who makes the BIOS.

Edit: Nevermind, American Megatrends AMI BIOS is what my productions crew is reporting.

I've run Memtest86+ 4.20 and found errors while testing the 2 modules simultaneously. Now I'm testing the modules individually. I'm done testing RAM1, 8 passes with no errors on slot 1 and 7 passes with no errors in slot 2. I'm currently testing RAM2 on slot 1.

I did notice some weird behavior though. When one module is installed, in slot 1, the CAS reported by Memtest86+ 4.2 is 9-9-9-27 and when one module is installed, in slot 2, it is 6-6-6-20. Why the difference?

As a matter of fact, I suppose the BIOS is made by American Megatrend, they are Aptio/AMI bios and is potentially unlocked. :) I'm looking through all the tools to hack it

Will definitely go through them again. If anyone has any advice or tips on things I should be doing or things I should get for this beast of a laptop, please let me know. I had my lappy since about April and now that the summer has come in Aus I've noticed the CPU getting really hot. Idle temps are about ~60 °C and under load (playing MW3 for instance, etc.) it averages ~95°C and even hits 100°C keeping in mind my fans are on full blast (Fn+1). My CPU is the i7-2620M.

Anyone else experiencing abnormally high temps? And would this be a thermal paste problem?

EDIT: Oh and my laptop has shutdown on me on several occasions now whilst playing COD.

Sounds like you need to clean it out if you have had it since April, and it is just doing these things recently.

Just open the bottom panel and blow everything out with a can of compressed air. Just be sure to hold the can straight up. If you need to tilt anything, tilt the computer, not the can so that it won't blow out liquid.

A vacuum seems to have done the trick! I opened the back panel and also unscrewed the fans and found a film of dust between the fan and the heatsink.

Idle temps ~50 °C and max load temps ~70 °C now without putting fan on full blast!

    Thanks for the help paladin44.

NEVER USE A VACUUM for electronic components, please. It can produce static electricity that CAN destroy some of the components. You are lucky that you did not break anything.

Instead, use a BLOWER for cleaning out computers. This is common knowledge :)

    Just FYI :)

Better than both is to purchase those cans of compressed air that you find at your general electronic store. That is the safest and most efficient option :).

I found this Metro Vacuum ED500 in amazon. Well it is not a vacuum, rather a really powerful blower. The only thing I will recommend is to get something to hold the fans when using it so it won't generate static in my opinion.
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001J4ZOAW/ref=ox_sc_act_title_6?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER

In the long run, I really think its better than buying lots of compressed air cans
Please check it out especially the reviews if you won't take my word for it

Correct. There are many computer enthusiasts using the same thing you've linked above.

they say np8130 can be upgraded to higher cards like the np8150,but you just have to buy a new PSU..but is that all you have to replace?or is it necessary to replace the heatsink along with the GPU upgrade?thanks!

I don't think its been asked before so my question is:

Is the OS included in the laptop an OEM or a RETAIL one?

Yes the heatsink does need to be the one designed for the upgraded card.

When you purchase the upgrade video card kit it DOES HAVE the heatsink too. :)

Hey has anyone else run into ghosting issues on the NP8130's? I bought it during August and contacted XoticPC and I'm going to send it back for a free fix. The weird thing is the last few days there was constant ghosting and today there is none. Anyone else experience this?
