Why is it that Sager 8130
(i7-2630,matte,8gb ram, gtx 560m,6230 wireless) is such a good deal?
If I configure a Sager NP5165, it cost ALMOST the same as the 8130 except with lower specs (GT555M,4gb ram). the only thing that is superior is the i7-2670

    Sager 5165 = $1064 (i7-2670,glossy,4gb ram, gt 555m ,6230 wireless)
    Sager 8130 = $1074 (i7-2630,matte,8gb ram, gtx 560m,6230 wireless)
Both with Win 7 home premium

I think that Sager 5165 should cost less than $1000

There are currently a lot of good sales going on right now with the P151HM1 that are helping drive the price down. The same applies to the other more expensive models. That- combined with the fact that some are willing to pay a bit of a premium for Optimus and better battery life- helps even out the price.

Any NP8130 user experiencing the same keyboard rattling that is experienced here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/634198-p150hm-keyboard-rattling.html by the NP8150 users?

I already applied thin foams under the keyboard. It did minimize the rattle but did not eliminate it 100%. The rattle is also happening when the sound from the speaker is at max and you are playing movies/music.

Thank you. I guess its the Optimus+i7-2670 that evens out the price.

Hrmm my battery icon only shows the percentage of power remaining, but not the estimated time left.. odd. Any way that I can make it show?

Hmm I must be misinformed. It was my understanding that the 8130 and the 8150 both do not support/have optimus.

edit: nvm after a reread I see you are talking about the 5165...

In the Clevo BIOS thread, they say that most resellers here have access to different Clevo FTP sites. I just want to confirm what is the latest version of the VBIOS for the GTX 560M for this laptop?

I guess I could try an external program or gadget to show the time remaining.

Do they ship the 8130 with the latest drivers from nvidia ? latest bios?

I'm just trying to get as much information and reviews as I can before I buy an 8130. I'm planning on buying it maybe 2 months from now due to financial difficulties. And I'm trying to ensure that it will be so worth it because I'm shelling out $1000 ish

    For all resellers:
Is the Bigfoot Networks Killer Wireless-N 1103 all back-ordered for everybody?
    Any ETA for availability?

    Thanks.

From what I have gathered they are still on back order with varying ETA's. I just now called and changed my wireless card from the Bigfoot N-1103 to the Intell N-6300 mainly because I'm tired of waiting, and from what I have read, there is not that much of an advantage to having the 1103 unless you also upgrade to the 3 antenna router.

A lot of things change between sellers etc, but VBIOS has never changed once since the 560m was released, those are all done by Clevo directly and there has only been one vBIOS change in this generation (That was for a quadro 5010m) so you have the latest version :p

    --UPDATE--
I was just notified by Hutsady ( Who took over for J.P ) that the Bigfoot N1103 cards arrived today. Thankfully my request to switch wireless cards had not yet been processed and I am still in line to receive the Bigfoot card. I have to give a shout out to both Justin & Hutsady ... Justin for taking the time to answer customer questions as an business owner, and Hutsady for his quick and courteous customer service.

It's just been superceded by the 2670QM which came out in the second Sandy Bridge release. The 2630 was a launch part while the 2670 is a higher clocked replacement.

The Intel® i7-2630QM will only be available until the existing stock is used up since Intel is not making them anymore since they have been replaced by the Intel® i7-2670QM.

Therefore it is very difficult to guess when all of the Intel® i7-2630QM will have been sold.

    Hey guys,

I got my laptop about 2 weeks ago, and have been mostly using it around the house, but today I wanted to game without the power plugged in and noticed a HUGE decrease in performance. I am running on high performance power settings. For example in Minecraft, when plugged in, I get around 90 FPS, but as soon as I unplug I get around 30 FPS. BF3 goes from smooth to unplayable. The effects of unplugging the power are instant, I can hear the fans slow down, and the system overall doesn't perform as well. I'll also mention that I've messed with the high performance settings so that they are identical plugged in or not.

    What could be causing this?

    Thanks!

    Hello and Happy New Year.

After countless hours of research online Im finally almost inclined to ask this fine community some questions before I go and take $1,300 USD from my bank.

Here are few questions and points I noted on XOTICPC forums, the traffic here on this page alone seems to outdue XOTICPCs whole forum :p (just teasing)

    1. Should I wait until after CES 2012 to buy. (biggest concern)

    2. Does XOTICPC have a new lineup of laptop hardware coming this year?

    3. What Im mainly looking out for is new barebone designs. I read of Clevos refreshing their chasis with back-lit keyboards, but I dont really care about that to be honest. But a new design would be preferable because the N8130 looks hella outdated frankly.

    4. Im predicting new Clevo models by 2nd Quarter of 2012 which is a bit too late for me, so I might go ahead and make my purchase next week, but are there any back orders on parts I should know about? (xoticpc)
I heard BigFoot wireless cards are back ordered.

    Thanks for reading!

    Hi ST4R,
Thanks for posting on our forums :) as you mention here is more traffic here but we can help either place.

CES always has new things coming but really shouldn't deter you from a notebook purchase. They'll show off some cool stuff but really for the consumer market like tablets, new HD TV's, new Cameras and such. High end computer components seem to work off a different schedule.

We will have new hardware coming this year but to be fair to all the other resellers who help on here it wont be Xotic PC specific. We all offer the latest/greatest CPU's, Graphics Cards, SSD etc. When you look at new computers coming this year there will be plenty refreshes as Intel, Nvidia, ATI and all the other manufacturers roll out their new/refreshed components.

Chassis designs will probably stay relatively the same. Sager likes the low key look and it appeals to some people but not others.

New models by Q2 seems about right, Thats when people are thinking the Ivy Bridge CPU's will start showing up. Once they do you'll see new models but if history is any indication the design of the chassis will pretty much stay the same. There might be some small changes like the NP8150 and its rubberized chassis. Guess we'll have to wait and see what comes out.

Stock level can and do vary. The BF 1103 just came back in. Off the top of my head the only thing that has a delay right now is the i7 2630QM, thats just hard to get as its been replaced by the 2670QM.

So I got my laptop today... first thing I see when I turn on is a Red Stuck Pixel!
What can I do? Is this permanent? It's kind of annoying when you are concentrating on your works.

As I expected. I see good things rolling out this year but performance wise I think things are rather going at a stable pace as is. I will go ahead and make my purchase within this week. Probably on Wednesday after seeing what CES will unveil.

Plus, I'm sure there is only a certain amount of information resellers and manufacturers are allowed to disclose to the public until the new features roll out.

But I figured "hey maybe Clevo will implement new speakers on their models or newer better LCD displays, etc etc..."
So that kind if has me hesitating too.

Like I said 2nd qt of 2012 is too late for me so I'll wait until just after CES :p

&N1L; where did you buy yours from? Did you get the 95% gamut increase?

You can try these steps to see if it helps:

5 Ways To Fix A Stuck Pixel On Your Screen
How to Fix a Stuck Pixel on an LCD Monitor - wikiHow

If it's red, that means that it is indeed stuck, but not dead. Dead pixels would be black and have almost no chance of being fixed. A stuck pixel can potentially be fixed via steps like the above. See if that helps you out at all.

A red pixel is worse than a dead pixel since the color stands out. Where is it located though? The only good news it that a stuck pixel has a better chance of being repaired.

I kinad feel sorry for ya since mine is perfectly fine.

Depending on where the pixel is a single one could be covered. If its in the middle section it is covered. To check make a tic-tac-toe board on your screen, if its within the middle one its should be covered under warranty. If not the try the methods Malibal #2 linked. Stuck pixels can sometimes be worked out that way.

I am trying this since last night, still no fix. : (
I am happy that there is a possibility for it to be fixed rather than a dead pixel, so I will keep trying.

I knew something like this was going to happen to me. Lol, I had dead/stuck pixel fixing links bookmarked before I opened my laptop.

First thing I see on bootup (black screen) a red pixel on lower left corner. It's visible almost on all backgrounds.

It's really not at the very center. But annoying at its highest while doing work that involves intense attention.

This is the exact reason I paid the few extra bucks for a dead pixel warranty. I have had screens before that had one in the upper corner and it drove me insane looking at it all the time. Best of luck to you

It's not typically an installed feature. While the Clevo shell has room and a mounting point for one, it's not standard. Most likely you have the physical location on the machine, but there just won't be anything there (either hardware or software).

Is anyone else getting horrible sound quality or is it just me? I'm not sure if this is the laptop's fault or if I'm missing something in the audio settings. I just upgraded from a Sony Vaio FW and compared to that, the audio quality is pretty bad. I'm using the same headphones for both (Sennheiser IE8).

The internal DAC isn't very good, if you want better sound quality an easy solution would be the Turtle Beach Micro 2, if you want audiophile quality, but portible look into the FiiO E7. AFAIK there is no way software can make a dac sound better, but I could be wrong.

If you are not talking about the speakers, then yes, you will need to power your headphone (or other devices) with an amplifier or DAC. Or you could use headphones with a really low impedance. I would just buy a USB sound card instead of using a combo DAC + amplifier.

How loud is the laptop when I'm in a high school classroom and let's say we are taking a test. I'm talking about the fans btw not the volume. Will it be noticeable ? If yes, How many seats across do you think its range is?

I'm just kinda worried about the pulsing some of the people over here mentioned, which is normal.

It's loud when both fans kick in at its full speed. It's not overly loud but it is loud. If I was in a quiet classroom during a test, everyone would notice the sound.

When fans are on low RPM, you will barely notice it.
